    WINTER MAGNOLIA LaQxJWX

    Job Details (Long <3):

The whole ordeal is exciting and more than ironically, Seth ended up going on the mission he commissioned to. A trip to Minstrel is one he had always dreamed of. The extravagant, beautiful alleyways and plazas in a warm, tropical paradise and the dramatical politics of ”the Grand Game” could draw any tourist in, even just to watch from afar. It’s amazing, he thinks to himself, how plain Fiore seems compared to Minstrel. Even a small mistake at the fruitmarket -- someone giving a yellow peach instead of a white peach -- could very well end up in an assassination. Maybe the warring families were jumping at any chance to gain power?

Minstrel, being very far away, is a long train ride away from Rose Garden. Not exactly being short on money, however, the guild (Seth, actually) rented out a private residential car, full with beds, bathrooms, and a kitchen for the three week long trip. Starting at Rose Garden, travelling through Bosco, before over crossing a large strait of water into Minstrel. Inconveniently for them, they enter from the north and the capital is at the southeast coast of the country. Two more weeks of a scenic train through rolling plains and fields of grapevines. More than enough time to get acquainted with someone new or spend time with old friends.

After arriving in Minstrel, Seth transfers them over into a lavish hotel in the center of the city. Each room is gigantic, with an open floor plan and with windows open into the city. For the next three days, whatever guild member that came would be pampered, groomed, and styled for the upcoming ball. All at the expense of the guild.

The sun is cresting just over the horizon and Seth, as well as those who ended up coming along with him arrive at the austere gates of the palace. Propped open by their sheer weight, guards stand at either side. Court members, party goers, and other Minstrel citizens mill about in the beautiful, flowering garden leading up to the front doors of the castle. All of them are wearing beautiful masks, the simplest being made from silver and brass, while the more prominent ones made from gold and studded with gemstones. Some notice his bare-faced presence almost immediately. One of his weirder features, a small ruby, imbedded into his forehead is showing. As well as wearing an expensive, white and sky blue tuxedo, he is wearing a golden tiara, snug on his head and with an opening for his gemstone to poke through. Among other jewelry, he wears a gold necklace and matching bracelet, with metal twisting around his guild-mark, on his left hand. Whispers sweep across those who notice. He tries not to pay any attention to their gossip and focuses on the main doors and the task at hand. "I assume you’ve all read my letter detailing our task," he says in a hushed voice, "or have made me read it aloud to you." He glares at Esi. "If you have any question, ask now, hastily."

The brief snatches of time in which Esialeth had been forced to deal with high court mannerisms left her feeling distinctly uncomfortable; she likened the feeling to that of sporadic, freezing raindrops and avoided it at all costs. She had a talent for open court, and was quite formidable when presenting her arguments, tall and glitter-eyed and elegant, but she never quite discovered a passion for manipulation like Seth had, all closed-door deals and subtle glances. Her education was incredibly thorough, intimidatingly so and by her own doing, but right now, she would do anything to have Seth's distinctive intuition at her disposal.

The train ride to Mistrel was obscenely lavish; Esialeth briefly wondered who, exactly, was footing the bill, then decided almost immediately after that she did not care. For three weeks, she savored all that the train had to offer, from decadent strawberry cake to the grand piano in the foyer, all the while slipping coin to the underpaid maids and page-boys.

The castle's entrance-way exudes luxury, with an echoing floor and wide, crystal-clear windows. Esialeth gets the distinct impression that if she touched one, it would shatter immediately. The air is cloyingly sweet, thick with the smell of rose perfume, similar yet incredibly different than the smell of the guild. Seth's bare face and distinctive appearance drew attention immediately, while the dress that Esialeth's seamstresses spent days on went unnoticed, the night-sky black gown and comparatively minimal gold accents nigh invisible against the gaudiness other party guests' outfits. Her only jewelry were a delicate gold necklace, a pair of dangling earrings and a gold-leaf headpiece.

So she could get around unnoticed. Good. She turns to her guildmates, ignoring Seth's quip, and speaks, each word sharp and calculating. "It looks like there are three groups here, and while all of them have good intentions, the city will suffer consequences if we don't stop them from destroying each other. Our businesses are doing well under the current administration, so we should keep the queen on our side. But the other two groups are justified as well, so we should find a way for all three of them to work together. Obviously, they might not listen to us, so we should find some leverage against them: Jean-Paul and Rouge are clearly trying to be covert, so find something that would expose them. The queen is trickier; an assassination attempt would get all of us killed, so try to find some blackmail. We should probably pair off to act as each others' alibis."

They're nearing the entrance now; Esialeth's words become clipped and rushed.

"There's a way for all of them to work with each other. Trust me, I got around, I know how to fix this. I can even do the legal stuff, if they needed me to. But we don't have time to discuss it. Right now, I need your help with the court. I'll tell you guys everything at the ball. Any objections?"

The wind mage had already been all over the world several times over, though in her youth she never got truly enjoy the travel. Always looking over ones shoulder to survive and make sure no one knew who you really were? Tended to do that to a girl, and it wasn't really much different now, sure she was more at ease with these people and couldn't be dragged back anymore, but they didn't know so much. Of course, she really didn't know anything anymore, so maybe that was alright regardless of how hard she was on herself about the veils she lived under, especially now that her friends presence in the guild thinned those barriers. Actually, she hadn't felt this good in a long time, otherwise she wouldn't be going out on a job with so many members of the guild. So maybe things were finally looking up if she could overcome herself for once in her life.

Due to the tropical climate she had dressed differently than the normal bathing suit or crop top and skirt she averagely wore. Normally bare feet had changed to a pair of high boots even if her claws itched within them she was protected from the dangers of busy streets, high stockings and jacket preventing mosquitoes from getting from her at night, while her simple black bra underneath allowed her to easily remove the jacket to cool off if need be. In a bit of festive spirit? She had changed her hair ties to ones resembling butterflies.

The train ride had not been too difficult, the conditions Seth had purchased were far nicer than anything she typically spent money on. Quickly upon boarding she had claimed a bed with one of the trains windows beside it, kept the thing open whenever she could, and never seemed to want to draw the blinds, spending most of the trip laying in front of that window on her side looking out at the world go by. Since she at least felt safe with them? The canine very much had wanted to see the scenery she had missed during past trips to the other country. It truly was delightful scenery.

Bright blue optics scanned over the crowd that milled in the massive grounds, wanting to be aware of the residents of that crowd. While she had often lived in the lower end of every world? She had clawed her way to survival anyway she could over her lifetime, so it was not entirely unreasonable someone here would know her name. Hopefully not, Seth had his goals here so her wanting to socialize or avoid someone, would be counter productive. Luckily, for the moment she didn't see anyone she knew, especially no one that worried her or interested her. "Seth, do you remember how long you made that letter! I didn't read a word." she swept a spare hair away from her face, taking a few steps skirt swinging with her movement as she chuckled. Jiyu didn't have to disclose she couldn't understand all of it anyways due to the fact she had started skipping school frequently at seven and was basically a drop out by nine.

Listening to Esi she quickly realized that maybe shapeshifting herself had not been the best course of action for this job. The sort of information they needed? Would be difficult for an outsider to obtain, but if anyone she knew in the past and had a positive relation with happened to be here, it could become easier for them. Already they had drawn attention, so she decided it couldn't hurt. "If that's the deal-" with a pause in speaking her blue hair turned black, orange tips and bangs forming on it, animal features vanishing to be replaced by human ones. "This will be much more beneficial, I lived here for a time as a kid, I made some associates mostly on the docks and in the forges, but there's the chance someone will recognize me." even to the step of altering her clothing to a simple blue dress fancied up by some white trim, several pieces of jewelry having appeared on her, replicating the sort of things she had once made. Ironically it was actually likely going to be soldiers, guards or such who recognized her first, since she had worked with many of the blacksmiths who made everything from weapons and armor to specialized magical trinkets.

With everything else she nodded at Esi's plan. Hopefully, this would all go off well, they could hope. "So whose taking what." it was good to be barefoot again

This train ride was all too familiar. She didn't really want to take it ever again, but due to the guild requesting her presence on this job, it seems like she didn't really have a choice in the end. The Minstrel born magus has not been so keen to visit the nation again. Even if she wanted to protect her little sister, despite her previous aversion to her, she wanted to avoid visiting her home as much as possible. Most of the train ride, the blonde woman spent listening to music while reading whatever she had on hand. She wasn't complaining, just would prefer not being the one to do this job.

The scenery of the train ride was gorgeous, but no matter how pretty the sight was, the holy mage felt a weight in her heart the closer they got to the destination. It was a lot more nervewracking to take the scenic route. It was a little regretful that she just didn't warp to the nation. A cup of tea would be placed next to the holy mage as she looked to her Heroic Spirit who smiled softly at her before saying, "You can get through this fine. You're a lot stronger now." Replying with an empty smile, Arthur would nod before fading back to Arcadia. A kind sentiment, but she wasn't sure as to how much truth was behind it.

The hotel room was a kind gesture from the new Ace of Black Rose, however knowing what their objective was, the holy mage thought it'd be best to take a detour to her old home. Coming across the familiar gate of her family's estate, she'd enter with her pendant and disappear as the gates shut.

Lilium would not show up to the hotel until the morning of the Winter's Ball. She was mostly silent, seemingly drained but ready to go. She spent some time sleeping before preparing herself for the Ball. She had to look good for two reasons now after all. With what she was doing, she could probably draw attention away from the three foreigners to this.

The gates of the palace seem redone. Then again, the last time she was here was about seven years ago, so it was a little bit understandable. She was wearing a rather simple black dress, with an open thigh on one side. Wearing a black mesh coverup draping over her shoulders, the simple black lace choker would be adorned with a Black Rose medallion made of white gold.

She would get kicked out if she wore the foreigner mask in actuality. An unfortunate development but she expected this. Hence why she visited her family to try to get them to allow her to wear it but they didn't allow it. In fact, they gave her the Santiais mask. An elegant white mask adorned with light blue and white flowers. Placing it on her face, the holy mage would move the braid to one side of her body as she looked to her bare-faced guild mates.

"I, on the other hand, made sure I comprehended the letter." Sighing, the holy mage would feel the mask on her face for a moment before rolling her eyes, "My apologies, once it was found out that I was coming, I found out I wouldn't be allowed to enter unless I had my family's mask." Although the fact that she had a mask, unlike her guildmates, she was still attracting stares due to her being the missing heiress of the Santiais family. Lowering her tone, the holy mage would speak, "I have a certain elegance to upkeep, but otherwise, it will not prove to be an obstacle in what we have to do."

Against her judgment, Arthur decided to play solely as strategist today because a dead king from history could provide a lot of unnecessary attention. Nodding as Esi spoke, very clearly and concise, the holy mage would nod in understanding. "I can research into the queen. My family was known to be guardians to royalty when in our prime. So, I can most likely easily access some areas without as much as hassle as you guys." Looking at the maskless faces of her fellow guildmates, the holy mage would look with a little bit of a sideways glance. "Due to the amount of attention you all are attracting, it'd be best to go into areas with low amounts of people." Facing the gates, the holy mage would look at the palace doors.

    Show time.

    WINTER MAGNOLIA LaQxJWX

Esialeth echoes most of his thoughts and puts aloud the most important information in the letter. And he eyes Jiyu’s newly transformed appearance. "That’s useful, yes." Everyone is wearing black. Did he miss the memo or something? But another decent surprise to Seth is Lilium’s masked appearance. Authentic and all. Observing her quiet disappearance from the rented hotel rooms and her pained profile during the journey here, he decides not to dig too far into it. No more than what she says is needed. He nods to the the team member’s additions and thinks, quickly, in the minute seconds before they reach the palace doors.

Seconds before stepping inside, he says, "Your nobility," he glances at Lilium, ”and the favors already secured by your family is probably the best course of action to gain access to any private areas regarding the queen. Especially the library and her bedchambers.” He quiets his voice even more as they step inside the atrium, the colors spreading around them like a kaleidoscope. "I’ll be happy to accompany you into the courtroom and other places," he begins monitoring his words closely, "I’m probably the most well-behaved anyways," he says. "Despite my 'outsiders's mask', per se, I'm confident in my charisma. A mysterious and charming foreigner, accompanying a noblewoman, isn't entirely a bad image. I'll command everyone's attention," he quips, somewhat playfully. He looks at Jiyu and Esi, "That leaves you two," he pauses, "just stay out of trouble. And don't let the foreign politics taint your resolve of the guild's task." He directs the last part more at Esi.

Aware of the prying eyes and crooked ears, he begins communicating telepathically for the time being. "Me and Lilium should be going to the North Wing, then. The empress is there. Personally, I'd like to meet her. See if she reflects her image. But also to see if she is safe, currently," he continues, "You two should go to the The Hall of Valor and see if you can enter the Servant's Wing. Lilium and I will probably find a way into the Royal Wing by then." He finishes his brain to brain communication and smiles, he's beginning to see his plans unfold.

The atrium is immaculately decorated. In addition to canvas paintings lining the appendix hallways, the majority of the artwork consists of fresco made directly on the walls and beautiful statues. The focal point of the room is the grand painting on the domed ceiling of the room. Many are staring at the ceiling -- for tonight, at least -- there is no shame for appreciating the breathtaking awe of the artwork. Streams of magical light connect from the center of the picture and branch around the atrium, which solely light the room. He forces himself to look away, aware of the time constraint going on. He begins walking to the entrance of the North Wing. "Probably a better time than ever to ask. In the court, what would you like me to address you as? Otherwise I'll stay on the first name basis," he breathes out slightly, he adjusts his posture ever so slightly. Straightening out his back, he folds his hands in front of him and puts on a neutral smile. He is no stranger to courts or grand balls, but he worries that it might not apply to Minstrel politics.

Passing paintings and exquisite furniture, they enter the ballroom. The dance floor is empty, but the balconies are full of people. Most of them seem to be centered around the entrance to the dining room, which is jammed packed of nobles, clutching silver plates with gloved hands. Each is eating so delicately that it seems like they're not eating at all. An immense amount of self-control, considering how delicious all the food is. The queen's head is vaguely visible over the group of people. She's standing on some sort of platform, it looks like. He looks at Lilium. It wasn't up to him how she would make her grand reappearance.

Esialeth felt slightly miffed at the fact that she would not be able to explore the palace library; nobles had such an uncouth habit of hiding away their information to prevent the overthrow of their corrupt policies. She dreamed of finding such a thing, or maybe just finding a book to improve her magic. At the very least, she wanted to swipe the gilded copy of Sunset of Love that ws rumored to exist. But alas, she was to explore the Servants' Wing and the Hall of Valor. The Servants' Wing was bound to be interesting, but the Hall of Valor just sounded about as interesting as her fake friend's newest partner.

Esialeth drew strenght from the old walls around her, feeling the old magic flowing around her, searching for weaknesses, exploits, secret passages. Oddly, the only thing she found was a jade coraline embedded into one of the bricks, likely dropped in at the time of its making. However unfortunate that was for the owner, Esialeth had a job to do. A job that she was actively regretting signing up for.

As Esialeth and Jiyu continued down the long corridor that led to the only entrance to the Hall of Valor, Esialeth worked on getting her story straight with Jiyu.

"If anyone asks, we were exploring and got lost. I'm well-versed in court manners, even if I don't look like it, so I can probably talk my way past anyone suspicious. Um...oh! This castle is old, so I can sense when people are coming with my magic. And if it's really serious, I can move some bricks around so we can hide."

She stopped. "Wait. This hallway...we're been walking right next to the Hall of Valor. That's why it's so long, the door at the end loops around—shit! I could've just moved the bricks at the beginning of the—ugh. Oh my god, I'm an idiot. You know those servants, the ones we saw in the lobby, with the missing keys—we could have saved so much time, and gone inside like...ten minutes ago. Without the guard noticing." Her voice is a harsh whisper now, lowering in volume as the pair walked closer to the guard.

The guard seemed to be on alert—not in their favor. But then, Esialeth noted that she looked like a warrior, unaccustomed to court life. And, given Esialeth and Jiyu's comparatively mundane outfits, Esialeth deduced that she wouldn't be as on guard as she would be with a masked guest. A maid's hair-tie hung from her wrist—from a lover, perhaps? A maid, likely underpaid...interesting.

Esialeth toned down her razor-sharp sight and felt a bolt of pain surge through her eyes, the beginning of a headache. She took a deep breath of the too-smoky air, seemingly fortifying herself, and turned back to Jiyu.

"Quick, act—act natural. Like, uh, we look like foreigners, so let's pretend to be awkward around the main guests. Friendly. So she feels comfortable around us. Oh! Let's ask her about Rouge, too, but discreetly. Discreet is sexy." This was entirely too much talking for one night, and her headache was growing worse by the minute, but at least the sickening smell of rose perfume had dissipated when they walked down the hallway.
