    Job Description:

Dawn was bright for the new mage, Ezekiel Miscanthus, who was wide-eyed and bushy tailed the entire night before.  He had traveled to Hargeon town the night before, making sure to arrive early to his first official ‘job.’  While it was more of a small task, he figured obtaining a passport would benefit his future career, especially since he recently joined the guild Dies Irae.  While he was initially quite hesitant about joining a guild, especially one that is considerably ‘militarized.’  Though, he figured it might be better than joining the Rune Knights, something he always had an irrational fear of.  Perhaps it stemmed from being a knight in Cedar for so many years that the idea of officially becoming a knight worried him.  Whatever it was, as he crawled out of bed and prepared for his day, he looked in the mirror and traced the jade green mark on his leg.  As soon as he turned eighteen, he made the hardest decision of his life: leaving his home in Cedar.  It was only a few days ago when he took his hunting bow and armor, and hopped on the first boat to Dies Irae and hesitantly joined.

He shrugged on his armor and a red garb, customary Dies Irae wear, and left the Atrophie Bow behind.  Hargeon Town was warm and humid, but a slow moving coolness rode the wind as he stepped out.  Even from the porch of the inn, he could see a lengthening line form in front of the embassy.  People were entering at a faster rate than exiting.  Ezekiel briefly looked at his watch, doing a double take when he realized the time.  The office only opened ten minutes ago!

With a peppy skip in his step, Ezekiel made his way down towards the heart of the city.  Relatively speaking, Hargeon was much like a larger, busier version of his hometown.  The smell of seawater was almost intoxicating, overwhelming even, and was matched only by the robust scent of fish and sweat.  The city was a sight to behold, really, visually full of history and character.  Hargeon town’s docks had scars and the scattered remains of previous attacks but added a depth to the town that Ezekiel couldn’t describe.

“You must be here for the passport,” an official said, breaking Ezekiel from his horizon-locked gaze.  The man noticed the red sash around his hip with the Dies Irae emblem on the fringe, as well as the transparent patch on his leg that revealed his guild mark.  Ezekiel was despondent for a moment, distracted by a ship blowing its horn in the distance.  “Sir?”

Ezekiel turned his attention back to the man and boyishly giggled.  “Sorry,” he said, “this is my first time traveling.  So many sights and sounds everywhere.”

“You’re from Dies Irae, I take it?”

“Yes sir,” Ezekiel replied, adding a little bow to his introduction.  “Ezekiel Miscanthus.”

“Ah, yes,” the official retrieved a box from further inside.  He handed Ezekiel the box, and upon opening found a small book with a red leather binding; the passport.

Ezekiel thanked the man with an overeager nod and carried the passport back to his room, where he cheered and leapt into the air, ready for excitement to come.
