Grave Robber [Job ● Private] Empty Grave Robber [Job ● Private]

Grave Robber [Job ● Private] 6pDDpQD
    Rodney Macke

The evening sun bathed the minor plot of land just outside the city of Era, a place where the jurisdiction of the city guard did not fall and yet, the young man living on the property needed their help more than ever. This peculiar man wearing a head full of cyan hair stood fifty yards away from his own house with a miffed expression. His arms crossed, he peered disappointedly at the dug holes, each measuring around six to seven feet in length. Each hole contained the remains of a wooden coffin and each coffin bore the same signs of magical rot. Most people would have suspected a mass grave robbing right away but the missing body in every open grave suggested something far more sinister than looters of the dead. Worrisemly, vast amounts of footprints littered the entire site, not only hinting at more than one possible culprit but making it difficult to determine the direction they might have come from or gone toward in the middle of the night.

The man rubbed his temple to appease the growing headache as he sighed, "Pops isn't gonna like this." He bit his lip as he thought about earning the ire of his father who had tasked him with caring for the family's graveyard after proving too incompetent to take up the job of a full undertaker. He knew his father would give him the same tired speech about his lack of ambition and work ethic; though he might complain that he cannot and should not be held responsible for others desecrating the graveyard, the young man felt certain it would fall on deaf ears. He had to put an end to it before he got chewed out but the officials of Era decided the matter fell out of their hands despite days of pleading. Fortunately, the man counted on a contingency plan that he hoped would pay off in the next day or two before his father disowned him.

The man had set up flyers across the city and surrounding areas, even mailing requests to some guilds directly asking for assistance. Each one read something along the lines of, "Seeking assistance at the Macke Graveyard near Era. Need help putting a stop to nightly grave robberies. 10,000 Jewels on completion. See Rodney Macke for details." Rodney, the young man standing over the dug-up holes, hoped to keep the details of the crimes vague so as not to discourage potential patrons and hopefully prevent family members of the deceased from harassing him. He furthermore prayed that the large reward would tempt potential mercenaries or wizards to come assist him with his predicament rather quickly. Those flyers, however, had gone out days ago.

Rodney stepped away from the plundered graves and started toward the graveyard's entrance. A small, old gate made of decrepit stones surrounded the entire land; save for the rickety wooden gate no higher than Rodney's waist. The gate ajar as if welcoming people in, the man sat down on the outside of the stone fence and rested in hands in lap. He kept his frustrated eyes on the incoming road, hoping his savior would turn up eventually. He did not give off the impression of a graveyard caretaker. He wore bright clothes and his bright hair made him stand out even in the middle of daylight. Nonetheless, he appeared entirely comfortable in his setting, enough to casually sigh as he figured out what he would do if this matter continued. The escape of his breath sounded especially loud against the quiet background. The entire surrounding forest had permeated an unnatural silence ever since the grave robberies began.

"WELL THEN MAYBE YOU SHOULD RE-THINK YOUR ADVERTISING!!!" Taiga stood in the middle of street yelling back at the owner of a small restaurant. The young mage was obviously angry and strangers began to notice. An ever growing crowd of people began to form around the young mage and restaurant to see what the commotion is about. "Get outta here!" The chef called back, waving a dirty rag in his hand to tell the boy to 'shoo'. This boiled Taiga even more. "AHHH! HOW ABOUT INSTEAD OF 'ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET', YOU SHOULD LABEL IT AS 'ALL YOU CAN EAT UP TO 72 PLATES BUFFET'!." The chef rolled his eyes and walked back inside the establishment, leaving Taiga standing in the middle of the street looking like a complete idiot. The crowd of people began to disperse after they learned what the situation and although Taiga wanted to continue this argument, he had other places to be.

Earlier that day Taiga had come across a flyer that asked for assistance at the nearby graveyard. At first he wasn't going to take it on but what peaked his intrest the most was that the request didn't actually specify the type of assistance needed. Normally a job request would detail that there were some goons to deal with or some kind of missing pendant but there was nothing like that with this one. Pouting, grumbling and mumbling to himself, Taiga began to make his way out of the city of Era and towards the graveyard's location. Thankfully, it wasn't very far from where Taiga was, roughly a fifteen minute walk, if that. As the young mage approached, Taiga would have likely felt an eerie feeling of some sort just by the site of the graveyard, but the was another young man there in bright clothing... Bad things don't normally where bright clothing so this was a good start. "Excuse me... Are you the one who put out the flyer?" Taiga asked as he approached, pulling out the flyer from his pocket.
