Entrée de la Cour du Serpent à Plumes Lance_12

Had you asked him a few minutes ago Lance would have sworn that the weirdest thing he’d ever seen was an incident during his teenage years. It was back in his wilder days. Back when instead of finding comfort in calm, happy little things, Lance sought to quell the pointlessness of existence through revelry and partying. Myriads of stars dotted the deep, dark sky, and Lance was attending -if not slightly helping to run- a beach party. Everything was going as expected, until the body of a young man came flying towards him, landing with a loud sound right besides him, barely not falling onto Lance himself. Evidently, one of the jocks, Brad Harpson, was trying to impress people by the fire, using his guitar skills. Instead of a melody however, it was a blast of pure magic that came forth from the instrument’s strings, sending Jason -the victim- to his not-so-happy journey across the beach. They later learned that Brad was something called a bard and thus, capable of invoking the arcane through music. Bardic magic being its proper name – though Brad kept referring to it as Bradic magic.

Alas, that incident could no longer qualify as his answer to the above question. No. Now, that spot was reserved for the very sight that unfolded before his eyes after stepping through the obsidian mirror in the basement of that decrepit little tavern. Or the whole entirety of today, if you counted it as one big, surreal event. That said this place truly was a sight to behold.

    Some Odd Fifteen Minutes Ago

Lance was pretty sure he had the right place. His sources rarely ever let him down after all. Not knowing stuff was a major pet peeve of his, as such acquiring trusted, knowledgeable sources and a dependable information network was something he had long since crossed off his to-do list. Besides, the sad excuse for an establishment that was the Drunken Monkey Tavern was the only place in the nearby area that fit the description of the building he was looking for. Sure of his choice, he entered the dingy tavern.

The atmosphere inside was uncanny and, to those paranoid enough, otherworldly. The staff was quiet, eerie, if not outright freakish, including the man behind the counter. A man wearing a hat and shades –despite the place’s low, almost non-existent lighting- who appeared able to put most chronic smokers to shame with his non-stop chain-smoking. If his sources were correct, and they were, that was Maximon; the exact person his should inquire about Plumed Serpent.

A knowingly overpaid glass of scotch later -always tip the bartender folks- Lance broke the silence, announcing to Maximon his true purpose for being here. Not that anyone would come to the Drunken Monkey for any other reason at all. But certain prefaces and processes should always be kept. He was met with a stare. A stare that felt oddly penetrating, even with the man covering his eyes with shades. Lance was quite certain that Maximon had just looked way further than just into his eyes. Nevertheless, the weird, still-smoking man -seriously, that must have been his tenth cigarette in under fifteen minutes- asked Lance to follow him.

That was how Lance was led underground, deep into the decrepit tavern’s cellar. Face to face with a way too large, obsidian mirror. Wasting no time and steeling his nerves with a deep breath, Lance stepped through. Yet nothing could have prepared him for what he was about to see.

    Now

This dimension, so called the Crossroads, seemed to stretch as far as Lance could see. Rules -of common sense and physics both- seemed to not exist in this place. If they did, they were mutable. Malleable. Shifting. Not far from where he was, Lance could spot a giant, conglomerated heap of brick structures, fused into one giant, physics-defying, floating city. As the very world around it, it too looked to be ever shifting. Its edges would constantly build and tear themselves down as if it was alive and flipping a giant middle-finger to architects across the cosmos.

Running a hand through his violet hair, Lance took a deep breath once again. Taking in the view that unfolded before him. Bizarre. Mystical. Certainly not an everyday sight. At least, not yet. After his induction to one of Earthland’s most notorious Dark Guilds he figured he’d have plenty of time to explore the mind-boggling area that were the Crossroads. After all, the place did more than pique his interest.

But first he had to actually join. For that he needed to meet with the guildmaster. Proper preparation perpetually prevents poor performance. And since good first impressions do matter, Lance had opted to come here wearing one of his most fashionable suits. Meeting new people was an awkward experience in and of itself. No need to make it even more uncomfortable by wearing a clunky piece of armor.

With gloved hands fixing his black tie, Lane begun walking towards the building. Eventually entering the floating city Toltec and Plumed Serpent’s guildhall proper.

    Killer from the Stars
So somewhere on this pitiful little planet was the person responsible for her freedom.

Freedom was such a nasty word to attach to her situation. What the Nazru gave her was freedom -- an open invitation to spy on planets throughout the stars, sewing chaos and destruction among their forces and providing ample targets for the invading force that would eventually arrive. Freedom was being given the chance to adapt technology from all of the species the universe across and incorporate it into her own arsenal of weapons. Freedom was being given a direction and sent on her way. Or at least, that’s how Willow viewed freedom. The poor Xocili scientist had been so well and truly indoctrinated that she had believed that her slavers were providing her free reign. All they asked in return was that she fulfill her duties and locate suitable invasion points for them, weakening defenses and priming suitable races for annihilation or assimilation. But without that, what the hell was she? Without a guiding hand, what was she capable of even doing?

Well, she was certainly capable of coming to the planet where the so-called ‘savior’ lived and get some answers. Earthland was remarkably similar to plenty of other worlds she had been to but at the same time… quite different. The humans, as she learned they were called, looked far more similar to her than other races she had encountered. They also possessed a kind of… supernatural ability called ‘magic’. It allowed them to do most anything they could want -- conjure fire from their hands, turn people into icy sculptures or rend the earth apart with a mere thought. It was a strange trait that she had little doubt the Nazru would greatly appreciate having… if they were still alive. After landing on the planet and hiding her ship, Willow went about her normal routine when she first arrived. She found a means to connect to a global network and downloaded as much information as possible. And boy, was there a lot.

It took Willow weeks to get herself fully acclimated to the world, at least enough to blend in. While the transmission had gone out, mapping out what had happened with the Nazru and alerting all of the Xocili of their current whereabouts, Willow had no desire to rejoin her race. Not yet, at least. They were all busy celebrating having their ‘shackles’ pulled free, not even bothering to wonder what in the cosmos they were going to do with themselves. Maybe they would assimilate into the human world, creating a utopia of mixed beings. Ugh, the very word utopia made her sick to her stomach. The world was structured and governed by laws, but there was no denying that the humans were far more chaotic than they let on. Researching all of the massacres and wars and devastations that had occurred on Earthland filled Willow with a sense of excitement. Maybe her time here wouldn’t have to be wasted simply hiding in a lab and plotting against her own.

She’d have to acquire magic, somehow. That seemed complicated; she understood that people could be gifted magical abilities but a lot of users were simply born with their abilities. A problem but not one that she couldn’t overcome; her science could make almost anything possible, so long as she put her mind to it. If she wanted to acquire more resources, she’d need a reliable source of interaction. Apparently there were groupings of people called ‘guilds’, where mages and non-mages gathered together to get work. Her eye was instinctively drawn to the one called Silver Wolf, as it seemed focused on magical study and antiquity acquisition. But they were all a bunch of lab dweebs, or that’s what she seemed to believe. They were sanctioned by something called the ‘Magic Council’ -- the lawmakers of the land of Fiore. Being under the scrutinous eye of lawmakers was the last thing Willow needed in her life.

But then she heard about an event; a devastation, actually. In the land of Joya, a city had been almost completely wiped off the map, brought to ruin by the actions of a guild called Plumed Serpent. Now that was the kind of chaos that Willow could vibe with. It took some time, several favors and a few dead bodies along the way but she eventually learned of their whereabouts. A decrepit, run-down building called the Drunken Monkey Tavern stood before her, the blue-haired woman cocking her head curiously as she stared at it. A quick scan provided a breakdown of the people inside, including a long stretch of stairs heading into a tunnel. She managed to pick up on a figure stepping forward and then disappearing entirely from existence within the confined walls of the basement. She grinned knowingly before marching inside confidently. The bartender named Maximon had just returned from the basement, already lighting up another cigarette. He and the rest of the patrons of the bar were, no doubt, surprised when Willow kicked in the front door and jaunted in, practically skipping to the bar. Giving a little twirl that dropped her onto a stool, she reached behind her and then pulled forth a large bag. The sack was covered in spots of blood, clues to how she had acquired what lay inside. She gave it a small shove in Maximon’s direction, the top untied enough to show the gathered jewel inside.

“Hiya handsome,” she remarked with a grin. “I was sure hopin’ you could take that there money and tell me where I can go to find Plumed Serpent.” Her tone was bubbly and friendly, despite the slightly manic look in her eyes. Maximon considered her for a long moment, taking several drags off his cigarette as Willow met his gaze, still smiling and bouncing slightly in her chair. After what felt like an eternity of waiting, he gave her a curt nod and waved at her to follow him. Giggling, Willow hopped off the stool and vaulted over the bar to follow directly behind him.

She was right on his heels all the way down into the basement, coming before the massive obsidian mirror. “Oooh now that’s fun,” she remarked as she took a moment to circle the object curiously. Inquisitive nature demanded she inspect it more but she imagined she’d have time and questions for that later. At the moment, Maximon gestured to the mirror and deciding not to waste anymore time, she leapt towards it, finding herself transported to an entirely different realm. “How exciting!” she cackled as she emerged into the Crossroads, grinning from ear to ear. Her attention remained on the vast and curious realm for only as long as it took her to notice two things; one, the floating city directly ahead and the man that had paused near its entry and was moving to enter.

“Heeyyyy!” she called out, breaking into a sprint. Sliding up beside him, Willow turned to face Lance with a cheery grin. “Hi there, good looking. I’m guessing that's how I get to Plumed Serpent, right?” she asked, pointing towards Toltec.

The Crossroads was a dimension that held inherent advantages and disadvantages for the average person. It was a place of refuge, that much was true enough, a quiet bastion away from the increasingly tumultuous corner of Earthland known as Ishgar, though flaws became rather apparent at due pace, as well. One could step foot into this place, this world simultaneously without borders and forever constricted by its own existence, and easily lose oneself in these nigh infinitely twisting and turning folds of space. If one was not familiar with its intricacies, that was. Perhaps it was designed as a test of sorts, a trial that separated those too weak to comprehend the beyond from those who were fit to truly become one of the Plumed Serpents. Power, after all, made no difference between creed, race, religion, between moral and immoral. You either possessed the power to force your will upon this world or you did not.

Yurielle deFleur and her twin sister, Yuliana deFleur, saw themselves as firmly belonging to the former category of individual. Power was a simple tool and could take shapes as manifold as the people who would find themselves wielding it, perhaps in this way acting as a reflection of life itself. The more power, the more one could exercise their right to live. And the deFleur twins, like so many others before them, like those who had come to this place before them, sought to exploit this life to its fullest by the right of power.

This power included, apart from their position of relative dominion within the circle of Serpents, their eyes, naturally. A god-killer's mystic eyes possessed the capability to see past normal sight, beyond regular means held by mundane oculi. The newcomers to the crossroads were perceived the instant they had dared step into the Crossroads.

"Seems like we have company", the younger of the two, Yuliana, remarked with a grin of unrestrained anticipation, her voice echoing through the hallway that formed part of Plumed Serpent's guild base. Her eyes peered into the vast distance, centered on something not quite there. Her sister stopped her stride in much the same way that Yuliana had, shooting a glance over her shoulder in the same direction that the younger twin had gazed. "It would appear so. I suppose it best to greet our new arrivals, wouldn't you agree?". The Flareblaze Witch nodded to her sister, the grin of anticipation widening in a semblance of child-like glee.

A rift would tear space before Yurielle, the woman stepping through, her sister following her with a light, almost carefree step. Amidst the Crossroads, before the two that had found their way into this dimension, a similar rift would open, a black tear in space that seemed to part existence ripping this dimension atwain, only to give rise to two figures that stepped out from it, both coming to a halt some distance away from the incoming arrivals, though blocking the path ahead.

"What have we here?", one of them would call out to the guests, a man and a woman, as it so appeared. "Two little lovebirds that fell from their nest ...-", Yuliana stepped closer, her stride almost a dance in the way her weightless stride carried her forward towards the two as she continued to eye them, scanning them up and down while circling them slowly. "-or merely a couple of lost lambs? Sister, what do you think?". She did not wait for their answers, instead turning to her sister, who had remained completely still, expressionless, and stoic, not moving even to blink since she had stepped out from the rift. Her eyes, however, were firmly locked on the newcomers, her monotonous ringing out in response to the cheerful, nigh ecstatic tone of her sister.

"More worthless dregs to weigh us down in our pursuit of the divine?". The two sisters seemed to be quite synchronous when it came to their thought processes. "Or... hmm, perhaps a potential yet unexplored?". The elder of the two twins, Yurielle, tilted her head ever so slightly, a gesture that, while her expression and tone remained almost eerily steady, implied a certain sense of curiosity. "Tell us, oh strangers, for what reason do you seek out Plumed Serpent?". A simple enough question, of course, with an array of possible answers that could be as complex and plentiful as the grains of sand on a beach. An answer that held power, and in this case, in the presence of Yurielle and Yuliana...

... the power over life and death.

Entrée de la Cour du Serpent à Plumes Lance_12

Religion is weird. Niche religions are even weirder. However, the weirdest ones of them all - and, admittedly, those happen to be the most interesting ones as well – are mock religions. Those primarily created to prove a counterpoint or, initially, as sarcasm.

A population of witches and wizards, in a far away island nation, have come to hold such beliefs of the latter nature – or at least Lance thinks of it as so – since they hold a superstitious fear of the Gods of Irony, who would strike down foolish people who dared invoke ancient, cursed phrases such as “I don’t know how things could get worse” or “what could possibly go wrong” or “this will be the best Christmas Walford has ever had”.

While a vehemently non-religious person, lately, Lance couldn’t help but think this deep fear of the Gods of Irony had some truth to it…seeing as whenever he thought of something, the opposite seemed to manifest. Case in point: he was thinking of how he was alone in a physics-defying realm – that promised endless adventures into the surreal – ready to enter an ever-mutating building, trying to mentally prepare for the oncoming, inevitable social interactions, only for his thoughts to be interrupted by a loud voice.

Gracefully turning to face his thoughts’ interrupter, who apparently sprinted to close the gap between them, his eyes fell on a young woman with a cheery grin on her face. Shorter than him, with long blue hair style in twin braids and an outfit that would find her feeling equally at home in both a punk rock concert and a rave. Her body was covered in tattoos of blue and pink and her eyes, alternating between the same colors as her ink, betrayed something…wild.

Lance wasn’t a person to judge a book by its cover. But he knew, and could see, crazy. A word others would use in contempt, but to him it was a compliment. After all, he wasn’t exactly sane himself. What which would generate aversion in other, instead gave to Lance a feeling of nostalgia. A flashback to moments long lost in time, as the young woman reminded him of quite a few people from his past. At least, in appearance and vibes.

This – Lance, in contrast to his usual, rational way of thinking, was a person that firmly believed in vibes. He didn’t know if it was a byproduct of his curse or neurodivergence, but he was always able to easily get a feel of other people. Even with minimal or no interaction at all. As if their personality was a weird aura their body exuded that he could touch and contemplate. One could call it a highly advance form of gut feeling for short, but that hardly sounded as interesting and captivating as the way Lance thought of it.

“I reckon it is.” he answered the cheery girl’s question softly. Her compliment didn’t go unregistered, but he’d still not settled on if she was being true about it or it was just her way of speaking. “Though, I’d wager I am as new here as you are.” he added, after the briefest of pauses. A tinge of melancholy ever-present in his voice.

Lance’s lips momentarily twitched into a smile. One of his more sincere ones. It was always polite to lead introductions with a smile, especially if your passive facial expressions were as brooding and, slightly, intimidating as his. As such, he’d made a habit out of it. Usually, it would just be him being polite. His lips would smile, but his eyes wouldn’t. But this time…this time was different and for fractions of a second, he truly smiled. A lopsided, sincere smile. Even if the emotion behind it was this sudden surge of nostalgia, something which his eyes made evident.

‘Damn it!’ he mentally cursed at himself. He’d gotten swayed by his feelings for a moment and his body language gave away more information than he’d be comfortable with in such a situation. Fortunately, it was a very brief moment and the witch – at least he reckoned she was a witch – would not manage to catch the deeper insights of it.

“Lance Trystane.” the words left his mouth as he extended his right hand. Palm slightly turned upwards. He was unsure if he’d opt for a handshake or hand-kiss – a habit that still clung to him from his older days, for, as they say, old habits die hard – thus, the bit unorthodox hand positioning. In a manner uncharacteristic for him, to his own surprise, the former, short-lived, nostalgic smile turned into a slightly amused grin. Equally lopsided “I really like the ink.” he told her. Perhaps, it was entirely because of this nostalgia that Lance broke character.

His introduction with Willow – as that turned out to be her name – was cut short however, as, midways through their conversation, reality once again shifted right before the duo’s eyes. A black tear, seeming to rip the very fabric of space itself apart, appeared and from it emerged two figures.

Two girls of very similar appearance.

Were it not for their eyes – one pair like frozen wastes, the other like molten gold – and the way they each dressed and carried themselves differently, he’d have trouble telling them apart. If they were two ordinary girls, that is. But these two were far from ordinary.

    It was them.

The incident at Felidae city was still quite fresh in his mind. The mayhem and destruction that claimed thousands of lives. He wasn’t caught in the explosions. He was barely even hurt in the ordeal. But experiencing such an event firsthand was something that’d get forever etched in one’s mind. So, having gazed unto carnage from a first-row seat how could he forget its source?

Their hair as white as the intoxicants from an agonized, anguished past Lance was desperate to escape from. Both of them oozed power. Power and danger. The same danger their hair jogged from his memories, both recent and distant. White as the powder from an era nigh forgotten. White as the ashes that fell in Felidae like snow.

There was no doubt, it was them.

For a moment, Lance’s jaw clenched. Every muscle on his body contracted. His eyes widened. He lost composure. For the second time today. It wasn’t so much fear, as it was surprise. For two people he had never actually met, Lance had certain regards for the sisters. Admiration, for having brought a city to ruins by themselves, was one. Irritation, for doing so while he was there, was another. But he wasn’t afraid. In fact, he viewed this as an opportunity. After all, it was that spectacle that had him convinced to seek out Plumed Serpent instead of Silver Wolf.

He was certainly not expecting to meet them so soon, though. Certainly, he wasn’t expecting them to suddenly appear in front of him and Willow either. As such, his surprise, while unwelcome, was understandable.

Steeling his eyes, and nerves, he mentally shrugged: dispersing the sudden chill that run through him. Their comments were tuned out – registered, but not focused on – as he took a couple of seconds, carefully thinking how to reply to the blue-eyed sister’s question.

“I want in.” he said. His voice was calm and polite, but where it usually dripped with melancholy it now, instead, was confident. Self-assured. This was business and that was his game face.

Lance run his leather-clad hand through his purple hair, letting it rest on the back of his head. In stark contrast to his polite tone, he let a tiny bit of the cursed energy inside him leak out. It steeped and cloaked the surrounding atmosphere. Polluting the ambient ethernano. Corrupting them. This, in most cases, was not considered a polite action. However, this was not “most cases”. It was a calculated action; taken to dissuade any notions of weakness his previous reactions might have invoked. A controlled action, so the corruption of ethernano was feint, but not entirely unnoticeable.

“After all, I gather this is the ideal place for me.” Lance continued his answer “I find it that Plumed Serpent will provide both opportunities and an explosive freedom for me to pursue my goals.” giving a particular emphasis on the word explosive, hoping his insinuation wouldn’t fly over the sisters’ heads.

Entrée de la Cour du Serpent à Plumes Empty Re: Entrée de la Cour du Serpent à Plumes

Post by Willow 23rd January 2022, 7:28 pm

    Killer from the Stars
Whoever the man was that she had come rushing up behind, he was quite the handsome human. Taller than her by a good margin, lean but clearly chiseled beneath his dapper clothes. Willow’s eyes performed a quick scan over him, analyzing his features and appreciating what she saw. He took only a fraction of a second to study her as well, most likely surprised by her sudden intrusion on how lonely trek towards the floating city. Willow did have a knack for interrupting a carefully constructed path and diverging it, more often than not. After taking one another in, she asked in reference to the city and its affiliation with Plumed Serpent and he admitted that he believed it was. It seemed he didn’t really know -- a new member as well? What a coincidence. He even came right out and admitted his minted status in terms of the guild, earning him an impish grin. “Well, I wouldn’t say that. You were here first so I suppose that means you are more tenured than me, if only slightly,” she teased him, holding up her fingers and spreading them by centimeters to orchestrate their differences.

His smile was… genuine but still odd. It was as if the features of his face were far more practiced in the art of presentation than the dulled glimmer in his eyes. Yet it was like a flame had been lit that often didn’t seen tinder, the light in his eyes shining, if only briefly, along with the rest of his sincerity. But within that same instant, his show of grace became more subdued, his smile warm but practiced, his gaze almost deadened. Most people might have ignored it and moved on but not Willow. She made a mental note about it, quite literally fashioning a list in her head about him already. He almost seemed like a broken toy, though Willow viewed most beings as toys for one reason or another. But she couldn’t help but wonder what damage lay within the confines of the physical form that was Lance Trystane, a name he put forth a moment later.

He offered his hand at a strange angle, though greeting someone seemed to vary depending on where she was. There were plenty of planets where greetings were more physical than she would expect and others where the best mannered introductions took place several miles away. Whatever the case, she brought her hand up and met his in a firm but somehow still soft grip. “Willow. No pretty last name attached like Trystane,” she returned the favor, giving him a slightly flirty grin. He complimented her tattoos and she took a moment to lean back to look at her own art. “Thanks, I designed and applied them myself. I’ve actually got a couple other ones but those are in more… intimate places.”

She was quite curious to what else she could learn about Lance but any attempt to continue the conversation was brought to a screeching halt. The world in front of her seemed to shift and shimmer and then a rift of some kind opened up, the very fabric of reality torn asunder by the two figures emerging from its depths. Willow could not hide the amazement in her eyes as she looked at the portal, the suppliers of it seemingly unimportant against the spectacle that was a literal magic egress. But once one of the women spoke, Willow trained her gaze on them, surprised yet again to find matching women, seamless to one another save for one or two details. Her eyes did another quick scan over two of them, recording the information that it found. The first one to speak wondered what they had come across, remarking to herself and Lance as lovebirds or lambs, the latter something she did not recognize. A quick search through the Lacnet provided an answer and she smiled warmly at the two. “Well we’ve just met so I doubt lovebirds is the most appropriate term, even if he is tall, dark and handsome,” she said, shooting a wink at Lance quickly before turning her attention back to Yuliana and Yurielle.

The other sister took the shared thought process further, wondering if the two were merely interruptions to their ascent to the ‘divine’. Willow wasn’t sure what that was either but she shelved that search for later as that self-same sibling wondered if they had potential yet untapped. Willow imitated Yurielle’s slight head tilt, genuinely as curious about the two of them as they were of the newly arriving pair. And then they demanded to know why they had come to Plumed Serpent. Opting to see what the ‘seasoned’ newbie would say first, Willow turned her gaze to look at Lance over her shoulder. After a few seconds, he claimed he wanted in and after running his hand through his hair, her internal sensors alerted her to a shift in the air. Though she was hardly programmed to read magical signatures or pressures, there was no denying a tension that settled in the space around them. A show of his abilities, no doubt -- evidence of the wondered potential that one of the sisters had mentioned. With his showcase, he stated that Plumed Serpent was the perfect place for him, as it provided opportunity and freedom -- no, explosive freedom. He said the word with a heavy emphasis, most likely insinuating some knowledge about the sisters. She’d probably be able to follow up on it if she ran a facial recognition search through Earthland’s databases… but where was the fun in that?

“I’ll admit, Plumed Serpent wasn’t my first choice,” she spoke up, leaning back casually. “I’d hoped to join a guild that would give me access to magical artifacts and Silver Wolf would have provided the perfect opportunity for that. Buuuut the problem is, I’m not exactly a ‘follower of the rules’,” she stated, throwing up finger quotes. “My line of research and development usually winds up being… well, more explosive and devastating. And considering how new I am to Fiore, I don’t want to be getting on the bad side of the law until I’m more prepared to handle it. I heard through reliable sources that you all provided a level of freedom most other guilds do not. So I figured I’d make good with ol’ glasses up in the bar and see if I could buy my way to an introduction.” Of course, there was the fact that if the rest of the Xocili were on Earthland, they would most likely congregate to Silver Wolf, considering it’s guild mission. She wasn’t quite ready to encounter any more of her people. Not until she had established a foundation for herself.

Entrée de la Cour du Serpent à Plumes YuriYuliHeaders

Two pairs of eyes moved, shifting like a sudden gust of wind among the roar of a storm when one of the two newcomers made a move to respond to the twins' abnormal line of questioning, one pair not dissimilar to the deepest snow of winter, the other radiating an intensity almost aflame. The man was tall, taller than Yurielle and Yuliana both. Despite the fact that their gaze had to wander upward ever-so-slightly, it seemed they would, paradoxically enough, still find a way to look down on him, in a sense, the eyes, which so often betrayed a person's true feelings, were a true gateway to the soul, making that much obvious. Yuliana twisted, turned in her relentless stride, her attitude resembling a predator ready to pounce on a particularly delicious prey animal in a spectacle of starved expectation, facing the young man of mysterious, yes, she would even go as far as calling it undiscernable, nature with a still-widening grin. Yurielle, in stark contrast to her younger twin, remained frozen, the fact that she still had yet to make a single unnecessary movement becoming more and more apparent as time slowly passed, unsettlingly so, as not once she seemed to have blinked while staring at the male newcomer.

"Oh? Is that so?", the Flareblaze Witch asked upon the man's statement with a tone of voice that gave away an obvious and certain kind of light playfulness, though hid within a covert sense of arrogance. Yuliana observed, at first, noticed the shift of tension in the atmosphere around them, something that could be described as the at first subtle, then obvious feeling of raw power that accompanied magical energy, though this, the thing that he possessed, it was... somehow different from the regular arcane. The dry air of the Crossroads around them crackled with power. Unrefined, in a way, but corrupted in nature. Raw, unrestrained, and somehow accompanied by a feeling of pure and unfiltered malice that sought to consume, and consume, and continue to consume until nothing was left. If one had thought that the grin on Yuliana's face could not get any wider, well, they would be proven wrong in this instance, a toothy and obviously exhilarated smile pulling her lips upwards. This one, she could tell, yes, he had potential. The potential for power, which was, naturally, the only thing of real importance among the Serpents.

"Seems like you got some determination in you, after all. Good for you. As for the, well, explosive thing you're looking for...", she paused briefly, twisting her body in that same weightless stride, those decidedly dance-like motions and turns anew as she stepped closer to the man, one step, two steps, until she had gotten considerably closer to his right side, an arms-length being all that separated the two. If Lance would turn towards her, look her in the eyes, he would see a trembling gaze upon him, pupils twitching and vibrating with an intense aura of barely concealed insanity locked inside an expression of pure and overwhelming bloodlust that twisted her mouth open unnaturally. Her voice, barely more than a whisper, was laced with venom, the girl finding herself brought back to the memory of that not long past day. The implication did not escape her, no, and the fact that this individual seemed to possess knowledge regarding the momentary humiliation that had befallen her back then, oh, it made her furious, that much being reflected in her tone. "...what do you happen to know about Felidae?".

While Yuliana dealt with the man, Yurielle focussed her attention on the other one, the woman, the arctic oculi, still unblinking, turning with her head towards the newcomer. She appeared much chattier than the other one, the words pouring from her in an unrestrained stream that presented a more or less coherent answer to the Icestorm Witch's earlier question. She would, of course, listen quietly, her unmoving eyes seeming to pierce directly through the woman, though she repeated the same gesture of curiosity she had shown earlier, the tilting of the head by just a few degrees making evident a subdued level of interest, though her explanation also contained information that gave rise to more questions. "Freedom?", she asked, her monotonous, albeit calm voice ringing out anew. This woman was not from Fiore, as she had explained, though appeared to be entirely capable of the spoken language used here without a detectable accent. She stated that she was new to this nation, though seemed to fit right in here. A curious, if not suspicious fact. Was she hiding from something, had she fled from somewhere? It would explain her motive.

"If it is freedom you seek, then Plumed Serpent is not the place for you". Her tone was harsh, final, and yet still delivered in that same utterly bland and unchanging monotone. "This is a group of people that offers only power. If you let yourself be distracted by things like freedom, discouraged by institutions like law, then perhaps you may lack power...", she paused briefly, Yurielle's eyes wandering over the woman's form once more before she continued, "... but if you seek the power to back up your ideals, if you pursue it with a fervor unbound by the conventions of this society, then perhaps you shall yet rise to it and take it for yourself. Tell me, stranger-", the Icestorm Witch found herself pausing again, tilting her head just slightly once more. The expression on Yurielle's face seemed to change, those eyes, those deep marbles of ice-blue hues carrying a wise glint of frigid calculation, of speculative, curious wonder within them. "-do you have what it takes to aspire to freedom? To greatness? Or will you fall behind in its pursuit and remain a slave to that which shackles you forever?".
