    Job Info:

Caelestis had been right, in the end. The man hadn’t followed him, and for that he was grateful, but the trail of undead had lead him to a large, abandoned city. It wasn’t some isolated incident like he’d hoped, and at this point he was starting to get annoyed. This wasn’t even a treasure hunt, just a mystery! But he had to continue on. He’d found the graveyard keeper in no time, and after hearing his story, reluctantly decided to keep on the path of getting to the bottom of this mystery. After all, if he didn’t, who else would? Certainly not the man who had irritated him for the entire first part of this little adventure.

Now, he had a trail to follow.

The city was eerily silent as he walked, almost nothing except the noises he made could be heard. And that didn’t sit right with him, the smell of rot and the utter silence putting him on high alert. He was almost positive that something was going to jump out to attack him at any moment, all of his senses straining to find the source of the increasingly bad feeling he had. He couldn’t say he was easily spooked, but this whole thing set any anxiety he might have buried within himself on edge. Everything felt so much more intense right now, even the clicking of his shoes on the pavement was loud enough to make him wince. What was this? Some kind of effect from the curse over this place?

He was almost distracted enough to miss the trail ending, but even Caelestis in a distracted state wouldn’t miss the smell of rot coming from the graveyard in front of him. Wrinkling his nose, he pushed the gate to the place open, ignoring the metallic screech of the hinges. The place as a whole wasn’t anything special for a cemetery, but it was big, and practically alive with sound compared to the city. Oh, the irony. A snort escaping him, the young mage looked around, noting figures stumbling around in the distance he could only assume were the recently turned city dwellers.

However, that wasn’t what ended up truly catching his attention, as his next breath turned into a familiar roar, shades having come at him from many angles. The roar was truly deafening in the already quite noisy graveyard, no doubt giving away the slayer’s position. Somehow he couldn’t bring himself to care. These zombies weren’t much stronger than the ones at the cabin, and he’d dealt with those easily enough, hadn’t he? He hardly even bothered to check that he’d banished the spirits, knowing full well his roar would be more than enough for this first small wave of ghosts. How odd that the first things to come at him were ghosts, though. Surely they can’t have been ghosts of the infected, right? The infected would have been turned when they died, or so he hoped, at least.

Further into the graveyard, then. The first set of spirits vanquished, the young mage moved on, heading towards the blurry figures he could see in the distance. These ones didn’t seem any stronger, but he knew instinctively that they couldn’t be anything but more infected. His suspicions were confirmed the closer he got, the shuffling gait and horrible smell that emanated from them enough of a confirmation. He probably didn’t even have to do much of anything here, but sucked in a huge breath of air as he approached the group regardless.

All the air was expelled from his lungs in a single, echoing roar which would no doubt draw out more infected. The burst was powerful, probably too much so, as bits of rotting flesh rocketed in all directions, propelled by the blast. Wrinkling his nose in distaste, the slayer delicately stepped through the carnage, blatantly covering his nose with his little shoulder cape now. By Dvalin, why did he have to end up on such a stinky quest?

Caelestis had just made it through the last of the carnage when he heard something large coming his way. The footsteps were large and heavy, enough that he could almost feel the ground shake. These dead were endless! How many more could possibly be in this cemetery? He really hated having to deal with all these zombies. But in the end, it was far too late to simply back out. He had to fight them, he had no choice.

Sighing, he readied another spell, the magic flowing from his fingertips as he waited. Each step closer had him stiff with anticipation, ready to move the moment the creature showed itself. And show itself it did. A horrific being, nearly twice Cael’s size and looking like Frankenstein’s monster, became visible over the tops of the gravestones as he watched in the direction of the sounds. Now this was getting interesting! Such a brute of an enemy to deal with, he might actually have to expend some effort here.

With that in mind, he decided another spell besides the roar was best. The roar didn’t quite have the range necessary, and wouldn’t blow back something so big like it would a normal enemy. Instead, gale-force winds launched from his fingertips to blast at the hulking zombie. It wasn’t quite as strong as his roar, but had a comparatively large range. Watching the wind strike, the boy readied yet another spell.

The next spell he fired off was a burst of greenish tinted wind, glowing ominously as it smacked the massive undead. The hulking creature shook the ground as it fell, though it wasn’t quite dead yet- there was still more for Caelestis to do. This time, arrows made of wind were formed as the creature stood once more, an enraged sort of roar spilling from it’s rotted mouth. They were fired off one by one, the homing effect ensuring that they struck their target. Once again, the brute fell, but it wouldn’t get back up again this time.

This was the loudest fight yet, and Caelestis wasn’t planning on sticking around. As large as the cemetery was, it was sure that there were more enemies nearby yet- and he didn’t want to fight them all at once. Really, that fight was so loud he may as well have rung a dinner bell for all the nasty things waiting for him in the graveyard. Jobs like this were why he preferred to stick to treasure hunting, there were less gross things to deal with.

It was too late for him to truly escape, though, because in the next moment, another enemy was upon him. He seemed practically alive compared to the various shades and decomposing corpses he’d faced thus far, his expression lucid enough to make Caelestis raise a brow. Was this one sentient, then? He certainly seemed so, approaching Cael in a deliberate manner. Each step was purposeful, though his eyes seemed alight with a type of madness that sent a shudder down his spine. He wasn’t really afraid, but it was certainly rather creepy and more than a little gross at this stage.

“You! You are interfering in master’s plans! Oh no, we can’t have that, can we? I’m afraid I’ll have to kill you now, you see. Don’t fret, though- your corpse will make a lovely edition to our undead!”

Now Caelestis had to roll his eyes. Definitely some kind of crazy, and definitely creepy enough to make him wary, though not afraid. Never afraid, not with that movie villain style monologue and wardrobe. He didn’t have time to ponder on it though, because the man was already charging with grotesquely mutilated hands-turned-claws. From here, Caelestis was easily able to use his wind to his advantage once more, the same earthshaking roar that he had already used on many of these zombies more than enough to push the man back, though not enough to kill him. He was likely tougher than the zombie brute that Cael had just fought.
