It was a rather simple mission that came across their board. A simple retrieval and return mission. But when she met with the client, the mission showed its dark side. The caravan was a well guarded transport wagon that was holding a very special book. The client wanted the book brought back, unopened. For the jewels being offered, the book must be of some decent value and not just a journal that could incriminate a minor crime lord. The caravan was leaving Hunting Village heading to Crocus. There were plenty of areas it would be crossing through, but the ideal place would be after Mt. Hakobe. It would be their most dangerous area to pass and takes them the furthest from other towns.

In Mt. Hakobe, would be where she started this operation. Subterfuge, stealth and manipulation were as much weapons for her as her bow. She rented a room at the local Inn along the main road and covered her guild mark with a bit of makeup. She was doing something shady, so she did not want her guild dragged in on this. While normally she was in dresses all the time for combat, she decided to on a different look. Her outfit consisted of black leather breeches, with a dark purple tunic wrapped around her torso. Her chest had a flame inspired red breast plate with matching red pauldrons. Around her right wrist was a simple black leather strap that on top looked like parallel lines but under her wrist it crossed as an x. The left arm had an archery bracer to protect her arm from the string. A red belt with side armor over her right hip made the tunic fit to her body and held it in place. Red leather grieves and faux strapped boots protected her feet. Around her neck was a red leather gorget. A bit of extra cover for her guild as well as armoring. She set a thigh length black wig over her short blue hair. This was held in place by a gold colored leather crown. The pins moving through the preaffixed holes and latching to her hair. A pair of brown color change contacts would complete the transformation. Nothing entirely magical about it, but it would work

The inn had a shooting gallery on the side, so she set herself out there so she could look like she was preparing for a hunt, as well as pick her target. With the clacking of the horses pulling into town, she lined up and fired off a few shots at the target. Taking her time. Making sure her body posture was highlighted. As the caravan passed, she seemed to have caught the eyes of a couple of the guards and one of the mage escorts on Tiger back. Tiger mounts. Interesting choice. The caravan stopped at the inn and the commander, a tall strapping male weilding a wicked looking staff. He was in leather armor as well, but the rich purple had a more menacing looking than hers. A long blue robe and purple layered pointy hat made certain it was not subtle he was a mage. It was almost like eh wanted to scream out "I know magic, do not try us." After he posted up watch orders, he and a couple of guards walked into the tavern and inn.

She gave them a few minutes. Plucked a few more arrows into the target. Other guards started watching her as she fired. In case the commander was a dud, she could attempt to infiltrate using one of the other guys that were eyeing her with grins. She stopped when the first claw mark appeared on her arm. She sighed and waved her hand towards her face to cool down, giving the guards a smile as she walked back in. As she walked towards the bar, she saw the commander and the guards at a table conversing and eating. The commanders headgear removed and sat to the side. Her had long bright lavendar hair, straight with flat bangs in the front. If it wasn't for the adam's apple he could pass for a Princess. The three got quiet as she passed in front of them. After ordering a meal and drink, she walked over to thier table and smiled. "Good Evening Gentlemen. Do you mind if I sit with you?"

Her body posture was more on the flirtaious side; tilted hips, one knee slightly bent forward, shoulders dropped, chest out, and head tilted slightly. The three stood up and held out a hand to offer her a seat. She sat next to the commander and set down her meal. [b]"It is so rare to see so many guards this far out in the boonies. Where are you heading to?"

The commander was the one to speak up. "Just a little delivery mission to Crocus."
She moved forward and rested her chin on her hand, eyes half way open with a smile. "So you will be taking the sheltered road? For one wagon? I can see why you would want so many guards this time of year."

The younger of the two guards gulped audibly. "What do you mean, Ma'am?"
Snag! The fish was on the line. Time to reel it in. "Well this is Dododox mating season. And the sheltered road goes right through thier mating grounds." This got all of them to look to each other. Unsure what to make of this information. "Wait, you guys aren't from around here. So you don't know about the Dododox. Terrifying bird. Each one as big as your wagon and completely stupid. They have four toes on each talon and razor sharp claws six inches long and love to eat large mammals. They will attack anyone that may even appear to be approaching thier nest. There is a dark green Dododox about six hours march from here. He killed a traveling merchant and his four guards. The mage escort made it back, told the tale, and then died on the edge of town."

The other guard leaned forward. Obviously a little shaken. "How are you aware of this then?"
Mizumi leaned forward, arching her back a little to show off her curves to the commander. "Because, good sir, I was hired to exterminate it." This set all of them at ease a bit and they could nod in acknowledgment. Before she sat back, she turned her head to the commander and let the tip of her tongue grace her lips before she slowly sat back. He very noticeably blushed. Moving closer, she leaned in to whisper to him. Each word causing her to stiffen up more before he sat down his fork.

He then cleared his throat and grabbed his hat. "Well if it is to make sure the citizens are safe. I suppose I can help you with armor maintenence and prepare spells." Mizumi stood up, leaving her sandwich on the table next her drink and setting her bracer next to it. She then walked upstairs with the commander following. The two guards gave each other a knowing smile and watched the two disappear to the rooms.

Ten minutes later, Mizumi returned to the table, lightly glowing with sweat and she just sat down at her sandwhich, taking a bite. "He's going to need thirty or so." The younger guard started laughing.

After the sandwich and conversation, and hour later, Mizumi reattached her bracer and smiled to the two. "Hope to see you all in Crocus. Once you get there, ask for Hanahi at the Wormwood tavern." She then left the tavern and started down the road. She had her way in, but to get out, she needed as much nature as possible.

About five hours down the road, she decided to start setting up her trap. Considering normal guard watches, she would have a three hour head start. She would need the time to find a few animals to attack her. She tracked some footprints along the road, soon finding a pride of cougars eating a fairly large beast. She had to focus to deactivate her natural bane before moving to put the cats between her and the road. After a couple hours, she could see the shine of the armors coming through the trees. Now was the time. She Pulled a single arrow and let it loose, grazing the nose of the biggest. With their attention, the three felines raced towards the danger and pounced. After just a few seconds of being clawed and mauled, she let loose her Mage Bane spell, sending them dashing away, crossing immediately before the guards. She let out a strangled "HELP!" loud enough so they could hear it.

Within moments, two of the guards and one of the lower mage guards appeared. One of the guards was the young man from earlier. "Get the commander, she's badly hurt." He immediatelly went into his aid kit and began tending to her wounds. The damage was not life threatening, but she had just been mauled by three predators after marching for five hours and being awake for ten hours before that. Letting herself fall asleep would sell her being rendered unconsious.

After a restful nap, she found herself inside the wagon. Her gear to her left and a small chest to her right. The wagon was covered from all sides. The commander was sitting on a bench with his staff on the ground. "Oh you are awake. We saw the cougars running and thought it might be the Dododox. It seemed it got the best of you today. Lance tended to your wounds, but he couldn't heal it completely. So we are taking you to Crocus where our healers can take care of it."

Mizumi crossed her hands on her now exposed and bandaged stomach. "My Hero." Her voice whispered as she beckoned him closer. He stepped from the bench and came closer to hear what she had to say. Once he was close enough, she threw her arms around his head and pulled him atop herself in a deep kiss. After a few seconds, she rolled him over on the ground, swiftly grabbed her bow while straddling his stomach, knocked and arrow and fired it between his eyes. With the commander falling limp and silent. She moved quickly to the chest, busting the wood around the lock and removing the book. Once she had what she needed, she activated her Hide in Sight spell.

When the driver looked back in to the commotion, he saw the commander dead in the bed of the wagon and the chest open, he pulled the horses to a halt. When the back flap burst open, Mizumi used the confusion to slip out the side and into the woods. Her mission accomplished and only one causalty.

It took a few days for her to get to the contracter's town. She had healed by now using her Healthy Eating Spell. Turning the book over to the contractor, she had to let out a sigh. The jewels were handed over in a discrete bag. "So out of curiosity. What is this book you had me retrieve?"

The contractor, a woman in a dark cloak simply held it up. "Oh this. Its the first printing of Terry Darringer's new novel. Hireling." Mizumi could not beleive she risked her life and well being for a romance novel. Let alone a trashy one. She read the first volume, Tusked Love and was not at all sold on the writing style. But it paid in jewels and got this listing off her guild's board so the innocent members only there for research were not tempted to the dark side. She could consider that Mission Accomplished. With her bag and jewels in hand, she headed out. It was going to take a week to get back to the Phoenix Mountains by foot. Maybe there was a wagon she could hire to ride back in. Maybe she could even use the Dododox story again.
