Trinity’s face was scrunched in concentration.

She’d wandered into this festival and been instantly captivated by everything she saw. Crowds of people laughed, playing games and eating delicious smelling foods. There were carnival booths and rides, contests and competitions, firework shows, all sorts of entertainment. She couldn’t recall ever being in a place like this before, and at first all she’d been able to do was stand and stare in wide eyed wonder.

But of course, it hadn’t taken her long to find something to get involved in. It all looked like so much fun! Everything cost money, but since she somehow never seemed to be short jewel these days she knew she could afford it -- even if she still didn’t know how she wound up with all the money. The young woman had walked the pathways with a childlike curiosity until a man at a stall coaxed her into trying his game.

It was a series of five challenges involving a number of metal rings of various shapes and sizes. The goal with each was to either take a set of conjoined rings and twist them in such a way that they’d come apart, or to move a ring from one end of the puzzle to another. It hadn’t been difficult for the man running the game to convince her to try. She had been practically bouncing on her toes in excitement as she handed the man some of her money, eager to try her hand at the challenges.

The first two hadn’t been too difficult to figure out, though they had taken a couple minutes. Trinity was, however, stuck on the third one. Her petite nose wrinkled in frustration as she twisted the metal contraption this way and that in her hand but nothing moved how she wanted it to. She was sure she could probably use a bit of strength to force the thing where she needed it to go, but she didn’t want to break the thing. Plus, that would be cheating! So she continued to focus on the devices, her pink and brown hair falling on either side of her face as she huffed in annoyed determination and continued trying to manipulate the rings in her hands.
Please forgive me if I don’t talk much at times. It’s loud enough in my head.

Nathaniel had been to autumn festivals before, especially the ones in Magnolia and in the Mountain Village as he used to lived in both of them at some point of his life. By then he knew each place had a different take on the turn of the season and he was curious to see how Hargeon's would fair. But yeah, he assumed already that there would be similarities as they are all about the same thing, a festival for autumn. Such similarities he noticed were the stalls and foods being sold at festival grounds. And while they were all fun to try out, making Nat smile at every satisfactory purchase he made, he began to notice the sterling difference at the intensity or degrees of festivity the towns brought in of course Magnolia's was the best by far something that was obvious to him being the city of festivity and all, but Hargeon's festival was not so bad.

He happily made his way to each stall to try out their goods and services and he was all to happy about them. Luckily, must of the merchandise he bought so far were food so he wasn't carrying a lot of stuff with him. Now he came into the area of the game booths. They were all too fun and Nat wanted to try them all out too. He viewed them as fun activities that would also be a feat of skill, a self assessment into what he can do which is something he thinks is fun.

He made his way into one of them specifically one involving rings he tried to observe first, getting to see how its done and how one wins. At this time, he noticed a young woman trying to do the challenges. He didn't think about what he did this time, but he did it anyway, possibly out of the spirit of the festival and good will with a dash of camaraderie he cheered on the woman, providing moral support telling her she can do it although not too loud as to break her concentration but just enough to be heard by her and hopefully inspire her to do better.

I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.
Trophies collected: 2 (for winning puzzle challenge)
She really wasn’t paying too much attention to the world around her, fully focused on the task at her fingertips. However, that didn’t stop her from eventually noticing that one man in the crowd had apparently stopped to watch the games and was cheering her on from the side lines. A triumphant expression lit up her face as she passed the next challenge, finally managing to get that stupid little ring to the other side of the metal contraption.

A pair of mismatched eyes that shared the same color as her hair looked up at the blonde gentleman who had been giving her encouragement. Trinity smiled at him brightly, the purest face of innocence one could possibly conceive in a person. She didn’t seem too put off by the fact that he was a complete and total stranger like many people might be. In fact, the woman radiated with a friendly aura that spoke of someone who was always happy to make a new acquaintance and, more than likely, was probably more trusting of people than she probably should be.

She held up the completed puzzle proudly to him, as if to say that his encouragement had helped her win, before hunkering back down to complete the final challenges of the game. It took a few more minutes but somehow, miraculously, she was able to solve all five of the metal brain teasers. The man running the game congratulated her and handed her two trophies, which she collected with a smile.

Afterward, Trinity approached the kind man and offered him a hand to shake by way of thanking him for his efforts. She didn’t say anything, which might have struck him as odd, but at this point the woman was used to most people needing an adjustment period to interacting with someone who was mute. Thankfully, technology had provided her with a much easier way to communicate with others.

She pulled an iLac out of a pocket, juggling the trophies in her arms so she could quickly type on the thing. When she was done, she turned the screen to face him so he could read what she’d written: “Thank you for cheering me on! Are you going to try it? The game was very challenging, but fun. You should give it a shot. Maybe you’ll beat them faster than I did.”

Then, like an afterthought, she typed up something else. “My name is Trinity, by the way. I can’t speak, but I’ll happily stay and cheer you on if you decide to play, like you did for me. Or for another game if you don’t like this one.”
Please forgive me if I don’t talk much at times. It’s loud enough in my head.

Post by Nathaniel Stratford 30th September 2019, 10:00 am

Nathaniel continued to look on at the girl's performance after he had cheered her on. In fact, he continued to cheer her on a couple more times after his initial cheering for her to keep it consistent, meaningful and as well as sincere. However, from where he stood -- which was behind her, only seeing her back -- he couldn't tell if his cheering was working or not. Maybe he was getting in her way? Maybe, maybe not but, and he was so curious to know if it was really and truly effective. He even raised a brow in wonder, desperate to feed his curiosity in finding out if he was helpful at all. So he took a few steps forward, continuing until he was right beside her with only a few meters of distance between them.

And from what he can see, Nat thinks it didn't help as he could not see any physical indication that it worked as he looked upon her, but when he looked at the puzzle she was attempting, he could see that she was doing a great job, perfect even as he saw her get the ring unto the other side. Although not knowing the person, Nat couldn't help but feel happy for her, even so much as clapping his hand together for her. Perhaps it was the festive atmosphere they were in that Nat did these things, influencing his current jolly and friendlier than usual attitude in the current situation but he didn't care he liked it. Maybe he really wanted to go out of his way and make friends and the festival was the perfect excuse. After all, he's still young and there are still more to life than the purging of evil.

After the girl's exemplary performance at the puzzles she solved, turned to Nat with a pair of eyes each bearing different colors. An interesting pair to Nat as he looked deep at them with interest and awe. How are they like that? Magic? Genetics? Whatever the case, it was beautiful. The girl also smiled at him that made Nat smile at her back albeit awkwardly as he feels she's been smiling at her all this time while he was lost in her eyes. The smiles they shared were short however as the girl excitedly went for another one after presenting him with the one she had recently completed. It was at this moment that Nat knew she appreciated what he had done for her and so went on to cheer once more in the final challenge.

Nat watched intently as she attempted them, his eyes fixed on the puzzles she's doing excited to see her finish. And finish she did after only mere minutes and it was impressive. The man in charge gave her two trophies which were absolutely gorgeous and Nat can't help but smile a big smile for her accomplishment. Once she had received them she went over to Nat quietly and he met her half way, eagerly walking towards her with a smile. She extended her hand for a hand shake which Nat realized quickly, meeting her hand soon after it was fully extended. However, she didn't introduce herself so he thought that maybe he should go first. "Hi there, nice skills. I'm Nat what's your name?" he replied. However the reply was something he had not expected it was by the form of taking out her iLac which Nat found out at first but he knew there had to be a logical explanation for it so he simply stood there and waited for the events to unfold.

"Ohhhh..." he mused along with his head slowly rising up after he had leaned in slightly to read what the girl whose name was Trinity had presented to him. It appears Nat's new friend is unable to speak, but that didn't hinder their communication and Nat was happy to adjust.

Now it seems she would like to go with him and try out a few stalls and win some prizes himself and she'll cheer for her. Immediately, his heart swelled up at Trinity's kindness she was a really nice person and simply nodded at her invitation to cheer for him. "Well it's very nice to meet you Trinity. Actually I would love it if you would come with me. There's this target shooting stall I've been eyeing earlier. I'd love it if you would cheer me on there." he replied looking deep into her eyes and not at her phone, trying his best to make her feel normal and that nothing was wrong with her. He then took a step back with one foot and turned his body and offered Trinity to walk with him towards the target shooting stall only a couple of feet away from the puzzle solving stall.

Nat had arrived in front of it, starring at the the two variations of the game. Narrowed eyes gazed at them intently, choosing wisely which of them to go for as he rubbed his chin. While they equally proved to be a challenge, Nat settled at the variation of tossing sacks of sands into small rings. Once he had made his decision he called upon the attendant, accompanied by raising his hand towards him beginning their exchange of jewels for a few sacks of sands to throw. The game was set and he was ready, looking at Trinity before he made his first shot.

    Trinity
I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.

The man introduced himself as Nat. If he was staring too long at her peculiar eyes, she didn’t seem to notice. Truthfully, Trinity was used to people being taken back by them. While heterocromia wasn’t exactly common, it wasn’t unheard of either. The purity of her own personality was such that she had no qualms about returning the eye contact with ease and comfort as she smiled, fully content with the idea of making a new friend. Not that it would last. The friendships never lasted. Eventually she would black out again, wake up in some unfamiliar place, probably smelling like death or covered in blood. She was completely unaware of what transpired during those moments, and frankly they scared her, but it was an undeniable part of her existence that made it almost impossible for her to form true, lasting friendships. The only one who had lasted longer than the others was Ehoron, and even now she had still managed to get separated from him.

So, she did the next best thing: she tried her hardest to stay positive, to not think about those dark moments, and to at least be as friendly as possible with everyone she did meet while she was conscious enough to know what was happening around her. Being kind to others was how she coped with the often traumatizing state of her existence.

Nat took her inability to speak in stride, quickly adapting to her version of communicating. Her offer to return his friendliness with her own was openly welcome, and he invited her to join him at some of the other stalls, grateful for her support. Specifically, there was a shooting gallery he wanted to try. Her eyes lit up at the idea as though she were quite interested in seeing how that game was done, and Trinity eagerly nodded her agreement. The young woman practically bounced on her toes as she walked beside him, her trophies cradled delicately in her arms.

The game he had in mind wasn’t too far from the one she’d just completed. They had only walked a few feet, during which time she’d been heavily distracted by the scent of caramel apples that were being sold by a cart vendor. Trinity was easily distracted by sweets, particularly since she’d never had them growing up. As Nat set himself up at the bean bag station, she slipped some jewel to the vendor and bought a couple of the delightful smelling treats. She’d never had a caramel apple before, so she was practically salivating at the thought of trying one. The second, of course, would be for Nat whenever he was done.

By the time Nat was set up and turned to her, he’d find her almost comically standing behind him with her trophies tucked awkwardly under her arms in such a way that she could have a hand free for each of the two apples. She was trying desperately to get a solid bite into one, but it was hard to do without her second hand free to keep the stick from bending back a bit when she tried to consume the thing. Her eyes caught his when he glanced back at her, probably knowing that her support and encouragement would be more silent than another person’s, and for a split second she looked very much like a deer in headlights. Or perhaps, more accurately, like a child that was caught with her hand in a cookie jar.

But she had a job to do, and that was more important than the caramel apples! Trinity pulled away from the treat and started to lift her arms to give him a silent cheer. Clearly, she’d forgotten that her arms were full. The trophies were nearly dropped but she recovered quickly before doing so, with a slightly panicked expression on her face. Once that was settled, she grinned at him again, albeit a bit sheepishly, waving the caramel apples around on their sticks like little pom poms and wiggling in place happily to assure him that she was watching. The most he would ever hear from her would be the occasional gasp of suspense or delight depending on whether or not he made the targets each time he tossed a bag, but it would be more than enough for him to know that he had her full attention, and at any point if he turned around he would find her still smiling brightly and standing on her toes to bring her rather short form up high enough to see everything clearly.
Please forgive me if I don’t talk much at times. It’s loud enough in my head.

Post by Nathaniel Stratford 2nd October 2019, 2:36 am

Nat turned to see a very adorable view of his new friend Trinity with a couple of delicious looking caramel apple treats on her hands with the trophies she had won earlier tucker under them. It was really so adorable! Especially when she tried to wave at him causing her trophies to almost fall but catching them almost right away, a display of incredible reflexes that impressed Nat and smiled afterwards that he though was cute too as he smiled back at her. This got him thinking about why a girl like her is alone in a festival like this surely with her personality she had numerous friends all wanting to hang out with her since she was really kind and good looking.

But alas, there was some targets to knock over and he was more determined than before knowing Trinity was there to support him a friend he had made all on his own and not by some sheer convenience like being in the same guild. The smell of delicious food around them especially the sweet desserts around them could not distract Nat's focus right now, he was going to win this challenge and he was going to do it perfectly.

He held to the bean bag he was given by the stall attendant, getting used to the weight it possessed as well as eyeing the distance between him and the targets. He used to throwing things since one of his most valuable spells involved throwing a ball of fiery light at an enemy. He took his time carefully aiming at the rings in front of him. This was going to be simple for a man who has been training for most of his life and he smirked about it it was almost unfair really. But he heard rumors that sometimes these games can be rigged against the player and he was about to find out if despite that he can make the shot.

Raising his hand with the bag by the side of his face, Nat could visualize a line in his mind which would be the ball's trajectory. Right now he was used to the ball's weight and how much force the throw needed to propel it appropriately into them. He took his first shot applying a minimal amount of power to the throw making it a seemingly nice tear drop into the rings not touching the rims. Satisfied with his first performance, Nat's smirk became a smile feeling good about himself on knowing that his calculations were correct.

He repeated this until all the bags he was given were all in rings. Looking at Trinity each time he made a shot. Seeing her so happy and on her toes, it felt more heartwarming and sincere as would any other words of encouragement would do, perhaps even more. The awe making sounds she could make were adorable as well and Nat only felt happier and determined with every glance.

The attendant in awe of a flawless performance gave him his prize, a trophy almost similar to the two Trinity. Happily receiving it, Nat turned towards his new friend to thank him for her support "I never would have made it if it wasn't for you, Trinity. Thanks a lot." he said to her bowing his head afterwards and offered her another invitation. "I can help you with your stuff if you want. You seem to have your hands full. And is there any other place you might wanna check out, friend?" ending it with a small and an extended hand as his other held on to his new trophy.

    @Nathaniel Stratford

This post marks the beginning of a new free form to continue after the completed event thread.
Crisis averted, Trinity watched with anticipation as Nathaniel took the bean bag and lined up his shot carefully. He appeared to be judging the weight of the item and calculating the distance between him and his target. It was fascinating to watch how focused he was on the task, and his efforts were not  in vain. Nat tossed the little bag and it went through the intended hoop without even hitting the sides! She gasped in surprise, obviously awed by how easily he’d managed his trick, and how effortless he’d made it look. When he turned to see her again, her jaw was dropped a little, her discolored eyes wide in shock for only a moment before she grinned encouragingly at him.

By the time he finished playing, not only had he won but he’d done so about as perfectly as someone could. Trinity was beside herself. How had he done it so flawlessly? She hadn’t sensed any magic. He was just that good, it seemed! She was in full wiggle mode when he returned to her with his own trophy in hand, practically beaming at him. He thanked her for her support, silent though it had been, and offered to help lighten some of her load. Rather than have him carry the trophies for her, Trinity held out the caramel apple she’d gotten for him. Once he took that then it would leave her hand free to help steady her own treat so she could actually eat it without making a fool of herself.

With one trophy under either arm, she finally managed to get a bite in on the thing. She’d never had a caramel apple before, and she was a bit blown away by how delicious it was! The sweetness of the caramel paired with the tartness of the apple in a way Trinity had never experienced. Humming with delight, she looked at the treat with wonder as she chewed the bite and swallowed it. By the time Nat asked her if she was interested in doing anything else, Trinity was already savoring her next mouthful.

As she consumed the snack, her gazed panned thoughtfully around them to see what else the festival had to offer. There were a lot of other booths with games, but truthfully she wasn’t sure that either of them wanted to walk around all evening carrying more prizes. There were other games that were more for the experience, though, such as a maze made out of stalks of corn. There were also some small rides that looked like fun. She’d never been on one before, so she lingered there for a moment before seeing the sign for the fireworks, which were also new to her.

It was honestly a difficult decision for her. She wanted to do it all! Everything here was a brand new experience for her, and her attention kept getting pulled in every direction. The fireworks at least were easy to decide on. She checked the time on her iLac -- a device with a bright pink case and cute little charm hanging off of it. The fireworks wouldn’t start for another hour and a half, so they had some time to do other things before then.

One thing was certain: Despite how friendly she was, it was more than obvious that she truly was here by herself. She never made any kind of indication about finding other friends or family that she might have been with. Clearly she wasn’t in any active state of distress or confusion, but Nathaniel would absolutely be right in thinking it odd.

After giving it a minute or so of thought, she made a choice. With what was left of her apple in one hand and her trophies under her arm, she took his hand with her free one and pulled him eagerly toward the maze.
Please forgive me if I don’t talk much at times. It’s loud enough in my head.

Trinity's reply to Nat's invitation was met first with a delicious caramel apple she had been carrying all this time as she watched him play. With a smile on his face, Nat graciously and happily accepted the treat as it certainly was better than any other trophy he could have won in any of the booths in the festival. He took a bite of the sweet treat and by god was it delicious. Nat was so fond of it that he thought of making a cheesecake flavor inspired by it. He even had his eyes closed when he was chewing, savoring every bit of it in his mouth.

At the intervals that he could see Trinity, he was surprised to see hers was already gone and he was worried he might be taking too much of their time hurriedly finished his as well. And now that his one hand if free once more, Nat offered to help her with her trophies again but was instead surprised to see the beautiful girl take his hand instead and lead them to the corn maze seemingly wanting to go there with him. Nathaniel's face colored a pinkish red as she held his hand it was really unusual as she could have just told him with her iLac that she wanted to like before. Why would she hold his hand now? Was there a reason, or was he just reading too much into this? Whatever the answer was, he would not find out as they had apparently arrived at Trinity's desired destination. "Oh you want to go in there?" Sure I'll take you." he said, having a questioning and clueless tone at first, only to become insistent on the second statement right before he took her hand this time and lead them in.

Stepping through the portal, still holding Trinity's hand Nat looked at her with confidence and held her hand tighter while saying "Stay close to me ok, Trinity? I'd hate to lose you in this maze." happily as he looked at her eyes since he can't help but be mesmerized by it. And being the first friend Nat has made outside of Dies Irae, he'd really want to get to know her more.
