Exploration

The island was a strange place and as Elara took her first look upon it from above, she couldn't help but wonder just what on Earthland she would encounter down there. Her mission was simple, explore the land and report back with whatever she encountered. A little vague to say the least but it at least sounded like it could be fun. The teenager was still coming to terms with her new powers but was beginning to understand how they worked. She reckoned that this little job would be the perfect opportunity for her to test them out more thoroughly, without risking human life.

She couldn't see much other than trees for quite some time and Elara struggled to find any good landing points. While she searched, she couldn't help but wonder just what was waiting for her under the canopies although she was hardly afraid. She was becoming stronger all the time and her confidence was only going up.

It didn't take long for her cofidence to be tested either as a large bird like creature soon came darting out from the canopies below. It was a rather ugly animal and is it flew up to meet her, Elara would launch a fire ball towards it, hoping to knock it back.

As the fireball met the creature, there would be a horrible screeching sound, before the monster fell from the sky and smashed into the trees below. For a moment or two, Elara thought that it would be as simple as that but the beast would appear again, charging up once more despite the damage it had taken.

A little irritated that the creature wouldn't stay down, Elara would fly down to meet it, her body becoming surrounded with flames. The impact was powerful and like a meteor, she would slam into it, sending them both into the forest below. Not how she had planned to enter the shrubbery but it was a little late now.

They hit the grassy terrain hard and as both Elara and the monster fought to gain control of the situation, there was a loud sizzling from all around them and the forest started to set alight due to the immense amount of flames. After rolling each other over a few times in a wild brawl, the teenager would get on top, surround her fists with flames and start to pound away on her foe.

She'd never punched so hard before and as her flaming fists struck again and again, Elara couldn't help but feel slightly worried about her own actions. This wasn't right, was it? Since when did she enjoy beating something to death with her own hands? Was this truly what lacrimas were capable of?

Elara just kept thumping until the creature before her stopped moving or at least that was what she thought had happened. Had she stopped when she should have or had her anger gotten the best of her? In a way it felt great but a part of her was sickened by what she had just done. She was so confused and as she finally got off of the creature and started to dash off into the trees, all she could hear was her heart pumping.

It was so weird and so flustered was she by her own actions that she didn’t even think of summoning her allies for advice. She just kept darting onwards, her fists constantly blazing, her eyes looking in all directions for any further enemies. One thing was for sure, this was going to get worse before it got better.

Soon enough, another enemy did come into range. A large wolf like beast that Elara knew wasn't going to get out of her way. Sprinting towards it, she would then jump, swinging a powerful flame fuelled punch in its direction which sent it flying backwards. She was definitely getting the hand of these new powers.

The wolf was tough enough to survive her punch though and it quickly rolled over and clambered back up to its feet. With a howl, it would charge towards the teenager but Elara simply created a ball of fire in her hands and hurled it forwards, catching the wolf and causing it to collapse to the ground.

The wolf still wasn't done and actually managed to get up again after a few moments, much to the surprise of Elara. It growled with rage before charging at the young slayer with all the speed it could muster. Moving to the side, the girl would dodge before launching a powerful fire kick to the midsection of the beast. The creature whined in pain before crashing to the ground for good.

With her latest foe down, the slayer wouldn’t waste any time and started to quickly dart through the undergrowth of the forest. She had no real idea about what else there would be for her to face but the teenager was pretty confident that she could defeat whatever it might be. Her magic was starting to blossom, much to her delight although she couldn’t help but dwell on the destruction it caused.

There wasn’t all that much action for the next twenty minutes or so and the teenager actually started to feel a little bored after a while. It was funny that before she’d acquired her slayer lacrimas, she’d probably be scared to death of being without her spirits but now, she was confident that she could fight without them, at least for a while anyway.

It was probably about ten minutes later that she came across another opponent and a large ape-like creature appeared to be it. Angrily it howled at her before launching an attack and Elara had to duck underneath the blow, followed by a powerful flaming fist to its midsection which threw it backwards. She was definitely getting the hang of this.

Jumping into the air, Elara would then launch herself towards the creature like a torpedo, surrounding herself with fire as she did so. She struck the beast before it had even hit the ground from her last blow and the power behind her latest attack hurled the monster back into a tree hard, before it crashed to the ground in pain.

Filled with adrenaline, Elara would dart forward to continue her attack, reaching the wolf creature just as it got back to its feet. With a wild howl, it would lash out at her with a powerful barrage of claw strikes, forcing her onto the defensive but she handled it well and was able to block enough of its attacks to find an opening, unleashing a flaming kick which knocked it back several feet.

The creature seemed to be getting angrier and as it charged back towards her, Elara once again coated her fists in flame and did the same thing. The two met in anothert flurry of powerful blows and counters which could be heard for miles around. A powerful clash between the monster and a Slayer who was growing more adept with her powers by the minute.

It was kind of surprising that the forest didn't turn into a ball of flame in truth, as Elara was fighting so ferociously that it could have done. The beast was giving as good as he got though and managed to catch the girl with a nasty scratch. Instead of getting upset though, the girl just scowled with anger, delivering a massive flaming kick that knocked the animal into the air.

Flying up after it, Elara would deliver another powerful blow, her flaming fists slamming down upon the beast's back and sending it back towards the Earth. It crashed to the ground and moved no more, ending the fight with Elara winning once again. Dropping back to the ground, she’d then resume her hunt.

It felt so great to be able to fight on her own and as Elara charged through the forest, her senses well and truly enhanced, a wide smile grew on her face. She began to understand why other mages enjoyed fighting with their own hands and it would be an experience she'd never forget.

The forest trails seemed to last forever and as the teenage slayer continued on, she started to ponder about just how long the job would take. Still, she didn't mind too much and as she sprinted and jumped through the air, a smile crossed her face as she looked for her next foe.

Another roar soon caught her attention and the skayer had to dart quickly to her right as a massive bear came jumping towards her. It was a close run thing but she just about managed to evade it, before unleashing a wave of water that caused the creature to fly backwards and hit a large tree. It wasn't defeated though and swiftly got up, ready to fight.

Quickly, Elara summoned her powers of fire and released a blast towards her foe, knocking it backwards and again knocking it to the ground. Growling with anger, the beast would again get up and charge towards the teenager, wanting to take her out. The slayer simply dodged to her right, making the beast tear past her and slamming into another tree. Elara made it look rather foolish and couldn't help but chuckle.

The bear didn't seem all that pleased though and rolled back over, before turning around and charging again towards the slayer, its eyes crimson red. Elara could've easily dodged again but instead she simply charged up the powers of flame that were within her and delivered a powerful punch, hurling the bear flying backwards once more and onto its backside.
