Ania Eldred was originally named Rachel Thane. Second daughter of Cozack and Mary Thane. Her father was the banished son of the duke, Arthur Arrondight who owned several large estates all over Fiore. Her mother on the other hand, was the daughter of a mage merchant. Their marriage led to the banishment of Cozack from the Arrondight family. He later used his mother’s maiden surname “Thane” and led a simple life as an entertainer magician.
Of the three Thane siblings, Rachel was the only one who has been found to have the gift of magic. With a heart to help her family’s business of magic entertainment, Rachel trained to be an illusionist. Her illusion magic was a blessing to her family, their shows became a big hit wherever they went and their names were known to every child in Fiore.
But not every story ends in a happy ending, and certainly not this one, since this is just the beginning.
The family of Sr. Arthur’s banished son became the topic of every citizen on Fiore. To the children, they were heroes. To the common people, they were a joy. To the nobles, they were a joke. The Thane’s were attacked by the dark mages because of the Arrondights failure of answering the demands. The sun was still high up when the assault happened and though everything was still lighted up, no one was prepared for what was to come. Dark hooded people barged into the Thane’s small house. Ronald Thane, the eldest son, despite having no magic, stood with his father to fend of the assaulters. Mary Thane was in charge of taking the other two children, Rachel and Rika to safety. There was no where to escape to, since the bandits had already surrounded the place, so she hid them inside a closet where she instructed Rachel to use her magic until the bad guys have left. 30 minutes had passed and Rachel had exhausted her magic. She went out of the closet to inspect, reminding her little sister to stay hidden. Suspiciously, the room that they were in was made bare. There was nothing inside it but the closet they used to hide. In the adjacent room, Rachel saw blood splattered everywhere, mages moving out chairs, tables and bodies. Since Rachel was only peeking from the bare room, it was only natural for her to attempt to shout and run to the scene, but this was made impossible because of the barrier that was put up between the rooms. Ethan Moriairie, one of the men of Arthur Arrondight, disguised himself as one of the dark mages, casting the spell on the room. However, his intent was not to shield the Thane children but to protect the Arrondight’s secret. While vulnerable from her emotional shock, Ethan erased Rachel’s memories. He also planned to remove Rika Thane’s memory, but found her gone from her hiding place. After he was done, Ethan left Rachel in the hands of the mages, suggesting that they give her to con-artists they are indebted to, seeing as she can’t say anything useful.
The mages agreed, knowing that Rachel has a magic of illusions and would be a good trade.
The con-artists were not mages, they didn’t know how magic works and thought Rachel was able to fake money just by a command. They shipped her to the base of their operations, the ruins of the Eldred castle situated in an island far away from any city, home to nobles long ago. There, they imprisoned her, beat her and didn’t fed her for weeks till she was able to produce the fake money for them. She jumped from a high tower, down to the sea, where her fate was uncertain.
