In a strange twist of fate, Mai had been sent out by the guild specifically to take care of a mission in Hargeon Town, as she was to meet her companion for the mission at Hargeon Town. This was, admittedly, a bit confusing to the Slayer. Generally, if she were to go out on a job with someone else, it would be with Luna, or at least someone in Sabertooth, but instead she was to be meeting up with a complete stranger for taking down this mission. She remembered Luna saying that this would be a task that Mai could easily deal with, even with her Slayer style not being designed to kill demons. Luna had her own jobs to take care of before the S-Rank quest the two would go on, and so it made sense for Mai to do much the same.
The train ride to Hargeon was largely uneventful, save for a few strangers wondering if Mai was a lost child. This was a common occurrence, but each one of them was assured of Mai's status at the reveal of her guild tattoo. The initial arrival in the town was much the same, with little fanfare to her arrival. She was informed to meet her teammate in a nearby inn, and that she would get the debriefing on the mission from the client first due to her being the higher-ranked wizard between herself and her companion. She presumed this meant that she arrived into town before the companion would, but, as Luna was all to happy to remind her, she was still to focus on the job first as opposed to viewing the sights of Hargeon. Sighing as she bounced a few times on her heels, she skipped along to the inn in order to meet the client.
Upon entering the inn, she was immediately bombarded by a bombastic voice of an eccentric man whose hairstyle strangely reminded her of Papa's. "About time you arrived, Stormschild! You're two minute and fourteen seconds late! This sort of carelessness will get you killed if you have to deal with demons or other beasts!"
His mild-mannered cohort sighed, placing a hand on the man's shoulder. "Yes, yes, father, it's certainly a shame that she was late, but she's here now!"
"And to think that Sabertooth sent a little girl like this! I don't doubt her power, that much is to be certain, they were quite insistent on her deceptive appearance, but to think that they would slight me by sending a small child like this! The nerve of those-"
"You can trust me to take those demons out." Despite her calm speaking, she was certainly irate at the man's outbursts. "Miss Luna said you would tell me about this job before my teammate gets here, so what do I need to know?"
The client was visibly angry, but he sighed after a moment and obliged. These demons had possessed him and caused him to launch a valuable family heirloom onto the beach, where it was promptly stolen by the demons. The local police was not confident enough to explore the area, and the Rune Knights were "much too expensive and inquisitive as to the manners of my work!" as the man emphatically said. He warned that these demons would not be an easy task to deal with by any means, but having a wizard like Mai on the case would be a relief, as he said. With that, he emphatically ended the debriefing before storming off to his house in a huff.
"I do apologize for my father. He's a bit...eccentric, I guess you could say. I can assure you that you'll get your payment for this task, as well as our gratitude. While you wait for your companion to arrive, feel free to help yourself to anything the restaurant has to offer. Our family owns this inn, so we told the staff to to give you anything you need."
The daughter smiled before following off after her father. Mai took a seat in one of the booths in the lobby as a waiter came by, offering her an ice cream snack and a pouch of juice as she waited for her job companion's arrival.
