//Primary Magic: Archive Magic (Archivist)
//Secondary Magic: None yet
//Caster or Holder: Caster
//Description: Archive is a relatively newly-created magic crafted by the Magical Research and Development division of the Magic Council. The magic uses concepts not commonly found in this world, and as such is essentially a magical supercomputer. When the Main Terminal is operational, it appears as a floating holographic screen with interactive display customized by the caster, additional screens can be created at no additional drain. Archive is not the sort of magic one uses to become overwhelmingly powerful, but it is one of the most versatile and useful magic forms to date. Depending on the Applications, or Apps, that are currently activated, a number of different effects can be achieved.
//Strengths: With a sound and tactical mind, almost any situation can be accounted for.
-A nearly limitless storage of data with instantaneous recall.
-The storage of spells as well as their activation and methods of casting.
-Applications customize usage of the Main Terminal and Archive's basic spells.
-Main Terminal can run all Applications available.
-Main Terminal can be reduced to Portable Terminal to resume full movement speed.
-One of the most useful Support magics to a team.
-Very decent defenses.
-Decent basic attack.
-Any Caster spell can be stored/Information on all spells including Holder spells can be stored.
-Applications can be used to alter aspects of basic spells that come with Archive.
-Applications not based on rank.
-Archive's basic spells cannot be copied without also having access to a Terminal.
//Weaknesses: Naturally, such widespread versatility and usefulness comes at the cost of a lack of overbearing power, and without careful budgeting can easily leave the user weakened.
-When the Main Terminal is active, cannot move at full movement speed. Speed reduction by one half.
-When the Main Terminal is active, magic power does not regenerate. Terminal itself does not drain magic.
-Each Application is a slow, constant flat-rate drain on magic reserves. This is in addition to spells cast. The magic drain is cumulative per Application currently active. As magic power/rank increases, the drain per Application is not as severe, but adding extra Applications will still increase the drain.
-When Main Terminal is in Portable Terminal mode, it can only maintain one (1) Application per Rank, the others must be shut down.
-Each Application must be brought online before usage. Cannot attack during the turn that an Application is being brought online.
-To store a spell that is currently being used by someone, the user must observe it being cast. The user cannot attack for the turn in which they are observing the spell.
-Only the spells of Caster Magic can be transferred, not including Slayer Magic or Unique Magic. Holder Magic cannot be transferred as it relies on magical items.
-For spells that are not capable of being transferred/granted to self or others, only the knowledge of the spell can be transferred, nothing more.
-Every two (2) Applications takes up a spell slot.
-User takes +10% damage from Thunder-elemental spells while Main Terminal is active.
-User has access to many different techniques, actions, and options - but without careful managing and planning ahead, the user can easily and quickly find themselves without magical power reserves left.
//Abilities/Powers:
-Main Terminal- Must be active for Archive spells and Applications to function. Does not drain magic power by itself. Can access info database, area maps, and basic minor functions such as calculation and text processing. The Main Terminal is solid only for the caster. Each Archive's database is unique to that user's Archive, and cannot be accessed by other persons, with or without their own Archives.
-Portable Terminal/Laptop- Smaller version of the Main Terminal, can only support one Application per rank of the user, and one screen not used in attack/defense.
-Can store spells learned about, and directly observed while cast by someone else. With the Data Transfer Function, the user can transfer a one-use version of the spell to an ally. User can add spells from database to the Action Bar prior to combat, but spells not originating from a magic that the user can cast are cast as one Rank lower than they normally would be, and with an increased cooldown.
-Varied Applications allow for customization of Basic Archive Spells, such as augmenting the attack spell and/or defense spell, or making the effects of spells such as Surveillance Drones and Telepathy quasi-permanent.
-User can move up to two (2) extra screens around an area of fifteen (15) meters by detaching them from the Main Terminal and conducting each screen with one hand. Screens are solid for the caster, and can essentially be used to levitate by standing on one. Effect limited to twenty feet vertical movement (up/down) for each screen. When not attended, a screen dismisses itself after one post.
Archive Functions
- Spoiler:
- Area Mapping
While the Main Terminal is active, it constantly receives topographical data over a wide radius about the surrounding area akin to passive magical sonar, which is processed through Archive's recognition cogitators to create detailed maps of the area. Does not show information regarding underground or the interior of buildings. Does not report on small items or singular and normal-sized living creatures. Only groups of people/normal-sized creatures and large objects such as boulders, houses, vehicles, and large monsters are recognized and drawn onto the map. Area Mapping also extends to persons with Archive's Telepathy cast on them, as well as Surveillance Drones, using both to increase its mapping area.
Rank D: 60 meters
Rank C: 125 meters
Rank B: 250 meters
Rank A: 500 meters
Rank S: 1 kilometer
Action Bar (+50% Cooldown)
The Action Bar must be set up before combat begins, due to the selection process requiring the user to scroll and search through the database to select spells to place on it. The Action Bar can only contain spells that are not related to Archive. Spells on the Action bar have their cooldowns increased by half again of the normal spell's cooldown due to using unfamiliar magic. These are cast through Archive, and do not require Somatic or Verbal casting components, just magical energy to be provided for the spell. The caster must be of equal rank to the spell before it can be added to the Action Bar.
Rank D: 2 Spells (Equivalent to Rank: D)
Rank C: 2 Spells (Equivalent to Rank: D)
Rank B: 2 Spells (Equivalent to Rank: C)
Rank A: 2 Spells (Equivalent to Rank: B)
Rank S: 2 Spells (Equivalent to Rank: A)
Spell Packaging (Zipped Spells)
Spells not on the Action Bar, the user may pre-cast while in the thread. (No showing up with a Pre-packaged spell.) Packaging a spell does not take up a spellcasting action, but the spell that was packaged cannot be cast until after the next turn. One rank of spell may be kept Zipped per spellcaster rank. Packaging a spell beforehand costs half as much magical energy, and then the other half upon casting. Casting a Zipped spell can be done at the expense of one's movement speed for that post while they manually unpack it using the interface device on their Terminal, allowing it to be cast alongside the spell that the user might currently be casting at that time.
Favorites List
One Application per spellcaster rank can be applied to the Favorites List, coming online when the Main Terminal does without having to be activated manually. The Favorites List must be set before combat begins.
Data Transfer
One of the most useful and concrete Functions of Archive is the ability to transfer information stored in the database across mediums. This medium can be the mind of another sentient being, or even programming or data storage into devices such as lacrima. Perhaps the most noted ability of Data Transfer is the ability to grant singular spells that are stored in the database to others in the vicinity. However, this comes with limitations. The caster cannot grant themselves spells directly from the database, but the same sort of restrictions apply to those whom they do share knowledge of a spell with:
-The target of Data Transfer's spell-granting ability must be of equal or greater rank than the spell being granted to them.
-The target can only cast this spell one time, which burns up the knowledge of how to cast the spell after it is cast.
-The spell granted is then cast at one rank lower in damage/effect than the actual rank of the spell.
-If the spell is not cast within 5 rounds of receiving it, the spell vanishes from the target's mind and ability to cast it is lost until Data Transfer is applied a second time.
-The same person cannot benefit from the same spell of Data Transfer twice within ten rounds.
-Data Transfer's spell-granting ability has a cooldown per person of 3 rounds.
Aside from the spell-granting ability, data processed and downloaded to others can be shared through the Telepathy network of the user's Archive Main Terminal, allowing maps and information to flow freely to a group of people instead of one target at a time, in which case the target of Data Transfer needs to be within the initial spellcasting range of the Telepathy spell to work.
D Rank Spells:
- Spoiler:
- Name: Aggression (Level 1)
Rank: Rank D
Type: Offensive
Description: Whether operating the Main Terminal or Portable Terminal, Aggression is cast with one hand indicating the target like a cursor. Three screens are then generated each bearing the flashing word "Force", that then move to the target.
Strengths:
-When cast by the user, three screens fade into existence and move to attack a singular target indicated by the user. The screens approach in a triangle pattern, and emit a strong blast of kinetic energy and momentum from between the two, dealing Force-type damage both magical and physical rather than elemental and causes D-rank damage. This blast is strong enough to knock normal-sized opponents back.
=Knockback: (Interrupts casting)=
-Rank D: 15 feet
-Rank C: 5 feet
-Rank B: Knocked over/Staggered
-Rank A and above: No effect
Weaknesses:
-Aggression screens can only attack one target at a time.
-Aggression makes only one attack.
-Cooldown of 3 posts.
-Attack range is limited to 100 feet.
-Requires one hand to direct attack, can prevent the usage of other Archive functions that require a free hand.
Name: Rejection (Level 1)
Rank: Rank D
Type: Defensive
Description: The user creates several individual screens that expand and move to intercept oncoming attacks, with a reaction speed similar to the user's own. These screens are the same sort created as peripheals by the Main Terminal, and are customized by the user. Each Rejection Screen will flash "Force" on its main panel.
Strengths:
-While active, the shield-screens will attempt to interpose themselves between the caster and the attacker's magic/physical attacks. Directed by the user's free hand.
-The user can choose to automate the shield-screens so that Archive handles their blocking. When using the Automated Defense, the screens intercept ANY direct attack before it reaches the caster's body.
-Attacks not blocked by the Automatic Defense are still intercepted, but cause full damage without coming into direct contact with the user.
-Blocks physical and purely energy-based attacks.
=Reject Shield=
Rank D: Withstands 4 attacks/spells.
Rank C: Withstands 2 attacks/spells.
Rank B: Pierced, but reduces damage by 25% - destroys all Reject Screens and ends Rejection spell duration.
Rank A and above: Auotmatically fully-pierced.
Weaknesses:
-Not as adept at handling attacks from multiple fronts.
-Screens only face one direction. Attacks from behind are fully-effective.
-Spaces between shield-screens can be exploited by fluid-type attacks.
-Duration of 2 turns on Rejection screens.
-Cooldown of 4 turns on Rejection Screens.
-Attacks blocked in Automated Defense mode still deal 25% of their damage to the user at all times.
-Reject Screens can only move within a five-foot range from the user.
Name: Telepathy (Level 1)
Rank: D
Type: Supportive
Description: Can be cast on any willing ally within 100 feet. Can be cast on an unwilling target within 100 feet, but it is then treated as an attack - the target will only become aware of the spell being cast upon them if they manage to Block it. This spell links the target's mind to the Main Terminal, allowing their directed thoughts to be routed back to the Terminal, the user, and all those allies currently linked by Telepathy. The user receives data on the target's location and movements, and Area Mapping also now extends to and around each linked target. Up to 4 people may be linked, but each person beyond the 2nd creates an additional magical drain for the duration.
Strengths:
-Can link up to 4 people.
-Can link unwilling/hostile targets.
-Gain information on where the target is, what is around them via Area Mapping.
-Linked targets and user can converse at great range with no issues due to distance.
-Can be cast on a target that is visible to the user/Archive within 100 feet from the user.
Weaknesses:
-Duration of 6 posts.
-Cooldown of 8 posts.
-Unwilling/hostile targets get a Block Roll to resist the Telepathy Link, and become aware of having a failed spell attempt cast on them if their Block is successful.
-Range of Telepathy is equal to twice the current range of Area Mapping based on the user's rank.
-Targets moving beyond the range of Telepathy have their link severed.
-Unconscious/dead targets have their link severed.
-Severed links must be recast once within initial spellcasting range.
Name: Surveillance Drones (Level 1)
Rank: D
Type: Supportive
Description: Archive's main scanner emits a holographic field where it pools minerals and magical essence from the area and user respectively. Within this field, a small number of purely transparent glass orbs are synthesized. These orbs are Surveillance Drones, and can be directed with movement controls on Archive's Terminal. Creates 1-3 Drones. Can only manually control 1 Drone at a time. Very low magical signature, similar to the life force of a rodent. Silent, except when within 5 feet of a Drone, then one can hear a light and unnatural humming.
Strengths:
-The Drones are almost completely invisible due to their construction.
-Drones can be used to scout ahead of the user.
-Drones can be used to extend Area Mapping.
-Drones can be used to spy on locations/specific targets.
-Drones receive Audio and Visual feedback.
-Drones are incredibly difficult to spot/sense.
-The drones can be used to set up an automatic sensory perimeter/alarm system.
-Drones can view 360 degrees, including behind the user.
Weaknesses:
-Duration of 4 posts, at the end of which each Drone breaks down into composite materials as the magic leaves it.
-Cooldown of 8 posts.
-Manual control range is equal to twice that of Area Mapping at the user's current rank.
-Automated/Stationary range is equal to three times that of Area Mapping at user's current rank.
-User cannot control Drones beyond manual control range except to tell them to return to control range.
-Trying to receive Drone visual data directly instead of through that Drone's screen will instead disorient user, preventing action and causing a short headache.
-Frail. A normal attack is all that is required to destroy a Drone once it is discovered.
-Even without discovery, area attacks can destroy a Drone if it is too close.
-Drones cannot interact with the environment in any way.
-Drones cannot attack.
Name: Synthesis (Level 1)
Rank: D
Type: Utility
Description: Much like the process used in creating the Drones for the Surveillance Drones spell, Synthesis utilizes Archive's projection ability to gather minerals from the surrounding area to mold and recreate into objects. However unlike Drones, these objects are not bound together by magic and are as such permanent. Synthesis acts as Archive's 3D-printer device.
Strengths:
-Can gather and reform materials within twenty feet.
-Can reshape and create objects of simple make.
-Very low-power spell at its lowest level.
Weaknesses:
-Overuse is taxing.
-Cannot use materials that are attended. (Ex: Someone's worn armor = No.)
-Cannot gather/use exceptionally hard materials. (Diamond, Titanium, etc.)
-Cannot create exceptionally hard objects.
-Can gather up to one cubic meter of necessary materials per spellcast.
-Must acquire materials somewhat related to object attempting to create.
-Cannot create magical objects.
-Cannot create dangerous liquids.
-Cannot create gaseous vapors.
-Objects created are limited to basic complexity. No objects consisting of multiple moving parts or minute details.
-Cannot create convincing currency.
APPLICATIONS
- Spoiler:
- Name: Messenger
Rank: N/A
Type: Application
Description: An App that modifies the Telepathy spell.
Strengths:
-Modifies Telepathy to be quasi-permanent. Spell will now only end once the user runs out of magic power, dismisses the spell, or deactivates Messenger application.
-Increases range of Telepathy to three times the range of Area Mapping based on current user rank.
Weaknesses:
-Adds a constant, flat-rate drain to magical energy reserves in addition to the magic spent in casting the spell.
-Spell cannot be re-cast while Application is active.

ONE SPELL SLOT = TWO APPLICATIONS

Name: Spybot
Rank: N/A
Type: Application
Description: An App that modifies the Surveillance Drones spell.
Strengths:
-Modifies Telepathy to be quasi-permanent. Spell will now only end once the user runs out of magic power, dismisses the spell, or deactivates Messenger application.
-Increases manual control range of Telepathy to three times the range of Area Mapping based on current user rank.
-Increases Automated/Stationary range of Surveillance Drones to four times the range of Area Mapping based on current user rank.
Weaknesses:
-Adds a constant, flat-rate drain to magical energy reserves in addition to the magic spent in casting the spell.
-Spell cannot be re-cast while Application is active.
Name: Elemental Screens
Rank: N/A
Type: Application
Description: An App that modifies the Rejection and Aggression spells.
Strengths:
-Modifies the screens created by Rejection and Aggression, allowing each spell to take on a single element apiece from a pool of 'collected' elements of the user's choice.
==Reject Screens gain 50% damage reduction to that element for as long as the spell Rejection remains active. The screens no longer read "Force", but instead now flash with the name of the element they are imbued with.
==Aggress Screens gain the element selected for them, losing the "Force" text and swapping it out for the element they now bear. Potentially capable of dealing up to +20% damage to those whose main elemental alignment is weak to the element selected for Aggress Screens.
Weaknesses:
-Adds a constant, flat-rate drain to magical energy reserves in addition to the magic spent in casting the spell.

ONE SPELL SLOT = TWO APPLICATIONS

Name: Drone Projection
Rank: N/A
Type: Application
Description: An App that modifies the Surveillance Drones spell.
Strengths:
-Modifies Surveillance Drones to project 3D images into the environment.
-Images are essentially magical holograms.
Weaknesses:
-Image is limited within 10 feet of the Drone orb.
-Image is insubstantial, cannot interact or be interacted with.
-Hologram can be studied for one full post to deduce it as a fake.
-Hologram may not be larger in size than eight feet tall by four feet wide.
