NOEL ASTRA
child of the stars.
Gender: Male.
Age: 20.
Birthday: December 30th.
Sexuality: Homosexual.
Special Characteristics: Bears a small crescent moon marking on their wrist.
Personality: Noel Astra is a young, passionate individual with ‘duality’ as a middle name. For a case study of nature clashing with nurture, look no further.
Eloquent, charismatic, and with sorcerous talent: meet the poster child of the Astra household. When the star-lit sky places its spotlights on him, a bright smile lays dormant on his face as he bows humbly, his soft tone and well-chosen words leaving a pleasant and comforting aftertaste. With conviction in his eyes, he assures people of his undying loyalty to his family, all the while providing glimpses of his ambitious plans and never-exhausting dedication. Like a neatly crafted sculpture, he is perfect. Just don’t look too close.
When the starlight wavers and darkness alleviates the peering eyes on his soul, a different side of the moon unveils. Maturity makes way for a naive youthfulness, allowing the cocky brat he really is to come out of hiding. His ‘true nature’ manifests in many qualities: confidence bordering boisterous pride, down-to-earth attitudes that reek of recklessness and thrill-seeking, and a silver tongue used to brew up enough witty sarcasm to provide the whole world with cynicism.
Even in the wake of total freedom, the young sorcerer has grown so used to ‘dressing for the occasion’ that it has become natural for him to shift his masks regularly. Truth be told, the stark contrast between his inner motivations and the outer demands have left him stunted, unsure what qualities are really his. Most days, he is left in a limbo of both extremes, posh politeness shaking hands with the rawer traits lingering under the water.
From a less mystical perspective, Noel is just another star in the busy sky that was made to mature too quickly. Instead of truly encompassing the role like some, he learned to fake it, creating a divide in who he’s meant to be and who he really is. Behind the well-practiced messages of elegance he utters thus hides a youthful mind, one that is eager to finally form an identity of his own.
Between the many question marks that his dual nature leaves, there are some certainties, however. For one, Noel is gregarious at heart and those he grows to love are greeted with a surprisingly protective, nurturing character. Those that can survive his occasionally childish antics will gain a loyal friend that doesn’t shy away from coming to their aid.
Likes:
- Travelling: Exploration and travelling were two privileges that Noel, unfortunately, didn’t possess. Now that he has more freedom, he would love to see the many sides of Earthland with his own eyes.
- Imperfection: Noel revels in the perfect imperfections and authenticities that Earthland has to offer. There is nothing more boring than uniformity and picture-perfect scenes.
- Independence: Getting told what to do grew old very easily, and Noel is just about ready to start making his own path. Any sense of mending his identity fuels him with humble sparks of joy.
Dislikes:
- Cities: Noel would choose a quiet grass plain over a bustling city in a heartbeat. Nature, in its wildest forms, shares a form of serenity that no rural region can fathom.
- Children: Something about these feeble-minded beasts that heavily unsettles Noel. Kindly keep your kids away, thank you.
- Rigidity: The traditionalist “It’s always been that way” mentality makes him nauseous. Change is part of life, and those who oppose it can expect to be glared down.
Motivations:
- Karma: As a true believer of fate and destiny, Noel goes through life with the expectation that good acts will warrant good rewards. Said elusive reinforcements make for quite the potent motivation.
- Purpose: A simple, common wish rests in the back of his head: to find a goal in life. Noel has never been good at living life without care or direction, which grows increasingly more apparent when he’s given free time.
- Growth: Noel was among the many starry-eyed kids that once dreamed of unrivalled power and popularity, and one of the few that managed to at least somewhat hold onto that ideal. While not dreaming as big as he used to, Noel still finds the thought of perfecting his magic (and being appreciated for it) exhilarating.
Fears:
- Familial matters: Given the abrupt means through which Noel distanced himself from his family, he isn’t too keen on crossing paths with some of his family members.
- Death: Every life eventually has to come to an end. It’s a given, but that doesn’t make it any less scary. Simply put, Noel isn’t ready to see the lights dim forever yet, nor would he like to say a premature goodbye to the people he cares for.
- Attachment: He can’t quite explain why, but close, intimate relationships with others scare him to death. Perhaps he’s grown so used to taking care of his own matters that even the thought of sharing his issues and deeper feelings with others makes him skittish.
