    Arthur Harrington
    HP: 5600/5600 MP: 3097/3097

The scorching heat from Arthur's bath was comforting through the month's growing chill. It was long since harvest-time and snow was beggining to fall from the sky around Cedar, lending to a white coat on top of the gothic architecture alongside the awnings around the shopping district. More than ever, the shopping district was constantly alive with the crowds of people trying to get thesmelves a gift for a loved one or just a gift for themselves really. Arthur really enjoyed this time of year because the people in the bars were usually happier and the taverns around Fiore usually had spiced butter beer or things of that nature. His favourite thing though, all things considered, was the egg nog commonly served with cookies or buttered toast. Regardless, Arthur was distracted from the lulling heat of his bath by a knock at the door. COuld it have been a delivery, or a fan? Arthur was generally confused and genuinely curious at the thought. He hadn't ordered any goods online recently, and so the only other thing left that it could have been was a package. But at the same time though, why couldn't the mailman just use the slot in his door for mail? it was fully functional in all of its abilities, but Arthur felt a bit of pressure to actually get up out of his chair and help the person at his door. This could have been Arthur's one-in a hundred customer that desperately needed his help, or just junk mail advetising a new restaurant in his area. Sighing to himself, Arthur rose from the hot water's surface and listened to the remaining bath water cascading of fhis form and splashing down into the tub's basin. Dressing himself quickly with his requip magic, the Paladin squirmed at the feeling of wet skin against clothing. Once he got to his door, Arthur immediately dodged what he thought was a bolt of frozen energy coming towards him. In his hallway, a small female ghost was haunting and currently attacking him. Reflexively, Arthur shot out a simple bolt of magic and quickly took down the spirit that he had smote mere moments ago. The action left an off smell in the hallway, one of ectoplasm and ash, but the job was done. Arthur noticed an envelop at the same door, and so he opened it and read its contents. It was a note from his past self, one detailing his failures and anxieties.

Suddenly gripped by these mental struggles, Arthur found himself quickly skipping forward to the last part of the letter, which read that the rest of the spirits would be haunting the Cathedral. The paladin was certainly entertained at the very least, as it seemed he would be doing a bit of ghost hunting this Christmas season. It was getting late into the evening so everything had been cast in that gloomy winter blue shade of night. He was on the sidewalk when the second spirit appeared before him in the middle of the street. Cars passed through it without problem as it formed a pair of ice swords in her hands. Riding her skeletal horse, the spirit bounded towards him with her swords ready. This spirit didn't go down with just one attack, however, as its icy blade sliced at his armor and gave him troubling visions of the pirates he had put down or injured not too long ago. After the second bolt of holy magic, however, the spirit soon dissipated and withered away from existence after being defeated. Now that he had defeated two of them relatively easily, the paladin wondered how many of the spirits were exactly left. Could it have been that they were specifically targeting him for a reason, or had someone sent them after him? It was a troubling thought, but not one that prevented him from approaching the cathedral he had grown very familiar with over his near-permanent residency in Cedar. Arthur could see the twinkling lights adorning the church and the exteriors of all the other buildings nearby. It really was so pretty if he thought about it, the effort all of the civilians put in to build up the Christmas spirit, it really was something extraordinary. Arthur's detection of undead picked up the greater wraith haunting the cathedral. He could feel its dark aura trying to seep into his mind through his magic guard and things that otherwise would have protected against mind-altering effects. Arthur had little warning before he was suddenly overcome with a fear and existential dread about the things that awaited him in his future. He was thinking about how he would fall out of favor with his god and be left to struggle quietly as he was cut off from his powers. It was definitely a terrifying thought, and even worse one to be magical cast into his mind by a winter wraith. Bursting down the cathedral door with his armored boot, Arthur came to see the freaky-looking wraith haunting the vaulted ceilings of the cathedral.

With its long flowy black robes and tree-branch wings, it was definitely looking the part of a wraith. The magic protecting Arthur's mind reinforced itself as the creature let out another telepathic attack on his psyche, it wouldn't be a good thing for him to be affected by a stronger blast of the magic, he didn't know what type of imagery the ghost would be able to conjure up this time now that he was closer to it. Gathering his magic all around him, the paladin's body glowed a bright yellow before Arthur released an explosion of magic around him from his body, dousing the cathedral in blinding yellow light that smote the wraith on contact with the explosion of daylight. it probably wasn't that easy to take down these spirits, but his magic was generally affected against their type of undead so he wasn't really complaining at all. Arthur's surroundings had been untouched by the explosion, thanks to his grace in applying the light of all creation. Even after defeating the ice wraith, Arthur could feel another magical presence that was not his own within the cathedral. Looking around, the paladin caught sight of an old short-looking man emerging from a back door of the cathedral. Wearing the guise and robes of an old miser, he definitely looked the part of a villain. Before Arthur could stop the man, he seemingly summoned all of the undead spirits at once. Two could play at that game, Arthur thought, as he summoned Avacyn from a pair of golden gates appearing behind him. Now with her presence, the angel blessed him with her hope and gathered her darkness at the tip of her spear. "I'm going to take care of these spirits for you and send them to a peaceful rest in the afterlife. You take care of their summoner, Arthur."

Nodding at the angel's instruction, Arthur requipped his sword before teleporting behind the miser with a raised sword. Ready to slash, the mage sent out a wave of emotion magic that made him doubt his urge to protect the city from the undead. It made him falter, and in that moment the mage slashed at him with a hidden blade from underneath his old worn coat. Pain blossomed from his cheek as blood trickled down his face. Casting a healing glow over his hand, Arthur healed his wound with ease and teleported once more to chase the miser who had injured him so. Now aware that the man used a form of emotional magic, the paladin guarded himself with his strongest spell as he felt a tiny sliver of Helios entering into his soul to protect him against those types of effects. This man was very dangerous, if his affinity for emotional manipulation and necromancy were anything to go by. Arthur would have to put him down, it seemed, as restraining him would be just a tad bit too difficult it seemed. Maybe it was just Arthur being spiteful for those hurtful images the creatures had provoked in his mind, but he wasn't feeling particularly merciful. Giving the summoner the same treatment as he had given its summons. Arthur gathered solar magic along his blade before sending out a volley of slices to track and home in on the evil necromancer mage. The mage was pretty weak without his summons, all things considered. And as Avacyn fended off each of their wretched forms, Arthur was free to watch as the summoner fell down to one knee after being critically injured by the attack. If Arthur was feeling merciful, he did not show it to the man as he cast a glare at the necromancer before leaving. Hopefully someone would find the man in the cathedral before he bled out on its ancient stone floor. Maybe not, but that was for the fates to decide. It was not up to him now as he retreated back out onto the wintery night road and back to the festival of Christmas lights he had been planning to attend in the first place. Hopefully the Christmas revelers would not mind his rugged appearance, he had just come from a battle after all.

    A Cedar Christmas 9GglK4i

May the bridges I burn light the way.

Christmas was such a foreign holiday for him, as were many things, like Halloween and Valentine's Day. He had spent most of his life in laboratories and padded flame-resistant cells, his only contact with the outside world being the occasional gossip he'd overhear from those researchers that supervised him. His sense of time was warped and nonexistent, but every year those researchers and scientists would adorn their cubicles and work stations with small, plastic Christmas trees or exchange "Happy Holidays!" with one another. It was all so sickening—the way they could so casually decorate what was essentially an asylum for Juuya. Still, it was their sadistic merriment that told Juuya what time of year it was. Annually, he'd know that time had passed.

Juuya, like many other things, didn't have fond memories of this season, and yet he didn't feel disgusted or angry when he meandered through Cedar Town during their Winter Festival. He had expected all of the lights and happiness to send his emotional state asunder, but all he ever did was stare out at all of these things in nostalgic awe. His earliest memory of Christmas was the last one he had spent with his mother and younger sibling so many years ago. It was shortly after that that he had never seen them again, but he could only gaze upon the trees and couples with wonder and mild curiosity. He didn't know why he had come to this festival, as he was planning to leave Cedar after one too many run-ins with the big, butch man who seemed to live here, but he convinced himself to stay after he heard about this festival. Just to look and to see what was up, you know?

Juuya walked along the wintry path throughout the festival, although no one would recognize him as the punk who terrorized the town with petty theft and brawls. He looked nothing like the man with scorched skin, inky-black hair, and tattered clothing. Instead, his skin was unblemished and a little dry, eyes like bubblegum gems, and long, blue hair tied into a lazy ponytail, as dark as midnight. To some, he wasn't far from being coined as eye-catching, or at least not the worst looking man thanks to the amulet he was given by his boss. His real body wasn't erased—he actually continued to live with it, but the amulet gave him the appearance and feel of a completely different person. Although he enjoyed scaring people with his gnarly appearance, he did enjoy the feeling of having skin that wasn't dead and scorched and being able to tie his hair up so he could see. It felt like an overall improvement to his quality of life, something he didn't know he had wanted until now. He wore a snazzy summer shirt, black slacks that cuffed at his ankles, and sandals. He was completely underdressed for the weather, but his being half-infernal kept him nice and warm even during the chillier months. Summertime could sometimes be a pain, however.

He continued to meander through the town, staring at this item and that, distracted by the Christmas wonder that he had been so nostalgic about. However, his awe was interrupted once he slammed his walking body into someone much larger than him, feeling his nose cave in as his stride was abruptly stopped.

"What the fuck? Watch where you're going, man—" Juuya rubbed his nose, fixing his gaze so that he was glaring at whoever he had just bumped into. To his surprise, it was none other than the big, butch man he had been trying to avoid for a few days now, walking around in his rugged appearance. Juuya flinched when he realized just who it was, eyes squinting and brows twitching as a quiet irritation and regret came over him. Honestly, what the hell? Was this dude just destined to be in his general vicinity, no matter what? It's like he couldn't escape this guy, no matter where he went! But the damage had been done, and his only moment to salvage the situation and get the hell away from the guy was to quickly retreat into and the crowd—maybe the guy wouldn't recognize his brand new appearance, but his mannerisms were easy to pick out. He just hoped to God he wouldn't notice and just leave! "A-Ahh... shoot. You know what, that was my bad. 'Scuse me..."

Juuya kept his head down, one hand to casually hover over his forehead to veil his clearly uncomfortable expression, and the other pocketed in his slacks. He tried to make himself small despite there only being a couple inches of disparity in their height, leaning down and trying to step around the man.

    Arthur Harrington
    HP: 5600/5600 MP: 3097/3097

Arthur was on his way to the town square Christmas tree decorating contest. After he had defeated the spirits and ghosts that were haunting the cathedral, the paladin had wanted to participate in all of the other activities and festivities that were offered around this time of year. Generally speaking, these festivities were things such as decorating trees, wrapping gifts, making cards, decorating sweaters, all sorts of things like that which were considered fun and festive to the people of the village. Arthur was a big fan of enjoying holidays and spreading festivities and cheer. Regardless of what activity or holiday he was celebrating, he knew that he'd actually end up having a great time all things considered. It was why he walked to the city square with such confidence, such certainty that tonight would go well and he'd maybe end up with a warm bed after socializing in a tavern after the contest. From what the posters around town were saying, the competition for decorating the tree was starting tonight, right about now actually. Arthur was glad for his general speed, as otherwise he was sure he would miss the event and that would probably sour his mood for the rest of the night. Considering the reason he was coming out here in the first place- to make himself happy and enjoy himself, the last thing he really wanted was to be pissed off about missing the contest. Arthur smiled at the people around him, some offering him a little wave of recognition at his appearance. The people of Cedar were well acquainted with the knight by now, knowing of his conquests in both regards to people and slaying monsters. The cathedral had sent out a memo thanking him for his brave courage in fighting the lich, and so naturally people had started to talk about him and a small amount of local fame had been gathered. He wasn't recognized as much without his silver and gold armor, but when he had it on he couldn't step a foot outsdie without being recognized by teh general public. It was a bit annoying, not to go anywhere and be lowkey when dirnking or just generally shopping, but he had to admit being well-perceived was pretty good for his ego and self-esteem. Arthur's stomach rumbled and he then began to think about what types of food they could be serving at the event. Maybe some type of cookies and hot chocolate? That would be great for both his stomach and sweet tooth, though not for his waist.

Arthur's delicious train of thought was interrupted by a harsh slam into the front of his body. Taken a bit surprised, Arthur let out a startled breath but did not lose his balance. It would have taken a lot more than that to take him off his feet. Feeling awkward about having bumped into something like that, Arthur attempted to reach out and pat the smaller man's shoulder before he suddenly jerked his hand back. Blue hair. Blue hair, the same color of that brat who had been causing problems before. But this wasn't him, it couldn't be him, it couldn't be him because the man had none of the puckered purple skin or the burn marks ravaging stitched parts of his flesh. No, this man had none of that permanent marring that Arthur had the strong urge to attempt to heal. But when the blue-haired man began talking, Arthur was less sure and suddenly confused. It was exactly the same voice, mannerisms and all in terms of general nervousness around him. But it wasn't him, Arthur pressed his palm against his forehead. This was too much to think about. Focusing on his magic senses, Arthur could feel a slight ember lurking about in the general vicinity. If it looked like a duck, quacked like a duck, well- the man must have had some pretty good healing magic or some sort of disguise magic. Arthur couldn't explain it right at the moment, but he was sure there was some sort of rational explanation about how the man's face had like completely changed- though the paladin was still yet unable to tell if for better or worse. What hadn't changed, though, were the punk's manners and general belligerence. Arthur was smirking now that he had caught the little rat when he was probably up to no good. For what other reason would a delinquent be hanging out around this many poor naïve tourists? At first, the punk's reasoning that Arthur had been profiling him were very troubling because they were true. Arthur knew what he had seen that day though, the strange clues adding up together in his head. Arthur would just have to make sure the criminal didn't get out of his sight and ruin the holidays of whoever he was bound to steal from or harass in ways Arthur didn't want to think about.

When the punk tried to leave, Arthur made an unapproving noise before putting a hand on the man's shoulder with a firm grasp to stop him from leaving. Arthur glared at the little punk. "Not happening. I'm not letting you ruin the holiday spirit of the people celebrating here with whatever it is you're planning. Instead, you're going to come decorate a tree with me so that I can keep an eye on you. This isn't an offer by the way, I'm telling you that you're coming with me or I can y'know, talk to the Rune Knights instead. Now, follow me, I think you'll enjoy the contest, think we can win if we partner up?"

    A Cedar Christmas 9GglK4i

"...You're kidding, right?" Juuya slowly peered over the shoulder the big butch man had firmly placed his hand on, eyes apprehensively squinting at the hand and then the man's bearded face that it was attached to. He wanted nothing more than to rip his shoulder out of that man's grubby fingers and the bolt away and out of Cedar for good, but as things were now, he physically couldn't. So much for his wit making up for the disparities of strength between his opponents, huh? The guy was so much stronger than him that he really didn't have much of a choice than to go along with whatever he had in mind with him if he valued his life. The Rune Knights weren't anything he'd write home about since surely his guild would come to get their own, right? Maybe not, but he wouldn't stick around long enough in their prisons for him to lose sleep over it. Honestly, what a shitty situation.

What's more, the guy didn't even express any immediate interest in turning him in as any goody-two-shoes ought to do. Instead, the 'you're coming with me' threat was just forcefully making him participate in Christmas events, which seemed so corny and unbelievable that Juuya was wondering whether or not he'd rather risk running away right now. Hell, he wasn't even stirring up trouble as he liked to do. For once, he was just strolling through town in mild curiosity, looking for something to eat and a rooftop to sleep on. When the man asked if him if he thought they could win, Juuya responded with a judgemental stare and absolute silence.

    . . . . . . .

"What... the hell..." Juuya cursed, puzzled by the box he was just handed by an organizer of that activity. It was full of lots of stuff: ornaments round and square, glittering or sleek in design, ribbons of all colors and fabrics, a glamourous star topper Like he was commanded to, Juuya begrudgingly followed his captor right over to the Christmas tree decoration contest—a subject he had no clue how to approach. He had only ever decorated one Christmas Tree his entire life, and it was a tiny little thing that could fit in a pot or on top of a work desk. It wasn't much, but he and his younger sibling enjoyed decorating it with string and tiny little ornaments. They could never stay in one place, so they had to settle for such a little tree, but it meant the world for them. Compared to the other boxes, Juuya and his butch captor were quite lucky to have such a spread of amazing decorations. Unfortunately, the dark-haired delinquent didn't seem interested in decorating anything, instead, holding out the box for the man to take. "Yeah, no way am I decorating some Christmas tree with your old-ass. Take it."

    Arthur Harrington
    HP: 5600/5600 MP: 3097/3097

Arthur was not surprised in the slightest by the punk's reaction. General displeasure and grumpy moodiness was along the lines of what the paladin expected from the man. It was a pleasant surprise, though, that the younger man even agreed to this in the first place. Arthur figured the juvenile would have just ran away and kicked a puppy or something like that. Although, to be fair, running from him would have been quite the courageous move given his general magic presence and apparent abilities. Arthur knew he was well-known in town, and so perhaps maybe the criminal didn't want to mess with him or run off and risk being reported? The paladin probably wouldn't do so unless he saw the rogue actually commit a crime, and running away from his undoubtedly intimidating figure was probably not anywhere close to being an actual crime.

    --

Arthur looked down at the plentitude of ornaments in the holiday box given to them for their group. While it was just the two of them for a relatively medium-sized tree, Arthur imagined they'd have an easy time with the cornucopia of colors stored in the box before them. Mostly, while there were a lot of colors, they all stuck to a few centralizing color schemes of gold, green, red, and other complimentary shades. Admittedly, the ornaments looked more than a little fragile, and so Arthur took one up into his hand and held in gently. It was a glass or crystal bird or something, able to clip upon the tree as if it were perching on one of its branches. There was something special about decorating a Christmas tree, and while it may not have been in the warmest of company, Arthur was still happy to be doing it regardless. He hadn't gotten around yet to actually picking up a Christmas tree, but he was debating if it was even worth it in the first place.

The tree was rather large to be honest, about a bit bigger than a large lacrima freezer, but Arthur was certain of his ability to get it looking up to par for the contest. It looked like it would end up being a lot of work, but depending on how the miscreant participated, they could get it done within the time constraints. He wasn't so much interested in winning than actually just participating in the fun little event and making an enjoyable Christmas holiday for himself. And from how the juvenile shoved the box of decorations back into his chest, Arthur sighed and took the box in his hand.

"So you don't like Christmas, huh? Not a fan of the commercial aspect? I can see that, but I still love all of the traditions and what not. Don't be a sour little punk and ruin the fun though. Even if you don't celebrate Christmas for whatever reason, be it religious, political, and any other reason, you're still going to help me decorate this damn tree or so help me Helios I am going to drag you to the Knight's office myself."

Arthur didn't know why the punk was pissing him off so much, but the way he just went out of his way to be difficult rubbed him the wrong way. Maybe it was the blatant disrespected? Or maybe it was how this little dude was hell-bent on being awful and hurting everyone around him. It could have only been bc the guy was hating himself, or some sort of deep psychological reason like that. Or maybe he was just an asshole, but Arthur wasn't going to judge him for that yet quite yet. What he was going to judge the little rat for, though, was calling him old. He was not old, he was still quite young considering the general demographic and generations of people older than him.

    For emphasis, he huffed out.

    "And I'm not old."
