The Story of a Survivor Empty The Story of a Survivor

Post by Guest 21st November 2016, 2:48 pm

Born in Shirotsume to the upper middle class Gassion Family, Tyra is the only child of Amber Gastian and Jonathan Gassion. Her childhood was a rocky one, as she was never an easy child to handle. She was always very excitable, with enough energy to power a small town for a week sometimes. She had a fair enough household, with very few express rules. She was told that as long as she knew what she was doing, she was allowed to do anything she desired. However, there was one exception to this: She was not allowed to attempt to learn or practice magic, as her family thought it was much too dangerous for her. She suffered her fair share of scrapes and cuts, and learned from the experience, to the point of being a very careful teenager. And, for a time, her life was easy enough. She went to school, worked part time at a store, and went home. That was the pattern of her life until the fateful night that changed everything. It was the one and only day she had stayed after work to do her boss a favor, closing up shop after keeping it open later than normal, mostly so they could get out of the hole of debt that they had put themselves in. By the time she had started walking home, it was already dark out. She felt the hands come over her mouth before she saw who they belonged to.

A dark mage and two of his lackeys had taken her and dragged her into an alley. They were drunk, but they knew what they wanted. They took turns using her. They didn't bother gagging her either, because every time she screamed they would make another cut on her body. Eventually, she had a total of ten scars-which she refuses to show anyone. After they had done the deed, leaving the girl with empty eyes and a tear stained face, one of them slit her throat, and made several other slashes down it. The only thing that saved her life was a passing mage. She had scared off the drunken mage and his lackeys. If she had not appeared and screamed, alerting multiple other mages in the area to her location, she would have died that night. Several fire mages worked to seal the wounds on her wrists, while healers worked on her neck and increasing her blood production afterwards. Tyra herself only has the haziest of memories of these acts, and claims to not even remember the names or faces of who all saved her life.

For a few days after the incident, Tyra's parents were rather accepting of the mute status of their daughter. However, they could not accept how withdrawn and bleak that she had become. After a while, they became controlling of her, and drove her further into herself. The few things she had been allowed to do before had turned into not being able to leave the house unless she was going to school, and even then, she was walked to school by one of her parents. At first, Tyra had been rather accepting of this situation, allowing herself to be shepherded around everywhere for a good year, being only a young teen at the time, around sixteen, and having just survived a traumatic experience, she had all but pulled away from the world as a whole.

It took another year before Tyra "woke up" on her own, recognizing how little freedom she had. She had finally coped with her situation, her inability to speak. But even though she made it obvious that she had recovered, her parents had become too scared. Too controlling. Unfortunately, this made it hard for her to stay in her home. She waited for months on end, hoping for some disaster that would make it easy for her to get away. She got what she wanted, eventually having her home catch fire due to how distracted her mother had been while cooking, eventually leading to the house lighting. She waited in her room upstairs purposely, feeling the room heat up until eventually she jumped out of the window, taking back alleys and side roads to escape the house. The official statement was that she had died in the fire.

Of course, in truth, she hadn't. She knew that her parents wouldn't accept her death however. So, after careful changes to herself-turning her black hair a dark purple, changing from her love of bright clothes to a deep affection for darker ones, and covering her scar with various things ranging from scarves to choker collars, she managed to get out of Shirotsume without much issue. She traveled on a relatively safe road with a group of people who were moving through her home to the next city: Oak Town. It was there, surrounded by so much magical enthusiasm and knowledge, that Tyra realized something she hadn't fully accepted: That she had a definite interest in magic.

So, rather than following the caravan she had been part of, she remained in Oak Town for a while, reading as much as she could about magic, exposing herself to magic as a whole, and picking up bit by bit pieces of her own skill. At first, she was simply trying to learn how to communicate through magic. Over time however, certain skills became apparent in her. While training with another person who was trying to figure out magic, she ended up accidentally making her unable to cast spells for a few minutes. For the next few weeks, she did research into everything she could find, repeating the instance a few times, eventually finding the story of an Ancient Magic Sealer. It apparently became a trait among mages that eventually turned dark, allowing them to seal magic in others. So, practicing with that, she eventually perfected her basic ability to use magic. She even managed to pick up the Telepathy she had been trying so hard to learn! But..that wasn't all she had picked up.

Over the next year, she learned more and more, eventually finding that she could link people's senses together, allowing them to feel the emotions of the other..and the pain the other went through. She realized at this point that, while she could definitely fight with it..she wasn't going to make much more progress unless she was surrounded by other mages. So, she started researching about the various guilds. For the most part, none of them really caught her attention in the legal guilds. So, she started to rely on rumor, word of mouth. Eventually, she heard of a guild that focused entirely on spreading justice and equality. Pharaoh's Call. It was..interesting to say the least. So, at Eighteen years old, she set off in the general direction the guild was supposed to be in.
