What if we did a Grand Magic Games once a year. It'd be a turn based rp, of a team from each guild. Moderators, or judges of their choice would decide match ups, and winners.
    Steps
Step 1: Make sure all guilds participating are active and have choosen a team.
Step 2: Decide fights, and post orders (Mods)
Step 3: Create a category, with subcategories for each fight.
Step 4: Start and end fights.
Step 5: Do the bracket system down to the final 2 teams.
    Step 6: Champion wins hooray.

I realize I'd be a little chaotic, and some of the stuff may be difficult, but I think after some planning and some setup, it might work.

What do you guys think about this?

This has been mentioned in the past and the reason it hasn't been done is for the reasons you stated, and because the dark guilds couldn't really participate, which is unfair on dark mages who have nothing to do. The alternative is to have a darkie event alongside it, either interacting with the GMG or not, either of which could make things even more chaotic.

The concept itself is amazing as the GMG would be so much fun, but there are far too many potential difficulties that would need to be covered to really try to pull it off. Maybe one day though.

That, and people would whine about not being chosen for a team. Plus some guilds don't have alot of higher ranks.

The problems are rooted a little deeper then dark mage participation. We've tried smaller scale versions of this in the past and even in small scale it doesn't work.

For example: 2012 duelist tournament event. This is an event so old half of the present admins think I'm making it up when I say it happened. It was a simpler premise all applications were paired up with a partner and fought in 2v2 fights. The winners would advance to another round in a tournament fashion. All the fights were handled separately and held simultaneously so that if one fight went inactive the others could still advance. Despite match ups including active Guild Masters and Wizard Saints none of the battles ever got finished because of inactivity.

Now while that event had seriously bad luck to fail in the first round, making a large multiple round event that requires the same handful of people to be frequently active? It presents a much higher activity risk.

Then we get PvP toxins. Everyone wants to win the GMG, everyone end of story. Some people may want to lose the first year so that when they win later its a better story. But in the end people want to be winners. When everyone wants to be a winner and only one guild can be a winner, everyone else becomes whiners. It builds walls between people and will cause kerfuffles over every little thing. A player who had been using his magic for over a year walks into the games and SURPRISE something about it is revealed to be OP and in need of a fixing for the games, now people want his app pulled but he doesn't want his app pulled because he'd already been using it for so long. Just like that drama bomb.

One person really wants to win so they have their character Natsu everything, walk off every attack, stand up no matter how many times they got knocked down, ect ect ect. Drama bomb.

Someone does the math and creates the mathematically best possible magic forever. They walk in shower everyone with their min-maxed numbers of destruction and makes all the more casual rpers feel bad. Drama bomb.

PvP based events always are more trouble then they are worth.

Edit 1: That's not even to mention it opens a whole can of worms regarding ranks. This kind of event would open up all the old, "Rank shouldn't decide battles!" vs "We earned our ranks let us use them!" debate. Which is always nasty.

This. This right here is everything. We still have alot of these problems with PVE events where the boss is destined to lose because some people HAVE to be the shining star in everything. It gets old. I prefer to be the character on the side waving flags and cheering everyone else on. But that is just me.
