Boats... SUCK! What could have been a normal Rose was filled with a lot of nausea and sleeping. Between the nap she had taken from the pumpkin fiasco down to the boat ride itself, she would have wished she could have slept through the whole thing, but being that she was also the one who had come to give the directions of the destination, she had to be awake for it for at least a little while. It was all the curses fault this had to be this way too! If it weren’t for that, the mouthguard she wore wouldn’t have to be around her and that with the boat ride itself only seemed to exacerbate the whole issue of seasickness. Or at least that is what the brunette believed was the issue.

Her only thankful part was that Kalama was able to keep her from going over the edge and throwing up a number of times. Be it she forced her to take the guard out for a while to relax and put it in when their curse started to act up... or in some cases when she had become too grabby or mouthy for her own good it was albeit forced back in. The one thing she didn’t admit or even mention the entire trip was that the seasickness was not the only reason that she felt this way. She was nervous. As high strung as Aoi was for the idea to join a guild, there was the idea that their not only disbarment from the guild, they could be slain on sight crept up on her. Damn that lunar mage.... she’s just lucky she looked really cute, or she woulda been shanked a long time ago.

When they arrived, the first thing Aoi had done was leap off the boat and hug a rock. Tears of joy streaming down her face as she wished she could have kissed the very earth that she now was standing on again. But a hug was enough for her. And after a moment, she was prepared and stood up, brushing her clothes off of the dirt and pointing towards the door with an aura of perseverance! Rushing forward, she pushed open one of the two doors of the hall and as she did, the other one had not budged and with the moment of one opening and the other acting like a wall, she fell in through the one side, crashing to the ground as her upper half hung inside and the lower half just sitting right outside where Kalama would be right behind her.

    Great first impression...

The only verbal response that Kalama gave towards Aoi’s clownery was a sigh, while her right hand was briefly pressed against her face in exasperation. The situation was difficult enough for the moon mage as it was without her friend making a prize spectacle of herself. The boat trip had been a nightmare and she had pretty much spent the entirety of it playing babysitter for Aoi although she should probably have expected that to happen. Still, the white haired woman had attempted to make the most of the voyage and had actually quite enjoyed travelling across the water. Seasickness was not something that she seemed to suffer from and there was a beauty to the motion of the water, tranquil enough to help ease her own worries and also to help keep her from launching Aoi overboard head first.

She had agreed to come but that did not mean that there were not still doubts in the back of her mind. The same old questions that refused to go away, popping into her mind whenever she felt calm and content, enough to drive her completely insane. There were so many what if scenarios that were going through her head and her body language was rather defensive and suspicious. Yes, Aoi had told her of the nature of the guild that they were going to try and join and Kalama did truly wish to believe her but… Yes, there was always a but and it was that which kept her on her guard. Her behaviour could not have been any different from her obnoxious friend although somehow, those differences seemed to keep them together, no matter the situation.

“You are such a klutz,” she finally said, her tone as cold and grumpy as ever, even though there would be a slight and dry glimmer of humour in her words, before reaching down and helping Aoi up to her feet, “We are going to be thrown out before we even get a chance at this rate.” Pushing the door fully open, she would then lead the pair into what seemed to be a large hall of some kind. It made the lunar mage feel rather exposed and seeing so many people walk passed her was rather uncomfortable for her to say the least. She had never been fond of large space or being surrounded by those that she did not know, causing her own nerves to rise slightly.

“Please try to keep that perverse tongue of yours in check,”
she would add quietly as the pair seemed to reach the centre of the hall and then turning her head towards Aoi, “Just keep yourself under control until we know where we stand.” She knew that she was asking a lot but Kalama still felt the need to ask anyway.

A tattered, black cloak around his shoulders, his uniform torn in a number of places, Ambassador von Weiss slowly found his way up the stone stairway that led to the great archway that formed the entrance to the guildhall. The work that had to be done for the guild seemed like it would manifest in a multitude of different ways, some of these ways admittedly more dangerous and ... physical. While Johann dreaded the universally boring and monotonous tasks connected to managing the guild's paperwork, the point could be made that that particular was admittedly safer than tracking down an organization of bandits at the border of Fiore and Seven, especially so when that organization turned out to be a cult of demonic worshippers that had managed to amass an army. He'd taken an additional day to make sure that the threat was dealt with, scouring the woods for any stragglers or possible survivors. He wondered if Gangting, his old friend, had already found his way to Amber Island. Naturally, he couldn't be quite sure either way unless inquiring with the guild. In any case, at this point, the silver-haired Rune Mage longed for a change of clothes, not to mention, if possible, a nice bath, a quiet and inherently subtle sigh escaping his lips unheard as he continued to find his way towards the large doors with paced stride.

The return of the Ambassador drew the occasional curious gaze from passing Soldiers, though a sight like this one was not unusual or uncommon in any given capacity. It was to be expected, especially in the line of work the guild performed. Bounty-hunting was, understandably, a dangerous profession, especially so if the targets were the lowest of society. Pondering over these facts, Johann reached the top of the stairway, moving forward at the same pace as before, though, unexpecting of the sight that would cause him to stop and stare for a few passing moments before releasing a soft chuckle, a grin changing the neutral, tired expression of his face to a warmer one, watching as the woman clumsily fell onto the polished white marble flooring of the Throne Hall. He would've offered to help her up, of course, though another one rushed to pick her up before he could come forward before entering the guildhall itself. Would the two have business with the guild? The Ambassador would find out soon enough.

Making his way into the Throne Hall after the two and amidst the constant shift of people making their way in and out of the guild, he watched as the two made their way further in before coming to a halt, making no further progress into the Throne Hall. Perhaps they were newcomers and needed just a little bit of direction? It wouldn't hurt to ask. Maintaining the slow and collected pace, the man approached, clearing his throat before beginning to address them in a fashion that was admittedly simple, but it would do the job. "Hello", he began, following his greeting up with his intended inquiry, "Are you two new to Amber Island? I was wondering if there was anything specific you were looking for, or perhaps have any questions I could assist in answering?". Joh realized that his presentation was arguably lackluster at best, but a warm smile lightened the Ambassador's face, his tone, while curious, was friendly, and despite his obvious weariness, contained a stint that was at best interpreted as attempted helpfulness.

Her forehead attempted to smack into the ground as a sign of how done she was with herself in the moment, but the size of her mouthguard only prevented that. Instead, she was left there staring at the ground like an idiot, but at least pictures weren’t being taken and she wasn’t being laughed at, so there was at least that sense of comfort. As though she were ready to throw a tantrum like a small toddler, she was simply laying about and attempting to get up on her own once she had mentally recovered from her own mental brain fart of a moment and recollect her bearings when she felt something grab hold of her clothes. Aoi was quickly pulled up and then set her down onto her feet. Looking over, her friend had helped her up to her feet, though knowing it wasn’t really something that was for her will, she saw it as a means of berating her over it as though they would be kicked out over it.

Her arms folded at her chest and she let on a small pout from the way she had been scolded, but as a male voice spoke up once they had entered, she looked instantly to Kalama. She took one of her folded arms and extended it towards her with a thumb raised up. She was going to try and be good as much as she could, but being that she was also the primary push of them coming here... her not speaking would be putting Kal into a hard spot. She felt bad, having to put her friend into a predicament like this while she didn’t have much of a social motivation to begin with since their curse, but some things just couldn’t really help...

Now having to shuffle around like a timed charades playing with loaded gun to her head, she waffled around trying to figure out what to say or do. Instead, her attention shifted from one side to the other before she just gave a wave of her hand to the person greeting them. Along with his first question, she nodded her head, figuring that the ease of questions would make it easier to speak to him, but she had been a little more wanting to speak on the manner. Yet, she didn’t want to jeopardize their chances to join somewhere, so she wasn’t going to do that now.

After a moment to think on the idea, Aoi began to tap on her chin and then held out a finger as an idea came to her mind. She balled one hand into a fist, taking the other hand and holding it flat out like a flat surface and then smacking the side of her fist that would be the back picky finger side of the hand against the open palm. Next, she would repeat the fist smacking much gentler against her arm. She was attempting to communicate the idea of wanting to join and using the action of stamping as her way to “say” it.

Truthfully, Kalama was rather thankful for Aoi’s charade like attempt at trying to explain the situation because her mind had gone completely blank and her anti social nature had very quickly began to overwhelm her. She was just uncomfortable with speaking to anyone that she did not know and this was just another of those occasions. The tall white haired woman was frustrated with herself for feeling such a way but there was little she could do about it. It had been this way ever since the curse had been placed upon her although if she was honest with herself, she had never been a social butterfly, unlike her energy filled friend, who could never leave anyone alone for long. Kalama was simply glad that for the moment at least, those hands of Aoi’s were keeping to themselves.

After watching Aoi’s little performance, she was able to recover enough from her minor mental block and finally felt comfortable enough to actually speak, turning her gaze to the man in front of them, her tone was a little stiff but it was more out of awkwardness than anything else, “Hello, my name is Kalama and this little pipsqueak is Aoi. We have come to hopefully join the guild that resides here and help out those in need.” There was more to it than that naturally and there was a part of her that was saying to just state the fact that Aoi and herself were simply looking for a home but she could not quite say it at that stage. “I apologise if I sound a little indecisive but we have both been affected by a curse and it has caused us to become rather unsociable to put it lightly. I honestly find it difficult just standing here at the moment surrounded by faces that I do not recognise.” She cringed inwardly after saying that, wondering what on earth possessed her to just blurt that out but it was too late now and she understood that if she and Aoi were ever going to join a guild, they were going to have to be honest.

In no doubt that her friend was bound to want to say something on the topic, Kalama would briefly turn to Aoi and say, “I think it is time that you took the mouth guard out now.” Doing so could be asking for trouble but it had to happen sooner or later and honestly, the moon mage would certainly feel more comfortable with if her friend took the lead in the conversation.

Indeed, it seemed the silver-haired man, a headful of messy argent-hued strands hidden down to the eyes under the arguably much more presentable hat that completed his now tattered ambassadorial uniform, had been right in his assumption that the two girls had seemed rather, well, lost. The first to react was one of the two, a girl with dark hair that, for the lack of better description, seemed to wear some kind of muzzle or mouthguard that was actively preventing her from communicating via speech. Instead of directly addressing the Ambassador, she seemed to shift around in an almost nervous manner, Johann cocking his head with a raised eyebrow. Not only that, thereafter she would begin gesturing, Joh wondering if the girl was perhaps mute, deaf, or both, though much to his regret had not the faintest idea what exact message she was trying to convey.

"I- I'm not quite sure what you mean, Miss, I'm sorry", he spoke slowly and with a questioning tone, though his focus would shift as the other one would speak up in greeting, this new arrival not bound by the same apparent restrictions that had befallen the girl with the mouthguard. His head turning, the arguably confused smile remained, though he gave the woman, who had introduced herself as Kalama and the other girl as Aoi, a confident nod of understanding. So the two had travelled to Amber to join the guild. That explained a little, at least. "I see", Johann affirmed the clarification of intent in a simple manner, letting the newcomer continue her explanation that, arguably, didn't serve to resolve the man's confusion. Specifically, Johann thought, the statement that apparently and according to Kalama's word, both of them were, in fact, cursed, a circumstance that would explain Aoi's predicament as well as the woman with the pale hair's, as she described it, "unsociable" inclinations. It raised more questions than it answered, but Johann was content with inquiring about this later. For the time being, he acknowledged the woman's explanation with a nod.

"A curse, you say? Well ...", he paused for a few passing moments, thinking, though maintaining a lightly cheerful tone, "... in that case, do you believe it would be best to head for more quiet surroundings? The Mess Hall shouldn't be too busy at this time of day, and we can discuss recruitment over a cup of tea".

The man only now realized that, while the girls' names were now known to him, he himself had failed to introduce himself as of yet, causing the silver-haired mage to chuckle sheepishly. "Where are my manners, though. If you allow me, my name is Johann von Weiss. I am one of the Ambassadors of Dies Irae, the guild master if you will. I'm sure I can help you out if you are looking to join the guild. So, what do you think?", he inquired, addressing both girls before himself, pointing to a large hallway on the other side of the Throne Hall that would lead to the West Wing, where the Mess Hall was located.

Finally, Kalama had grew a pair and spoken for the both of them after her attempts at giving a bit of a charades attempt went out the window. Granted, she wasn't really thinking it could go through what with the whole idea that she can't really mimic the idea of stamping very well no matter how hard one tries... without maybe a desk or a paper or something. Maybe if she had an envelope, she could have gotten the word across a little better in that respect, but no matter. However, the way she had introduced the pair sat in a sour disposition for the brunette. She turned to face her friend, her arms outstretched above her head while glaring, wanting to give her the old "What the f***!" look. As the upheld arms lowered, they settled down, folded at her chest with a huff and the rolling of her eyes. She'd get her comeuppance for sure. If Aoi was good at anything, it was saying the craziest things at the oddest of times. So awkward moments were bound to arrive.

At the mention of their shared affliction, the now physically relaxed of the two had just let out a small sigh, her eyes shifting off to the side. She hated knowing this would have to come about. Just the mere mention of the curse was more than enough to be too much of a reminder of the past, but it was a necessary thing as well to keep her mentally motivated to want to seek out and cure this curse. What first drew her attention back to the other two had been that Kalama thought it be a good idea for her to take out the mouthguard. Sure, it would help them to get through things, but... there was this little voice in her head that told her it would be a bad idea to do so. The look that she gave Kal was one of uncertainty in her suggestion. Was she sure this was the best idea this early? It wasn't so much about keeping her regular behavior in check, but more of the course of events after.

It wasn't until Johann's mention of moving to the mess hall that the idea struck Aoi's mind. As her head turned towards him, her eyes seemed to light up with ideas and the ease of being around others sounded nearly perfect. Though, her idea still cycled through her mind as well. What if.. Well, it was worth a try. Her hands reached back through her hair and fiddled around for a moment. Knowing the moment she took it off, the clock would begin ticking for her and if her plan worked, she could get it to be held back as well. The material used to tie together the guard would loosen and she would let go of it from her mouth, letting it drop down to her neck level before tying it loosely around there. For her own sake as well as others, she learned to keep it at quick reach of placing back in if she had any worrying feeling that it would worsen.

"Could.. we maybe get some food too, please?" She asked, her tone of voice a little softer, yet caught up with a slight accent. Clearing her through, she took in a deep breath and then exhaled, wanting to enjoy that feeling just a little more. "Also.. I AIN'T that short... pale ass son bitch." Her voice trailed off a little as she finished her declaration, muttering almost as she had laid her little insult into her friend for her earlier comment. She was lucky that she was more willing to be on a better behavior for both of their sake more than anything. Still, she didn't want to keep rude towards Johann's question. "W-We are. With these curses, I was more worried 'bout any problems should someone need to be dealt with... or if we bein' frank... my specific curse." She paused and looked down, her eyes laying onto the mouthguard, then back up towards the ambassador. "I can explain it more when we sit down, if you don't mind." Finally, Aoi felt she was done getting the ice broken on her part. Having to choose her words carefully was a bitch and a half, but if it got both girls to a place where they could feel safe, it would be well beyond worth the effort.

To hear that they were being addressed by the Guildmaster himself was somewhat of a surprise to the moon mage although she handled it quite well. “We would appreciate that, thank you,” she replied in answer to his suggestion, before adding shortly after, remembering her manners and thinking it best to stay formal, despite how uncomfortable she felt, “A pleasure to meet you, Guildmaster.” The thought of heading to a quieter location was certainly an idea that she could get behind and her shoulders started to relax as she began to become accustomed to her surroundings. How she despised this wall of anxiousness that always came up, making even the simplest conversation or social encounter so much more difficult than it should have been.

Just as she was beginning to settle down, the mouth guard would come out and Aoi typically turned her wrath on to her after her earlier comment. Kalama frowned and rose an eyebrow, briefly wondering if she might have made a mistake in asking the little runt to take the guard out so soon. “No, of course not, everyone else is just tall and I am NOT pale,” she countered waspishly, her expression was deadpan although despite the teasing, she had to admit that hearing her friend join the conversation did soothe her own worries.

Hearing Aoi mention her own curse did cause Kalama to briefly consider her own for a moment or two. Honestly, hers was probably the more beneficial of the two and it had allowed her to access the world of magic. In those brighter moments that so rarely broke through her grumpiness, she did wonder if perhaps it was actually a gift in its own way, although the change in her appearance had caused her so much mental stress. No matter how many days passed, she still felt a sense of disgust every morning when she looked in the mirror. Was this truly going to be permanent and she would always be this way? The thought caused her to sigh slightly and she briefly shook her head.

“It is true that our particular afflictions can make stressful situations even more so and unfortunately for Aoi, hers is rather more difficult to control than mine,” she added in agreement with her friend’s point. The white haired mage was not trying to put down her down with her comment, she was just speaking truthfully. Kalama had been on the receiving end of her friend’s temper more than once and it had never been a pretty occasion but it had brought them closer, despite the danger.

Johann stood and watched, admittedly somewhat unsure what to make of this display, when the girl took out the mouthguard piece that had kept her from communicating in a matter coherent to the Ambassador before. The other woman, Kalama, took the word, answering the question for both of them with an affirmative notion, the other, Aoi, asking the silver-haired man in torn clothing for food as well. Johann responded with a confirming nod. "Of course, the Mess Hall will be at your disposal". The manner that the pale-haired newcomer spoke, Johann quietly noted, was a tone that was rather polite, although it seemed that the two women, when speaking to each other, seemed much more, for the lack of a better term, casual, Aoi especially. Johann didn't mind, either way, a lightly amused smirk lifting up a corner of his mouth. "The pleasure is all mine", he spoke in a friendly manner before moving on to the subject of the curse, a mild curiosity plaguing the silver-haired man that, to the perceptive individual, would easily be picked up. "I would like to discuss what exactly this subject entails in greater detail if you don't mind".

Johann straightened and took a deep breath, folding his hand behind his back as he turned around, shooting a look over his shoulder with a definitive "Follow me", gesturing to the hallway that led through the West Wing and directly into the Mess Hall. Every step on the smooth marble floor of the guildhall echoed back from the grey walls of solid granite, determined stride, after not much of a walk, taking the small group to the entrance of the now somewhat empty area where most of the guild members had their meals. The large room was lined with rows of uniform tables and chairs, one side of the Mess Hall cleared to allow for an arrangement in form of a long bar, an open kitchen stretching out into the space behind it. The bar itself was lined with trays and plates that held a wide assortment of foods, from all kinds of vegetables, prepared in different ways to suit different tastes, meats, soups, and every other basic culinary need that might arise, eventually even culminating in what was, although admittedly way smaller than the regular buffet, a small selection of desserts. The Ambassador, as usual, was hit with the scents of these foods well in advance, although that circumstance was not unwelcome, gesturing over to the buffet as he looked at the two newcomers. "Please, help yourself to whatever might interest you. I'll be waiting over there", pointing to a free table before moving on, the only item he would get for himself, for now, a steaming hot cup of water, a single tea bag of Earl Grey floating leisurely within, slowly coloring giving the liquid a distinctly amber hue.

As soon as both had gathered for themselves the food and drink of their desire from the available buffet, Johann, taking the occasional sip from his tea, would speak up once more. "So, I think the most pressing matter at hand would be that curse you two have been referring to. I would like to ask you, if you would allow me, what exactly are the parameters and consequences of this curse? You'll have to forgive me my curiosity, but as you undoubtedly know, there is a certain ... stigma carried by an affliction such as this". The Ambassador did by no means intend to be rude, or even presumptuous, but the man was the guild master of Dies Irae, and as such, naturally, had to be sure that he worried about the safety of his Soldiers first and foremost, hopefully understandably so. There was, however, one more question on his mind as well, tying into his first question, he picked back up where he had left off with the first question a mere moment after. "Another question I would like to ask is, and you are by no means required to answer me, ...", he paused for a brief, passing second, "... would be what specifically brings the two of you to Amber Island, and Dies Irae in particular?". If the two were seeking to be admitted into the guild, the man, having gone through this process not seldom before, the Ambassador wanted to make sure that the correct capabilities and motivations were a given. Of course, there was no such thing as a wrong answer to this question, but as the guild master, Johann simply liked to know his Soldiers on a more personal level, prompting him to inquire. Regardless, he would listen intently for a reply, all the while taking another sip from the teacup in his hand.

Post by Aoi 11th January 2020, 12:36 pm

The brunette just rolled her eyes and huffed at her friends comment. She wasn’t going to get fully into it here, not when she knew the reason was more important for a silly little recurring argument. Thankfully, these arguments were more like nearly consistent jabs at one another, however now she was being a little more annoyed at the idea of it being around others. Perhaps a bit more along the lines of embarrassing because of them being with the ambassador? It was hard to tell for sure. Still, Aoi chose to not let it get the best of her and simply pushed the thought aside and allow it to not bother her anymore. She’d get Kal back, no doubt. Even if it meant while she slept...

”Nah, we can surely do that.” She replied, almost implying that Kalama has no say in the matter, though that wasn’t her intention to do so. However, if the white haired friend didn’t have it in her to speak for herself, it’d save her the breath and anxiety of trying to. Even then, there was little belief she felt that way right now since the girl had started to come out of her little shell enough to do so. With only a nod to agree with him leading the pair on, she began to trail behind the ambassador as they headed towards the mess hall in question. While doing so, the more lecherous nature of Aoi’s begun to shine. Her eyes wandering around the halls until she’d catch the swivel in his step. A brow raised while she seemed to lock on and in an attempt to act, she bit onto her bottom lip and took in a small breath of air, then exhaling. ”Ya know, I hope you got a girlfriend, cause someone who ain’t got a claim on that ass is a criminal.” She could have withheld that, but.. where was the fun in that?

As they arrived into the mess hall, the cursed girl’s jaw nearly dropped. The layout reminded her of a buffet type scenario, but it all look so interesting that she couldn’t help but nearly begin to drool with anticipation. Yet, Johann’s voice called her attention to his face this time as he mentioned waiting for them by an empty table. With a nod and smile, Aoi rushed off towards the hall and began to load up a plate of food with various meats, greens, and seafood. She was like a kid in a candy store, but wanting to hold herself back and knowing food would get cold while she explained everything would be hard to enjoy warm food with a sour attitude... so she brought a bowl of soup with her! Something sweet to help counteract that encroaching feeling. Setting both down, she sat up in her seat and looked over at the cup of tea that the ambassador had. Her eyes went to her food, then wanted to feel a little bad about it... but she just shrugged. If he got hungry, he’d get himself food, right? Right.

Finally, he got down a bit to the point. Before she even began, she picked up the bowl of soup and just started to drink from the side of the bowl. Setting it down, she sighed and huffed out the steaming heat she just inhaled with her soup. ”Well, it ain’t an assurance on both parts... Both of our curses vary greatly. That there mouthguard I wear keeps me under control, like a suppressant of sorts. When I ain’t got it in my mouth for too long, I start gettin’ all feral like. I mean like full on growlin’, and I get really reckless. I... Well, we ain’t never let it get too far. We got this leek carved out into one off my old farm from what was left of the ol’ place and I’ve been using that since.” In a bit of a pause, she opened her mouth and took a large bite out of a piece of meat. As she did so, the sharp canines would be easily seen before it was sunk into her meal. ”Mmmm! Dish ish sho good!” She replied, still chewing on her food while she squealed with a continual joy.

When she swallowed her food, another question followed up behind it. Their intentions. It wasn’t like it was bound to come up. Honestly, now that she’d thought of it, it was hard for her to truly say she would be a little difficult with the way she’d thought it out in her head, but she wasn’t going to lie. ”Well... it was more of my suggestion than anything. I wanted us to belong somewhere and I couldn’t leave Kal by herself. We in this together, and I ain’t gonna leave my friend alone when she needs me, and I can’t do it without her either, but we also know alone we ain’t gonna get too far. I had to be sure that wherever we would go we could end up in a place that wouldn’t try to use us like guinea pigs or tools. And we ain’t about to go to no Rune Knights either. I know y’all got some uniforms too, which made me a bit more for this guild too. Ain’t nothin’ says unity like matching uniforms.” This last comment made her smile a bit. She was excited by the idea of it all.

To be able to win a battle of wits with Aoi was always a bit of a boost to her morale and there was a momentary glimpse of smugness in Kalama’s expression. It did not last all that long but it was there nonetheless. It might have seemed like just a childish argument between the pair from onlookers looking in but for the white haired woman at least, it was somewhat deeper than that. It gave her the chance to blow off some of her inner frustrations and let her open up just a little, without having to concern herself with saying something that came off as too prickly or inappropriate. Oh, she was not lewd or lecherous like her friend but she had a wicked tongue too, one that could cut right to the bone if she was irritated enough.

Kalama did not say a word as the three of them moved into the mess hall and kept her own council for the most part although her eyebrows did rise as she saw the splendour of the room. It was a beautiful looking room and the moon mage mused that it must have cost an absolute fortune to build. Her eyes would then fall upon the enormous buffet of food that Aoi had leapt upon without a moment's thought. The moonlight warrior was not surprised at all as it had been a long time since they had been able to eat and drink so heartily. Life on the road was difficult and their ailments had only made that more so. She was somewhat reluctant to eat quite so much herself though, despite her hunger, mainly due to the fact that her stomach was currently tied in knots out of anxiety. The thought of chundering it all back up caused a brief shiver to run up her spine. So, she simply picked up a glass and filled it with water, before taking a seat beside her friend.

No sooner as she had taken her first sip came Johann’s first pair of questions and the moon mage was quite happy for Aoi to speak first and answer them, giving her the time to come up with her own responses. They were fair questions and as she listened to her friends answers, she began to realise that this was where their reasons differed. Was it the thought of finding an actual home and allies that had caused her to come? Deep down, the answer was honestly no.

The first question was easier to answer though and so, after some thought, she eventually answered, deciding to just speak honestly, “My curse changed me completely. Appearance, personality, morales, everything. Where as Aoi becomes more feral and aggressive over time, I am somewhat the opposite. I have become so reserved and uncomfortable around others that it is difficult for me to function properly around them in most situations, even more so in daylight. It is only under the light of the moon that I feel truly comfortable although I am unsure as to why at the moment.”

It actually helped ease her anxiousness to speak in such a way and after taking a sip of water, she gave her own answer to the guild master’s second question while she had the confidence to do so, “I think that it being Aoi’s suggestion is a bit of an understatement, as she had to be rather firm in order to get me to come, no offence meant. The thought of joining a guild is an uncomfortable and daunting one for me but I am willing to try and get over my doubts and worries if it means that she finds happiness here.”

She paused briefly, before adding, “I cannot speak for Aoi but my personal reason for choosing Dies Irae would be for its credo. We have both been victims of the cruel and depraved who lurk across these lands and if the true cause of this guild is to rid the world of such people then that is one that I can get behind. The magic I wield came from the curse and if I can somehow find a positive use for it then all the better.”

When the smaller of the two women spoke up in the hallway, making a comment that was rather ... direct, to say the last, the Ambassador's confident stride stopped abruptly, his face, covered in an expression of genuine bewilderment and, frankly, speechlessness, was turned back over his shoulder to direct a rather confused glance at Aoi, both eyebrows raised and mouth slightly ajar as if to say something. A second would pass where the silver-haired man remained like this before the Ambassador turned his head back to the hallway before him, noticeably clearing his throat, for all intents and purposes somewhat embarrassed by the comment the brown-haired girl had made. He decided that the best course of action would be to ignore that particular incident and act like it'd never happened. He couldn't be sure if that specific choice of words stemmed from the curse the two had described, but regardless, Aoi had succeeded at least in getting the old man flustered.

Later, when the man had asked his questions, he was set on listening intently, his gaze directed at the slight swirl of amber liquid within his cup as he brought it to his lips and set it down, looking up to Aoi, who took the initiative and answered his question first. Luckily for Johann, she described the effects and circumstances of her personal curse to him, the mouthguard, and the "feral-like", to use her words, nature of the affliction. Johann nodded with an "I see", not yet responding further as she continued to answer his second question, all the while continuously partaking in the meal she had assembled for herself. More or less, the dark-haired woman's answer could be condensed to the comradery and sanctuary Dies Irae provided, something the Ambassador couldn't exactly blame her for, even though the fact that Aoi seemed to care little for the guild's ideals did leave a somewhat bitter metaphorical aftertaste in the Ambassador's mouth. Still, he had long accepted the fact that not everyone was in this particular line of work for ideological reason, or motivated by the same conviction he held.

Before he could think about it in any greater detail, though, Kalama took the word, answering the same questions her friend had answered just before. The white-haired woman explained that her curse seemed like the opposite of the affliction that plagued her friend, and that anxiety was an ever-present companion for her. Not just that, she also added that, while reluctantly, she had, in fact, given Dies Irae consideration for their goals and aspirations. The man would nod once again. "Very well, I think I understand. So this ... curse, it affects the two of you? Do you know who cursed you, or perhaps, more importantly, know why you have been cursed?", the man asked the two, intent on finalizing that particular part of their conversation, driven by curiosity, but held back by the realization that intense inquiry would probably serve to make the two uncomfortable, more than anything. Still, if the two were to join the guild and they had information that could help, the guild would certainly able to assist them in their endeavor, if not to strive to cure them of their current condition, then at least to prevent others from suffering the same fate.

Independent of their response, though, the Ambassador was quite sure that, between the answers the two had given him, the women, or more specifically their curses, were of no particular threat to their surroundings, though perhaps to their own selves, however. They seemed, at least to Johann, like they weren't lying either. In honesty, the man had no reason to refuse them entry into the guild if they needed it, and so, in preparation, placed one hand in the pocket of his coat in order to pull out the vial of red ink when needed.

Score! One point for farmer Aoi!

The look on the ambassadors face was frankly priceless, however she didn’t laugh as though she were normally joking. Though she wanted to continue being courteous, denying and hiding a rather large part of personality wasn’t something she should do. If Kalama had any say from the start, she’d probably plan to super glue the mouthguard to her lips so she couldn’t say such outlandish things again. However, that wasn’t going to be the problem at all, not until her friend could grow a pair and get her act together to be more socially independent again. And as much as she enjoyed being a little bit of a social butterfly, she hasn’t had the best of chances to be that due to her own affliction. It was difficult to do much of anything without prodding the lunar mage with non verbal communication, not to mention having to restrain herself from doing it herself. A daunting task for someone like she used to be.

Giving him only a bit of a wink and then smiling, she stood in wait and allowed Johann to regather himself before they’d moved into the mess hall where they’d have begun to eat and/or drink to their content. Rattling off the bit of the tip of their iceberg of a problem to him proved to be something, but it wasn’t going to end the way she had planned it to go. Giving only a sigh of relief from the food in her stomach, the enjoyable look of almost childish glee washed over the cursed brunette. Patting her stomach gently, she had picked up her plate when the next question from the ambassador had caused her to drop it back onto the table. Thankfully, she hadn’t stood up from the table as of yet, but it still made a small noise.

Her eyes trailed to her friend as that quickly formed smile shattered. Twisted into a growing look of worry before they’d nod to one another. ”I dun suppose it needs to be out there.” She said, pushing the plate aside. Her elbows and forearms resting in front of her figure on the table while she took in a deep breath and then exhaled. ”As far as we know, we ain’t the only two alive from this here curse. My papa told me stories as a youngin’ growin’ up ‘bout how ‘the end of the lap of luxury gonna end’ and crazy hoo-hah like that. But papa ain’t no fool. One mornin’ we smell this wretched, rottin’ stench from all over the farm. We ran out to the porch to see our land literally rotting away before our eyes. All our crops doin’ the same there thing.” She paused for a moment, her attention swaying to her friend for a brief moment in her pause before she continued on. ”I dun ran into town as fast as I could to get help when I could see what.. what I could only describe as the most disturbing scene ever.” In a choked up moment, she cleared her throat, still finding it hard to mentally process the thought after some time had passed. ”People dropping, skin colors all sorts of shades from a faded pink, to ash grey, black and blue. Droppin’ like dang flies. I blacked out just after that, maybe from shock. I don’t really know...”

Stopped from her story, she leaned back in her seat some and huffed. ”That’s when I learned the story I had been told wasn’t the full story. There been tales and the like bout the village being ‘devil worshippers’ or what have ya. They would tell kids about a story of how some old people back in the day signed this contract with some kind of weird guy. They’d have er’rything that a thriving country would want for 50 years. All they people would be healthy, crops be bountiful and perfect, and then when the contract was up, those in the land would pay the price. But them old folk were thinkin bout only themselves, so they signed it. That’s all I know ‘bout it, though...” Not thinking that the information she had was enough, she didn’t really much on it too much since it happened, trying to keep looking for the good in anything to pep up her friend, but who knew what could happen.

Post by Guest 22nd February 2020, 3:32 pm

It was difficult to have to sit there and listen as Aoi recalled that horrible day and the memories soon began to dwell within Kalama’s mind as her friend spoke. Besides the occasional movement of bringing the glass to her lips, there was little to give away just what the tall lunar mage was thinking. Those recollections were never that far away from the forefront of her mind and she had spent many nights lying there, trying to get them out of her mind in order to sleep. The events of that day were ones that no one deserved to have to witness, let alone suffer through and with a slight sigh, she figured that perhaps the only way to actually be able to move on was by simply bringing them out into the open, as Aoi had. It had worked so far in terms of speaking about her curse and if she was ever going to truly fit in with this guild then she would have to be able to just speak her own mind, without fear of doing so.

“I was in the the middle of the village when it all started,” she said calmly, placing her glass down on the table, “In a single moment, everything changed. The skies darkened and everyone around me seemed to wither away, as though their very souls were being drained away. Friends, family, acquaintances, it did not discriminate and everyone that I knew just fell to the ground. It struck me too and I could feel this bone chilling cold as the same thing started to happen to me. Every positive thought and feeling was eaten away, leaving me with nothing but fear and anxiety. It truly felt as though I was being fed upon although it was not just my body that was desired.”

She stopped then, as the memories almost overwhelmed her but the mage shook her head and focused her gaze back towards the Ambassador, “Then I felt this pain start to tear through my body as my transformation began to take place. It was the most horrible sensation that I have ever felt in my life and I occasionally still feel phantom pains now. All I remember of those few moments is a myriad of colour, a cold sense of dread and the sound of my own screaming which left almost damaged my vocal chords. When I came back to myself, I was who you see before you now. My instinct was to just run and that is what I did. I found Aoi on the ground, the effects of her own curse starting to take effect, picked her up and just ran until my legs gave way. I did not even look back at what our village had become.”

Turning her gaze towards Aoi for a moment, she would then sigh a second time, “I believe that if we had remained in the village any longer then we would have become little more than mindless puppets, unable to think for ourselves. We were fortunate to get out of there at all and I highly doubt that anyone left in the village now would even remember us or who they once were. It was magic of the darkest kind and I honestly hope that one day the source of it gets put down for good, lest the caster continue to pray on the weak or greedy.”

The dark-haired girl, once more, would take the word first when Johann had asked his follow up question, Johann watching her expression change as soon as he had done so. Aoi had seemed quite lively up until this point, leaving the silver-haired Ambassador to wonder if the inquiry had perhaps been insensitive and struck a nerve. A circumstance that was, by no means, his intention. Still, the girl would oblige, beginning to tell a story, her story, and probably by extension, their story, the Ambassador listening intently, his eyes, however, lowered, locked on the teacup placed on the table before the man in contemplation. Johann could emphasize with Aoi, the story she was telling, after all, resembled a fateful day in his own life that had taken place on this very island. Comparatively, it had been a long time, decades, but the memory was still fresh, and would most likely remain so for as long as he lived. Regardless, this event was the sole reason for the existence of this guild, of Dies Irae, the sole reason the Ambassador had decided to share his ambition with the world. If that was the way the two friends felt, in a fashion that was not just understandable, but relatable for the Rune Mage, then perhaps they fit with Dies Irae more than he had initially expected earlier. Instinctively, he felt like, having gone through this, the two would understand the values that this organization represented, and the overall end goal, as well: To prevent something like this from happening ever again. Whatever it took.

Once Aoi had finished detailing her point of view, her fair-haired friend was next, speaking with not much in the way of emotion, the way she presented her side especially harsh to the God of Ishgar. Her words, her tone, the man assumed as part of his own background, pointed to a deeply traumatic experience. The Ambassador raised his eyes from the teacup, meeting Kalama's gaze, a hint of tragedy, genuine, empathetical sadness passing through his normally so practiced, neutral expression. The woman concluded that the two were lucky to even be alive, Johann averting his gaze, closing his eyes for just a few passing moments, taking a subtle, but deep breath as he collected himself silently, though not unnoticeably so. "I- ...", he began, thinking about his choice of words for a fleeting second, "I'm sorry this has happened to both of you. I did not mean to bring up painful memories. Please, forgive me". He paused briefly once again, his tone, however, shifting to follow the direction of the conversation. "Regardless, -", he began, "-I want to thank you for sharing your impressions with me despite any discomfort my question caused. Admittedly, though, I think I understand it a little better now".

The Ambassador stopped in thought one last time, though was now fairly convinced that this would be the best course of action, reaching into one of his pockets before producing two small vials, contained within a blood-red, viscous liquid that seemed to be locked in a constant, mesmerizing swirl of its own. "I am convinced that both you, Aoi-", he turned to look at the dark-haired woman before shifting his head towards the fair-haired one, "-and you, Kalama, are more than suited to be soldiers of Dies Irae". With those words, the man solemnly rose from his seat, the two vials held within his right hand between his fingers, uncorking both containers at the same time. "Effective immediately, I would like to welcome both of you into the guild at the rank of Neophytes, should that be your wish. For the duration of your membership, as long as you desire to remain, please consider these halls your home, and your fellow soldiers as your comrades". With a practiced, fluid motion, the Ambassador seemed to almost beckon the magical liquid to leave its container, the ink, perhaps more surprisingly, following the motion, floating through the air and hanging suspended above his palm in two floating spheres of fluid. "The one thing I would like to ask of you, however, is that, while you are a mage of Dies Irae, handle yourself and others with respect, with dignity, and with grace. Be strong when you have to be, be kind when the situation allows it", the Ambassador followed up with a serious tone that radiated with determined conviction. "Now, where do you wish for your guild marks to be placed?".

As both women would present the location for their mark, the ink would react as if it possessed intelligence on its own, floating through the space between them in a way that almost resembled small, curious entities, whizzing about for a moment before reacting to the individual's desire, planting itself on their skin and sinking into it. Within naught more than just a second, perhaps less, the ink would adjust its shape into a cross, the official insignia of the guild, and while still red, would, after another second, adjust it's color to its holder's desire, too, making both Kalama and Aoi official members. A warm smile would find its way onto the man's expression again. It was official, subtle, but not fake. "By the rights bestowed onto me by the Magic Council of Fiore, I welcome you to Dies Irae, soldiers. To make it official-", Johann would reach into another pocket once more, pulling out two spare keys, both attached to a numbered plaque, "-each of these belong to a room in the East Wing of the guild hall, where the living quarters are located. Feel free to make use of them, if you wish". He placed both keys on the table for them to take. "If there is nothing else, for now, I will retreat to my office. Should you have any questions, feel free to seek me out. In the meantime, explore the guild hall to your heart's content, or indulge in the mess hall a little longer, if you want". Unless the two had any more issues that they wished to address, the Ambassador would offer them a short, symbolic bow, before turning and heading for the exit to the Mess Hall, his mind still lingering on the two individuals and their story, though, not without the hope that one day, the guild might help them accomplish their goals.

Curses! (Intro/Kalama/Open) Empty Re: Curses! (Intro/Kalama/Open)

Post by Aoi 11th March 2020, 10:22 am

It was always a more wallowing point to hear her friends side of the story than her own. Aside from the fact that they had seen almost the same things, Aoi’s blacking out had spared her some of the mental scarring that Kalama had to endure over time and the feeling of regret and guilt has festered. Slowly but surely. Whether it may have been the fact that she couldn’t handle it and shut down or it effectively was the curses while doing that kept her from being more openly emotional, all of her former antics couldn’t really put much more than a half smile on the lunar mages face. If anything was more disheartening for her, it was the feeling that she couldn’t make her friend happy.

Her eyes widened as the ambassador had stood up from his seat, albeit declaring his belief and what she took to be a very solemn apology for the things they went through to get here. ”I ain’t so sure that discomfort is what I felt. To be fair, it’s the first time I dun told this story to anyone, mostly cause I don’t speak much... and before you even say it Kal, ‘and when you do, it’s sometimes too much~’ blah blah~” She replied in a somewhat mocking manner while waving her hand in a dismissive motion, trying to lighten the mood a little. Still, to hear that the story wasn’t too far fetched that it was more understood than thought upon like a tragedy felt a bit strange, but something she didn’t think much on. It wasn’t her place to be able to make such thoughts or questions on the subject right now.

Aoi had begun to eat some more food on her plate as Johann picked up where he left off. Apparently her plan worked better than she thought and for that, she was at least able to know she could control her curse a little better, but she knew there was no way in hell she’d ruin her figure just to try and talk a little more often. Her gaze settled to a pair of small vials that he held in between his fingers, popping them open as he began to declare the two of them to be suitable for the chance to join the guild. The brunette’s whole expression brightened hearing those words, only first to look to her friend to assure that she felt the same. She wanted her to feel accepted as much as the farm girl herself was hoping for. She’d wait to see the girls own reaction in hope she would be as elated about it as she was herself.

When the ambassador had gone about advising them about being respectful and act with dignity and grace, she seemed a bit down from it. ”Does that mean I can’t ‘compliment’ someone’s ass anymore? Mm.. nah, nevermind that question. This is worth it.” Making a little giggle of the pushed aside question, Aoi’s only reply after was to stick her hand out, palm up to the question of the placement of her guild mark. She wanted it to be somewhere easy to see, for her a reminder of somewhere where she felt safe and accepted as well as a source of confidence if she ever lost it. It was something of pride to her in a time where she ceased to have as much as she used to.

After the bit of official jargon over them being officially instated as members of the guild, the pair of cursed women were handed keys to vacant rooms in the hall to which they would be allowed to sleep in. Finally, a real bed that she could sleep in without having to pay someone for! Damn hotels... With an excited feeling over having the new tattoo on top of a room key, she missed her chance to give any sort of joking flirt towards Johann before he had left the pair. A shame, really. Just to make a passing joke about him stopping by her room anytime would have been a good laugh... for her at least. Regardless, Aoi simply latched onto her friend with both of her arms. ”I told you it wouldn’t be so bad, Kal!” She cheered, continuing so for a moment until she would release her hold on the lunar mage. ”I’m so excited I don’t know what to do first. What do you wanna do?” She asked, turning herself in her seat to face the girl.

Curses! (Intro/Kalama/Open) Empty Re: Curses! (Intro/Kalama/Open)

Post by Guest 11th March 2020, 12:47 pm

A nod of the head was Kalama’s only real response to the Ambassador’s response although the look in her eye was rather softer than it had been. The look that he had given her as she was speaking was one of familiarity to her, a look of genuine sadness that the lunar mage understood all too well. He understood how she was feeling and that was enough to help her start to get over her hesitance of joining the guild in the first place. That was what had caused her to feel so reluctant. The fear of rejection had become so strong in her that she had simply responded in the only way she could, by shutting herself away, into the confines of her own mind. It was not going to be an easy or quick process to open herself up again but the white haired mage would try, it was all she could do. She just hoped that there were not any mandatory parties or anything as getting through one of those would be an absolute nightmare.

She made no effort to respond to Aoi’s mockery and simply let it pass this time, leaning back in her chair, feeling as though a weight had been lifted from her shoulders now that things had been laid bare. To say that a smile would cross her features was probably going a little too far but she at least looked rather less grim at this point. Her body language was more relaxed although the chances of her ever being as lively as her friend were most probably zero. Aoi would always be the voice of the pair, as frustrating as that often was for Kalama. Still, her friend brought some light into her normally dark life and that was more than enough. They had both suffered so much and it was partly due to Aoi’s jokes that the lunar mage had not lost her mind a while ago. Her friend kept her sane.

As the Ambassador welcomed them into the guild, Kalama would briefly ponder to herself that if there was a time for turning back, it was now. Yet, much to her relief and happiness, there were no such thoughts in her mind. They had vanished into the abyss and she actually began to feel something that she had not felt since that fateful day. A sense of belonging. His words meant more to her than she would outwardly show and as he explained the rules of the organisation, Kalama had no issue with any of them although the thought of Aoi treating other people with grace amused her.

When asked about where she wanted her mark, the lunar mage did not even think about it and simply turned her right hand around, resulting in the ink whizzing towards her and stamping the back of her hand, much to her astonishment. Her eyes would fall upon the mark for quite some time, as she realised what it meant. Unfortunately, the moment was promptly ruined as she also realised that Aoi would probably never let her hear the end of it. The sounds of the keys being placed on the table caused her to perk up again and as the Ambassador took his leave, the lunar mage would simply say, her tone genuine, “Thank you for giving us somewhere to call our own.”

Any chance of a moment to reflect was quickly dashed as Aoi grabbed hold of her, her friends eyes twinkling with excitement. “How about we have a look at these new rooms of ours? I must admit that I am curious about our new digs. I just hope that you will be able to keep yours tidy...I mean after what you did to that last hotel room, I shudder to think about what you might do.” The dry humour was back in full force and the look that she gave her friend was one that she had seen a million times before.

After a moment's pause, she added, “You were right, Aoi, as much as it pains me to say it. Coming here was definitely the right move, for the both of us but I swear that if an idea of yours makes me feel that uncomfortable again then there will be trouble. I thought I was going to have a panic attack or something.” It had been necessary though and now that she looked back on it, she could hardly argue.

Curses! (Intro/Kalama/Open) Empty Re: Curses! (Intro/Kalama/Open)

Post by Aoi 13th March 2020, 10:41 am

The cursed brunette enjoyed hearing her friend coming from her shell even a little. For being so scrunched up and silent, she had so quickly turned to being more relaxed and at ease. The sight alone had made her a bit happier overall about having come here, but the guilt of knowing how Kalama was and still pushing her to come was subsiding substantially. She only hoped that the girl would come to get along with others, maybe in due time if she was hopeful. Meanwhile, she’d have to restrain herself big time as not to get into too much trouble... maybe just getting in enough to know the rules to wiggle around to her normal antics. Or as close to them as she could get for the time being.

Her friends offer to go and visit their new rooms had been something that she planned to do it they had split up for a little while, but seeing as she was finished eating and up for celebrating a bit with the lunar mage, Aoi seemed to be more excited than before to do so. That was, until she brought up the hotel incident. Her sunny disposition had gone cloudy and gloomy, with a 200% chance of sadness. ”I-I thought y’all weren’t going to bring that up... I-I couldn’t help the night terror... I-I did still pay, anyway...” Her tone was low, almost shuttered with a bit of fear. It was something she’d try to deal with, however she couldn’t escape the idea these terrors would cause sudden, violent shifts during her sleep or become comatose for several days at a time. Lately, the former had become more frequent and the last time it had, she had to be forcefully disarmed of her sword from the level of her panicked state.

Moving along to the West wing of the guild where the rooms were, she had remained quiet, even for her not having the mouthguard in her mouth at all. She kept to the silence until turned what would be the final corner towards the rooms. ”I would be lying if I wasn’t nervous myself... I don’t feel any more the same as you do. You... you just have better control over it than I do. I... I don’t know for sure what this curse did to me, so don’t be too harsh on me with it, please?” Her voice carried a light shaking to it, becoming more and more afraid over what could come from her curse. Already knowing she had no control once it went too far was bad enough, but this was becoming more of an issue for her mentally than she let on. ”A-Anyway, I think this is your room here. Why don’t we have you go first? Maybe I’ll feel a little better afterward.” Though she smiled, her words didn’t carry the same confidence she had today.

Curses! (Intro/Kalama/Open) Empty Re: Curses! (Intro/Kalama/Open)

Post by Guest 13th March 2020, 12:06 pm

The tall white haired woman did not say anything at all until the pair reached her new room, rather surprised by how strongly Aoi had responded to her attempt at humour. She simply remained silent and let her friend talk although that did not mean that the lunar mage was ignoring her. On the contrary, she was listening to every word and Kalama would sigh as she realised just how poorly she had judged her attempt at a joke. Every word that came out of her mouth seemed to be cold and emotionless, no matter what her intentions were. It was just another reason that she tried to keep her mouth closed these days and keep to herself. God, how she despised the curse, with every fiber of her being. Yet, she just could not express it properly. There were so many times where she had just wanted to vent and scream but it just did not happen, no matter how much she wanted it too. Yes, there were advantages to it, that came with a painful price.

Just as she was about to unlock the door to her room, Kalama would pause and finally speak, turning around to look down at her friend, “Look Aoi, I did not mean to hurt your feelings, alright? Neither of us truly know the full extent of this curse and there are times where I honestly wish that I had just a little of your energy. You brought us here and we now have an entire guild of friends and allies to help us come to terms with our afflictions. Believe me, if feeling like I do means that I am in control then I would honestly rather not be.” She had detected the shaking of Aoi’s tone of voice and mentally cursed herself for not being able to sound soothing.

She would then turn back towards the door and place the key inside, before pushing it open, revealing a rather quaint set of quarters. It was nicely decorated in the colours of the guild and even Kalama had to admit that it was a lovely room, surpassing easily all of the hotel rooms that she and Aoi had previously used during their travels. Her eyes were briefly drawn to the window and after approaching it, she would then lift it up, giving her a grand view of their new home. It was also thankfully not too much of a drop, which the lunar mage considered a plus, should her longing for moonlight become too strong for her or her anxiousness became overwhelming.

Satisfied, she would then make her way towards the wardrobe, only to be rather stunned by the outfits that she came face to face with as she opened it. Dark red uniforms that caused the self conscious lunar mage to instantly feel insecure about herself again. She was almost speechless and taking the first one she could reach from the hanger, she would show it to her friend, “What. Is. This?” It was definitely not her usual garb and the thought of wearing such a thing made her almost quiver herself although she just about managed to hold herself together.

Curses! (Intro/Kalama/Open) Empty Re: Curses! (Intro/Kalama/Open)

Post by Aoi 14th March 2020, 10:44 am

Right out of the gate, the words that were spoken to her carried the emotion that she knew was meant for her. Though Kalama couldn’t bare much emotion at all thanks to her curse, Aoi knew her well enough to be able to tack on the emotion for her when she couldn’t do it herself. It wasn’t a perfect science either. Sometimes she was wrong in how she interpreted some of the things to mean one way when they were meant others, however sentiment wasn’t a verbal emotion that was hard to miss at all. And while her eyes had not been able to look to her friend in the moment of her feeling a bit ashamed as well as afraid, they had shown a big of calm to them.

Words that came from the lunar mages mouth had been sounding like a broken record of herself. The hopes of what possibly joining the right place could mean for them. She should be excited and overjoyed to have gotten both of them accepted, but here she was wallowing in almost regretting taking the trip to come here. Still, it was a hard thing for her to swallow hearing that she’d rather have less control and continue to keep her emotions in tact than to feel what she could chalk up to be an emotionally numb being. ”I-I don’t know about that, Kal... You still have a much better grasp than I do. Some nights I fear falling asleep and never waking up the same way. Lately more than ever...” While not as depressed and stricken with fear as she was a moment ago, her soft volumed tone of voice was more than she could bare to say in public right now.

When the door to the room opened, the cursed brunette popped her head just as Kalama took her walk into it. She was a bit surprised, but found the room to be really nice overall. Definitely better than most of the hotels they stayed in for sure. One of the first things she watched her friend do was approach the window and look out. It was intriguing to watch for sure, but as she doin stepped in too and shut the door, she couldn’t help but look on and watch her friend looking over everything. It was in the moment of silence that she could feel the curse was beginning to pick up. Her hands were beginning to tremble and within minutes, she’d start to get more and more ill tempered, for a lack of a better term.

Then she went to the closet. Almost having forgotten that they were to wear uniforms in representation of the guild, Aoi had smiled seeing them and even gave a bit of a girly gasp. ”Oh my gosh! Those are cuter than ol’ uncle Sal’s piglets!~ Especially the pleated skirt look!” She replied, giggling and skipping over, inspecting them back and forth then looking up and over her friend. ”You would look so great in them, Kally! Maybe toss yer hair up in a cute bun and y’all would look like a real authoritarian! Like a gender bent Johann!” The sudden imagery made her break out in laughter for a moment, even to bring a tear to her eye. It wasn’t meant as a jab at either or anything, but considering their similarities so far, it was a decent comparison. ”But really, girlfriend. I think y’all fit the look really nicely! Def try out that look!” Aoi giggled excitedly, now ready to go jump into her own uniform as well.

”I-I gotta put this back in soon or I gon’ end up starting to lose it. Is there anything else y’all wanted to quickly chat about before I go hit the hay?” By now, the bodily shaking from her trying to hold back the curse’s effects were showing, but the practice of it let her go for a few minutes at a time if she were lucky, so she could hold out for another moment or two.

Curses! (Intro/Kalama/Open) Empty Re: Curses! (Intro/Kalama/Open)

Post by Guest 14th March 2020, 12:41 pm

Realising it was probably for the best not to push any further with the unhappy talk, Kalama did not reply to her friends rather depressing reply. It was just the opposite for the fair haired mage. She went to sleep wishing to god that she would wake up different, back to who she once was or at least a little more human than the spectre that she saw in the mirror. She had meant every word regarding her wish to have been in Aoi’s position because at least then, the golden eyed mage could at least think of the curse properly as an enemy or something. As it was, she just felt indifferent. Shaking her head, the lunar mage would try to push her darker thoughts aside and did her utmost to focus on the brighter side of things. Today had been the brightest day for either of them and that was something positive at least.

Fortunately, her friend seemed to briefly perk up as Kalama revealed their uniform to her although the comments that came out of Aoi’s mouth soon caused Kalama to close her eyes briefly and take a breath. The image that the brunette described momentarily appeared in the lunar mage’s mind as well, which left her absolutely lost for words. She had no idea how her friend came up with this stuff sometimes and the temptation to stick her mouth guard back in right there and then was sorely tempting. In the end though, she simply thought about it for a moment and answered, “Thank you for that wonderful mental image, Aoi. I appreciate it so much.” Oh, how she longed for her old sarcastic tone at that moment. A tone that could deal more damage than a sword to the face. “I will remember to mention that to the Ambassador, the next time I see him.” She mused that it was probably a compliment in truth but Aoi had such a bizarre way with words that it was difficult to tell. Her mouth had no filter once the guard was out and considering how long it had been out for, Kalama probably should have expected that kind of comment. In regard to the outfit itself, she gave it a wary eye, before turning to her friend again, “You honestly think so?” she asked, not fully believing at all what she was hearing.

The sudden quivering of Aoi’s voice caused Kalama to turn her head rather sharply in her friends direction, recognising the signs of what was happening to the brunette. In answer to her question, the fair haired mage just shook her head quietly, walking over towards Aoi, “No, it is alright. You have had the guard out for far too long. Put it back in and get some rest. I have no idea how busy we are going to be once we get settled but I think we could both do with a few hours sleep regardless.” The lunar mage was starting to feel the effects of the long day herself, given the bumpy boat ride and the mentally exhausting introduction. She needed time to meditate and think about the events of the day although perhaps a raiding of the tea supplies would be in order first.

After a moment or two, she added, “If you have trouble sleeping, you know that you can always come in here, OK?” It was as genuine an offer as it could possibly have been. With any luck, the effects of their curses would not cause any issues for their new guild mates but Kalama, as cautious as she was, could not help but consider the possibility anyway. This was all so new for the pair of them and the lunar mage had no idea what was going to happen.

Curses! (Intro/Kalama/Open) Empty Re: Curses! (Intro/Kalama/Open)

Post by Aoi 14th March 2020, 1:28 pm

The brunette woman just began to laugh a little harder and louder as her friend brought about her sarcastic line. Not to mention the thought of bringing it up nearly had her collapsed on the ground crying from all the laughter of this one thought. At this point she was just holding her sides from bursting at the seams, slowly pulling herself back together. Wiping her eyes and face clear of tears while she fully controlled herself had been an enlightening feeling. Despite all that was going on, she still felt like Kal could bring her out of her own depressing mood even on the lunar mage wasn’t so happy over her own. If at all, she hoped that over this time spent cursed together, she was able to provide her with at least a little bit of joy. Something.

”Y’all act like I ain’t gonna tell him myself.” She easily confessed, not even to sound ashamed, embarrassed, or even worried over telling the ambassador what the issue was at all. But then, Kalama has turned to the serious wonder of her comments. Did she mean it? A bright, close eyed smile appeared on Aoi’s face, giggling even. ”Of course I mean it! You know when it comes to fashion, I‘ve always been truthful with it! Like when we were kids and them girls would pick on y’all for wearing shorts instead of skirts like other girls —Well, that was after the mighty fine ass whipping’ y’all dun put on them. Wearin’ kimono’s and such surely put them there to shame. It’s all in the confidence y’all have to believe you can look good in anything. and sometimes it just takes a friend to help you remember that.”

Growing up on a farm, outside of the work she put into the land, she hadn’t had much else to do in terms of hobbies. However, the child in her privied the notion that going into town covered in dirt and sweat didn’t help sell anything and that being presentable was a good way to show you took pride in your work, but also in yourself. It stuck to her, and taking some of the money she made, she began to collect and experiment with designs with clothes. Months and years went by of trends and experiments of her own until she had been rather content in her choices as the looks of others had her selling crops so much that she had taken the ideas too far in how she talked with others. Sometimes it worked, others it hadn’t. But, no matter what, she held her manners where they were meant to and being a part of a guild was going to help her relearn those.

Those comforting words of assurance put the smile on her face, pushing through the worry of her curse. She should have expected to hear it, but she hadn’t. Every time an endearing quality of the lunar mage was spoken to the brunette, it was special for her. One of the only people who she wasn’t related to that took to putting up with her all this time when others she’d chased away with her personality or by the curse made it feel that much more thankful. ”And y’all can the same if that curse of yours starts to bug you again. And... thanks again for believing in me. You know I’d never let you jump if I wasn’t ready to take it myself.” With a small smile and a wink, the cursed bumpkin would exit her friends room, walking right next door to her own and entering. Climbing right into the bed, the comfort of a fresh mattress and sheets knocked her lights out within moments, thankfully enough time after her guard went in to help her alleviate the curses progression.

These two girls were rocks for one another in this time of need, but they didn’t have to bare it alone any longer. They had a family now and the burden of their journey was now more than just revenge or finding answers. The longevity of their curse could become their best blessing in time. Or if the worst happened, at least they would know they were stopped before they could hurt innocent people.
