Another exam was about to get under way. This time, it was Mari's turn to turn C. Like Nightken's exam, it also took place in the grasslands near Leonard's shack. There, he eagerly awaited the Fire Dragon Slayer. While he was waiting, Leonard was sitting on a rock, sharpening one of his blades. The test administered to Nightken will be the same one he will give to Mari. Which is why no one that has taken the exam is allowed to talk about it to the other mages. These tests were so, so that it would teach them valuable lessons as they progress, and to see if their hearts and powers were up to the task a higher rank must fulfil. Leonard stopped sharpening for a while and looked up the sky. He looked at it purposefuly and looked down again whispering to himself, "She's already here, huh?"

Walking through the grassy plains Mari headed toward the spot where Leonard had specifically appointed to meet. Mari didn't know what this exam was going to be or what challenges she was going to face but she was prepare for the worst to come. As she walked further she could see something in the distance, closer she noticed it was Leonard on top of stone, with a blade in hand. "I've come, now whats next?" Mari asked bluntly.

Leonard sat on the rock as Mari approached. He was surprised as to how bluntly Mari spoke. He could really see that she is eager to get this done quickly. Leonard sighed and stood up and then looked at Mari seriously "Well if you're that eager then we'll get straight to it." he said coldly. And as he finished his words, he dashed towards Mari with a greatsword. "Fight me!" he shouted.

Mari was very eager to start her exam, this is the last thing standing in her way from becoming a even stronger wizard. So she was willing to take this very seriously from the start to the finish. "Well if you're that eager then we'll get straight to it." Said Leonard in a low tone, before charging toward her with a large sword in his hands. "Fight me!" He shouted. Mari jumped back and in the air she placed both hands in front of her mouth "Fire Dragon's Roar!" She shouted as a red magic crest appeared and a spewed a straight line of fire before it started to spread wide in front of Leonard.

Leonard dashed blindly towards Mari. And he was impressed by Mari's action to jump back and use a ranged spell. The simplest yet the best thing to do. As he moves closer towards the ball of fire in front of him, he stopped in his tracks and placed the sword in front of himself to block the attack.

Mari dropped to the ground as she watched Leonard stop, placing his sword in front of himself, blocking the fire making it go in two other directions. Mari dashed toward Leonard. "Don't hold back because I'm your friend! I want to show you how serious I can be!" She shouted as she punched both her fists together and a red magic crest appeared and her right first was engulfed in flames. "Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!" As the fire disappeared, could be seen punching forward toward Leonard's sword.

Mari shouted at Leonard commenting that he hasn't been going all out. But Leonard was simply being cautious and defensive, as that how he usually fights. Mari came in with the Iron Fist spell. Leonard knew to never underestimate Iron Fist spells from Dragon Slayers. In the nick of time, Leonard side stepped with a spin to the right and requipped a hammer in the process. As he completed his spin, he struck Mari with the hammer on her side. "This is your test, Mari. And so I really go all out. Now, if you think I'm not. You better think hard as to what I'm doing." Leonard said coldly. Leonard thought that Mari would simply be charging at him for the most part of the exam. So Leonard tried to keep his distance and equipped a greatsword that he held in front of him with two hands titling slightly to the left. Leonard had once again went to a defensive stance. A stance he uses most of the time. But the last time he used it, it didn't go all too well. He hopes that this time, this stance will not fail him again.

Mari missed her attack as Leonard stepped out of the way, having Mari punch the air. The flames died and her fist wasn't covered in flames anymore. "This is your test, Mari. And so I really go all out. Now, if you think I'm not. You better think hard as to what I'm doing." Mari assumed that Leonard didn't think of him holding back as to her just wanting him not to at all. But he is just testing her strength. "All right then, strike when your ready." She said holding up her fists.

Mari taunted Leonard to come at her, it made Leonard raise a brow. He thought that maybe Mari thinks that this was a test of strenght. But, the statement was incomplete, a test of what strength? Leonard knew that Mari would only realize that if he would charge in. However, charging in to an opponent who is ready for everything is dangerous. Leonard simply charged in with his sword in hand. And as soon as he was in Mari's striking distance, Leonard jumped up so high and threw the sword at her. Landing behind a few inches away, he equipped another blade at dashed in to strike her in her torso.

Mari watched as Leonard started to charge toward her, once he got close enough Mari decided to try striking him. But he was to quick and jumped really high above her. She looked up and could hardly see him but a quick flash, and noticed it was one of his swords. Mari didn't have enough time to dodge it and her arm got cut. The wound wasn't so deep but the pain was real. Mari looked around for him and watched as he dashed forward striking her in the chest and making her fly back onto the ground.

Leonard stood there watching Mari. His attack was successful and made Mari jump back a little. Leonard figured this won't be enough to make Mari quit, so Leonard resumed his volley of attacks. Leonard equipped two swords, one on each hand and cast Reshape:Wings. Leonard intended to attack from above, swooping down like an eagle catching prey. One of the swords he was holding was held in reverse. To make a X shape slash that would come from above and below as he swoops down to Mari.

Mari laid there on the floor for another 5 seconds before getting up again. A she got up she could hear Leonard casting a spell "Reshape:Wings." Mari looked up to see that his swords had taken form of wings on his back and he shot up into the air. He came toward her in a swooping motion with two blades in his hands. Mari smiled and decided to head toward him, so she started running and went into a sprint. "Fire Dragon's Sword Horn!" She shouted as pounded her fists together creating a red magic crest and soon engulfing her body in fire, and propelling herself toward Leonard.

"Fire Dragon's Sword Horn", Leonard was unfamiliar of that spell. But he knew well enough to avoid it. In the nick of time, Leonard removed his wings and landed on the ground. Now that Mari was open for any attack, Leonard equipped Paladenium and pointed it to the sky. "Divine Punishment!" he shouted, and at the same time, the light sword shined brightly and the sky thundered. Fortunately, the spell this time happened instantly because Mari was directly above Leonard. The bolt came down from the sky quickly. Leonard knew to take steps back because should the spell miss, he would take the hit.

As Mari propelled herself toward Leonard he quickly recalled his wings and dropped to the ground. As he did that Mari's flames had extinguished and she watched from above what Leonard was doing. Leonard equipped Paladenium and pointed it to the sky. "Divine Punishment!" he shouted, and at the same time, the light sword shined brightly and the sky thundered. Mari couldn't see where the strike came from but it struck her whole body and crashed her into the ground. She crashed hard enough to create a crater within the ground beneath her. Mari tried bring herself up but each time she tried she would fall onto the ground again. "I won't give up....so easily. I will pass your test." She said breathing heavily.

Divine Punishment was an effective strike, and Mari fell to the ground on a crater. But Leonard thought it was too much, a direct hit from it is very deadly. He looked at Mari who desperately tries to stand. Coldly, he requipped a greatsword and held it above her head. "You face death now, Mari. You could barely stand and I have clear shot to your head. You now have the option to back down. But if you won't, why? Why do you fight?" he said coldly.

Mari continued to push herself, until flames started to engulf her hands, arms, legs, and torso, flowing with the wind. She was able to bring herself to her feet, but kept her hands on her knee's helping to keep her up. She lifted her head toward Leonard's to look him in the eye's. "The reason I fight.......the reason I want to get stronger.....is you guy's......I want to protect my new family and I thought that if I can show you how stronger I have become, I could prove it." She said breathing heavily. The flames on her body started to die out, becoming smaller as she had more trouble standing up.

Leonard listened to Mari's answer, it was admirable but not enough. He made a small cut to Mari's knee to make her fall again. After that, he pointed the sword to Mari's neck. "How far are you willing to go for that?" he said.

As Mari finished speaking, Leonard got closer and sliced her knee a tiny bit but the pain was still strong since Mari was already hurt, making her fall again. "Ugh..." She shouted as she fell. "How far are you willing to go for that?" Leonard asked putting his blade toward Mari's neck. "I'll get stronger then everyone.....even you....Leonard...I won't let anyone get hurt anymore....Never!" She shouted, and slowly but surely got onto her feet, with her fists clenched around his blade and blood started to drip to the sides. "I...will surpass the strongest....to protect the ones I care for." She said without letting go.

Leonard held the blade tightly as he listened to Mari's answer. And Mari's answer became music to Leonard's ears that it made him smile. He then unequipped the blade he was holding that made it go back to his pocket space. Then, with a nod, Leonard replied in happiness "Such resolve and strength of heart have I seen from you today Mari. And for that, you passed the exam. Growing in power is important but growing in value is even more important. And to see that you have such values, I know you will grow in power in the future." he said with a tone of pure gladness that finished with a smile.
