Thunder rumbled over the town of Magnolia, rain fell in torrents and lightning lit the sky in a tableau of nature's fury that had sent the inhabitants of the town scurrying for their shelter when the storm rolled in an hour earlier. To Skylar, nothing was more beautiful. The sound of thunder and roaring winds was like a symphony to the storm mage. He walked alone through the streets, paying no heed to the fact that he was soaked. Or rather, he was actually enjoying it. The only thing that put a damper on his joy was the fact that he was not flying. There was no reason he couldn't, not really. Though the winds above were chaotic, and the skies filled with lightning, he would be safe. Nature's wrath held no danger for the Stormcaller. No, the only reason he could not take to the air was because he was supposed to be working.

As an 'intern', whatever that meant, of Fairy Tail, Skylar was given the task of running a message to a shopkeeper. The young wizard wasn't sure of the contents of the message, or why this one specific shopkeep would be singled out, but he was responsible for delivering it all the same. And somehow, that meant no flying. No soaring upon the winds, feeling the icy water run over his skin, feeling the rough-but-honest gusts try to toss him about, hear the sky sing out in basso rumbles above his head as the patient earth bore the brunt of nature's cleansing wrath.
Skylar shook his head slightly, briefly closing his eyes and turning his face to the sky, letting the icy rain wash away his melancholy. It was storming, and that was good enough. Any day that had a storm was enough for him. Taking a deep breath, he reopened his eyes and looked back down to the earth below.

As he passed the mouth of an alley, he heard something that caught his attention. He wasn't entirely sure what it was, beyond a sound that didn't fit in with the symphony of the skies. Curiosity roused, he momentarily forgot his mission and turned down the alley.  In the next flash of lightning, he saw a young woman with her back to the brick wall, looking distinctly uncomfortable. The reason for her discomfort was likely the three young men surrounding her, gazing at her with leers. The one in the middle said something that was lost in the rumble of thunder, and his two lackeys laughed while the woman bit her lip in fear.

Skylar grit his teeth, a sudden storm of rage kindling in his heart to match the tempest above. Calling upon the winds, he lifted off his feet, launching forward, down the alley. The roaring wind that bore him buffeted the four civilians, causing one of the thugs to look down the alley, just in time to catch the storm mage's knee to the mouth. He choked and stumbled backwards, only to take Skylar's heel to the back of the head as the wizard twisted above him. The thug lurched forward under the force of the blow, having the misfortune of being caught by an unforgiving brick wall. As he slid senselessly to the ground, Skylar executed a neat flip, bringing his foot scything down onto the far thug's collarbone with an audible snap. The street tough tried to scream, but couldn't get his breath. Especially after the wizard's fist slammed into his throat. Two thugs went down in a handful of seconds, and Skylar touched down, his blue eyes catching the flash of a lightning bolt as he glowered at the remaining thug, the one that had been in the middle.

The not-so-tough tough stumbled backwards, excuses or pleas for mercy sputtering from his lips. Skylar ignored whatever it was and reached towards the sky, calling upon the fury of the storm raging above. The tempest responded with a bolt of lighting, which Skylar caught and shaped into a spear of quivering, leashed energy that hurt to even look at. Slowly, the storm mage lowered the spear, leveling it's point at the thug's throat. The thug's heel caught on a slightly upturned cobblestone, pitching him to the ground.

"I will give you this one chance to walk away. If I ever see you or your buddies again, I will kill you." the wizard said in a low voice, barely audible over the noise of the wind and rain. In fact, it seemed almost as if the storm quieted for a moment, just to let him speak. Whimpering in panic, the tough scrambled to his feet and bolted, leaving his friends lying unconscious on the cold stone. The wizard gave a satisfied nod and let the spear of lightning return to the heavens, then turned and walked away, ignoring the profuse thanks of the woman he'd saved.

He had a message to deliver.

    And a report to write.

Skylar stood in place, staring at his guild master in shock, though it didn't show on his face. After delivering the message to the shopkeep, Skylar had returned to the guild hall and wrote up a brief report of his encounter with the thugs, in case some legal trouble cropped up. He sent it in to the guild's administrators, then retired back to the bar for some relaxation. To his surprise, he soon received a summons to speak with Mura Kensho, the guild master.

Once in the Master's office, Mura proceeded to explain to the storm mage that Fairy Tail was not all as it seemed, and in fact took some jobs on the dark side of things. Mercenary work, he'd called it. According to Mura, Skylar had shown initiative in his treatment of the three thugs, and was worthy of the honor of becoming a full member of the guild, now that he knew about the illegal work.

Skylar took a deep breath and closed his eyes, his thoughts racing along with the speed of lightning. Supposedly, the mercenary work wasn't quite like what dark guilds, which had become somewhat infamous lately, did. It was all for a good cause, and Skylar would never be called upon to do harm to innocents or civilians, who didn't deserve it. Meaning that this would allow the storm mage to do some real good in the world, beyond what the law could touch. Skylar had never really cared much about laws anyway.

Skylar opened his eyes and looked into his guild master's with a firm gaze, giving a sharp nod. "I accept."
