It's never too late for a fresh start. There is no darkness where the light cannot shine.

No one is ever too far gone to be saved.

    Sayuri-Side
The throne room of Dies Irae was shrouded in a state of semi-gloom in the fading light filtering down through the windows high above. The plethora of candles scattered throughout the hall did their best to chase away the shadows, but in Sayuri’s opinion the deep gray of the granite walls seemed to absorb their futile efforts. Instead, the wavering flames sent the shadows flickering about, as though something was stalking through the guild hall. A slight draft in the hall set the red and gold banners swaying, which only served to amplify the effect. Sayuri glanced around and shuddered for a moment, then straightened slightly, trying to push the unease from her mind.

“Stop being fanciful,” she chided herself under her breath, tugging at the sleeve of her guild uniform to straighten it out, as well as to distract herself. “The hall has never seemed this spooky before. You’re being ridiculous.”

Still, the dim orange glow radiating from the crystals on the headpiece the slim brunette wore revealed that she was still on edge. Perhaps it’s because of the matter at hand, she thought.

She was currently standing in front of Dies Irae’s job board, peering at the job listings in the flickering light. Well, not all the listings- she really only had eyes for one in particular. Mercurius Savel. Sayuri had heard the name tossed around a few times before. Rumor is that he was part of some dark guild at one point, although no one could agree which one. But he’d either left because he hated the few restraints they placed on him, or been kicked out for being too extreme even for them, depending on who you believed.

After that he had mostly faded from view until recently, when it came to light that he had been practicing his curse magic on children, experimenting with new spells, to devastating effects for his victims. And it may have stayed a secret if he hadn’t made a simple mistake. He picked the wrong child to target. Before that he had focused his attention on troubled, abused, and orphaned children. Those that no one would notice had gone missing, or the ones that people would assume had just finally run off for good. But his latest victim had been missed, and a cry had gone up to locate the boy. Unfortunately, by the time he had been found it had been too late to save him, but he’d been able to reveal the identity of his attacker before his tragic death.

Exposed in the town where he’d been living under cover, Mercurius had fled deep into the Cursed Lands. A mage who had gone after him had discovered he was holed up in an old abandoned manor house, but had not been strong enough to take him down. And now, it seemed that Mercurius had even made it to Dies Irae’s job board. The family of the last victim had put up a generous reward for anyone who could bring him to justice. Capture was good, but death was even better, so they say.

Sayuri clenched her hand on the hilt of one of the two swords sheathed at her waist. She had initially come here looking for some easy job she could do to fill some time. She’d had no intention whatsoever of going off after a dangerous dark mage. But… The fact that he had targeted children made her blood boil. She wanted to bring him down more than anything, to make sure that he never got a chance to do that to anyone else.

Still, she couldn’t deny the fact that he was entirely too strong for her to take on by herself, and she was so new to the guild that she didn’t really have anyone she could ask to take on the mission with her. She sighed.

“Oh well, there’s nothing else for it,” she muttered to herself, a bad habit she’d picked up after spending entirely too much time on her own. “You’ll just have to pick something else.”

She tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear as she turned her attention to the rest of the job board. Maybe something else would spark her interest.

The Hunt for Justice Empty Re: The Hunt for Justice

The aesthetic of the guild hall had seemed to be so serene to some and a tone of comfort for most to sit back and enjoy themselves with, however it had been that there was something about it that gave off a somber mood. As if her already dampened personality couldn’t be worsened by that of her curse and the same that afflicted her friend and countless others from which she had known throughout her childhood, be it they were friends or not. They were being robbed of their free thought and add to believe that complying to ones demands would come to serve them with more power and of course, the greed implied by the normal human race was too much to give up. It wasn’t that only humans could be persuaded to do so, but more over that they were probably some of the easiest targets to approach with something of that sort.

It was those reasons that clouded her mind recently. Among the frequenting nightmares of her own memories from her own actions, she couldn’t bare to think that she was anything but a ticking time bomb and perhaps leaving would be the best option. It mattered not that the brunette’s advancement to officer within the guild wasn’t a motive to stay, but she truly stayed because they wished to help. Knowing nor her nor Kalama could do it alone or perhaps even together as a pair, the strength of a guild behind them was a helper to say the least. Still, the cursed mage couldn’t help but feel as though she were down to the idea that there could eventually be a cure or at the very least a way to fully control her curse. However, ever since the incident, Aoi couldn’t help but keep herself away from others, reflecting on things to try and make sense of everything. Sure, she got her wish. She learned what her curse truly gave to her... but it surely came at a price.

Her senses began to tingle. It was an odd type of feeling she got, but it only ever happened around Kalama. Was it that she could now sense cursed individuals? Surely, it was an asset to have for searching out those whom tried to hide within the public face. But what would Kal be doing around here? She was away on an assignment last she heard and yet, this sensation was still here. If not for her current uniform being worn, her bare feet would have let her move in complete silence, but still the farmers daughter would make an attempt to do so. Her head poked around the corner, spying onto another feminine figure. Her body was definitely a 10 out of 10 and her stature was something close to Kalama, but she knew it wasn’t her. The head of rich caramel colored hair was the biggest giveaway, that even if she were cured, wouldn’t be that color... then again, neither of them were aware of what could happen should they find a cure at all.

Normally, Aoi’s approach to the woman would be a swift grope and compliment, something she felt compelled to do almost in a bit of a lecherous manner. Only now? She didn’t have the mental confidence to do so. She simply walked closer while the girl muttered under her breath about something. What was she even doing? Was there something she wanted to do that she couldn’t? Wait... this girl was the only person around and yet, she could still sense this.. this feeling. The brunette approached the like colored girl, pulling the guard from her mouth and letting it settle around her neck. ”Howdy. Couldn’t help notice y’all seem to be a bit troubled... Anything I can help with?” She asked, her southern accent bleeding through in her words. She had not wanted to bring up the fact she felt the girl being cursed, as there could be no such thing and her own trying to play with her senses.

Who knows? Maybe the girl could feel the same thing.
