    History:

Ni-ju's parents were originally refugees from the kingdom of Pergrande who discovered their child possessed magic and fled to Fiore before he could be seized. His father and mother, Roku and Michiko, were both servants to a nobleman in Pergrande for many years before his birth. Finding themselves suddenly without a home or job, they spent three years wandering Fiore before finding jobs as servants at Holy Castle. After settling into their new home it was discovered that their young son had a very serious illness, rendering him almost completely immune to the effects of physical pain while also causing debilitating bouts of weakness. Due to his parents overzealous fear of an accident caused by his illness, Ni-Ju spent most of his childhood inside.

On the rare occasions when his parents would stay at the castle overnight, Ni-Ju found a secret glee in sneaking out of the house. Roaming the hills and forests near his home he would watch the birds, reveling in the freedom they possessed to go wherever they pleased. While cooped up during the day Ni-Ju was given books to study by his father, dry dusty books on etiquette mostly. But every once in a while, either by mistake or design, his father would slip in a book of  fables or a rousing adventure tale. These tales of bold adventurers and rugged soldiers, braving the unknown to find lost places and creatures, inspired Ni-Ju and gave him something to emulate as a child.

At age ten Ni-Ju encountered his first wizard, a spritely, young woman who had stopped at his home to get out of a heavy storm and been warmly welcomed in by his parents. After a hearty dinner and a telling of tales the young woman, Yanmei by name, decided to do a small show in recompense for the meal that had been shared. Taking a handful of salt, Yanmei threw it into the air, grasping the tiny falling grains with a gentle touch of her wind magic and sending them dancing through the room, forming a beautiful pattern before breaking it apart to form another.  Ni-Ju looked on in amazement. He could see what looked like faint blue-grey lines flowing from Yanmei's chest out toward her hands and back with every change of movement made by the dancing salt. As everyone helped to clean up, Ni-Ju asked Yanmei about the tiny lines he had seen, only to receive a startled glance and a shrug in return. Laying down to sleep, Ni-Ju could hear Yanmei talking excitedly to his parents.

The very next morning Ni-Ju awoke to the sound of his father hastily packing his clothing into a large leather travel pack. After quite a bit of hysterics on his mothers part, Ni-Ju was informed that he possessed magic and in order to control it he would need to go with Yanmei to her fathers home in the hills near Mt. Hakobe to study until he had a solid grasp of magic control. Travelling  by air, the two quickly made the trip to the home of Yanmei's father, Rei Wong. Rei, a stern but fair man, then set about teaching Ni-Ju, not only magic but also the practical arts of Judo and trapping.  For the next six years Ni-Ju spent his time cooking and cleaning for his new mentor while learning to master everything Rei had to teach him. Upon his sixteenth birthday, Rei called him into the training hall. Cracking a full smile for the first time Ni-Ju had ever seen in his six years of tutelage, Rei calmly informed him that his time here was over and in order to grow as a mage he would need to find others like him. Having said this he handed Ni-Ju a folded piece of parchment. "This is a map of Fiore I acquired awhile back, I've taken the liberty of marking out the locations of the known guilds." With those parting words he turned and walked out of the hall leaving Ni-Ju alone. Unfolding the map, he noticed hand drawn symbols over a number of regions throughout Fiore, each neatly labeled beneath. Ni-Ju refolded the map having already decided months ago where he would go. Grabbing the things from his room, Ni-Ju took one last look over the place that was his second home before starting his journey to Hargeon Town.

Shortly after making his way to Hargeon Town and joining Lamia Scale, Ni-Ju was taken into service by Ophelia Katulai as a butler for her household.
