Job Description: An old folk tale of a dark and powerful mage called the Darkling, typically used to warn youth against vanity, comes to life in this job. In the stories, the Darkling is a cursed mage who is cursed to live for eternity without love and occasionally kidnaps beautiful youth to regain what he has lost. The guild was contacted because a local family, the Gelderari family, who runs a stable in the area has encountered a serious problem. They say that their teenage niece, Anise, has been receiving love letters and gifts (flowers, jewelry) with only the letter D and the crest of a raven to identify where they are coming from. The most recent gifts and letters have become more extravagant, expensive and almost urgent and pleading in nature. Anise, at first, enjoyed the attention but eventually found the secret admirer truly unsettling. Now, she has gone missing and the only idea they have as to where they have gone is a most recent love letter discovered in her bedroom yesterday morning. It reads:


The Gelderari family gives you all the letters and gifts they have found and you need to use them to locate young Anise. They believe that the old folklore of the Darkling matches their own circumstances and must be real, warning you to take extra caution. Considering he is cursed, they suggest looking in the Cursed Lands as a start.

• Enemy Rank: Weak: 10x Area Monsters/Dangers; Depending on where your location is this could be cliffs hidden in mists, packs of wolves, mind illusions, or even a very large predatory cat with glowing white fur. Up to the roleplayer to be creative here.

• Enemy Rank: 5x Ghosts and Husks; Young people who fought the Darkling and refused to be wed found their lives drained from them- feasted upon by the Darkling himself. They wander his home/lair/area angry, forgotten and willing to take out their anger on any they come across. They could also be those who got far enough to try to rescue a lost loved one and failed. These ethereal enemies are all very swift because they are ghosts or soul-less husks.

The Darkling has many servants dressed in black and white maid attire and three prior brides who have joined him in his cursed state of living. It is possible to run into any number of them and they are efficient with magic and melee.

• Enemy Rank: 1x Boss: Darkling; A tall male, occasionally seen with horns on his head, dressed elegantly. He seems to be a timeless villain, powerful and immortal. When killed, the depth of his dark pain and his twisted desire for love seem to revive him from nothing more than ash or thin air on the one year anniversary of his death. He has the demeanor of a gentleman, disliking a battle, but if attacked or if his kidnapped youth is stolen from him, an awakened unstoppable rage will have to be dealt with. The Darkling lives a cursed life, enjoys manipulating and employing tricks and will even fake give up to gain an advantage in a fight. His spells are powerful and damaging, but so is the scream of pain he lets out when his bride to be is taken from him, or when he is given a death blow.

  Feint: A spell to instantly teleport and deliver a melee attack with his rapier
  Scream: An ability where if his bride to be is taken or if he is given a death blow, he lets out a scream so loud it can cause temporary hearing damage as well as blow back those in a burst range of him with sonic boom like effects.
  Acid Spray: A burst spell which sprays a yellow acid, deals damage over time as it corrodes through armor or flesh
  Elemental Blaze: An area of effect spell where the Darkling can summon forth a one round blaze of any element he chooses (fire, ice, wind, electricity, etc) to deal damage
  Paralytic Darkness: A single or multi-target spell which allows him to place a sphere of darkness so thick it cannot be seen through over another person. Often this darkness is so terrifying that the fear can temporarily paralyze.
  Betray Mind: The Darkling can occasionally read a mind and use a person's knowledge or fears against it. He loves to manipulate and decieve.
