Entertain The Patients! [Job/Solo]

Job Flyer:

A new chapter in Kaze's life, his very first mission as a member of Fairy Tail. This job was nothing huge, and it definitely didn't pay diddly-squat, but to Kaze this was a huge step. Plus, if anything else, it was a good thing for his conscience to make children laugh.

Kaze let out a yawn and stretched as he made it to the top of the hill. When he looked down, he could finally see Peace Village below him. "Finally! How long have we been travelling, Nimbus?" Kaze spoke to his lovely cloud mount who, unfortunately, could not speak back. Because Nimbus is a cloud, and clouds don't speak. "Oh, yes, I almost forgot you couldn't talk back. Because you're just a magic cloud under my control like a pawn in my game."


Once the awkwardness of Kaze talking to himself in such a dark manner had settled, he dismissed Nimbus. Kaze began walking down the hill towards Peace Village, where he would speak to Nurse Gladys to get started.

On the way down, Kaze remembered something critical to the operation that he hadn't thought about before. Kaze had never dealt with other children, he had no idea how he would entertain them once he arrived. He knew how to make tiny tornadoes, and maybe he had a few other tricks up his sleeve. He hoped that his eyes wouldn't scare the children either, considering one was amber and the other was blue. He wondered if he was able entertain the kids enough, or should he have chosen another job? This was his very first job, and he certainly didn't want to screw it up. Kaze decided to forget about it until he reached the Childrens' Ward.

Kaze sighed, almost reaching the bottom of the hill. His dark blue cloak fluttered in the wind. Kaze threw down his hood, revealing his short, deep sea blue hair and beard. It wasn't especially groomed, but hair never really concerned Kaze regardless.

Once Kaze reached the edge of the village, he made sure his galaxy blue tie was 'up to snuff,' to his standards. Once Kaze entered the village, he mumbled to himself;

"I suppose I'm required to wing this one." Kaze felt uneasy, but he knew he had to do something, he had already taken the job anyhow.

After a bit of searching, Kaze finally managed to locate the Peace Village Hospital. It was something you would expect from a small village, a not-too-large building, but enough to manage. The place was certainly taken care of, rarely was there mold on the wall or shabby tiles on the floor. Kaze got lost for a while, admiring the maintenance of the hospital.

Finally he woke up, and Kaze walked to the reception counter, where he started to speak to the receptionist.

"Hi there, I'm Keanu Zephyr, also known as Kaze, I'm from Fairy Tai--"

The receptionist cut him off. "For the last time, we're not interested in what your selling, the Peace Village Hospital has plenty of supplies and plenty of sources to get those supplies! If you come back again, I will call the local police to get you out of here. I'll even go as far as to call the Rune Knights if you don't stop trying!"

"W-Well, actually, I'm from Fairy Tail. I'm here to entertain the children in the Children's Ward?" he stammered. Kaze laughed nervously, hoping he wouldn't get thrown out of the hospital for something as silly as being mistaken as a salesperson, to a hospital no less.

The receptionist's eyes slowly transformed from angry to embarrassed as she realized the purpose of Kaze's visit. "O-oh! I'm so sorry, the Children's Ward is right down that hall, the receptionist pointed, so sorry about that. Nurse Gladys should be there right now!"

Kaze smiled to the receptionist and walked towards the Children's Ward. He scratched the back of his head. Kaze thought to himself; I'm surprised she managed to play that off. Oh well. Kaze reached a set of double doors. Above these doors was a label that read "CHILDRENS' WARD". If he wasn't sure enough that this was it, he was damn sure now.

He could hear a muffled voice beyond the doors. He couldn't make out what this person was saying, but he could definitely tell it was a woman. He thought to himself; That must be Nurse Gladys. Well, I better get a move on.

Kaze pushed open the two doors. Despite looking very flimsy at first glance, the doors were actually sturdy and heavy. When he entered the Childrens' Ward, he could see the woman that he heard from the outside. Sure enough, it was...

"Oh hello, there, dear! I'm Nurse Gladys, what can I do for you?"

Kaze smiled and waved toward the nurse. "Actually, I'm here from Fairy Tail. My name is Keanu Zephyr, but I usually go by Kaze. I'm here because-

Again, Kaze was cut off by the nurse.

"To entertain the children! Of course! Oh, dear, you're so kind. I never thought someone from a guild would actually take the job!" The nurse chuckled and said something quiet to herself. Kaze couldn't make out what she said, but he assumed it was something like a thank you.

Nurse Gladys spoke again. "Right this way, Mr. Zephyr, the children will be so excited you're here."

Nurse Gladys led Kaze down a long hallway into the warmest room in the entire hospital. It was similar to the Guild Hall, except on a smaller scale. Kaze guessed that this is where the children met for activities every day.

"This is the activity area, where the children play. This is where the former entertainer would perform, until, well... You know, dear, you read the flyer."

Kaze nodded, and asked; "So, where are the kids, anyhow?"
Kaze casually fixed his tie and examined his cuff links.

"They should be in their rooms, but I will call them out so you can give them the razzle dazzle!"

Kaze had no idea why the nurse would use a term such as "razzle dazzle," but he didn't object.

Then, out of nowhere, similar to a banshee's ear-piercing screech, Nurse Gladys screamed at the top of her lungs; "CHILDREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!"

Kaze's eyes widened in terror, as he clenched his ears. His ears rang like church bells, if church bells were high pitched and exceptionally maddening.

About a dozen or so children answered her screeching command. Kaze thought to himself; I'm surprised these kids aren't deaf after hearing this every single day.

Nurse Gladys calmed the children and got them all in a circle around Kaze and her.

"Okay, now, children, this is Mr. Zephyr from the Fairy Tail guild in Magnolia, he traveled a long ways to see you!"

Kaze was beginning to get nervous, being put on the spotlight. He could feel a bead of sweat rolling down his forehead. He started to wonder if this would be different if someone had been with him.

"Everybody, introduce yourself individually to Mr. Zephyr, okay?"

That makes them look more nervous than I am., Kaze thought.

Nurse Gladys went around the room, having each child state their name. Once all of the children had gone, Nurse Gladys stepped out of the circle and let Kaze take over the show. Each child looked up with a look of awe on their faces.

Kaze cleared his throat. Time to start the show, he thought.

Kaze sat down with his legs crossed. He smiled at the children, he then rubbed his hands together. Finally, Kaze spoke.

"Can any of you guess what kind of magic I use? He smiled as he spoke, Kaze has always wanted to talk about his magic.

Kaze went around the circle, having each child guess random magics.

"Toy magic?"

Kaze laughed. "No, not Toy Magic, unfortunately."

"Meat-make magic?"

"Well, no, honestly I didn't know that was a type of magic. Any other guesses?"

"Cool magic!"

"Of course my magic is cool! But, no, that's not what it's called. My magic is called 'Wind Waker Magic'. I can control the wind if I use the right spells."

Stereotypical "Ooh's" and "Aah's" echoed from the room.

"So, have any of you kids seen a tornado before? Kaze asked. He could see many little eyes widen at the thought of a tornado. Some children nodded, but other children shook their heads with disappointment.

"Okay, good, well, if you haven't seen one before today, you will. Those who have seen one before, prepare for a... twist." ((that was a clever tornado pun and you know it.))

The children shuffled in excitement. Due to his magic ability "Sentio Ventis," Kaze could feel Nurse Gladys giggling at the sight of the childrens' happiness. He did wonder though, why he couldn't use this ability to figure out what she was saying earlier through the double doors. He set that aside in his mind, because now he finally go to show off his kick-ass magic spell: Commanding Gales.

"Okay, now everybody has to be super-still or the tornado will run away. Got it?"

The crowd of children nodded. Kaze smiled, and put his fists together. A white magic circle appeared under the children, with Kaze in the center of it. He could feel the childrens' excitement. Three small tornadoes swiveled around the children and around Nurse Gladys.

The winds were strong enough to give a nice breeze, but not strong enough to pick anything up in the wake of the tornado. It was the perfect display of the beauty of Wind Waker Magic, in Kaze's mind.

Kaze's heart was pounding, this was a lot of pressure for him. Even he was surprised himself when he was able to act like a stud in front of the children. It wasn't over yet, though.

The three tornadoes weaved around the children and met in the middle, just in front of Kaze. They swiveled around in a circle, eventually becoming one combined tornado.

The children did nothing except look at the tornado with awe. Suddenly, Nurse Gladys came up with an excellent idea. Gladys picked up a small vial of glitter, throwing it into the center of the tornado. The newly formed Glitter-nato shined and sparkled in the light of the room. Some of the children clapped, others laughed.

Kaze couldn't help but smile, he was thrilled that he was doing something to make the children happy. Eventually, the spell reached its limits. The tornado died down, and the glitter simmered down along with it. Kaze opened his eyes, only to see a bunch of smiling faces.

"Well, how was that?" he asked.

The children cheered, and Nurse Gladys yelled something that the children imitated.

"Encore!"

"Encore! Encore!"

Kaze smiled to the children.

"Well, I think I have one more trick up my sleeve."

He put his fists together once again, creating a bright white magic circle under Kaze and the children.

This time, it wasn't a tornado that formed. 10 basketball-sized wind spheres formed in a circle around Kaze. All 10 moved about the room symmetrically, creating designs. It was almost like a group of balloons floating around the room... At high speeds.

Kaze definitely preferred the tornado over the Zephyr Spheres, but the children seemed to like it just the same. All good things must come to an end, however. The spheres eventually dissipated and Kaze opened his eyes again. Once again, the children smiled and laughed.

Nurse Gladys interrupted the final celebration.

"My goodness! Look at how late it is!" She pointed at the only clock in the room, which read 11:56p.m.. "It's time for you all to hit the hay. Say thank you to Mr. Zephyr for travelling all this way!"

The children, in unison, said thank you and went off to their rooms, still mumbling about the entertainment.

Kaze stood up and smiled at Nurse Gladys. He stretched out, his legs cramped from sitting so long.

Nurse Gladys walked over to Kaze, giving him a hug and thanking him for taking the job.

"Stop by the hospital if you're ever in town, okay?

Kaze agreed to her request. "Sure thing, I'll stop by if I can.

"Oh, and I almost forgot! Here's the reward promised on the flyer, dear."

Although this was barely enough to pay for... pretty much anything in Magnolia, Kaze stared at the small pouch of Jewels as if it were worth the grand prize at the Magic Games. To Kaze, it was. It was the first step on a long journey to becoming an S-Class Wizard.

Kaze left the hospital a few minutes later. On his way out, he waved to the same receptionist he had spoken to earlier. She still seemed embarassed, from the way Kaze interpreted it.

"Well, that didn't turn out too bad after all. They didn't really notice my eyes or anything. I think."

Kaze trekked onward back toward Magnolia, stopping after a few miles to rest. His stomach growled. Only then Kaze realized that he came severely under prepared for this Job, he hadn't brought anything with him.

"Damn, my excitement got the best of me... again." Kaze groaned. "It's going to be a long journey back to Magnolia."
