Odhran took a sip of his slushie. "You read the dossier, right?"

Arnaluuk sighed. "She's way more focused than you, Odhran."

He shrugged, tossing the plastic cup into the river he was currently standing in, even though it soaked the bottom cuffs of his pants and ruined his shoes. "Nonsense. I just have many busy things to do. Anyways, we're supposed to like, abduct a village or something?"

She sighed. "Somewhat. Just the children and some of the women. Anarchist group, wants to take down the royal family."

"Pfft. Good luck, weird group. Let me tell you, starting a revolution is way more difficult. Remember when I tried to overthrow the government in Sin for Elysium? Way more work than it was worth. Let's just move in. No time to waste and all that."

As he walked out of the river, Arnaluuk sighed and whispered to their fellow guildmate, who Odhran barely paid attention to. "I really do apologize about him. And he wonders why people don't listen to him." She tapped the ground beside her, a small bridge of ice forming across the river for the two of them to walk easily - and, more importantly, dryly - across the river. "That said, I do appreciate your assistance in this mission. Having people who he can't just close the gate for to assist in a mission with specific parameters is useful. Plus the diplomacy in Hargeon... well, let's just say that it's a long road ahead." She gave a small smile at the girl. "Do you have any questions about the mission ahead?"

Before an answer could be given, Odhran began casually walking towards them. "Gladiia? I'm going to have to ask a favor of you. I may have angered the townsfolk, and they may be coming after me. To make a long story short, this is a good point in time to see what your capabilities are. They're a bunch of small fries, should be easy to kill." He waved his hand, a deck chair and yet another slushie showing up in his hand, and he took a seat. "Who knows? Maybe you can get some special boons from me. I think I have a few extra boxes of cotton balls somewhere back at the Inn, I could definitely part with them..." He waved his hand once more. "Let the battle begin! Oh, and if you need help, just call out. I'll get Arnaluuk to help you out." The ice witch sighed and shook her head, nonetheless staying back and out of combat until Odhran's order.

Gladiia did not expect to start her day with the message sent to her room. A formal notice to join in on a job with the guild master himself. She wondered what the reason could be for him to call on her. Though as she walked through the guild halls she conceded that it might be because she was one of the few members remaining. The departure was quick and damaging as a hammer being ripped out of a torso, most of the heavy hitters, no, most members, had left the guild for another. Which was problematic, Plumed serpent had started a bitter war that both sides were looking to repay in kind for, and no longer had the manpower to deflect a attack if it came their way. Ah well, such a issue will be addressed later.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The mission at hand had brought them out to near a river, trees stretching out on both sides as a small path lead deeper inward to the woods. Said river didn't seem to have a bridge to cross over, which didn't stop her illustrious guildmaster from crossing anyways. Gladiia was planning onto simpily float across, but her guildmate Amaluuk created a ice bridge for them to cross. Gladiia admittedly was unsure on what to think about calling a celestial spirit a guild mate. Most summons she had seen before were either small demons or larger abominations, both categories being too mindless to be considered sentient. However with meeting Amaluuk and her own studying into the art of summoning, she was beginning to see more of a spectrum. In any case, she would had treated the spirit the same respect she treated most, it helped that she certainly had more awareness then her...master? Partner? Their were some terms she still was unfamiliar with.

Gladiia was listening to the spirit carefully, acknowledging with polite nods and small smiles when appropriate. Gladiia was going to ask where they were before her leader came up to the two of them. And Gladiia had to hide the surprise from his, "Request." To test her worth was such a bold statement she couldn't decided if she should call him brave or ignorant, as if he was unaware of the state of things. Still, she acquiesced with a nod, only furrowing her brow at his idea of a boon. "They shall be dealt with ser."

She turned her head to a signature of a magical presence, it was coming from the dirt path. Sure enough, coming down it were a group of men. Judging from their outfits, hats, pitchforks, torches(in the middle of the day???), they were farmers who were coming to pay Odhran a piece of their minds. With her lance in hand, she simply walked forward until she stopped a few meters away from them where they also stopped.

    "Whose yous?!"

"She be evil that what she be! Look at her eyes!"

"You...gentlemen, have a reason to come bothering us?" Gladiia would had asked aloud to the group, which one responded.

"Yeah! I've seen the papers! I knows that brat over yonder's a wanted! And if he's here he tryin somethin funny! Well we ain't gonna take it!"

The crowd roared and howled their own echoes of the statement, but before any could make another step they would see Gladiia close the distance. Her arm seemed to become coated with a faint aura of scales before it lashed out quickly, so quick in fact that the air shook from the force. After she was done, the crowd was left silent before parts of them began to fall off. Where they fell apart was at crucial weak points; necks, Achilles tendons, heads, hearts, each one who died didn't have enough time to even register what had happened. As the last one fell she coated the blade of her lance with steam, causing the blood to disappear from it as it became clean once more. She would turn her head over to the sitting Odhran. "The...trouble has been dealt w-" A sudden noise of popping and white clouds emerging would stop Gladiia's speech, she quickly making a hasty retreat by becoming the wind. Now a safer distance, the once corpses of the men on the path were gone leaving it the same as before. So to had the magic signature disappeared.

After looking around to ensure their was no sign of anything out of the ordinary, she would had walked back to where her two guildmates were spectating. "Ser, I have to ask where you went to prior and who you managed to anger, because they may be more then just common farmers."

Odhran watched somewhat intently as his guildmate easily dispatched of the people, preparing to make her report as the corpses vanished from view in a puff of smoke. "That was...decently well done, I suppose," he said with a yawn. "I mean, I could've done better, but there's a reason I wanted you to do it."

"It's because you didn't want to be bothered."

"N-No! I wanted to see that the people of Plumed Serpent were adequate soldiers! No, more than adequate, the best of the best! Now, as for these people..." He stood up, the deck chair vanishing beneath him as he did. "There's a reason I've picked this town for our mission. Basically, there's a few... dozen, maybe, I don't really know, I didn't pay attention. Anyways, there's some people that were around from my time back in Elysium, some dudes who were hanging out in Sin that decided to wander over to Fiore, I guess because they're just enamored by me. One of them had some access to something that made this place a hotspot for mana, and that's especially potent in children. Now everyone in this town is super magical, the children have immense potential that we can easily exploit, and there's a bunch of mages standing around that are more than willing to try to kick my ass because when they first got over here from Sin, I tried recruiting their leaders to Plumed Serpent and they said something like 'You're an insane megalomaniac that wants nothing but absolute power in the world, there's no way in hell I would follow a madman like you. In fact, the world would be best off if you died.' I then killed said leader and made a strategic retreat, and now there's a bunch more of them and they're angry and prepared for us." He shrugged. "Honestly, if you think about it, we're in the right. They've probably brainwashed the entire village, we're just here for the children. Honestly, we're doing a favor to the world. Because of that, I want to make sure people don't get the wrong idea and think we're good guys or that we're just doing this for charity, so I've also got a plan to rob the village of their valuables, commit some unnecessary murders, vandalize their property, and burn a good chunk of the town to the ground. The stuff we don't vandalize, I should specify. How will they know we did some graffiti if we blow up the stuff that we spray painted?"

He continued walking forwards, even as a few villagers and mages poked their heads out from the rooftops, firing guns and arrows and magic at the Guildmaster in a large, combined barrage. Odhran, however, kept walking nonchalantly, even as all of the attacks seemed to hit him in a massive puff of smoke and dust, rising easily to the sky, the same pops and white smoke coming in soon after, seemingly at the directive of a short man with a large, pink beard. After a half minute of this attack, where if Gladiia attempted to make a move forwards, Arnaluuk would have stopped her advance, the dust settled and Odhran stood, his hands in his pockets as the massive visage of the Hallow's Phantom, its spectral head some twenty feet above the ground, glared at the town.

"I would've thought you'd do your homework," Odhran said as he took his right hand out. "Especially when you saw what I did to the last guy. Still, you didn't consider, for even a moment, that I would have gotten stronger?" He pointed a finger gun in the general direction of the town. "People as dumb as you deserve to die, I think."

As he lowered his thumb to fire an actual laser out of it, piercing right through a man throwing rocks as his contribution, Hallow's Phantom's eyes glowed an icy blue and massive lasers fired out of them, coating the buildings in ice, freezing many of the attackers in place. After one more step forwards from Odhran, a red laser fired, exploding the buildings in pillars of smoke. The pink bearded man rush forwards, white smoke popping around Odhran, who merely sidestepped him when he arrived, the Hallow's Phantom's arm swinging down and splattering the man into a paste against the ground.

"He wasn't the one responsible for getting rid of those other bodies," Odhran casually said as the white smoke continued, making even the bearded man's body dissipate. "There's still more in the town. Do with them what you please, Gladiia."

The Best Kind of Soldiers Empty Re: The Best Kind of Soldiers

Post by Gladiia Stralken 8th May 2022, 5:29 pm

Gladiia was very fortunate that she had a career where masking your expressions was valuable and gave lot's of opportunities to practice, because she would had not been able to hide her confusion otherwise. It wasn't she misunderstood her leader's orders, but just his over all demeanor. Here he chose a target that apparently he had prior dealings with who had access to influence a whole village's magic and decided to choose them to fight. It wasn't the worst idea, but his casualness about the whole thing made her question his reasoning. As they approached the entrance to the village he filled her in more details about what he wanted to do, proving that he may have been insane. Gladiia wasn't naïve, she knew what extents she would have to go to gain the power she sought, and that it would take her to some dark places. But the fact he addressed it so casually like vandalizing a store...well what other mind could had organized such a guild?

Gladiia spotted the people beginning to emerge from the huts and homes around, causing her to stop in her tracks. Arnaluuk also stopped near her but Odhran kept walking forward. Gladiia watched as they began a variety attacks onto her guildmaster, and she prepared herself to move forward to at least deter some of the attackers when a outstretched hand stopped her. Looking at Arnaluuk confused, she stayed in place as soon Odhran disappeared in a barrage of attacks, smoke and dust rising to the sky from the ferocity of it all. However she did not detect his signature to waver or disappear, so it was no surprise to see him after it had all cleared. What was surprising though was the giant skeleton now behind him. "Is that really a summon?" she would had muttered to herself, watching how after he scolded the group he and the bone monstrosity let loose lasers tearing and ripping through the former defense. Odhran would had finished his display of destruction with a simple side step and splattering the organizer of the initial attack.

After correctly assuming that those were more of the same conjurations of before, he gave Gladiia leeway to do what she wanted with the rest of the town. Another test, or laziness? "As you wish ser." Before moving past him to continue the assault on the town she would had etched into the air a summoning symbol, first a circle followed with three triangles on the top and bottom of it, resembling a open fanged mouth. From it a portal would open, and in front of it would materialize her summon Amoux. Standing a whole foot taller then Gladiia, he would had looked at her first, then Arnaluuk, Odhran, and the giant skeleton behind him. "What in the name of the serpent have you dragged me into this time Gladiia?"

"Hush Amoux, were destroying some defenders of this village at our client's request." She would had responded, ensuring he knew the client in question was Odhran.

"And he can't manage that with the giant fuck off skeleton behind him?"

"Forgive me, I have forgotten how menacing a group of illiterate smelly villagers can be for you."

"Tch! Lets get this over with." Having his sore spot poked at, he would had walked forward, hand on his greatsword while the other on a parrying dagger underneath his cloak. Gladiia would had looked back at the two with a apologetic expression before she herself moved forward, wary of what awaited her as she had her lance at the ready. It wouldn't have taken long for them to find resistance, one of the huts opened up with a large barreled gun as it fired a cannonball of all things at the two. Both of them jumped in different directions avoiding the shot that exploded with...beartraps? Unfortunately for Amoux he chose to dodge in their sight as soon a hail of arrows and magical bolts erupted from the windows of the home. While he was trying to avoid be turned into a minstrel cheese, Gladiia would had snuck up on the house. Finding a unoccupied window, she would had breathed out a scalding steam cloud into the house. The attacks would stop, and screams would begin to be heard as the inhabitants would no doubt begun to succumb to the heat.

"Steamed eh? I prefer over a fire myself." Amoux would had chimed as the two looked around. "Before I forget, we want to scavenge for loot from the village, so don't try to destroy more then you have to." Amoux nodded at Gladiia's request as the house behind them suddenly erupted in a huge fireball, smoke rising to the sky. "I thought you said-" "I didn't intend for that!" Both would had suddenly sensed another presence as they turned around to face a cloaked figure with a wooden mask, rolling eyes and a long stick nose. A puppet clearly, it moved and jerked around like one, though the power radiating from it told Gladiia it was powerful. "Oh no! Run everyone! The plumed serpent has come to take our women and pillage our homes! kekekekekekeke." It would had suddenly lunged from the hut to the empty street where it faced the two plumed serpent members. "Honestly how disappointing! Only two members to assault us? Where's the respect? Especially when its smelly Odhran and some B-rank bitch. Seriously, did you think it would be enough? Mmmm, we'll run you over, then teach Odhran to respect his elders."

The puppet would had opened the cloak to reveal a pitch black abyss. From it, creatures of hellish appearances came out, no doubt gathered from the wasteland's of Sin. The came out in waves of flesh and pus to assault the duo, who answered with silence as they brought out their weapons. The first wave would had came crashing down as soon fire would rise to the sky, both Gladiia and Amoux began launching lashes of fire at their foes keeping them at bay. The survivors scattered and began to circle around as the second wave came pouring out, this time fliers shot out globs of poison and blood at the duo. Peppered from the assault, the two scattered as they were met with the survivors now corralling them into the firing area. Gladiia would put a stop to that as with a swing of her lance, a twister would had formed in front of her before colliding with the fliers grounding them. Now vulnerable, the duo cleaned up the remainder of the monsters, before Gladiia glared at the puppet with animosity. The puppet was slack jawed as it stay afloat, ruffling it's cape as if trying to shake out any foes it had for them. "Well, I guess we should take you seriously, kekekeke-" a sudden burst of fire from Gladiia would had burned the wooden puppet, stopping it's annoying laughter.

She sighed as she examined the destruction that the two would had weaved, the nearby buildings were on fire as the smell of gunpowder was heavy in the air. Gunpowder? Gladiia's nose had picked up the scent of the stuff and not burnt flesh. Too late she realized the trap as it appeared before her, the puppet and piles of monsters soon disappeared to reveal fuses that had been lit, leading to the homes around them. Gladiia would had not been able to outrun the resulting explosion, as far as she knew the whole damn town might have been rigged to explode. Which begged the question, had they been led into a trap this whole time?
