    You can appreciate the LIGHT,
But first you must know DARKNESS.
His first time in Motorcity and it was exactly what he had expected. Rowan took in a deep breath as she wan his fingers through his hair. He needed to keep calm, after all, that was why he was here. He had taken his steps away from the dark side of magic, the blood and the unnecessary killing, finding it no longer satisfying to him. Of course he had told this to his partner and friend, the one person who he shared a bond with in their fight against the unfairness of the world, but what he got in response was not what he was expecting. Rather than an understanding friend who would remind of him what they were fighting for and against, he received a cold look and a talk of power and wealth, getting rid of those who stood in the way.

He needed none of that. He didn't start on his dark path for power or wealth, but for something else. Something that he had lost along the way, something that he could no longer remember, coated in blood of the people that he had killed.

Gritting his teeth the white haired mage tried to wipe his mind of the thoughts that were plaguing his brain. But that was why he was here, taking a step away from the dark path, doing his best to, he didn't know, find the light? Whatever that meant. That would come later, he first needed to control his temper. The loud cars and vehicles that raced around him with horns blaring in every direction with people screaming at each other? Yeah, that's where he'd start. If he could manage to not try to rip someone's head off then he wou-

A loud screech came from his side as a car merely stopped in time not to hit him. What the hell? The walking sign was lit for him to cross the street, he was following the law. Who was this motherf**ker to- "What the hell do you think you're doing assh*le! I almost hit you cause you weren't looking where you were f*cking going! Maybe get your head out of your ass and pay attention you moron!"

Lightning flickered in his eyes as Rowan looked at the man who was yelling at him. Hold it in. Hold it in. Hold it- "Who the f*ck-!"

In a flash of light Rowan was on the man, picking him up by his shirt and shoving him against his own car. "What were you going to say?" His words seethed from his lips like black smoke, the spark that he was trying to calm down igniting as the mad in front of him began to swear at him.

Getting to Know the Other Side JrBLMi1

Motor City was a lot more exciting than Gwen was expecting. The entire city felt like one whirling machine constantly running. The smell of oil and grease filled the air no matter what street she walked on. Tinkerers sold handmade automatons and mechanical toys on the corners, garages and repair shops lined nearly every street. Cars, motorcycles, and weird vehicles that seemed straight from a sci-fi movie zoomed past on the roads. There was so much machinery it nearly made her dizzy.

Gwen was heading towards the main train station, humming a tune to herself. In her hands was a small mechanical dolphin that she had bought from a small trinket store a few blocks back. It was tiny and powered by a small lacrima that caused it to swim and dive when put into water. The item was a gift for her friend Maebh, with whom she often exchanged dolphin-themed items since they had become friends.

The young woman was in Motor City to make an appointment to get a driving license. While it could have been done over iLac or online, she figured going in person would give her the chance to explore the city a little. It was far from where she grew up on the southeast side of the continent of Fiore, so she’d never been here before.

The screech of brakes caught Gwen’s attention. Hazel eyes caught sight of a car just up the street. A tall man with light hair stood in front of it, just inches from getting slammed in the legs. If the car hadn’t stopped in time he could have been sent flying into the intersection, or even ran over! The driver was cussing him out, which should have been the other way around in Gwen’s mind. The crosswalk light indicated that the pedestrian had the right of way, so why on earth was this guy in the car mad?

Gwen’s pace quickened as the near-victim seemed to snap. The driver’s shirt was in his hands, shoved up against the car like a ragdoll. She had to do something, she couldn’t just let this turn into a brawl on the street! With a determined look on her face and her heart racing, Gwen shoved the mechanical dolphin in her bag and approached the altercation.

“Hey, hey, let him go,” she said firmly to the white-haired man, though her voice wavered slightly. One hand was placed gently on his arm. “Beating him up isn’t going to solve anything.”

    You can appreciate the LIGHT,
But first you must know DARKNESS.
Rowan was this close to punching the man. He could feel the muscles in his body tensing, ready to release into a swing. But he couldn't, a sudden weight appeared on his arm, a small touch on his bicep. The white haired male stopped at the voice echoing in his ears. The voice telling him to stop. His muscles almost instantly relaxed at the voice. It was as if his body was needing someone to tell him that he didn't need to hit the person in front of him who was shaking like a leaf.

Crystal blue eyes shot to the woman who was next to him, she was small in comparison but the voice in his head was confident. Rowan looked the girl up and down, eyeing her and ignoring the man in gripped in his fist, she was pretty, if not a bit innocent looking, someone that he probably would have never associated himself with while he was going around and pillaging. Yet, now as he help the man against the car, it seemed like this was the exact kind of person that he needed.

However, the more calm atmosphere was cracked as the man against the car spoke, "Y-yeah, man, don't hit me, just let me go. If you let me go I'll let this slide."

What? Lightning crackled in the shine of Rowan's eyes as he snapped back to look at the man. "You'll let this slide?" The lightning mage could feel the calm in his voice wavering. It wasn't that he was calm to begin with, but he was trying his best to be. However, this man right here was certainly not helping him. "You're the one that almost hit me, buddy. What makes you think that you're the one that has the right to let this slide?" Rowan's fist on the man's shirt tightened and he took in a deep breath. He promised himself that he would be better than this. But every piece of Rowan was telling him to just throw the man to the ground and step on his throat.

Teeth grit Rowan looked at the man, he could feel the lightning in his veins pulsating, trying to break free, one small move and he would be able to let it slip out.

The man turned at her words, meeting her eyes with sharp, icy blue ones. Under her hand, Gwen could feel the tension ease from his body. She’d managed to distract him for now it seemed.

“Just let him go-” Gwen began to say, but her words were cut off by the car driver. The moment he finished speaking, she knew this wouldn’t end easily. This guy was in a position of vulnerability, at the mercy of the person he almost hit, yet he couldn’t seem to keep himself from digging a deeper hole with his words. He seemed to think it was the other man’s fault.

Gwen could feel the tension return to the angered man. There was a weird sensation under her hand, almost like the hum of electricity. The hair on her arm was starting to stand up like she’d just shuffled her feet on some long carpet and gathered static. Was this some kind of magic? Her heart rate picked up. She had to do something to deescalate the situation before this guy had a magical outburst.

“You need to be quiet,” she scolded the car driver, pointing her finger sternly at him. “You’re not helping.” Turning to the white-haired man, she looked up at him with wide, pleading honey-colored eyes. “Please just let it go. He’s not worth it. Besides, we don’t want Rune Knights to get involved or anything.”
