    Kenshiro Harada Empty Kenshiro Harada

Post by Kenshiro Harada 29th April 2014, 4:43 pm

((Hi, I’m a friend of Behemoth’s! he sent me a blank copy of a blank version of his application for his character skinner over AOL and suggested that I join here, You can call me Ken.))

    Name:
    Kenshiro “zero” Harada
    Nickname:

    • Zero: Zero is simply a nickname that was gained after someone in the modern day pointed out the second half of his name after “Ken” sounded like Zero. "Ken-Shiro" "Ken-zero"
    • The Ronin: A samurai without a master, “destined to live forever”.
    • Mao Mao: He’s an exceed
    • Cursed-Swordsman: “Long ago in the uncharted land, an honorable ronin seeking lost ancestral knowledge in a sacred labyrinth of catacombs, the forbidden wells of the netherealm, where demon and souls alike swirled in the twisting abyss. The Ronin stared into its depths, as he sees hordes of supernatural spirits chased by oni, flowed from the well into the cave, surging around him and into the deepest pits of his mind! Unable to cope with the vision, his mortal form was now forever blinded, and his spiritual self was stripped of its innocence. Lost and alone, The Ronin wandered into the depths of this forbidden place until he came across another visage in an unearthly sight of a broken sword, his body quivered as the spirits that surrounded him whispered in his ears, telling him to take the sword. Tempted by the evil, he felt the ground for the hilt and its blade, upon finding the blade and lifting it, the sword and its hilt began to melt down into liquid metals which surged up his arms, mimicking his veins until the liquid finally met his lips… The blade’s molten liquid body surged into his mouth, eyes, and nose, burning him from the inside until the blade itself was one with the Ronin. The ronin lost consciousness from the sheer pain… Upon awakening the ronin felt the gentle breeze of the spring winds, and hearing the voices once more… They called him the Cursed swordsman, the Ronin who was cursed to live forever, and forever listen to the spirits madness.

With their madness, also came new found power, the Ronin could feel an ethereal blade forever in his MISSING left hand(arm) of seemingly overwhelming power, at the same time, it wasn’t there at all… Unlike this story, the blade had no middle, beginning, or end; it could only end the stories of other men and women.”

    Gender:
    Male
    Age:
1131 (28 years old), eternally youthful
    Birthday:
    Forgotten
    Sexuality:
    Straight
    Special Characteristics:

    • Blind Zero is by all means, blind because of his encounter with the spirits of the well.
    • Exceed: Zero is an Exceed. Though, ever since being merged with the magic sword, he has been able to transfer between the forms of an exceed (cat tail, ears, a single wing, and all) to a taller humanoid “pretty kitty boy” with kitty ears, a tail, and bigger wings, more capable in combat.
    • Second sight: His eyes are practically useless, though instead of using his eyes to see, he sees through sound, mapping out the environment in his mind, giving him an innate sixth sense.
    • One wing, one hand: Ever since zero was born, or “hatched” rather, he was born with a deformed left hand and forearm and left wing were deformed to the point of the two being useless. The left forearm and hand were removed, as well as the left wing, leaving a single enormous black right wing to grow. Zero's physiology and its "Differences" permit him the ability to glide rather than fly.

    Personality
“He is powerful beyond measure, and so deeply vulnerable at the same time. This may seem like a dichotomy, but it isn’t. We have misunderstood real power. It has been something assertive, non-surrendering, pushing on through. This is not real power. This is simply willfulness. Real power is something else- receptivity, openness, the courage to keep your heart open on the darkest of days, the strength to feel it all even when the odds are stacked against you. Real power is showing up with your heart on your sleeve and absolutely refusing to waste one moment of your life hidden behind edginess and armor. The art of enheartened presence. There are some who believe him to be blind; while others, perhaps with more reason, claim that he has travelled far beyond blindness, that indeed, he can do nothing but see: that he sees the fine traceries the galaxies make as they spiral through the void, that he watches the intricate patterns living things make on their journey through time.”

Zero takes on "The martial pacifist" archetype. Zero is a a martial artist that is peaceful, disciplined, kind, personable, and likely good with children. If there's an Old Master who isn't a total Jerk, you can bet he follows the Path of Peace. A Martial Pacifist will often try to solve his problems with words first, and fists a distant second, typically resorting to violence only as a last resort. When that happens, he will mop the floor with anyone dumb enough to challenge him. Unlike his arrogant counterpart (a reckless pacifist), he will not kill you unless he has no other choice, as killing usually goes against everything that he stands for. Almost universally being followers of good, martial pacifists tend to defend others who are in need of protection. many martial arts schools emphasize the importance of levelheadedness and use of violence only when no other option is available. Exercising self-control over your own body and mind is often an integral part of a practitioner's training, and this includes keeping your emotions in check. As such, you'll rarely hear about a karate black belt pummeling his wife in a fit of rage because he has the self-discipline not to. In fact, there are some martial artists who believe that any use of their skills for competitive purposes is a perversion of the art, and even refrain from sparring.

When a Martial Pacifist is unrelenting and perfectly willing to kill when they deem that there is no other alternative, this can be a case of Good Is Not Soft. Cool and Unusual Punishment is a favorite trope of the martial pacifist. In darker works, Cruel Mercy can be applied if they prefer not to kill. This can become squeaky if the martial pacifist has a broad definition of ''alive''.
One interesting variant of Martial Pacifist is also an unusual example of Good Is Not Nice: They are only a pacifist as a result of a Heroic Vow or Morality Chain, but are earnestly trying to accept these limitations in spite of their nature. When this is the case they are likely also The Fettered or a Noble Demon striving to reform for a loved one. In Black and Grey Morality tales or when Played for Laughs you can expect a lot of Rule Lawyering as to what specifically constitutes "harming others" when they do become frustrated with their (possibly self-)imposed rules. This can even go so far as to slide into Pay Evil unto Evil if a sufficiently evil alignment makes someone fair game, and "Zero" decides to decapitate someone if the rules go out the window when the Berserk Button gets hit (if that ever happens). When this happens, its a case of Redemption Failure, though this may be averted by violence truly being the only alternative. For the noble demon, it may result in either having to slowly regain the trust of their morality chain(s) or a tragic rejection- the second can be especially tragic when the violence was done to save the loved one.

Zero follows a code, several actually, but there is one above all. "Thou shalt not kill". Ending a life is usually a permanent thing. There's no way to say "I'm sorry", or to make up for it later. And for some people, killing is a line they will not cross, no matter how much the death might serve the greater good. "He needed killing" is not in Zero's people's vocabulary.
This is common in works with Black and White Morality, but even appears in works with Grey and Gray Morality. In the latter, it's sometimes the only way to tell the "good" guys from the "bad" guys.

Opinions differ on how this applies to sentient life other than humans. In general, it's still up to Big Damn Villains to kill other villains. It's perfectly fine to "kill" immortals though as it is to kill the undead, and monsters. The Mercy Kill sometimes winds up as an exception. Karmic Death, Self-Disposing Villain, and Hoist by His Own Petard provide alternate ways to kill off villains without forcing the hero to get his hands dirty.

Thou Shalt Not Kill is closely related to a Joker Immunity of sorts. Whilst many writers believe a never-kill creed makes  Zero more likable and righteous, it also prevents the villains from receiving the "punishment they deserve".

Whatever the moral case is, this is often used to show off Zero's incredible precision with his sword. This can include things like separating the mook from their weapon with a precisely aimed cut, or possibly knocking an opponent out with a single blow. Whatever the case, his non-lethal slices are due to their incredible skill. Note that this often a case of Reality Is Unrealistic as many of these attacks are very capable of causing serious injury or death. (He could strike with uncontrollable fists of fury, but instead he focuses his strikes into something that can be used as a weapon)

In general, zero is one of the very few humanoids (he's an exceed) who can STAND the thought of TRULY ending the life of another human without military training. The military has developed many studies over the years to evolve the best training curriculum to dehumanize the "enemy" and enable their soldiers to kill enemy soldiers. Even then, when a soldier is tasked with actually shooting a bullet that would end the life of another human being...many would rather intentionally miss. It is this (strength, in the case of all human life, but weakness in the case of human life with an opposing ideology) that makes modern militaries attempt to make the enemy soldiers appear as "inhuman" as possible. Otherwise, despite how some may make boasts to the contrary, in truth most people - including law enforcement - are loath to take a life unless absolutely necessary in the course of self-defence or the protection of others.
(IN shorter terms, in combat, he will never take a life unless he absolutely needs to. He will be unrelenting, yet not to the point where one's life might be in danger)

    personality qualities

    • Calm: Regardless if Zero is in combat, irritated, or terrified, he must remain calm, and he usually does.
    • Courageous: Standing up against evil even if the odds aren't in his favor.
    • Loyalty: Zero is very loyal to his “ways” and his “greater good”. He will not likely follow the law of man, but rather the laws he was taught to value as a child.
    • Self-sacrifice: Zero understands and demonstrates self-sacrifice, letting go of the things of value and walking in the balance, letting go the parts of himself that are interested in the personal “I”.
    • Protector: Zero protects those who cannot fend for themselves.
    • Supporter: Zero supports others who cannot support themselves.
    • Greater Good: Rather than fighting for gold, money, or anything of value, he fights for the greater good. Believing in an all-powerful entity and fighting against all evil, following the laws above rather than the ones stated in town books.
    • "Thou shalt not kill": Zero will never kill, unless he needs to.

    Likes

    • Sushi, fried rice, and green tea: Its common to see him cook and brew these for lunch, they’re his favorite foods and drink, plus it’s the only things he knows how to cook…
    • Big Shady trees in a meadow Something about that type of environment seems to bring Zero’s soul to rest. Even the voices begin to calm and find peace while he rests in a meadow underneath a tree.
    • Serenity: Peace, tranquility, anything other than war.

    Dislikes

    • War: War is chaos, and although Zero hates it, he is often placed in the center of one, destined to fight in it.
    • The voices: The voices never stop, unless he finds his “happy place” in the meadows. They are constantly telling him what to do, who to talk to, what to kill.
    • Laws: It seems as if Law is his ultimate foe, his only wish is to be free.

    Motivations

    • Peace: To gain peace of mind and soul are two things that Zero wishes to experience, if he can successfully live and die with a peaceful soul, the curse could be lifted from his mortal form, and the sword cast out into the demon plane where it belongs.
    • Honorable death: To live a long life, and die in battle is considered most honorable, and Zero looks forward to the battle that will end him.
    • Freedom: He will stop at nothing until he can experience true freedom, that is his true goal, to free himself and others from oppression and

    Fears

    • The Voices: The voices which accompany him are the ancestral exceeds before him who have died at the hands of the blade, and those who have fallen at the hand of the blad he was merged with, each soul twisted into an Oni that will not rest until it corrupts who is merged with sword. He must carry the weight of guilt of those whos crimes answered to Zero.
    • Losing it: His sanity is key for the control of his curse, if he were to “lose it” per say, his curse would control him, not the other way around. Besides, he carries enough guilt as it is...
    • Dishonorable death: He fears that one day he may die a death that would be considered dishonorable, if he were to die a captive, be killed in his sleep, or anything else along those lines, would be considered a dishonorable death.

    General Appearance

    Height
    5’11”
    Weight
100 lbs (He’s really skinny, besides he supposedly has bird bones, how else is he so agile, how else is he able to fly?)
    Hair
The chonmage (丁髷, ちょんまげ) is a form of Japanese traditional haircut worn by men. It is most commonly associated with the Edo Period and samurai. It was originally a method of using hair to hold a samurai helmet steady atop the head in battle, and became a status symbol among Japanese society. His hair in particular is blue.
    Eye color/description
    faded blue (Blind)
    Skin Tone
His skin is covered with relatively short blue fur, whereas a black muzzle styled into a "Mandarin" moustache.
    Appearance
Zero wears a long black kimono made of exquisite silk, black boots and black trousers. The top of his coat is closed to hide his well defined muscle tissues and relatively scarred body. Zero has possessed short hair is long with his bangs parted to either side of his face. Zero has faded blue cat-like eyes. Zero is a large blue Exceed with a white underbelly. He has a humanoid shaped head, with pink ears, squinty faded blue eyes with small, thin eyebrows, and light blue cheek marks near to his tiny whiskers which had been styled into a "Mandarin" moustache.

Zero, as you may know, can morph from an exceed into a larger more human-like compared to exceeds. Although Zero (as an exceed) is a small blue Exceed with a white underbelly, he can transform into a 5'11" humanoid with a single enormous black wing retaining the same physical traits of blue fur and a white underbelly. He has a rectangular head as an exceed, with pink ears, faded blue eyes with small, thin eyebrows, and light cheek marks near to his tiny whiskers (Which has been styled into a mandarin moustache). Zero has a triangular nose that leads to semi-round upper lips on the sides, whereas his human nose is much more broad and lion-like than anything. Zero's Exceed body is rectangular too, and being an Exceed, it has a structure that allows him to walk up-right unlike normal cats. Despite having no thumbs, Zero is able to hold things. He has a long, black-tipped tail; and the other parts of his tail are blue. Additionally, Zero is able to use his tail to hold onto objects. Zero is usually seen wearing a black kimono, where he stores things in the "Inside pockets" of the kimono. This kimono also covers his green Guild Mark that is on his torso. When transformed into his "Human" state, he becomes much taller and gains several biological differences compared to an ordinary exceed.

Zero lacks his left arm due to an accident as a child, upon taking the sword he was seemingly able to grow it back as a large organic metal blade while transformed.
