Eyir didn't really understand the whole Halloween celebration that stirred up grand excitement among the people of Earthland. She didn't understand many of the holidays. Their purpose she guessed was to just have fun gatherings at certain points of the year. But there were other gatherings too that she noticed. Birthdays, BBQs, anniversaries (which seemed to vary on type and date depending on the people involved), etc. What made the Halloween one so special that it took place in every town and city? Why did people dress up in costume? It was confusing and her thoughts were completely blank on the subject. Maybe if she knew the history of the day and how it evolved she'd understand more, but she didn't feel like asking. She preferred just experiencing the events around her and learning from that.

So, there the spirit was. Hovering around Magnolia aimlessly and filled with a curiosity that could only go away after she had completely explored the entirety of the festival grounds. It wasn't her first time in the town, having participated in last year's Halloween event there as well. Nothing besides the annual festival ever managed to take her there though so she wasn't sure what it looked like without the themed colors and decorations. A great shame really. It was an amazing town in her opinion. Then again, all towns and cities would have been labeled as amazing for the simple fact that she had resided in Iceberg for her entire existence, as far as she could remember anyway. Anything was going to be much more lively and shiny when it wasn't surrounded by a frozen wasteland. Of course, Iceberg did have its beauty and uniqueness as well that could be appreciated, but seeing and experiencing the differences in lifestyles and scenery was an obvious wave that Eyir enjoyed riding.

Everyone was dressed as something they were not. That seemed to be the normal custom on that particular festival. Eyir had learned that much the last time. She too would participate. Her normal ghostly visage would have blended in with the rest of the typical themes but she already was that sort of creature. It made sense for her to look like something different. Last year she went with an illusion that turned her normal form into one covered with pink flowers in order to represent her guild. As close as she could get it to be in either case. The current year she wanted to go a bit further with her participation. People liked scary things that time of year for whatever reason that was beyond her own comprehension. Ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and whatever else was considered to be supernatural or outside the norm for the typical average town citizen that never got out in the world to see these creatures. To Eyir, they were common forms of existence so it seemed strange that people would dress as them for one day only. If she didn't know any better she would have considered it as a type of worship.

Regardless of why they all chose the costumes they wore, Eyir had her own reasons. She went with something that was darker than her own existence or considered as such by many. A sort of demonic version of herself. She supposed this could represent a sort of fear within herself, and perhaps also be considered good enough to scare others. Like the year prior, the angelic spirit was using a sort of illusion spell that a mage had given her. The same mage actually. They had done such a nice job before and Eyir didn't know of any others that could do the same thing. She thought she looked the part.

With the illusion in place, there was no sign of her usual holy and angelic features. Her color scheme had shifted from light holy tones to that of red and black shades. More spikes covered the armor, which too had been completely altered. The illusion had given her a rare blue skin that showed in various places. More of it likely needed to be covered to be more decent but Eyir didn't quite notice or give it much thought. Her wings had transformed into a fiery red mist and from her hood long curved horns had developed and poked through the darkness of her face that still remained.

Still Looking For The Tricks To Go With The Treats Empty Re: Still Looking For The Tricks To Go With The Treats

There was confidence in her that she blended in with the theme just fine. Many people in the crowd had stopped to look her way and stare so that must have meant that they were impressed with the illusion. Or maybe they were just confused about the way she moved by seemingly gliding through the air a few inches off the ground instead of walking on the ground like them. She didn't ask or respond to the comments. Social interaction wasn't her forte even if she enjoyed watching others entertain each other through conversation. Besides, she had a goal that night. One more important than just blending in with a "scary" costume.

The idea of Halloween was something about tricks and treats. Or was it trick or treat? It wasn't very clear. Last year, Eyir spent the entirety of the event getting all the treats. She had found not a single trick. It felt as if she had experienced only half of the holiday tradition because of that. That was simply unacceptable. Surely there'd be a trick around there somewhere with the new annual festival. And at first, she thought she had found a simple trick.

What she considered a trick was just a game. The complaints of the losers were what led her to it. They had specified being tricked. Although, they didn't seem to be happy about it or had fun. Strange. Wasn't that part of the whole day? Curious, Eyir floated her way toward the front of the game, which comprised of just one simple table with three small coffins on its surface. The table was surrounded by some others, both participants of the game, former and new, as well as some that had gathered around to watch. Eyir shifted her wings inward to avoid touching others as she got even closer to get a better look.

A man dressed as a magician grinned as he lifted up the small coffins one by one. Underneath one was a small piece of candy. "This is the one to keep an eye on now. You ready?" The mummy-dressed player nodded and stared hard at the coffins, determined to win and not lose sight of the right coffin. "Here goes!" The event volunteer then went to work moving the small coffins all around, slowly at first, then sped up drastically. Eventually, he took his hands off of them and they proceeded to move magically on their own. Then they immediately paused.

The mummy pointed to the one in the middle. "Too easy. That's the one!"

Laughing softly, the magician eyed the mummy. "Are you sure?" He asked, testing the confidence in the other guy's choice.

"I'm telling you that's the one. I didn't take my eyes off of it!"

"Let's see about that." The coffin raised itself, revealing not a piece of candy but a small skull token. "Oh sorry! Looks like you lost this time. At least you get one of our prized tokens. Want to try again?" The answer was a disappointed and almost angry "no". The mummy man had been so sure that he was right, but Eyir had been watching. She knew the wrong one had been picked. It wasn't so much of a trick as it was just guessing wrong. That wasn't really what she was looking for but she supposed it was... close enough? Hopefully, she'd find something better later. For now, she wanted to give the game a try.

The magician reset the coffins and looked around for a new player. "Anyone else want to try?"

At that question, Eyir forced herself through the other people that stood in the way so she could take her place directly in front of the center of the table. "I will," she said softly. The gentle chimes of her voice had also been replaced with the illusion as she had just found out. Instead of being relaxing enough to put someone to sleep her voice came out deep and raspy like it truly belonged to the demonic entity she was costumed as. It was different to her and a bit surprising at first, but the reaction came more from the magician and the others around, who acted creeped out by it.

"Whoa, is that a fake voice for the costume? Sounds very real." Surely he wasn't in the presence of an actual demon. It had to be fake. He probably would have been just as surprised at finding out the being before him was nothing more than a simple soul in spirit form that still roamed the lands. At this fact Eyir chose not to answer, instead tapping on the coffin expectantly.

"Right, right!" The magician raised the coffins. Like before two were empty and one had the piece of candy hidden away underneath. "Here we go! Keep an eye on the right one!" The coffins began to move like before, first with the help of the magician and then without. Then, they stopped.

Eyir had been staring hard at the coffins, focusing enough to ensure that she did not lose the targeted tiny coffin in the mix. At the request of the volunteer to pick a coffin Eyir did so. Reaching out, she tapped the coffin on the left. A simple nod was the only reply she gave when asked if she was sure. Being uncertain about choice wasn't a trait of hers.

"Let's see what we got underneath coffin number one!" The magician raised it and to his surprise, someone had actually won. No one had done that for over an hour! "We have a winner!" He shouted excitedly, taking the piece of candy and handing that, as well as a skull token, to Eyir. "Here you go! Enjoy your candy!"

Eyir stepped away from the game to allow others to play.  She had won and her prize? Another treat that she just couldn't eat. At least she also got one of the skull tokens. That was a nice little trinket.

Still Looking For The Tricks To Go With The Treats Empty Re: Still Looking For The Tricks To Go With The Treats

Post by Eyir 19th November 2022, 2:56 am

It was time to locate another activity that interested Eyir enough for her to participate. There was some kind of "witch's brew" that was popular among the rest of the crowd but the spirit avoided it. It was a sort of magical drink from what she heard and unfortunately, drinks were not something she could enjoy in her current state of existence. Too bad. There was a trick she had been looking for. Instead of finding it, the spirit turned away very much uninterested. This choice led her down a path that took her to another kind of game.

It seemed... violent. From watching others, it seemed as if the purpose was to needlessly whack the gameboard of disappearing zombie heads with a weapon. That was it. She was drawn to it still, her spirit taking her there until the next thing she knew she was holding one of the rubber mallets. Eyir hesitated, just staring at the mallet and then the game board a few steps further up. What an odd game. Yes, the zombie heads looked disgusting and were clearly designed to fit the stereotype of the evil walking undead and ghoulish creatures. So it wasn't as if it was a violent game where you were hitting representations of something cute and good-natured. It still seemed like it was a bit out of her style though. She was a healer and not like the more aggressive mages and other beings with those capabilities.

"Oh come on. Hurry up and get up there! It's not like they're going to bite!" The event volunteer told her in an impatient tone. The huge werewolf-dressed man gave her a push towards the game board and left her there. Eyir didn't say anything or react beyond just staring down at the game, watching the zombies pop up and down. They were slow at the start but all of them were misses because she had just been standing there doing nothing. Then, finally deciding within herself to attempt playing the game, she raised the mallet and tapped one of the fake ghouls. There was the sound effect of a zombie groan as it disappeared down below, indicating that she had scored a point. It actually wasn't so bad.

Feeling more eager to play the game, Eyir repeated the action on another zombie head. Then again. And again. They got faster with time to increase the difficulty. Eyir continued to take her time, tapping away at whichever zombie she spotted. She had missed quite a few due to the differences in speed between her and the game but she was surprisingly still decent at the game. She had more hits than misses still even if she wasn't the best. For her participation, the angry werewolf gave her a skull token to add to her growing collection.

The Skull Token collection would quickly grow by one more within a short time. With zero effort on her part. The games had been left behind and now Eyir had been attracted to something else. The sounds of music. Earlier she had ignored it. Even with the crowd around her, she could still hear the loud beats and instruments that did not amuse her. How anyone tolerated such noise was a mystery but many seemed to enjoy it. Now though the music genre had switched just like the artists on the stage had switched. It was more gentle. Creepy still to fit the theme but with much softer notes and sounds. Eyir preferred the quieter instruments and the slower pace, and so she was drawn to it.

The sounds lured her all the way to the activity A Little Night Music. Rather than get right in the crowd of chatters and other sorts of audiences Eyir stood to the side, yet still close enough so she could listen and watch as the performer played masterfully on their instrument. It was a long piece that seemed to go on forever, but she didn't mind that. She was entertained and content to remain there for a while before returning to the games and other activities. There had been just one interruption and that was the point she had received her third skull token, having been given by an event volunteer who had been going around passing them out to everyone in the music area. She remained a little longer to see what other music would be played, but after a few more music pieces she had gotten bored. The music quality declined when it switched genres again. That left her with no choice but to see what else the festival had going on. It was just as well. There were obviously no tricks to be had there anyway.
