    Calico played with the bundle of fur on his lip while sitting back against the red leather seat of the whirling train. His cat, Caja, stretched out and yawned before resuming his crescendo of purrs. Besides that, a few conversations taking place in nearby seats as well as the moving of the train on its set tracks were all that could be heard. It was all very peaceful and serene for Calico. He even fell asleep himself when he turned his lazy head to the side and saw the slow moving background of the distant green hills and luscious forests as the rays of the midday sun kissed him. It was like looking at an artisan's painting or seeing through the eyes of woodland sage.

    The man's cat dreamed in its sleep but he did not. His conscious just feel into a hazy black before awaking at the sound of the trains distinguished horn. Calico's eye fluttered open and blinked several times midst the rays of the sun shining through the window next to him. He wiped the dabble of drool from the corner of his mouth and found the iron machine's inhabitants leaving off the train. Something about the sudden motion coming from inside of the train made him nauseous.

    "Time to go, Caja." Calico lifted his cat up form his lap and placed the fur ball into his jacket where the little guy usually rested. He tiredly got up from his seat and followed behind the last straggler getting off the train. On the way out, he saw a harmless sign reading Oshibana Railways. It was not hard to remember why he was even there when he noticed the sign. The owner of Oshibana Railways, and apparently the mayor of the town, had an extortion problem with a bunch of thugs from a dark wizard's guild.

    Calico reached into his jacket's pocket and pull out a folded-up piece of paper to read it to himself right there in the train station. He quietly whispered to himself, "The Masked Guild..." He had never heard of that name in his life, but they were surely the worst kinds of people to be apart of a dark guild. The kind of people that wielded mystical powers while disregarding any and all laws except for their own were a type dreaded by the legal guilds, the magic council, and society as a whole. The man had the uneasy feeling that if he wasn't careful in dealing with these people, he might be dead sooner rather than later.

    A tower clock above the train station bonged to signal the turn of the hour. "Looks like we got five hours left, Caja." The small cat poked its head out of the head of Calico's jacket and meowed in return. The man smiled down on his furry friend and patted its head. "It's fine. We'll just look for hotel early." The slip of paper detailing the job said the mayor's thugs usually payed him a visit at ten in the evening, so Calico figured it best to meet the man at about nine. After the job, Calico planned to stay a night at a hotel of some kind instead of taking the night train back home.

    While Calico walked around the town in search of a place to stay, he noticed the inhabitants were pretty well off. The man had heard from stories that Oshibana used to be a nowhere town where those that grew up there aspired to leave as soon as they were old enough. The railways changed all of that though. It brought businesses and industry, cultural connections, and better sources of infrastructure.

    Calico wasn't clever enough to piece it together, but it seemed like the town had a lot of people with various-colored masks on their faces. "Must be a local fad. I'll never understand these fashion waves."

    The first hotel Calico spotted was the incredibly large Oshibana Towers (Calico wound come to find out that all the big businesses were named after the town itself). The entire structure was just beautiful. It had winding green hedges, brick stone walks, and large fountain with a statue of an angel with a sword atop of it. As he passed by the statue, he noticed one of those strange white cloths forming a mask on its head. "Even the angels are weak to fashion fads," he laughed, bearing no mind to the significance of the white cloth.

    A tiny bell rang when he went through the double glass doors. The man working the front desk immediately waved him over with a smile on his face, but it quickly dropped down as Calico approached. The man eyed the large Fairy Tail tattoo on the side of Calico's forehead (a small bit of it just barely revealed itself from behind the hair bangs). "Uh, yes sir? Can I help you?"

    "I'd like a room for the night, if you got anything left."

    "Of... of course." The young man reached down for a little key and dropped it into Calico's hand.

    "And how much might I owe you?"

    "N-no pay! Fairy Tail people such as yourself are serviced free of charge," he laughed nervously.

    Calico swelled up with pride. This was the first time he got to reap the benefits of being in Fairy Tail. It felt like pure euphoria.

    After Calico walked up the stairs in search of his room, the young man wiped a bead of sweat rolling down his forehead and shambled into the lobby's backroom. A stream of smoke escaped through the crack between the door and the wall as soon as they opened. The young man coughed of course and waved the smoke out his way to get through. A bunch of men in various clothing, but all wearing gold cloths on their faces, were sitting around a wooden table and gambling with a rainbow of poker chips and playing cards. When the noticed the trembling young man wandering into their room, one of them barked, "What do you want? We're busy!"

    The man whimpered, "So sorry, sir! A man from Fairy Tail just checked in!"

    They paused and gave each other a distinguished look through the slits in their masks. "Just one man huh? Okay, let's get to work fellas." They dropped their cards, put their poker chips into piles, and put out their cigarettes before sliding their seats back to get up and leave. "Don't touch our cards, ya' hear? We'll be taking a hand off if we find anything out of place." The young man (who resembled more of a boy now) winced and nodded.

    Calico ended up finding his room on the far north end of the sixth floor. As soon as he was inside, he let his cat out of his jacket and locked his door. "Don't make too much noise, Caja. I'm not sure if pets are allowed." Calico immediately set out to explore all his room had to offers, which was king-sized bed, some food in a little box, a bathroom, and... "Is that a balcony!?" Calico swung the curtains of his window aside to confirm his sight and it was indeed a balcony. He ran up to the edge and awed at everything he could see from his vantage point. The front lawn of the hotel looked even more amazing from above. "Caja! You won't believe it! They even have a pool down there!"

    The group of masked men weren't far behind from Calico. They found his door and unlocked it as quietly as they could with their very own master key. It clicked open, a little more loudly than they had hoped, but they entered in without the notice of the room's man and cat. When they saw Calico looking over the edge of the balcony, it seemed like a dream come true. The bravest of the four sneaked up and shoved Calico over the balcony with all his might.

    As Calico was flung over the edge and fell way, way down, the man ordered the rest of his group, "Let's go collect the body."

    The gold-masked men descended down the stairs to go collect Calico's remains. They gave the young man at the front desk another grim stare and went out to the north side of the building.

    "W-what!?" As they turned the corner, they found Calico dragging himself out of the pool and spitting a small bit of water out of his mouth.

    "Man, that could have been way worse..." The four masked men approached the Fairy Tail mage and gave a vicious look that even Calico could decipher as meaning "kill." "I don't suppose you guys had anything to do with that?" he laughed.

    "You talk too much for a corpse." One of the masked men held their hand out and waved his palm. This caused the stones making up the ground Calico to gather together in a rapid movement and form a tight cocoon of rocks around him. When the masked man clenched his hand, the stone cocoon tightened and attempted to squeeze the life out of him. The earth mage pulling the strings behind the attacks looked just amused.

    Boom! A loud explosion erupted from the inside of the stone cocoon and sent rocks flying in every direction while puffing up dust in the area. "I think I get it. The masks I mean." Calico stepped through the dust, clad in a thick plate armor with a lance at his side.

    Calico smiled and nodded as if nothing else needed to be said. He held up his lance with his right hand and pointed it right at the group of masked-men. A glowing red ball pulsating with energy formed at the very tip of the lance and seemed to push away any of the surrounding dust particles floating away. Calico didn't even need to jerk at the lance to launch the glowing the ball at the center of the four-man cell. The masked men saw nothing other than the red streak it left behind before being caught up in a swirling explosion.

    One of the men forced crawled themselves out of the resulting smoke, with his cloak singed from the blast. He face behind the mask grew grim when he saw a shadow hanging over him. "Rule three of Fairy Law states I must never kill an opponent," he smiled with some mystical benevolence, "But maiming is A-okay if I understand it right." The man's face grew pale white as Calico raised his lance up and slammed it down on one of the man's shins. A great scream erupted from the injured man as he grappled his own shin to in an attempt to remedy the pain.

    "Now, where are the other three?"

    While the dust was still settling, one of the masked men (this one with half his masked singed off from the blast) jumped up onto his legs and formed a stone ball in front of himself. With just the flick of his wrist, the stone ball went hurdling toward the unsuspecting Calico. The stone went right into his chest and, even though the plate armor took a large portion of the impact, he spat up from the resulting hit. Calico heaved a large breath and wiped away the spit from his mouth. "You just... gave away... your position."

    Calico held his lance back with his right and walked forward several steps as if he were winding up. When he felt satisfied with his aim, he tossed the lance with a spin and it went flying through the dust. The man attempted a narrow jump out of the way but failed, and the lance pierced through his right arm. The man screamed and screamed much like the first, but Calico continued his attack with a snap of his fingers. Boom! The very lance itself generated a small explosion that tore the man's arm off.

    The man fell down, not dead but unconscious.

    I need to beat the rest of them and get a medic before he bleeds out...

    The dirt and dust in the area finally settled. The last two masked-men were the least burnt and they stuck together in an almost defensive form. In the worst possible moment, Calico's armor glowed and disappeared from sight in the blink of an eye. "Requip..." The masked man who spoke held up his hand with the palm facing out and caused several stony spikes to appear floating in front of him. The jagged ends faced Calico and they went flying as soon as the masked man swung his hand horizontally.

    The air around Calico rippled and his body glowed a right gold light. Just as the stone spikes were about to meet him, An explosion occurred below him and he went flying above the spikes. When his body ceased to glow, Calico's body was covered in chainmail and he carried a large cleaver with him. Meanwhile, explosions were occurring under his own feet and propelling him through the air toward the last two masked men. Calico's face displayed a wide smile in enjoyment of the pseudo flight. "My turn next!" In his horizontal flight, Calico ceased the explosions and went flying at the front man. He held his foot up and it went right into the masked man's chest. As soon as his heel made contact, one more explosion erupted from Calico's foot and sent the man several feet back.

    Calico did not have the luxury of relishing in his successful attack. After the man went flying back, the last remaining masked man (just feet away from Calico) summoned a rock spike on the palm of his hand and jammed toward Calico in an attempt to pierce his skull. Calico had been caught off guard by the trick and could only react fast enough to raise his left arm to take the attacks. While the chainmail managed to take much of the force, the stone spike managed to pierce through it, digging slightly into Calico's arm.

    Calico clenched his teeth to prevent himself form showing pain, as if it the mere look of weakness was a taboo. He even smiled at the masked man in defiance before using his other arm (the one holding the cleaver) to slash across the man's chest. The sudden burning pain in his chest caused the masked man to fall back on his butt. He held his hands against his own cut, blood running all over them while he cringed in pain. It felt as if a hot blade had just gone through him. In fact, the cloak on his chest that had just been cut had a singe mark right where he was bleeding.

    Calico hovered over the man and grabbed him by the collar of his cloak. He held the cleaver just centimeters away from the chin of his mask. "P-please... I-I'll tell whatever you want!"

    Calico had stern look on his face originally, but it turned into a dissatisfied one gradually. "I don't want information from a coward who would sell out his guild in a heartbeat." Calico pulled on the man's collar a little harder before driving his knee into the man's stomach. The masked man emitted a gagging noise and went wide-eyed before losing consciousness. Calico released him and left him on the brick pavement.

    When he looked around, Calico saw the man he had kicked had run off, leaving behind a blood trail. The man whose leg he had stabbed was still in the process of crawling off. The one he was more worried about was the man missing his arm. Calico walked over to the man and bent over to inspect him. He was falling in and out of consciousness. "I'm going to give you something to help you survive a little longer, but later I want it returned to the Fairy Tail guild hall in Magnolia Town, ya hear?" The armor around Calico disappeared just as the previous armor set had, leaving him in his original clothing. He ripped off a long strip of cloth from his own jacket and began tying it around the man's wound.

    "And if I don't get it back... well, an arm-less man isn't too hard to find," he chuckled as if he were talking to an old friend.

    Calico brought the arm-less man into the hotel and found some medical experts to take care of him. Afterwards, he went back to his room to have some actual leisure time. On his way up, Calico noticed the same young man working the front desk looked much happier. I wonder what made him so cheery. The next few hours passed without incident. Calico rested up, bandaged up the minor wounds he had sustained, and even got into an argument with his cat about not being warned he was going to be pushed off a balcony.

    When it was nearly nine in the evening, Calico set off with Caja to head to the mayor's residence which was incidentally an impressive. It was a large, white building surrounded by long green hills and a goth-style metal fence that surrounded the entire perimeter. The only way in appeared to be a large metal gate at the front which, strangely enough, was wide open. "Must be open to let me ,or those masked guys, in." Calico and his cat walked up the concrete walkway that led up to the large front door. Only a few lights could be seen form the window, so some one was definitely home.

    Calico gave the door a good knock.

    A tubby man whisked Calico inside and brought him into the living room. It wasn't just a living room though. It had scores of beautiful paintings and magnificent furniture. The mayor was a very wealthy man apparently. "You're the, uh, mage right? The one form Fairy Tail?"

    Calico took a seat in one the red velvet chairs and leaned back with, "Sure am. Name's Calico. Now tell me about your problem."

    The mayor began to speak with a look of fluster, "These miscreants, no... these hooligans! They keep extorting me for money. They say it's for 'protection' but they're only one's I need protection from." He started to get beet red in the face.

    "And you want me to teach them a lesson?" Calico tried to move the conversation along fast enough that before the mayor had a heart attack.

    "Yes, yes... I don't care how you go about it. Just make sure they know not to mess with me anymore." The mayor pulled out a white handkerchief and started wiping the sweat from his face.

    "No problem. I'm going to need you to leave this place for the night though."

    "What on are earth for?"

    "Because I got a plan that involves your house."

    When the clock in the house struck ten, five masked men showed up at the front gate. They didn't bother to close the gate or doing in inspections. It was as if they owned the place and had just been on a stroll out. When they walked along the concrete path, they inevitable made it to the front of the house where none other than Calico was waiting for him. He was sitting on a rocking chair on the front porch, drinking out of a mug of unknown liquid. A small lantern hung from the porch's ceiling and highlighted Calico's blond hair.

    "Evening, fellas. Nice night for a walk."

    "We're here for the mayor."

    "The mayor doesn't like to speak with worms." He laughed and sipped from his mug some more before placing the mug on a wooden outdoor table and hopping up form his rocking chair. He waved to them with his fingers and headed back inside through the front door. When the door closed, the five masked men all gave each other a look, unsure of what to make of the situation. "Did he just call us worms?"

    They all stood around each other and blinked in amazement. "Let's gut him and take our money."

    OOC: Ignore that last dice roll. I'm having internet problems.

    One of the five men stepped forward and turned the knob... boom! An explosion erupted from the inside, sent the door flying with the man in front of it, and Calico stood at the entry way with an assured calmness on his face. His body was covered in the plate armor from earlier and he held the same lance as well. When the man under the door pulled himself out, he ordered all the other masked men, "Make... make him suffer!" Calico waved them goodbye at that and ran into the house and down a set of hallways. They rushed toward him inside and were nearly hit by another explosion when they turned the corner.

    "Come on, come on! Keep up!" Calico teased them with a game face and continued the chase through more hallways. The thumping of their feet against the wooden floorboards could have been heard all over the house. Calico eventually took a sharp right and ran right into a bedroom where four of the five mine cornered him. One of the men pulled out a switchblade and another produced a bat from his cloak. The other two stood in the back, ready to strike with all sorts of spells.

    Calico's playful face turned into one of seriousness... and then again into one of playfulness when jumped toward the wall. His body began to glow for short moment before an explosion erupted outward and took out the wall. Wooden boards and a cloud of dust stunned all four of the men and allowed Calico some time to increase the ground between them. The men's masks protected them from inhaling any of the dust and gave them enough reaction time to spot their target's silhouette. They followed suit and entered into another labyrinth of hallways.

    "Just one more should do it." After making another sharp turn, Calico slid across the slick wood and winded back his lance. In a brief moment, he flung the lance right at the corner, with the masked men just narrowly dodging it. They didn't wait to back in their safety but instead kept running straight at Calico.

    With just the snap of his fingers, the lance exploded and took the surrounding wall with it. Then, the entire bulding began to shake like an earthquake were occurring. The men all looked around themselves in search of an explanation. All the while, Calico was still running until he jumped through a window and landed outside.

    The house, missing so many of its supporting structure from the explosions, came toppling down on itself.

    Several loud yelps could be heard coming from the rubble. The men were apparently still conscious but trapped. Calico was satisfied with the timely results and grinned when his armor disappeared from his body.

    "Hope the mayor doesn't mind the loss of his house."

    "I hope you don't mind the loss of your life."

    Calico felt huge stone slam into his back. The impact knocked him forward several steps but he quickly regained his footing and turned to see it's originator, the last remaining masked man. "Oh! You're the one I hit with a door, aren't ya?" The man swell up with anger in return and summoned a sharp, stone disc. While the masked man charged his disc, Calico performed his own spell and summon a chainmail set of armor and its matching cleaver in preparation of the attacks.

    "When I'm done turning you into mince meat, I'm going to-!"

    An extremely large lightning bolt came hurdling from the sky and fried the man like a turkey. A little smoke rose up from the man, and he fell over with the stone disc. The disc shattered as soon as it hit the ground and the man grumbled his last breath...

    "I give them one job and that job is to take money from a fat man."

    Calico looked off in the distance with a shocked (no pun intended) look and saw a man garbed completely in white from afar. Even his mask, his cloak, all were white. He even walked different than the others. There was a sense of authority about him.

    "You killed him..."

    "I had to. He wasn't cutout for the guild." Calico held up his cleaver with both hands and got into a defensive position. There was a look of disgust over his face. "Kuku, that tin can's not going to help you." The man held up his finger and formed a lightning bolt above himself. He finger twitched and the glowing spear of energy shot right for Calico. Calico attempted to move out of the way but the electricity was way too attracted to all the metal on him for there to be any chance of dodging. The second it struck him, Calico felt his entire skin burning and it felt like a large pin needle was shooting straight though him. His muscles even spammed from head to toe for moment. The Fairy Tail mage fell to his knees.

    "Who are you?" he gasped. The masked man walked up to Calico and hovered over him.

    "You're obviously not from around here if you don't know of Cassius Discard." Cassius had an almost teasing tone to his voice. Calico only responded by clenching the ground below him and bowing his head. "So tell me, where is the mayor?" Calico turned his head up and showed his defeated look before the armor on his body disappeared into thin air like before.

    Calico raised his head up and took a long suspenseful pause. He then clenched the ground a little harder before raising his hand up and throwing grounded up sand into the eye slit of Cassius' mask. Cassius reeled back from the surprise attack and Calico followed up with jump and tackle, bringing the masked fiend down to the ground. "This is reeeaaallly stupid of you!" Cassius' body start to glow bright blue before both their bodies were being shocked with lightning. It only made the Fairy Tail mage more determined to hold him down. "Come on, little fairy, just nudge off a little." The continuous shock just went on uninterrupted for three minutes before Cassius became a little more agitated...

    "Hurting you has sorta lost its pizzazz..." Cassius blinked and seeming turned into a bolt of lightning himself, allowing him to escape Calico's heavy body. The lightning bolt zapped over several meters away and reformed Cassius' body but with the mask undone.

    "You're obviously not bright guy. I think I'll just fry you and come back another day... maybe the guild master won't behead me if I go back empty-handed." With a lazy expression, Cassius held up his finger and shot a tiny bolt of lightning once more. Calico seemed suprisingly happy of this with his wide grin. He pulled the metal bracer off his hand threw it right at his opponent as if it were a soft ball. The lightning bolt turned and followed the flying conductor...

    Pst! The metal bracer hit Cassius. The lightning bolt hit the metal bracer. Cassius hit the ground.

    After the battle, Calico freed the men from under the rubble of the mayor's residence and allowed them to carry the corpse of their fallen comrade as well as Cassius' unconscious body back to wherever their guild hall was located. When Calico went to collect payment from the mayor, he wasn't too thrilled to hear about the fate of his large estate, but he was rich too so he didn't up that much of a fuss either. At least the Masked Guild would think more carefully next time.
