rather than be dragged along as a memory

    Alexander

Harsh, ragged breaths, followed by weakened, shaky steps. Time truly was an unfair mistress. This place was no more harsh than his old home. Compared to one another, this was like a child batting on the foot of it's parent. The heat, a sweltering inferno he flourished under in his prime, was but a lit candle here. Yet his body was soaked with sweat and dyed in burns. The open plains were like a polished floor compared to the endless dunes of his home. Yet each step felt as if he had scaled an entire mountain. Were it not for the foul forces keeping him on this side, he'd probably be food for the creature he had come here to capture. The bundled figure faltered, having to stop a moment and gather his strength. The village was in site, as it had been for miles now. The horizon was flat, so spotting any large structures like that was easy. Making it to them proved to be the challenge for Alexander.

Had it not be the request of a more... grandiose individual, he never would have even considered such an excursion. Now he was following orders left on a letter for him, to travel out past the safety of the guild grounds to this secluded village. For reasons beyond his sensible understanding. Still he came. His knee buckled, another short rest was in order. Gil had maintained a power position in the guild as of late. Because of this, Alexander had to prioritize their relationship now. He needed to become a confidant, someone Gil would rely on. The best place to be was on the leaders right, after all.

He continued on, the village gates growing with each step. He wondered where Gil was, most likely already inside and waiting. Alexander had no idea how long it had taken the Master to get there, yet it had taken Alexander some time. This was also assuming Alexander found the letter soon after Gil left it. More likely than not, the golden child would be upset. Preparing for the inevitable, he plastered on his smile, ready to meet Gil with pitiful apologies and humble service. Gil was far from his first Master, and Alexander was a practiced slave. Handling this should be childs play.

I AM NOT A BAD KING

even though i do bad things

    VERY BAD THINGS

    such horrible things

Gil Vessalius, the unpleasable, was almost content, almost. For a short period of time the blonde male had been in shock after coming into his new position under such odd circumstances. He had yet to consult his fellow guild members about what had happened to their previous guild master, it was touchy subject even for the blonde male. He was the only one on the Tartarus grounds when it had appeared and stolen the previous guild master away, giving the old time wizard barely enough time to tell Gil of a certain document beneath the throne. A document that held the signatures of his predecessors, a simple parchment that if signed would give the Kingdom, and the guild that stood upon it to him. Upon that paper was a new name, one that was significantly larger and bolder than those before it, written in an elegant scrawl was, Gil Vessalius, the newest King of a near empty Kingdom in the middle of Phat Monsterland. With the kingdom and guild now under his control it gave him a sense of satisfaction, an odd sense though considering he went from guild member to master in such a short amount of time. He had always held himself in a Kingly manner, and expected others to treat him as such but now the title of King and master was truly his. It would take some time and effort though before he could truly ascertain his members respect and loyalty.

    ~*~

In his quest to gain the respect he desired, or rather deserved Gil had taken to cornering members, more specifically the older one's, the few that were present for the short reign of Lyserg. However, that in itself was a rather weighty task, a few having disappeared without a trace, leaving Tartarus with only a few members to its name. In truth the only members Gil had concern over was Roya and Nai, those two would prove to be hard to conquer. Which is why Gil Vessalius started off with an older member whom he deemed as simple to control, Alexander. The frail, sickly man seemed more servant than he did mage. Still, Gil needed to make sure he had won over the man, and it would be best to have a base to build off of before he attempted to... win over the others. In standard Gil fashion, he had sent an all too regal letter to the male bidding him to join Gil at a certain village for a job that would at the least suit Gil.

However, Gil underestimated just how long it would take for him frailest member to not only find the letter, but to travel to their meeting spot. It took Alexander long enough to put Gil's patience to the test, his almost content mood threatening to spill over into a state that few saw, or lived to tell of. He leaned against the gate to the village of hunters, eyes closed in contemplation. He looked nothing short of a god in the sun, his head of longer messy tresses shined like gold, making his armor of actual gold almost pale in comparison. The armor in itself differed from his usual, the broad chest piece was gone, the midday sun would have had him sweating in it. Instead the male wore golden plates upon his shoulders and beneath was a golden shawl of sorts, his chest was otherwise bare though his abdomen was covered with golden plating as well. In short the male screamed handsome, regal, and stood out like a sore thumb in an otherwise bleak dead landscape.

A blinding beacon waited for him at the gates. At first a tiny sparkle, growing into a gleam, expanding into a radiance. Ever the symbol of humility, Gil made his presence known to all. This was all from his shoulders alone; had he the rest of the assemble, several villagers would probably be blinded. The rest of his outfit was an unexpected display of reason however. The light shawl was a moral opposite to Alexander's thick, heavy robes, but each served a different reason. To pale man, the threat was not the heat or sweat, but fear of damage to his porcelain skin. His posture shifted, arms moving closure to his chest and bowing slightly. He had to look small, like an ant before a lion. If the scene was not set, he'd never achieve the ending.

Finally at a proper distance, Alexander broke down into a bow. To most, it would appear a display of pure servitude, and that was the intended goal. Alexander's true reason for it however, was to rest off some of the exhaustion. His eyes locked onto Gil's feet, head down. This was the proper place for a slave to look. "A thousand pardons, my tardiness was not intentional I assure." He paused, letting the tone sink in as he fought for breath. "I left as soon as I was aware of the notice, but as the humble servant I am, I lacked the ways to transport myself such as you." He dared look up now, having put on his makeup for the show. A face of pure regret, begging eyes and a concerned frown. "I'm praying there was no trouble for you on my account?" He had said these lines a thousand times, a script burned into his mind. Yet never in this tongue.

He would not rise, sweating under the burning heat of two suns. He would rise when given permission. There had been entire days he'd went without that before, yet he doubted that would be in Gil's agenda after all. The congregation behind him showed something was to happen. Three older gentleman, one clearly more adorned than the others. He assumed them to be the leaders, most likely those who had called them here. He would not speak to them, that was Gil's role. Alexander was simply here to serve him.

For a moment Gil stood there in a quiet sort of peacefulness, shutting his eyes in contemplation. There was nothing but the occasional pleasant swish of the grasses, as the wind danced through the plains. The sound, such a familiar one at that, would have lulled him to sleep with thoughts of the golden grasses and the earth beneath his feet. Before that could happen a different, less pleasant sound had broken through the tranquility. Boots scuffling across the dirt could be heard, and to accompany it was harsh ragged breaths of extreme effort. Cracking one eye open Gil cast his crimson gaze on the approaching figure. As expected it was Alexander, late, and out of breath as usual. With such a thick cloak on it was no wonder that he seemed ready to collapse, out of heat exhaustion and poor health.

He let Alexander collapse into a bow, which brought nothing but pleasure to Gil though his expression showed otherwise. Words of apology in such a tone was more musical to Gil than the previous rustling of the grasses. It had been a long time since someone had spoken to him, and treating him with such expertise. His behaviors and demeanor only proved to Gil that Alexander was in fact a perfect servant. Still, as Alexander had a part to play so did Gil, "Is that so?" He turned his head so the entirety of his crimson stare could bear down on him, searching for even the slightest hint of a lie. Apparently, he could find none and as such he stood to his full height, the gate no longer having to support his weight.

"Rise. We have things to do attend to."

Those things evidently happened to be the congregation behind them. A writhing mass of curious onlookers, only a few of which held any actual importance to the male, greeted them. The three of mild importance were elder men, age did little to hide their experience, despite graying and white hair there was various scars that littered their bodies. Scars that clearly came from local wildlife, and scars that were awarded with the various ornaments that adorned them. The middle one of the trio, held the most of these ornaments, and bore the largest amount of scars. "Lions." Gil knew the gashes of a lions claw better than most, and to some extent he could respect the leader for his experience. Which showed in his diplomatic greeting to the man. His arrogance slipped aside, and in its place was a simple sort of confidence. The two clasped hands in greeting, exchanging a few words in greeting before the older man started a hushed conversation with Gil. Evidently, Gil was far more capable of diplomacy and manners than most believed him to be. Enough so that the tribe leader bid them to join them for lunch before partaking on their job. "Come." Gil waved a hand to Alexander, commanding him to accompany him, "It's customary in this tribe to feast before a hunt." He generously explained, "You'll be hearing more about what it is we're hunting." A smirk made its home on his lips, showing his usual self for just a moment, before his diplomatic facade took over again.
