Snow crunched under his feet while Tsuuki walked up the mountain. Chilly bitter winds battered his cheeks until they were red and forced a shaky cold breath to spill from his pale lips. Shaking, a pale hand reached up towards the zipper of his high collared trench coat and pulled it upward. It was a miserable attempt to block the harsh winter winds and to warm his face up, just a little, or so he hoped. Tsuuki was not built for the cold weather, then again, no serpent was built for the cold weather. 'Why would a guild named after a legendary serpent, be located here?' he thought bitterly to himself.

Next time he would need to bring a warmer jacket, maybe something with fur or fleece. Tsuuki continued to climb the snow-covered mountain until finally, he saw the dark fortress that stood like a beacon of warmth in a frozen wasteland. He knew only so much about this mysterious guild and most of what he knew was not pleasant. Mostly, rumors that came from the filthy peasants that lived down in the small pathetic village. According to their stories the mages who lived in this castle were both powerful and cruel, two things that Tsuuki could relate too. "They should be able to aid me in my research or grant me some needed materials, perhaps both." he had to remind himself why he was here in this frozen wasteland.

When he came to the large oaken doors with metal handles, Tsuuki begrudgingly reached out with his hand and pulled the door open. Sadly, the cold metal sent another chill down the serpent's spine and he cursed himself for coming to such a cold place. Tsuuki quietly made his way through the large oak doors, and into the commonplace. It was rather simple in design, the corridors were decorated with ancient statues and constructs, dimmed chandeliers weakly lit the room, and the entire place seemed dusty or ancient. However, within that ancient room, Tsuuki found some warmth and he made sure that none of that warmth would escape outside. Silently, Tsuuki explored the commonplace, examining some of the statues, and waiting for someone to greet or at least notice him. "Interesting" he muttered as he stopped at one statue to thoroughly inspect the craft.

Basilisk Fang was guild known for their heinous acts of terror but infamous for their serpents’ insatiable appetite for cruelty. The individual, appalling things that happened in the remote fortress atop Mt. Hakobe were perhaps more eye catching to the unfortunate witnesses who lived to tell the tale than the awful things they saw in the Sorcerer’s Magazine. Dozens blown to pieces and other reduced to bloody piles of gore from the messy acts of terror of slithering serpents. Others ripping terrified children from their bawling mother’s tight arms so that their unblemished bodies could be test sites for clumsy weapons. Their wrinkled, wet cheeks rotted away in toxins for they, the failures, had become toxic waste. But no serpent would fidget at the sight or quake at their cries, but instead applaud them for their perseverance. No one labeled their bold endeavors as cruel but progress, and it was progress that made the gaping chasms in their chests whole again.

Inside a orangely-lit tavern sat a well-dressed man in a traditionally colored vest-suit laced with golden buttons laced down the middle, sitting in the cushioned seat closest to the burning hearth. His shiny black loafers tapped against the stone flooring with a slowness and melancholy like a blues song and in his hand a teacup whose edges were chipped and originally bright, warm reds and golds now a faded, seasoned myriad of them. His room-temperature water swirled within, creating a translucent vortex that mesmerized the man so much that he’d stare fixedly at its center. But the dull, unmoving pupils in his eyes gave one the impression that it was not mesmerization, but thought that kept him still.

The raven-haired man raised his head to the bone-snapping sound of the ancient wooden doors staggering from its creaking hinges. He’d utter a droning sigh, his indifferent, straight lips dropping into a weak frown. His eyes, even though shimmering in the firelight, were simple and cheerless as he stiffly laid back into his seat as if the smallest pin could through his off balance. His healthily pale complexion was ghostly blanched, a supremely well-kept shock of tar-black hair laid over his face like a messy blanket so that only one topaz orb could admire that stygian tavern.

The peace waned from his countenance as he’d turn to greet the heavily-dressed stranger with no more than his attention, ”I know that it is cold but have we forgotten how to knock?” he said quietly, so much so that his voice only barely rang an interval or so higher than the cackling firewood or hissing flames. His throat rumbled like an irritable housecat’s growl, yet his cheeks were soft and blush with blood beneath his flesh. He was, after all, Basilisk Fang’s gloomy man.

Most acts of cruelty were necessary for success.  That in his opinion should be common knowledge. Tsuuki himself is someone who is willing to commit unnatural and cruel acts in order to achieve perfection. Such concepts of morality and honor were beneath him, they would prevent him from achieving perfection, and immortality. Furthermore, a perfect being should not concern himself with such primitive concepts and beliefs. Why should a lion concern himself with the safety of sheep? Especially, when the sheep can provide such a tasty meal? Why should any predator, for that matter, concern himself with the prey? Competition is the only thing that the predator should be concerned with, and Tsuuki planned on becoming perfect in order to eliminate any competition. In order to become perfect, Tsuuki first needed to perfect his immorality technique, and then perfect his spells. Tsuuki eventually found himself in an orange-lit tavern-like setting. The warmth was now completely affecting his body, and he figured that he could take off his heavy coat. So, starting from the inside out, Tsuuki unbuttoned the high collared cloak and pulled his hand downward. The action completely unzipped his the large black trench coat and revealed the simple garbs underneath. A sigh of relief escaped his lips as the heat from the room started to warm him up, and comfort him. No serpent should live in such a cold place, he thought to himself again, he pushed the trench coat onto his shoulders, and wore it like a cape.

It was only until he was done taking off his cape and warming up, that the serpent recognized a voice speaking to him. His amber eyes lazily dragged across the room, scanning his surroundings, looking for the voice that spoke to him. Soon those dreadful eyes stopped at the hearth where a well-dressed man, in a traditionally colored vest-suit with golden buttons, sat on a cushioned seat in front of the fire. The man was wearing loafers and drinking a nice glass of water, which was no doubt wise when around such dangerous people. Tsuuki watched the raven-haired man for a few seconds and waited for him to move from his seat. The man didn’t but instead turned a little to acknowledge the serpent, that was when Tsuuki noticed those dull eyes. A smirk formed across his face when he noticed those eyes, and he chuckled a little in amusement. “So I see” he muttered to himself, and then slowly started to approach the gloomy man, he walked at a slow and lazy pace. "I must ask for your forgiveness, I am afraid the cold simply got the better of me" he mused.
