Post by Pimwadee 13th January 2020, 1:56 pm

If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me
One day I'll know, if I go there's just no telling how far I'll go
    Pimwadee Chakri

Hargeon was frequent to visitors from other lands, one particular visitor having only stepped off the decks of an immigration vessel a few days prior. A youth from the land of Lhuk, with a recently acquired work visa and passport, clutched tightly in her excited caramel coloured fingers. There had been much to adjust to since her arrival; the weather, the customs, the general mannerisms of the people. Her assimilation had been a little slow at first, what with the fact that her understanding of their language despite being well-practised was not as straightforward as the traveller, Pimwadee, had expected.

There were so many colloquialisms that her studies had not been privy to, not to mention the accents that would bend and warp the words in such a way that she struggled to understand them. At least, some of the locals had quickly picked up that she wasn't from her and helped her out in some circumstances, aiding her in getting checked into the local inn and working out her change when paying for things. The exchange rate from Thxng to Jewel wasn't as promising as she'd initially expected. But fortunately, her family's newly acquired wealth meant that this discrepancy wasn't so much of a setback, more of a surprise to the Asiatic female.

Regardless, in spite of all these accommodations, the girl felt a little more settled at this point of her travels. Although not quite ready to move on, she was still exploring Hargeon and the feature's that the port town had to offer. As she wandered through its snow-covered streets, sporting the newly purchased winter clothes she'd acquired immediately after arriving here. Her purple-dyed locks hung down softly against her shoulders, her fringe pinned under her favourite triangular-patterned headband that she had brought from home. She was wearing an outfit advised to her by the shopkeeper of one of the many boutique's she had visited during her initial days here. On her upper-body, an oversized cream jumper that hung all the way down to her knees, its neckline layered in an unusual fashion, decorated with tassels from shoulder to shoulder. On her legs, she wore thick brown winter tights, and for shoes, she had purchased some tanned style of boot that were apparently known as 'Uggs' here. Having quickly learned that the weather here was significantly colder than what she was used to, the people of Earthland we're currently experiencing their winter which was freezing compared to the only slightly cooler seasons in Lhuk. Needless to say, she was finding that the thick, wool-based clothing was aiding her adaptation to the cold significantly.

The streets of Hargeon were especially busy today, it would seem the locals were celebrating some kind of festival. Something that Pim found herself especially excited to experience herself, praising Phra Phrom for bestowing such a lucky beginning to her journey across the western world. Her orchid-coloured eyes alight with zealous intrigue, it was such a contrast to festivals in her land. From what she'd learned when asking around about the festival, she'd learned that the 'Winter Solstice' was a celebration for the shortest day of the year, but there was more to it than that. She had been informed that for those more spiritually inclined, it was an event that celebrated the longest hours of darkness, for the darkness would provide the rebirth of the sun. Believed to be a time for regeneration, renewal and self-reflection. A concept that Pim loved and couldn't resist celebrating with them.

She started her experience by sampling one of the beverages being sold by the entrance, enticed by the sweet scents and warmth radiating from the stall. She had ordered herself a hot chocolate, not something she'd tried before. They sold hot-chocolates in her country, but generally, she was more inclined to order an iced green tea. Still, with the frosty air biting at her skin, she could understand the need for such a drink. And so after paying the lady at the counter, she brought the drink to her lips, blowing on it delicately for a few moments before taking a tentative sip. Eyes widening in delight as the sweet heat coated her town, filling her with an immediate sense of comfort and warmth. It was a very pleasant beverage, one she would be glad to try again on a wintery day like today.

Pimwadee proceeded to idly stroll further into the festival, taking in all the sights and scenes that Hargeon's streets had to behold. As she sipped her drink once more, taking a more hearty gulp now that it's liquid had cooled down to a lukewarm temperature. There was a sudden jolt of her arm as something relatively firm slammed into her wrist, the force of which causing her to drop the drink. She stared at the dispersed contents of the treat she had been enjoying in bafflement before looking around, only to see what looked like a rotund figure made of snow, angrily pelting snowballs at her. Confused and unsure of what it was she was facing, the woman would turn and dart away with a shriek, ducking her head to avoid the onslaught of snowballs that we're being launched her way. Spotting a mound of snow, she ducked behind it, crouched down in panic with her hands over her head defensively. Confused as to what had brought on this attack, completely unaware that she had stumbled straight into the Snowball War arena.

Winter Blessings [Event] Empty Re: Winter Blessings [Event]

Post by Katsumi 13th January 2020, 3:44 pm

It was funny how an absolutely wonderful day could rapidly turn into something awful. Katsumi brimmed with rage. Other people parted before her as the raven-haired woman tromped through the festival. If only this was a game world, there'd be a dark red buffing aura hovering about her. Well, if this had been a game world she might not have found her day ruined. Games were easier to understand. This equaled this and that gave you that in a game. Katsumi stopped stomping about. It wasn't getting her anywhere. Maybe she should figure out how the day had soured. The swordswoman tried to think back. Where had the day gone wrong?

She'd been building a snowman. Actually a few of them, commemorating her fallen friends. Her Art skill was rather low, unfortunately. No matter how hard she tried, the snowmen were crude. Their limbs were stocky. Their faces were featureless or partially destroyed when she tried to fix that aspect. Katsumi had nearly been in tears. The snowmen were more a tribute to worn statues than her friends. A man had come over to offer his assistance. She'd gladly accepted. Together, they had turned the snowmen into snow warriors. A commemoration worthy of her friends, even if they hadn't ended up winning in the end. Then the man offered to take her ice skating. Katsumi had been rather confident that it was an activity she could manage. Perhaps the swordswoman should have been more suspicious.

The ice skating had led to her current mood. At first, the ice provided a feeling of flying. Her skates worked right. Katsumi had glided across the ice. She'd been a bird, flying for the first time. The stress of the snowman making contest melted away. Then, little issues started popping up. Her skates caught the ice. Her coat flew in her face. Her body stopped working like the machine she'd made it into. Since her Agility, Luck and Strength stats weren't that awful, Kat had suspected something immediately. Still, she'd attempted to ignore it. Ice skating happened to be rapidly moving onto her list of favorite things. Then she'd fallen. The man who had helped her make the snowmen, Chad, helped her up. He'd been unnecessarily handsy. Katsumi brushed it off as an accident. When it kept happening, the swordsman realized what was going on. Chad used his magic to trip her up and then used the opportunity to touch her inappropriately. He was lucky she hadn't cut his hands off then. Instead, she'd left in a huff.

Katsumi looked down at her outfit. Maybe that was why Chad had targeted her. She hadn't bound her chest this morning. Her boobs strained against the fabric of her sheepskin coat. Her customary black duster had been left behind in favor of the black sheepskin coat. Katsumi loved the white-gray fur that decorated the hood, lining, and ends of the sleeves. The softness kept her entertained. Little mittens hung on strings attached to the sleeves, just in case she needed them. Her legs were encased in black leggings, specially made for the cold. Her feet sported black boots which reached nearly to her knees. With her child-like features, doe eyes and naive demeanor, Chad had probably thought he'd hit the jackpot. The swordswoman sighed. This was what she got for dressing normally for once.

Chad came running up. His tan coat, wavey black hair and green twinkling eyes pissed Katsumi off. "Stay away from me, Chad. I'm warning you. Take one more step and I will skewer you where you stand." The womanizer pervert stopped, holding his hands up. "Kat, baby, sweetheart, you got me all wrong. I wasn't tryin' ta touch ya like that. Honest! Give me one more chance, honey." Katsumi hated that his little speech was working. It made her feel all warm inside that someone would go through the effort of asking for a second chance. However, a snowball's chance in hell she would cave for this loser. A sword appeared in her hand. The tip touched the underside of Chad's chin. A sickly smile spread across Katsumi's face. "Of course, sweetheart. Why don't we play a little game first? It's called Cops and Robbers" Chad's face lit up even while he was sweating around the sword. Katsumi wrinkled her nose at him while pushing up her sleeve. Chad paled once he saw the tattoo. "Chad, you're under arrest for sexual harassment of an officer. You, you!" She waved a couple of on-duty Rune Knights over. They'd been watching from the sidelines. "Process him for me, please? I'm off duty. Thanks!"

As Chad was led, protesting, away, Katsumi looked for something that could ease her pain. An event or activity that was mindless fun. A nearby sign purported a Snowball War. Apparently, it would be held in a nearby arena and would feature the snowmen made in the contest. That seemed like fun. Her snow blade-wielding snowmen would cut through the ranks of snowball fighters. The swordswoman put away her sword. Time for a little bit of fun. It took some wandering to find the arena. After which, getting signed up was over in a flash. The contest apparently used guns that shot snowballs. It sent an unpleasant shiver down Katsumi's spine. She'd just been in GGO, a death game revolving around guns. The swordswoman picked up two of the guns. She wanted to duel-wield them just for fun.

The war made Katsumi's issues melt away. She laughed, shooting various combatants and getting shot in turn. The raven-haired woman was hiding behind a snowbank when another woman appeared. This woman had both hands over her head, purple hair and a rather nice winter outfit. The game screeched to a halt for Katsumi. The scene reminded her of LAO. A player succumbing to the reality of the death game, needing help. The swordswoman knelt beside the purplette and placed a hand on her arm. "Are you alright?" She asked, hoping her Charisma stat was high enough. She scanned the area and saw a pool of hot chocolate in the snow. Silent tears ran briefly down her cheeks as she saluted the fallen beverage. The woman must have blindly stumbled in here.

"Did you stumble in here?" Katsumi asked, smiling softly. "You stumbled into the Snowball War event. Here, take one of these." A spare gun was held out to the woman. While her dream of duel-wielding was ruined, this woman needed it more. "You can use it to shoot snowballs at other people. See?" Katsumi demonstrated quickly with the other gun. Snowballs hammered into the snowbank as a result. The raven-haired swordswoman stuck her tongue out at the other competitors. "Little brats" She laughed softly. "Oh! Excuse me, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Akahoshi. Akahoshi Katsumi. Would you like to storm that castle with me?"

The situation that was unfolding around the Lhuk girl we're unpleasantly jarring, what she had expected for this festival was a pleasant time. She had not fathomed that she would be facing such a curious beast. Her weapons we're back in her hotel room, and whilst she had her magic. She was still not used it it's power when it was bestowed upon her by the monks of her temple, she had vowed that she would only use it when it was absolutely necessary. At present, it was too soon to tell if there were one of those times, as whilst the snowball had knocked her, it didn't do any damage. So either the attack was simply especially weak or didn't actually intend on harming her. Perhaps it was just trying to be bothersome, or maybe even playful. There were so many elements to figure out, but fortunately for her, an explanation of sorts would come soon enough.

Because only briefly after she'd ducked behind the mound to hide away from the onslaught of ice-orbs, did someone come to her side, addressing her. Pim looked up to spot a girl above her dressed in black, pretty pale skin, of an age not too dissimilar to her own. It took Pim a moment to realise what the girl was asking, lowering her hand from above her head, she nodded. Her purple eyes watched at the girl would look across the arena to her fallen drink, and make a gesture with her hands. Once she recognised as normally something a soldier might enact in respect to their commander. This was curious, was this gesture significant? Perhaps it was an apology to the gods for the wasting of food they'd been blessed with. Yes, that made sense. Pim climbed to her feet, not wanting to be rude or offensive to their custom, she turned to the drink and mimicked the girl's actions, offering the drink a hearty salute of her own.

Her gaze returned to the woman as she spoke once more, it took her a minute to translate what the girl had said. Confused by her use of the term stumble, she had not fallen here but walked in aimlessly due to her lack of care. The girl continued, causing the foreigner's eyes to widen in fear. A war? She did not know of a war in these lands, metal touched her fingers as the girl passed her an object. Pim's panic growing further as her eyes laid on the gun in her clutches. She had seen this western weapon before, a tool of a soldier, a tool to kill. She began to shake her head, not sure she could use such a thing. Life was a gift not to be squandered by man. But as the girl demonstrated how the weapon worked, Pimwadee quickly came to realise that the gun did little home. Only fired those irksome balls of snow that had knocked her earlier, as she watched the goings-on around the arena. She game to release, this fight wasn't for death. It was merely a contest of skill, stamina and fighting spirit. A smile crept onto her lips as she was reminded of the Song Khran festival back home. Except those we're battled with water baloons, not snowball. But the concept was similar, straightening up, she turned to look upon the woman who aided her. Chin held high with pride, "Thank you, it will be my honour."

And with an almighty battle-cry, fueled with festive spirit and competitive joy, the dark-skinned woman ran forth. Firing off snowballs left, right and centre, all the while relishing in the festivals playful spirit.

Winter Blessings [Event] Empty Re: Winter Blessings [Event]

Post by Katsumi 15th January 2020, 2:55 pm

Finally, someone that appreciated food as much as she did! Katsumi hadn't expected the girl to salute her own fallen beverage. Seeing the respect given to deliciousness made something akin to warmth blossom in Katsumi's chest. She had found a new best friend! Maybe. If not, Katsumi wouldn't mind at least getting to know the girl. Food worshippers respecters had to unite! Otherwise, all the ruined food would have no one to mourn it. Nor would food be properly enjoyed the way it was meant to.

As the other woman charged the castle, Katsumi called out after her "Wait! Oh, nevermind." The swordswoman leaped over the snowbank. Time to wreck some fools. Her legs gave out under her. A small 'whoomph' went up as she fell face-first into the snow. Maybe she shouldn't put off her physical therapy. Her body might look normal but her muscles were still adjusting to real life. Katsumi climbed back to her feet. Brushing off the snow, she aimed down the scope of her gun. Pop! Pop! Pop! Three headshots. The players struggled to get the snow out of their eyes. They'd been about to shoot down onto Katsumi's new friend. Not on her watch.

With her body reaching the edge of its endurance, the swordswoman decided not to run in. Instead, she lay upon the snowbank. Covering the other woman from here would be a cinch. She made a mental note. Ask new friend what her name is. Not referring to someone by their name demeaned them. Katsumi pushed away her bad memories. Now wasn't the time to wallow in pity and self-doubt. Pop! Pop! Pop! The way was clear. "Go, crazy girl! Go!" Katsumi cheered , watching through her scope.

The bullhorn sounded for the end of the event a few minutes later. Katsumi pushed herself to her feet. Her legs were going to be fine for now. The swordswoman started making her way toward the castle. "I thought that insane shooting might be you, Beater. Can't say I'm happy to see you here." The voice made Katsumi freeze. She turned slowly about. Agil stood there, in a large green coat. A little girl clasped his hand. She looked between Katsumi and Agil. "Daddy? Who is tha'?" Agil picked up his daughter. If looks could kill, Katsumi would have been toast. "Someone who let me down a long time ago, sweetheart." Before Katsumi could say a word, the former LAO survivor left. The swordswoman stood there in stunned silence. Days were all over the place. Up, then down. Down then up. No regard for the people living within them. The Rune Knight rapidly moved toward her rooms. Once she reached them, Katsumi slumped against the wall and had a long cry.
