As Talen walked toward the Beanstalk village, the first thing that he saw was what the village was named for, an enormous beanstalk that towered over even the clouds. Talen had seen the beanstalk about an hour before the rest of the village came into sight. When Talen reached the village he was greeted by the man that he assumed to be the village elder. He welcomed Talen in a voice that reminded him of Zuo Ci, his guild master, "Welcome to our humble village. We are so grateful that you could come and help us." "It's no problem at all." Talen said with a smile, "I always like to help out." The real reason that Talen had decided to take this mission was because is was supposed to be simply helping the local farmers with a few problems they were having getting their plants to grow. After his last mission where he had been hit by a card from Melissa, Talen needed a nice and quiet mission.

The elder Talen through the village, and to the crop fields on the far side. When they reached the fields, Talen felt a very strange presence. it was like he was feeling the magical energy of a dark mage, but all around him. Talen nervously looked over his shoulder, trying to find the source. "Is everything alright?" the elder asked. "I'm... not sure" Talen said, "I feel a strange energy, but I'm not sure where it is coming from." "Could that be causing the crops to die?" the elder asked. "Maybe," Talen said with uncertainty. Out the corner of his eye, Talen saw movement and tensed up, unsure of who or that it was.

Five of what appeared to be giant pieces of corn approached Talen and the village elder. Talen put his arm in front of the elder, and took a step forward before saying, "Get back sir, I can feel evil energy coming from them." "Protect the crops!" the elder said with a look of desperation in his eyes, "Whatever you do, protect the crops!" Talen sighed then said, "I will, just get somewhere safe and keep others away." The elder nodded and ran off.

Talen now focused on his enemies. The evil corn turned and looked straight at him with twisted smiles on their faces. Talen reached for the keys at his waist, grabbing the only gold one. "Gate if the Scorpion, I open thee, Scorpio!" As the spirit came out of the doorway to the spirit world, he said, "We are, Talen don't you worry, our sand will take care of these strange beasts." "Scorpio, be careful, we need to protect the crops." Talen said as he pulled Titan's Hammer from his waist. "Understood." Scorpio got onto all fours and aimed his tail at the nearest corn demon. "Sand buster!" A stream of sand shot out of his tail and hit the corn, knocking it to the ground. Talen ran at the group of corn, feeling a little nervous and he did so. He had yet to use Titan's Hammer in a real fight, he had been practicing with it, but never against real enemies. Then corn demon that Scorpio had knocked over had stood back up and to started inhaling, as if in preparation for something. Talen did not give it the chance to finish whatever it was doing. He took the hammer and used it to knock the corn demon over again, then followed that up by slamming the hammer down into the demon as it lay on the ground, finishing it off.

The next corn demon came at Talen, jumping through the air at him. The celestial spirit mage ducked under the attack, and as the corn landed, Talen hit it in the back with Titan's Hammer. This sent the demon flying into the air once again. Talen heard Scorpio yell, "Sand Buster!" and a blast of sand sent the demon flying back a ways. "Scorpio," Talen said as he saw the demon almost hit a few crops, "I need you to go back to the spirit world, your sand is a little to unpredictable." "We are, alright." With that, Scorpio disappeared.

Talen now pulled out one of his silver keys, "Gate of the Huntress I open thee, Artemis!" Artemis appeared in front of Talen, and instantly drew her bow and nocked an arrow. She launched the arrow at the corn demon that Scorpio had blasted before, the demon fell to the ground and stopped moving.

"Looks like I came just in time." Artemis said. Artemis had a strange look on her face as she asked, "Is that demon summoner here? I can feel a magic similar to hers." "No, and I really don't think that this is the best time to talk about that."

The three remaining corn demons approached the the celestial mage and spirit. "I still say the magic feels like hers," Artemis said with a somewhat smug voice as she fired two arrows, one into two of the approaching demons. "Does that even matter?" Talen asked in an exasperated voice. He took Titan's Hammer and used it to knock one of the demons that Artemis had already shot into the air. As the demon fell through the air, Artemis shoot it with another arrow and it fell to the ground, finished.

Talen used the opportunity to kick the other demon into the air, and as it spun through the air, he hit it withe his hammer, sending it flying across the field. "Just because she uses a magic similar to this, does not mean that she has anything to do with this." "I am not saying that she does," Artemis said as she pulled another arrow out of her quiver. She closed her eyes for a brief moment as she mumbled something to herself. The arrow started to glow a faint green, and Artemis fired the arrow at the one demon that had not yet been attacked. It hit the ground in front of the corn, and roots burst from the ground and entangled the demon. "I am just saying that she could do something like this."

Talen sighed and collected himself before walking over to the corn demon that Artemis had trapped in her natures grasp. He always hated having arguing with his spirits about Kariline. She could be a bit rough at times, but she was a good person, even if her magic was not so good. He wished that they would see that, and not just a mage that used a dark magic.

When Talen reached the demon, he simply struck in the head with his hammer, finishing it off. Talen sighed, then said, "Well, that was not so bad. I guess they where what was causing the crops to die..." Suddenly Talen felt a sharp pain in his back, and fell to the ground. The corn demon that Talen had knocked away with Titan's Hammer had stood up again and spat a stream of corn kernels into Talen's back.

"Talen!" Artemis yelled as she nocked an arrow and fired it at the demon. The arrow Flew through the air and landed squarely in the demon's forehead, finishing it off. Artemis rushed over to Talen as he rose to his feet once more. "Are you alright? Is anything broken?" "I'm fine, I barely even feel it." "You were always a terrible lier." Talen heard a rustling in the corn stalks to his right. Looking over, Talen could see indistinct shapes coming there way. "Oh great, more of them." Artemis nocked another arrow. As she prepared to fire it however, She could feel herself becoming incorporeal as she started to return to the spirit world. "Darn it!" was the last thing that Artemis managed to say before she disappeared completely.

As Talen looked around, he saw there red eyes first. As the shapes came closer, Talen could see that they were another group of demons, this time shaped like broccoli. Talen sighed as he prepared himself once more to fight. As he reached for his keys however, Talen had another thought. When he was young, Talen had discovered that he had a strange ability. He was able to create a black fog that made anyone that it touched start to fight anyone nearby. Melissa and the rest of the spirits had told Talen that this was a horrible power and never to use it, but this seemed like a good time to use this terrible gift.

First, Talen let out a primal yell that seemed to reverberate through the air for a brief second. An inky blackness started to spread from Talen which engulfed the broccoli demons. Their eyes became an even darker shade of red and their features became even more savage.

Talen could feel himself starting to lose control, as an urge to fight everything in sight started to take over. He tried to fight it as long as he could, but to no avail. The only thing that he could think about now was destroying everyone around him.
