Personality: The native of an ancient archipelagic continent, and the only remaining native of an island long-since sunken into the depths of the sea, Mathis Lora has been known as the Champion of the People, due to his skills in combat and his role in protecting the entire continent. He has always been seen as a paragon of honor, only challenging opponents to fair duels should he get into combat. This has ranged from things as small as people, to even one possibly mythical tale of him challenging a dragon to single combat and winning. As such, he has trained himself to keep a cool head around him at all times, keeping a high respect for the dead, often citing that the reason he duels is so that his opponent dies with honor.

He often speaks in a formal manner, usually using honorifics and rarely ever using slang or even contractions, speaking every word out in full. This is mostly due to tradition within his homeland, where this manner of speech was commonplace and taught as the only proper etiquette. It would often be considered rude to speak in manners without such rigorous specificity, but through his many trials, Mathis has learned to acknowledge the cultures and personalities of others.

While he is known for his honor and formality, without a doubt, he is, above all else, known for his exquisite skills in combat. Wielding his transforming blade, Monado, and summoning forth spirits that assist him, whether through wielding Monado themselves or boosting Mathis's own powers, he has remained with only a few losses ever marked on his over two-millennia-long record. He has traveled around the world, fighting many different nation's best warriors, only just having arrived in Fiore to see what it has to offer, while giving his own assistance to Fiore for the sake of his own, ailing home.

*Honing His Combat: He is a master of combat, both in melee and in short-ranged due to his sword, Monado. However, even though he is a born and trained master, he wishes to be the greatest fighter in the world.
*Honor. Above all else, he is an honorable man, preferring to challenge his opponents to one-on-one duels, the only addition into combat being his summons.
*Inner Peace. He likes controlling his emotions, keeping a cool head. As such, he can often be seen meditating in his down time when not training.

Dislikes:
*Cowards / Dishonorable People: He sees these types of people as the lowest of the low, disregarding a fair fight.
*Defeat. While he will take defeat in a duel honorably, he by no means likes it.
*The heat. His homeland was fairly cold, and so high heat bothers him in his armor.

Motivations:
*Becoming the Greatest Swordsman in the world. Despite being in a world dominated by magic and ranged combat, Mathis prefers an up-close approach to combat. As such, he wishes to be the greatest in such a skill as he possibly could be.
*Becoming Well-Known as a Warrior. While success is certainly the priority, he admittedly does wish for fame, albeit for the sake of giving his homeland more recognition.
*Bringing the Art of Swordsmanship to New Heights. While certainly ambitious, he wishes to see the world appreciate swordsmanship as a new art.

Personality: Before there were even written records, there were the beings in Alrest known as Blades, mysterious beings born from crystals that, once those who resonated with one died, would return to crystals, losing all of their memories and only retaining a basic personality. Mathis Lora was, once, such a Blade, but he has since fused with his Driver and become a Flesh Eater, a seemingly immortal Blade that can resonate Blades of his own.

The nature his base form of Mathis gives granted him an honorable spirit, not too dissimilar to that of a samurai. He refers to others using typical honorifics, often -san and -sama, and speaks in a very formal tone. Above all else, honor is the name of the game for the fighting machine, refusing to resort to tactics such as ambushes to gain the upper hand and wishing for a fair fight in all that he does. This base form also gives him an expertise in using weaponry, though it also gives him a lack of abilities in magic, only having awakening to magic as a result of his transformation into Flesh Eater.

Since his transformation into Flesh Eater, however, his outlook has changed slightly. While he keeps the honor, he has installed his own code of ethics into his being, the primary factor being that of stopping those that would wish to rely on those underhanded tactics for their benefits. Since he has come to a revelation and an acceptance towards his lot as a non-human, he has also made it his mission to attempt to rescue as many Blades as possible from the unfortunate cycle of death and forgetting. He has also lightened up, showing more interest in matters of technology and the different styles of fighting shown throughout the world. As a Driver to many Blades, he also fashions himself somewhat of a father figure, often shown through his artificial Blade, Poppi.

Despite his unbending personal morals, he is, by all accounts, a genius. While he may not be a natural genius, thousands of years of travel and learning, both general knowledge as well as fighting, have worn their way into a true sense of smarts. He is often seen kindly lending a hand to those in need with any matters, whether it be a cat stuck in a tree or performing upgrades to a machine. He can sometimes be seen as cold-natured due to his stiff way of speaking, but deep down, he has a kind heart that is willing to help all.
