    History/Story
History: Born into a religious order that followed a strict set of rules in order to appease their God of ‘Fate’. Her life since birth had been dictated through a series of schedules from her morning duties to a ritual in bidding the setting sun goodnight. To disobey these schedules would result in punishment from the Elders..as would any displays that would be abnormal to Fate.  Magic was considered a taboo as normal human beings could alter the very fate of reality through simple acts of conjuring flames in mid-air. To disregard the natural law in such a fashion was the ultimate sin for those that lived in the Order.  When Areem’s magic first manifested it was considered a hushed scandal.  It had finally broken free at the tender age of thirteen.

After all a child’s head could be filled with fairy tales of mythical beasts from the hushed voice of some kind old lady. That it wasn’t possible for small wings to sprout from her hips as she stole a sweet roll from the kitchen. Her, the uncharacteristically quiet and kind child. It was impossible to describe her anger as she watched the few select books the Order had be burned for ‘heretical’ passages..one such book was of myths.  The scandal erupted into complete chaos as she was dragged before the Elders, bleeding through her robes from some unknown source. The man that had brought her there proclaimed her a heretic, as the bloodied fabric was torn from her hips revealing damp and mucus-covered wings from her hips..still weeping blood. The Elders were shocked to find a Mage amongst their midst..but did one thing wrong. They lied, as she was proclaimed to be cursed...a Monster in a Human’s skin. Thus, it was their ‘duty’ to cleanse her and release the ‘Human’ spirit inside. Cleansing was just another word for beatings and treatment not fit for a rabid dog..her Magic did not just vanish..but grew with each day that passed.

It was discovered that fatigue would cause her ‘abnormalities’ to vanish as she was forced into hard labor during the nights to tire her out during the midnight hours. Her wrists and ankles became bound to her ‘caretakers’ after one instance were she accidentally strained too hard and flew only a few feet off the ground..resulting in her living ‘weights’.  Wings changed from little things of fluff and sinewy muscle to a grand pair of wings with tips that dragged along the earth. This sudden growth alarmed the Elders who thought that their ‘cleansing’ would erase this problem..as a drastic solution would have to take place. It wasn’t against their rules to remove ‘abnormalities’ as her wings were cut from her body..it became a ritual of sorts..only to return the following day in a variety of forms. Small and pitiful, lush and strong...it only fueled their radical ideals..that it was Fate testing them.

It was one final night that drove her to the brink of humanity. As her wings snapped out at their attackers..driving one into a column and another sprawled on the ground. The knife returned their owners through their hearts and throats as Areem felt the blood soak her feathers as Fate finally answered her question. Who was she really? A human cursed to be abnormal? A Monster in the flesh of a Human? No, it wasn’t either...as she fled her Order with only a set of stolen robes on her back..to start over as Mage. Magic and Mages were something new and exciting after leaving her isolated life..but her enchantment with the ‘normal world’ faded. As something dark and bitter lurked in her mind that this new world was still much like her old one only with new lies.

Expect now she had control over her destiny..to reach the clouds..and beyond.

RP Sample: You always hear stories of trances that people didn't understand what came over them..one moment everything was fine and the next..something completely different. A bunch of lies, you say? If only that were true as Areem looked down at her blood-stained hands..a stark constrast of white and red..and the irritating sensation of drying blood. It would be hours of work to remove it from her white cloak as the fabric greedily sucked up the liquid. The source of it all..the mutilated corpse of a horse-like creature with multiple eyes and a set of tentacles replacing four legs..it's body ripped open by a set of claws judging by the wounds. The inner anatomy was bizarre enough with purplish flesh mingling with green. Within seconds a blade had cut through a piece of flesh and stored away in a tube...Research.

Scavenger. Corpse-Collector. Defiler. There were a few select words that could be described as Areem went about her travels..the rush of energy that flowed through her veins upon finding a carcass, halfway picked over by local predators. The uses that could be diverted from the parts..blood, organs or even the flesh could be useful in the right circumstances. Even local weren't upset when some local beast was hunted down one day segmented into parts to be sold by a hooded merchant. Yet lines had been drawn after it had been noted the same night, their single claim to fame had found it's grave defiled. The corpse itself hadn't been disturbed, but a scrap of fabric had been ripped from the ceremonial robes..with the only witness being a drunk. A wild story of a giant bird grasping the fabric in it's claw..before taking off into the night. Said story changed with each retelling..the grave-robber was actually a beautiful woman with a cloak of black feathers. No, it was woman wearing the beak of a crow.. with golden eyes. No, it was merely the local doctor wearing a plague-doctor's mask..at night..to check on the graves.

All lies had some truth to them..it was true that Areem was the grave-robber. Beauty was in the eye of the beholder..so the witness saw a beautiful woman clad in ebony feathers..in truth..her wings. Or that a shining claw caressed the corpse's robe with the gentlest of touch's as if trying to grasp any remaining magic...Only to have it slip between her grasp.
