    Private Plants Are Expected

Post by Hirai Miya 15th December 2018, 12:36 pm

Her silver hair swung across the back of her shoulders as she turned to look at a different part of the board. There were lots of jobs for guildless mages. Most of them leaned neutral, but some were clearly meant to promote good work while others involved good people by requesting violence towards them. It was a mix, Talonia and its open mission board. Miya had not been a guildless mage for long, because she had not been a working mage for long.

Short fingers curled around the edges of one paper, stuck up with a clear plastic pushpin. A sense of tension finally left her joints and she reached up on her tip toes to pull out the pin and take the paper. Where formerly it had been decidedly neutral, her lips were slightly curved upwards as she stepped out of the common area and headed towards the nearest train station.

Upon arriving near Beanstalk Village, Miya smoothed out the job slip and began to read it over, hunched over on the train car seat with her brow smooth but her front teeth working her bottom lip gently. Her fingers traced over different words, and occasionally her lips parted fully to mouth something. Soon other passengers sat up straighter as the car slowed to a screechy halt, sparks flying from between the wheels and tracks. A conductor shouted incomprehensibly, and with straight shoulders and wide eyes Miya trailed after the other travelers.

She wrapped her teal jacket more tightly around herself and set off at a half-run in the direction of Beanstalk Village, still clutching the mission paper in her hand. The journey was apparently uneventful, and when Miya arrived the sun still hung high in the sky. It did not take long for the mage to stop once she set out from the village, an air of intention surrounding her movements. The first time she did stop, it was in a rather empty space, populated with a few shrubs and overhanging trees aside from her own person. Miya stomped on a few of the under growing plants and then continued on; she paused again a few minutes later to repeat the action but soon switched to grinding them into the earth instead of the pure single unit of pressure in a stomp.

Sometimes it seemed like her targets were full of more resistance than others, but the point of her presence could have plausibly been a sort of gardening. She finished late in the day, with the last rays of light straining to touch her skin by the time she returned to the village. At a vague point during her mission she had picked up a large purple flower, its stem quite curved with three thick leaves. It was cradled in her arms, pressed between them almost in an embrace that touched no flesh and was strange to see.

Miya walked into Beanstalk Village and proceeded to visit what seemed to be shops, in the order that they were distributed around the little settlement. She took the longest in the herbalist's shop, and afterwards she emerged without that odd purple plant in her arms. The girl emerged from the following establishments rather with things having entered her possession, especially shopping bags or little boxes all gathered rather precariously in her embrace before Miya dumped all of them into one of the largest bags she had just received.

Then she left Beanstalk Village, her expression placid.
