It was time for Nightken's examination. Something that Leonard was looking forward to. He had seen the determination and potential of this lightning mage. They were in the grasslands near his house. The sun was high up and the wind was blowing to the west. In the middle of the field, Leonard was sitting on a rock, he said to Nightken "Hello Ken, I have seen your progress ever since you came here with them crows... I wonder what happened to them. Anyway, you have proven yourself ready for the Rank Up examination. Mind you that this is a test of not only of your power, but your heart and mind as well. To start off..." and with that, Leonard quickly requipped Paladenium and dashed to strike Nightken. "Do battle with me." he said as he dashes towards the Lightning Mage.

Nightken was told to meet Leonard in the grasslands near his house. He made sure to have both of his swords attached to his belt."Hello Ken, I have seen your progress ever since you came here with them crows... I wonder what happened to them. Anyway, you have proven yourself ready for the Rank Up examination. Mind you that this is a test of not only of your power, but your heart and mind as well. To start off..." With that, Leonard quickly requipped a unique looking sword and dashed towards him. "Do battle with me." he said as he dashes towards Nightken. Quickly drawing his Nidai Kitetsu Nightken slammed it into the ground when Leo was ten feet from him when he did that a lightning pulse was sent into the ground and exploded the ground in a ten foot radius around him. After doing that there was a cloud of dust in the area for a minute until the wind blew it away, while the dust cloud was still around Nightken drew his Ramei Okami. Standing with both his blue and black lightning swords he was prepared for the next attack Leo had in store for him.

Leonard had seen Nightken's move. He intends to use a spell with a 10 feet blast radius. Unfortunately, he was in it. Leonard blocked the explosion made from it and was sent a few meters back. Now there was a cloud of dust in the area. And Nightken would be probably be waiting for an attack by him. This was an advantage to Leonard because his next attack won't be coming from him, but from the sky. Before the cloud of dust was gone, Leonard pointed his sword up and quickly pointed it Nightken's direction to quickly cast Divine Punishment. Now there's a crackling beam of light from the sky cmoing down on Nightken that explodes on impact.

Hearing a crackle coming from the sky Nightken's body became coated in a mix of blue and black lightning moving at the full speed of lightning. He dashed at Leo swinging both swords at once before using his discharge spell. "Discharge" As he said that lightning shot from Nightken's body in every direction for five feet. "I'm not going to go to hold back otherwise I'll be insulting both you and myself." Nightken said as the discharge was going. Hoping he can at least do something to that will get by Leo's defenses. Nightken remembered that he's the kind of person who thinks on his feet in battle making his actions difficult to predict at times.

Nightken was attuned to the sound of Divine Punishment. And instead of taking steps back, he charged at him with his spell Discharge. Lightning crackled everywhere for 5 feet. And he was going near him. Leonard hasn't forged an anti-lightning sword yet so he thought of other things in mind. He casted blade armor and chnged the armor's material into tough fire-proof wood so it wouldn't conduct the lightning nor will it burn from it. He then equipped two greatswords, one on each hand and casted Slayer Stance that gave him a great boost in power and strength. In a readied stance, he dashed to meet Nightken in meele combat. While dashing, he randomly swings his blades in front of him as a form of offense and defense.

Seeing as Leo requiped some wooden armor and two greatswords then charged to meet Nightken in melee combat. Running at full speed and placing Ramei Okami on his shoulder it grew to fifteen feet in length the sword appeared to be made purely out of the blue lightning. Swinging it he launched a fifteen foot shock-wave at Leo after that with Nidai Kitetsu he launched another two shock-waves after stopping mid charge. After the shock-wave from Ramei Okami was fired the sword quickly returned to its normal size of 70.6cm. While the shock-waves were going Nightken pointed Ramei Okami at Leo and fired his lightning spear from it aiming for the chest plate of the armor.

Nightken sent shockwaves in Leonard's way. Fortunately, his swords were strong enough to deflect them. Then Nightken casted a lightning spear. One Leonard knew he won't be able to block. So the moment Nightken releases the spear Leonard jumped into the air to evade the spear and requip to the Blazing Inferno Blade and cast Dragon Flame. And when Leonard lands, he was charging up his power that made him become surrounded with a black aura.

Using his lightning body to dash towards Leo at high speed, while in the dash the blade of the sword is down towards the ground and once getting to the enemy Nightken pulls the blade forward in an upward slash doing a full 180 over his head leaving a residual trail of lightning from the sword. Ramei Okami Offensive Style: Crescent Moon." After he said that he fired two lightning bolts then he took up a defensive stance.

Nightken evaded his attack and came up with an attack of his own. He was moving towards him with great speed. Opening his eyes that were glowing red, he looked at Nightken and said "Heads up, you might die. Knowing this, will you still continue?". Releasing all the energy he had stored, Leonard had used the Power of Apocalypse and requipped the Blade of Apocalypse. A massive dark sword brimming with dark energy covered the sky. He swung the blade upward at Nightken sending him flying. And while in the air, he struck him downwards that sent him to the ground. After this he stopped his attack. "Now a question for you Nightken, I have the ability to kill you right now. You clearly have no hope. Knowing this, will you stop now or continue?" He shouted with his voice echoing throughout.

"I know that I don't stand a chance but I made a promise to my teacher that I'll become the strongest lightning mage that Fairy Tail has ever seen. I don't want to give up, but my body won't let me move." Nightken replied to Leo as he slowly stood back up using his swords to hold him up. Knowing that he never stood a chance against Leo he sheathes both of his swords. "I will get stronger to keep my promise even if it kills me. I'll never stop until the promise is completed." Nightken said before collapsing from a combination of exhaustion and from the wounds he's suffered. "If it wasn't for my combat clothing I would've been dead from that attack." He said while laying on the ground.

Leonard listened as Nightken said his reply. His body and sword still raging with power. "I will get stronger to keep my promise even if it kills me. I'll never stop until the promise is completed." with those words, Leonard lowered his guard, stopped his spell, and unequipped the apocalyptic sword. He then approached the collapsed Lightning Mage and carried him to his house. When they got there, he laid Nightken to his bed and mended his wounds. Sitting beside the mage, he smiled as he drank from his bottle of coconut wine. "Well Ken, you passed. For what was important wasn't your power. Because that thing will grow in time. What was important and what you needed to pass was your heart and resolve. You have shown me how greatly you have them and for that, as I have said, you passed."
