    Spoiler:

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

A week or so had passed since Mythal and Serilda had returned from the desert. All things considered, it was a relatively uneventful journey back home, with each one staying together only long enough to deliver the news to the Magic Council of their actions. They were commended and applauded and it all became a bit much for the God Slayer. And after that they had split apart, barely speaking any words of departure and returning back to their guilds – and arguably their old lives. Mythal couldn’t honestly remember that first night; he had drank enough to put him practically into a coma.

But as the days passed, life moved on and so did the Fairy Tail wizard. There were still jobs to take on and jewel to make so he simply catalogued what had happened and turned the metaphorical page. It felt good to leave it where it was and understand that it must have been the emotions and the adrenaline. Each of them had been too worked up and agitated and they were able to get it out and move forward. Clearly they weren’t going to run into each other often, being in too separate guilds. It had been mere happenstance that they’d taken on two jobs together, right?

Wrong. Oh so terribly wrong. Unfortunately, Mythal and Serilda had actively and assuredly impressed the Magic Council. That meant that when a rather dangerous but similar job came up, there were only two names that came to mind. Mythal couldn’t miss the job posting; his name was marked at the top of it in big, bold letters. As his eyes scanned the description, his mouth dropped further and further into a scowl. “Are they serious…?” he practically growled out. His first inclination was to tear the posting to shreds and forget about it. But then he saw the jewel being offered and… well, it was hard to pass that up.

Mythal had been to Hargeon a few times at this point, having done a handful of jobs and drank more than a handful of alcohol. The last time he had been here, he easily blended in with the slums and the poor that hid among the more decrepit parts of the town. But now, only a few weeks out since he had ventured here, he looked like a new man. His clothes were new and clean; he wore a fitted gray and white button down shirt, with sleeves that Mythal himself had folded back to reveal the black interior lining. His pants were smooth and lacking wrinkles, an even dark gray that ran right down to his jet-black boots. A blood red cape clung to his shoulders, attached to his collar and hanging down to his knees. It was the only thing that was raggedy about him yet it almost seemed like he was wearing it to prove a point.

His face looked fresher too; probably he was actually showering and caring for himself. His hair was still a bit of a jumbled mess but it almost looked like it was form fitted to that ‘rolled out of bed’ look. He still wore a bit of a scowl as he looked out over the bay but he looked rested, like he’d been sleeping in a bed. And he had; the old man’s house bequeathed to him had practically changed his entire lifestyle. He had a place to go home to at the end of the day and a bed to crawl into when he had drunk too much. He could shower now whenever he wanted without having to search for a pond or lake. And, as any that had lived as homeless as he, he never took it for granted.

The agreed meeting spot had been the docks by the bay. Supposedly the industrial section was home to the slaving operation and the best way to get there, without drawing attention was through the underdecks by here. He was feeling… better about this job. There was no chance of them being stuck together for a long period of time so tensions should, arguably, remain low to nothing. All they had to do was get in, free the slaves, capture the leaders and get out. Simple.

"Character counts most when duty calls."

Well, she had officially caught the eye of the Magic Council -- in a good way. Her parents had been quite pleased when they got her letter. They had already heard about it, of course, which had made them all the more proud to know that their eldest daughter’s name was floating around the mouths of people commending her for a heroic deed. For her part, Serilda had accepted the praise from the Council graciously. She wasn’t nearly as uncomfortable about it as Mythal had been. It was a shock he hadn’t tried to disappear into his shadow again and make an early exit. The two wizards parted ways without much of a farewell, each assuming that the likelihood of them running into one another again was slim, anyway.

They were both wrong. With the Council’s eye on them, they were now being specifically requested for similar jobs, it seemed. The request had come in to Sabertooth with her name on it, and the details of the job affirmed that they had requested Mythal to join her. It seemed a silly thing for her to be upset or worry over, so she chose not to. A job was a job, and if the Council -- particularly the Rune Knights -- was requesting her personally then she would be there. Serilda believed in her ability to remain professional around Mythal, particularly now that enough time had passed for her to come to terms with their prior run in.

A soft wuff caught her attention, and Serilda looked down by her feet. Xiuhcoatl put her paws up on the woman’s lap and demanded her attention. The pup was bored, a common trait for her breed. She reached down and scratched the young wolf behind her ears with a small smile. “Very well. You shall come on this job. I think you are ready for a real test, and I may need your nose.” Serilda tapped Xiuhcoatl gently on the nose and the pup, understanding the tone if not the words, wiggled with excitement.

Before long, Serilda had made her way to Hargeon Town and was heading toward the designated meeting space at the docks. She was dressed in her typical uniformed style, not a single wrinkle in her clothes, with her hair pinned into a tight bun on her head. Her sword was strapped to her hip, and as she walked she casually observed her surroundings to see if there was anything worth taking note of. Occasionally the pup would get distracted by this smell or that bug, but a single click of Serilda’s tongue brought the wolf right back to heel.

Mythal was already there when she arrived, and she had to control her surprise. He looked… well, good. He was clean, his clothes were new and fit him quite well. While she had gotten over their last encounter enough to not treat him differently today, she couldn’t stop herself from openly taking note of how his current state vastly contrasted how he typically looked. She found herself respecting him a bit more, if begrudgingly.

“Good afternoon,” Serilda greeted him easily, her voice as even as it always was. As far as Mythal would be able to tell, she didn’t seem at all awkward about being in his presence. “You are looking well.”

As soon as she had stopped to talk to him, the wolf had sat obediently at her feet. Xiuh was still a puppy but not for long. By her size, he could probably guess her to be around nine months in age, just old enough to be working. She had a beautiful, thick black coat over most of her body, but her face and spine were adorned with a lighter cream color than ran in spots appearing almost like stardust. Her tail was bushy like a fox’s, but she had the face of a wolf. She looked up at Mythal with an intense but cautious curiosity.

“This is my hound, Xiuhcoatl. I have been training her to hunt, and this seemed a good opportunity to test how well she’s been learning, so I decided to bring her along.” Serilda looked down at the pup, who looked back up at her with big, dark eyes. She could sense the animal desperately wanted to know how she should be treating Mythal. “Xiuhcoatl: Allieret.”

She spoke the foreign word clearly, making sure she understood. The pup certainly did, because she gave a quiet wuff of acknowledgement and her tail started to twitch with excitement. Xiuh wanted nothing more than to approach Mythal and lather him with attention, but sat with obedience… if not patience. “Til lethed.” Permission granted, Xiuh practically leaped onto her feet and hurried over to the man, sniffing his feet and wagging her bushy tail eagerly.

While they introduced themselves to one another, Serilda asked, “I’m assuming you know about as much as I do at this point. How do you want to go about this?”

    Spoiler:

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

Mythal was off in his own headspace as Serilda approached him, his thoughts running rampant over other such matters. For his current situation, he was annoyed than anything else and amazingly, it wasn’t at the pairing of himself and Serilda again. Partnering with her wasn’t going to be a problem; what was truly bothersome was the fact that the council had taken notice. At one point, he had almost told the woman to go to the Magic Council herself and take all the glory for her own gain. He would be just fine without anyone important stopping to wonder about him. Yet he hadn’t, if only because he knew she wouldn’t do that. No, she was apparently bound by some kind of code of honor that would have forced her to give him credit where it was due. He had just hoped that by appearing once, he could get his jewels and forget the entire thing had happened. But such was his luck.

Her courteous greeting caught his attention, his eyes flicking away from the ocean before him and over to her. He met her gaze evenly, showing an equal amount of calm when it came to seeing her. Though the remark about him looking well… that was odd. Something about it just felt… strange. Not so much the remark itself – even he could admit he didn’t look like a dirty rag anymore – but just the phrasing of it. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it. He opted not to concern himself over it. “Yeah, you too,” he said with a nod.

That’s when he was introduced to her hound, Xiuhcoatl. She would instantly see the difference in him; his body seemed to relax and, could it be, a smile managed to creep onto his face. Humans were one thing to Mythal; arguably things he didn’t enjoy being around. But animals were entirely different – they were the epitome of perfect to him. He was indifferent to what species he was encountering, almost always preferred meeting a pet or animal over a human being. And it showed almost instantly. He watched with an amused grin as she struggled to stay in her place, obeying her master’s orders but her tail betraying her excitement. Once she was relieved of her duty and she wandered over to him, he bent down and offered his hand to her, so she could get his scent in her nose. Then he ran his hand over her head, scratching right behind the ears and patting her upper body. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Xiuhco,” he said, already giving her his own nickname for her.

He had almost completely forgotten Serilda was there until she spoke up again. “Eh?” He asked, looking up at her in confusion. That’s right; they were here on a job. He gave Xiuhcoatl another scratching on her chin before he stood back up. “Another slave job, though this one seems a bit more… organized,” he said, crossing his arms over his chest and shrugged. “We don’t want them killin’ the slaves they got so we’ll have to sneak in. We should free the slaves before we cause any trouble, just so they don’t get hit or nothin’,” he explained easily.

He pointed towards the lower docks before them. “There’s a path of lower level docks that move along the skirts of the bay and right to the industrial section. We need to keep an eye out for anyone that looks… out of place, I guess,” he figured that plan as simply as possible. It wasn’t much to go on at the moment but that was because they didn’t have much to go on period. They would just have to head there and figure it out as they went. Once they were settled, he waved her on and led her down the stone steps to the lower docks. To call them docks was… a compliment. They were essentially wooden plants that rested right on the surface of the water and were held up by some hefty nails and prayers. Each step would cause the current flat to sink gently, pushing water up between the cracks and flooding their walkway.

But it was the best way… apparently.

Liberation of Slaves Empty Re: Liberation of Slaves

Post by Serilda Sinclair 8th December 2018, 12:49 pm

"Character counts most when duty calls."

Somehow Serilda wasn’t surprised that the man was leagues more at ease with the animal than with her. Mythal smiled almost immediately, and looked more at ease than she’d ever seen him. The other wizard waited with decidedly more patience than the hound did for the greeting. When Xiuhcoatl was given leeway to behave how she wanted, he knelt down to greet her and let her get her fill of his scent. The pup thoroughly enjoyed the petting, her long tongue lolling out of the side of her mouth with an unmistakable and dorky dog grin on her face. Even Serilda found herself smirking at the sight of the two of them, amused.

Once that greeting was over, they got back to business. When he mentioned wanting to free the slaves first so as not to get them in trouble, Serilda managed to hold back her sarcastic thought, her face once again the expressionless facade she typically wore. However, she couldn’t help but think back to the last mission and how he’d lost his head at the sight of people chained up last time. She wondered if he would show more discipline this time, hoping he’d learned his lesson. Time would tell, but he’d earned enough of her respect by this point for her to at least keep the thoughts to herself and give him the benefit of the doubt.

“We’ll have to see what we’re working with when we find them, I think,” she offered in thought. “If they’re chained up and able to move freely we should be able to, but if they’re locked up in a cage somewhere that might be the safest place for them until we’re done.” No one liked to be in a cage, but if the bars were keeping them distanced from other people with weapons… well, it was sometimes preferable until the chaos was settled. They would simply have to play it by ear.

Mythal mentioned a lower path that ran beneath the docks as a good place for them to start. Serilda nodded in agreement and then followed him where he lead. “Hæl,” she said to Xiuhcoatl, and the pup stepped back into line with her. The Slayer brought them to a row of planks over the water that looked as though they were barely holding together. But the path did offer some decent cover, at least, for trying to see without being seen.

They walked for a time in silence, both of them focused on their mission and keeping an eye out. They were passed by the occasional fisherman using the lower docks to keep out of the way of the heavier foot traffic above. There were many ships setting sail today, and Serilda wasn’t sure where they would even begin to figure out clues for narrowing down which ship they wanted. It wasn’t until she caught a glimpse of a familiar face that the gears in her head started to turn.

She reached out and stopped Mythal with a hand on his shoulder without looking away from the person above them. Serilda could see the man through a large crack in the upper docks. He was in his early forties with graying hair and a few missing teeth. There was a distinctive scar on his shoulder. Where had she seen him? The woman was quiet in recollection for a second or two and then it came to her. “That man… I saw him just the other day when I was here in town. He approached me while I was in the market, asked me a lot of weird questions until I told him to mind his own business. He left me alone after that and I didn’t think much of it at the time, but... these people that have gone missing. They’re all women, right?”

Serilda looked at Mythal, a suspicious look in her eye. Not suspicious of Mythal, of course, but more at the encounter she’d just described to him. Had the guy been trying to case her? At the time she had just assumed he was trying to be friendly and Serilda, particularly after her last encounter with Mythal and the mental state she’d been in for several days following, had simply not been in the mood to deal with a man trying to charm her up. Looking back, though, the questions had been very personal. Questions about who she was, where she was going, if her “boyfriend” was the jealous sort -- general questions that strange men asked under the veil of charisma to try and get important details about a woman.

It wasn’t a clue so much as a hunch, but that was more than they had thirty seconds ago…

Liberation of Slaves Empty Re: Liberation of Slaves

Post by Mythal Ragnos 8th December 2018, 12:51 pm

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

This dog was adorable; a sentiment that Mythal didn’t throw around all that often but it was undeniable. She was obedient to Serilda to a sharp point but when she was allowed to relax and be herself, she was just a friendly, happy looking canine. It was almost enough to make him consider getting his own pet. He’d never really thought about it before but then again, he’d never known where he was going to land before. Now that he had an actual home, he could actually consider having some kind of pet there to meet him. It was something to consider, at the very least.

He met her gaze evenly as she explained her thoughts on the matter. She raised a fairly good point that getting the slaves out might not be the best option. If there were far too many possible gears in motion, it was possible someone could get drastically hurt. He didn’t like the idea of leaving people in cages but cages were barriers both to those inside and outside of it. Using it to keep the people safe was a fair option. “Good point,” he answered her, giving her a brief but curt nod. No point in planning too far ahead until they knew what they were up against.

The path was uneven, wet and probably a bit dangerous during storms but it provided the best means of traveling from their position. They walked along without a word being passed between them, the God Slayer taking his usual stride and putting his hands in his pockets as they went. Several people passed by them, unimportant faces that were merely going about their days. Mythal never met any of their gazes, despite several watching after the two of them oddly. It was strange for a man and a woman to be walking down here and in absolute silence.

Her hand came forward to stop his forward momentum and he halted on a dime. She already knew about his resistance to touch from other humans, having explained in brief why he felt almost completely disgusted by them. So her touching him meant that she had no other option. He turned his head to look back at her slowly, though there was no hostility in his gaze or movement. In fact, he seemed less bothered by her hand on his shoulder and more interested in her reason. She was looking upwards and his eyes followed her. He had to walk a bit backwards to see between the planks like her and as he spotted the grotesque man, she began to rattle off her thoughts.

So this guy had asked some questions about her, ones that were trying to uncover information. It wasn’t unusual for creepy men to do that to women but it was a bit strange for them to pry so hard whilst also being in a town with an enslavement problem. “Yeah, all women,” he muttered gently, now looking at the man with a more focused gaze. If someone looks like a crook, there was a good chance they were one. And this guy with the beaten mouth and open scar looked just the kind to try and kidnap women. “Alright so options,” he spoke quietly, turning his eyes to meet hers. “We can trail him back to wherever he goes and see if he’s a real sketch. We could also grab him all hush hush and convince him to talk. But if he’s innocent, we just pounded on a civvie. I’d personally prefer to trail the ugly mug and see what we can see.” And then he paused, taking a breath in through his nostrils. “What do you think?”

He was not used to asking what someone else wanted to do; he usually just made a choice and did it for himself. Hell, even when he had partnered with Markus, the other God Slayer had made a choice and delivered it. But in the spirit of wanting to work effectively and not cause any injuries to them, he had to be open. That meant discussing all the options in front of them.

Post by Serilda Sinclair 8th December 2018, 12:52 pm

"Character counts most when duty calls."

In truth, Serilda hadn’t really been thinking about the implications behind touching the man, despite knowing how much he hated it. The act had been more out of instinct, training and discipline quite literally beaten into her over a couple decades that cautioned her to always be as silent as possible during a covert job. She had to take the time to explain to him what had stopped her, of course, but getting his attention in this manner had been more out of what she’d be taught to do than anything else. Though later, perhaps, she would ponder the fact that he hadn’t reacted as badly as he might have otherwise.

Mythal listened to her and eyed the man through the cracks, agreeing that it was a bit strange. He offered a couple suggestions and she gave them some thought, returning his gaze. “I agree that apprehending him before confirming our suspicions is unwise. But I also worry about trailing him. If he recognizes me, that may force him into hiding before we learn anything. It may be better if you trail him alone, and then I follow after a ways. Xiuh can fix on your scent so that even if I lose sight of you, I’ll be able to catch up to you eventually. And I can keep a look out and make sure no one notices you following him.”

Presuming he was amiable to that plan -- not that she imagined he’d be against it, given that it involved him getting to be by himself for a bit -- she got the hound’s attention. Xiuh sat and immediately locked eyes with her mistress, giant floppy ears perked up and alert. Serilda pointed to Mythal. “Lugt.” The pup approached the Slayer again, but this time she was all about business as she sniffed him, searching for the best spots within her reach to get a clear lock on his distinct scent. It took only a few seconds before she issued a soft wuff.

“Alright, we’re good to go,” the woman told him as Xiuhcoatl sat back next to her feet. “We will not be far behind you.”

Serilda would wait until Mythal was out of sight before she moved. The hound waited with barely concealed impatience, watching the target she was supposed to be tracking move further away until he was gone. Once he was out of her line of vision and she gave him a minute or so to get some headway, the woman headed up out of the lower docks after him. “Langsom,” she instructed the hound, keeping the pace of a casual walk.

By the time she got up to the main level of the docks, Mythal and the suspicious man were nowhere to be seen, but she wasn’t worried. Xiuhcoatl would follow her partner’s scent even through the crowds and the smell of the ocean. So she followed behind the pup casually, keeping within a couple feet of her but strolling along the crowded street like she was little more than a pedestrian out for a walk with her curious dog.

Liberation of Slaves Empty Re: Liberation of Slaves

Post by Mythal Ragnos 8th December 2018, 12:52 pm

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

Recognizing her; that was another good point. Scum like this guy wouldn’t just forget about a possible catch, just because some time had passed. They had an eye for such things. “Right…” he mused aloud, scratching his chin. She continued with a thought though; he could trail the guy alone and she could follow after him from some distance. Xiuhco could get his scent in her nose and be able to follow after. It worked out in two fronts; it wouldn’t give away their following and it allowed Serilda space to keep an eye for any possible lookouts. No doubt slavers like this have spies all around to ensure they weren’t discovered.

But Mythal had a counter to that as well. “Sounds good. In fact, I can almost guarantee that they don’t figure me out,” he said, a hint of pride in his voice as he said it. When Serilda got Xiuhco’s attention and ordered her to get his scent, the God Slayer held out his entire arm for the hound so she could inhale as much as she needed. It was almost too bad; if he were as raggedy as he was before, his scent would have been a lot more potent. Once the pup was satisfied and acknowledged the fact with her woof, Serilda nodded and gave him the metaphorical thumbs up. “A’ight. This might be… a bit strange so… just don’t freak out,” he gave her fair warning, backing away slowly from her. And then he turned and leapt towards the water.

The Sky Ring activated immediately and with it, the magical ability in his cloak. The cape swung up and around him in an instant, wrapping the God Slayer in a flash of red linen before it swiftly drained into black. Out of the mass emerged a crow, as black and realistic as any that flew through the skies naturally. The transformed Mythal flapped his wings and set off into the sky, turning just enough to look back at Serilda’s expression. Then he turned his body and soared above the docks, tagging the man with his vision. The tailor in Magnolia had done a fantastic job of remaking the former pirate captain’s outfit but it was the magical essence within it that truly made it unique. After he had been advised to match his magic with it, he found that it almost had a life of its own. And while training with the ring one day, the cape had wrapped around him and transformed him into that of a wild bird. After that, flying became a whole lot easier – and fun.

The man didn’t stay long on the docks, ending his conversation and then walking through the heart of town. Mythal soared above him, casually gliding on the minimal breeze that wafted over the building tops. The supposed slaver didn’t do much socializing, seemingly walking on a mission towards an end goal in mind. He brushed past people, excused himself when he gave too hard of a bump and altogether seemed like any other citizen. It wasn’t until he was on the road towards the industrial section that things started to turn. Once there, he began to weave between buildings and alleys, taking paths that seemed indeterminate and random. Mythal made sure to keep his distance and fly in such a fashion that he merely looked like he was looking for a place to nest. The man popped out from the alleyways into the industrial section, now looking far more suspicious than before. He kept looking over his shoulder to ensure that he wasn’t being followed.

Mythal continued to follow him as he moved through the large streets, now moving at a far brisker pace. He passed through a broken fence and then over a decommissioned boatyard, with several tugs and freighters left to rot on their stands. He was headed towards one of the old factories right on the ocean, worn and aged from lack of use. Several window panes were shattered and bricks that lay in the walls had fallen to the ground and revealed unintended windows into the factory. The man walked right up to the door and tapped on it with his knuckles, three quick raps and then one more after a beat. As Mythal landed on the ground right behind one of the more intact tug boats, he watched as the heavy metal door slid open, with another man pulling it open from inside. They let their target inside and then shut the door behind. “Totally not suspicious…” Mythal mumbled to himself as he lay in wait for Serilda to catch up. Best to figure out the next part of the plan with her there.

"Character counts most when duty calls."

He seemed to have another idea in his mind to help with this particular hunt, an idea that he actually seemed a little eager to try. It was a subtle change in the tone of his voice, but once she did not miss. A single white brow on Serilda’s face rose with interest. Mythal allowed the hound to get a good idea of his scent before pulling his trick.

If he hadn’t given her some kind of warning, it was possible that Serilda might have jumped in surprise, which on these dinghy dock board would likely have meant taking a dip in the ocean. She didn’t know what to expect, but turning into a black bird certainly hadn’t been it -- particularly since Mythal himself had said he wasn’t really much for show when it came to his magic. Certainly if he had performed this stunt in front of anyone else they might have taken it for him showing off, but at this point Serilda knew him better than that. Really what was odd was that he just seemed a little excited, which was an emotion she’d yet to see him display.

The Voidwalker followed behind the trail and her hound at a casual pace, occasionally stopping to browse good at vendor stalls along the docks. Out in the open the path was pretty straight forward, but soon it started turning between buildings seemingly at random. Serilda realized there was little she was going to be able to do to hide her intentions if she got caught in these alleys, and she started mentally preparing herself to run into trouble. There was next to no one back here, so she stood out like a sore thumb.

She had not seen anyone suspicious following the same path as her, either before or behind her. Neither did she ever see Mythal in his crow form at any point, but Xiuh seemed to be very confident in their way forward. Once in a while she would pause and cast her nose through the air to reorient herself, but it never took her longer than a second or two to pick the trail back up. They ran into very few people, but with each turn Serilda felt more and more exposed.

Before long, she ran into exactly the kind of trouble she’d expected to. When she was almost the full way down an alleyway, a man with a sword in one hand and a gun in the other stepped out of a building to block her way. Xiuhcoatl immediately hunched down and gave a low growl, not liking or trusting this stranger. Serilda caught the man’s eyes flick behind her, evidence that someone else had moved in behind her as well.

“Is there a problem?” Serilda asked coolly, stretching her hand toward the hound to make sure she stayed in place.

“You tell me,” The man told her. “We don’t get a lot of unfamiliar faces in these streets. Particularly by people with fancy dogs that look like they should be living in a castle instead of the slums.”

Serilda raised a brow at the man. “Are pedestians not allowed to walk the streets freely here? Am I not allowed to be about my own business?”

He shrugged. “Depends on what your business is. We don’t take kindly to people sniffing around that don’t belong here, and that mongrel of yours is doing an awful lot of sniffing in the wrong directions.”

Well, that was all Serilda needed. They hadn’t caught Mythal going down this way because he was disguised as a bird, but she’d had no such convincing cover. Plus, this man had just insulted her wolf like Xiuh was little more than a mutt with mange. Allowing her invisible magic to channel through her hand, the Voidwalker aimed her spell at Xiuh and rearranged the space in the animal’s body to be able to drop into the ground. Then, Serilda followed suit with her own natural ability to do so, both woman and wolf disappearing beneath the surface of the dirt road.

“Where did they go?!” she heard the other man say, his voice muffled through the ground. The two men began to argue and shout, which was convenient for Serilda because it gave her a better idea of where they were. Commanding the pup to stay put, she drew her sword and walked through the ground until she was beneath one of the men. Then, she repeatedly stabbed up into the air. It took several thrusts before she was able to get a hit; she still couldn’t see them through the ground. But at the first sight of the blade poke up from the path without resistance, and the man gave a knee jerk reaction, firing at the ground by his feet.

This, of course, did not work out well for him. The ground was still quite firm and his bullets ricocheted around him. A cry of pain and a solid thumping sound on the ground alerted Serilda that the man had managed to accidentally shoot himself. This time when her sword unsheathed itself into the open air, it poked into something fleshy. The man screamed again.

Sure that he was too busy worrying about his own injuries, she popped her head out from under the ground long enough to locate the other man. He, too, had a sword and a gun in each hand, and he was turning in circles trying to find any evidence of where Serilda was. By the time he noticed her, she was already dropped back underground. Bullet fire slammed into the dirt where her head had been only moments before.

Rushing forward, Serilda leaped out of the ground and slashed at the spot where the second man had been standing, but he was ready for her. Rather than try to move, he waited for her to emerge and blocked the incoming attack with his sword. Seeing that he was pulling his arm up to aim the gun at her, and knowing she would be hard pressed to survive a point blank shot, Serilda allowed her momentum to drop her back down into the ground.

She managed to avoid a direct shot, but the man was not a stranger to fighting wizards. He compensated the aim of his arm to try and catch her before she fully disappeared, and one of the shots caught her on the leg. Serilda growled in pain, cursing herself for being careless. However, before she could get the chance to recuperate she heard a snarl followed by a pained cry.

    “Get off of me, mutt!”

Well that caught Serilda’s attention. She burst back up to the surface in time to see the guy fling Xiuh off his arm. She’d managed to bite him hard enough that he dropped his gun. Panicked for the safety of her pet, the woman didn’t hesitate to strike while he was distracted. A sword point through his shoulder caused him to drop his sword as well, and her fist to his face knocked him out cold.

After making sure both men were out of sight and properly detained where they weren’t going to go anywhere -- and giving a half hearted chastising to Xiuh about disobeying her order to stay -- the pair soon were able to catch up to Mythal. He would notice she had a strip of cloth tightly tied around one of her thighs, which was slightly saturated with blood. “I apologize for keeping you waiting. A couple slavers decided they wanted to turn themselves in. What did you find?”

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

Mythal waited for what seemed like quite some time. After a bit, he started to get restless; had Serilda gotten lost? It would have been surprising considering she had Xiuhco with her and hounds were well known for their noses. Even with him flying, he should have left an odor trail to follow. He glanced around the corner of the beached boat, eyeing the doorway leading into the factory. Should he just continue forward without her? He grunted gently, weighing his options in the moment. A large part of him wanted to just go on ahead and find the slaves. If he managed to locate them beforehand, he could either get them out or at least know where they were so they could act. That was counting that they became a ‘they’ again – what if the man’s spies had been watching her?

He growled and began to turn away, now with a mind to backtrack and find her. Fairy Tail would not looked upon well if they abandoned the other guild’s partner and caused any issue. This was meant to be a partnered job and the last thing he wanted to hear was about him acting without working with his partner, again. But just as he was getting ready to start moving once more, he spotted her and Xiuhco racing towards him while still maintaining their stealth. He glanced at her leg, noticing the bloody rag that was tied around her thigh. She was quick to explain about the two slavers she had run into on her way there. “As long as they’re handled,” he said quietly, leaning back against the boat.

Once there, he turned and waved her closer so she could peak around too. It meant she had to be close to him, closer than he normally would allow, but once again, there was far more at stake than his need for personal space. He pointed out to the factory, careful to keep his hand tucked so no lookouts could spot him. “Yer toothless friend went in there after doin’ some kind of secret knock. Not the hardest evidence there is but it is a rundown factory in the industry section so… my jewel’s on him being one of the slaver’s.” He pulled back, pressing himself against the boat once more. “I’m gonna shift again and fly around to get an idea of what the buildin’ looks like all around. Shouldn’t take me more than a minute,” he explained, waiting for her to agree.

Once she had, he once again transformed into a crow and took to the air, his wings beating against the air ferociously. He curled through the sky smoothly, turning so that the building was the focal point of his turn. He stared down as he came around the back of the building and his avian eye opened a bit wider upon what he saw. There was a medium-sized barge parked in the water, tied up to the docks that ran up to the building. Several cages were stacked together on the flat part of the boat and, even from this distance, he could see the women shuffling around and squatting in them. A handful of the slavers were locking up the last few women they had brought aboard, clapping each other on the backs in celebration. He watched as they walked off the barge, laughing and talking and leaving the women alone.

He swept down lower, careful to keep his height still above where it might be suspicious. He couldn’t make out anyone within the front of the boat, nor where the steering wheel was. It looked like they had left the women completely alone to head back inside the warehouse. Whether they had more to load up or not, he couldn’t tell but he could see that there weren’t any empty cages on the back of the boat. He flapped his wings and took off again, making sure to make his return arc wide and expansive so as to not draw attention.

When he landed and returned to his normal form, his cape swirling off of him and returning to his back, he stepped up beside her. “Looks like they’re loadin’ them in a boat. Not sure but it looks like all of them are already on it. They don’t seem to be in a rush; most of ‘em are headin’ back inside. Not sure what we have for options; any ideas?”

"Character counts most when duty calls."

Her partner didn’t make any comment about the injury, likely going off of her silent cue to ignore it. The pain was present at the back of her mind, but she had stopped the bleeding for now. The mission was more important and she didn’t intend on letting the wound hold her back. The fight had delayed her so long that Serilda was certain Mythal would have gone ahead without her, but he was still waiting when she snuck up to him and that was something she did log away in her ever growing list of mental notes about the scruffy man.

Mythal motioned for her to move closer so she could see what he was looking at. As she motioned for Xiuhcoatl to stay low, Serilda inched over into the man’s space until she could see, listening as he described his observations. He mentioned that he wanted to shift change again to take a closer look now that she was there, and she nodded in agreement with the idea. As he went about that business, she took the time to double check her makeshift bandaging and resettle Xiuh, who had gotten a little worked up and distracted from the previous fight.

When he came back, he confirmed that the two of them had, indeed, discovered the location of the slaving operation. The Slayer asked her thoughts on a method to proceed, and the woman once more peeked carefully around the corner to eye the location. “How many slavers did you see, and how did they present?” she asked, trying to get a vague idea of the number of people they were up against and what type of trouble they could expect from them. Serilda also asked him for information regarding the layout of the barge that he could see, trying to form a mental picture of what he’d looked at.

Once she felt she had enough decision to make a semi-informed strategy, she told him, “I can get us inside easily if we can get to a spot where we won’t be noticed right away. I think the most important thing is maintaining our stealth. Once they know we’re there, there’s no telling what they’ll do. My magic allows me to temporarily cancel sound within a small radius. If we can approach these guys in small groups at a time and keep the fight within that area, we should be able to attack without drawing any attention to ourselves.”

Once they had settled on the details of the plan, they moved forward. Carefully the two of them sleuthed their way to the barge and found an inconspicuous spot at the bottom of it. Serilda placed her hand on the metal side and called to the void within the barrier, shifting its properties. Wishing to maintain silence, she nodded to Mythal to indicate that he’d be able to walk through the wall like she could. Serilda stepped through first, followed promptly by Xiuh.

Inside, they found themselves in what appeared to be some kind of cargo hold. There were stacks of wooden crates around carrying supplies for the journey, such as food and water. There didn’t seem to be anyone in sight. Serilda hid herself behind one of the boxes and listened carefully. She could hear voices coming from the other end of the hold. Moving slowly and keeping low so the crates would provide her with cover, she moved forward toward the voices until she found them.

There were five men sitting around a makeshift table playing cards and chatting. The Voidmage silently signaled Mythal to give her a moment before starting the fight. The men were mostly shooting shit with each other while they played, but they did mention a couple snippets of information that proved to be important. Namely, that the higher ranking slavers in the ring were up in the captain’s quarters making the final preparations before they were to set sail.

And, interestingly enough, that the captain of the ship was a woman.

Serilda frowned and shook her head with disgust. They had learned all that they could from this group, and time was ticking. She gave Mythal a nod to let him know she was about to cast her spell. Reaching a hand toward the group, an absolute, terrifying silence fell upon the area. The men panicked immediately, falling out of their chairs and looking around in confusion and disorientation, but no matter how hard they tried they could not make any sound.

Liberation of Slaves Empty Re: Liberation of Slaves

Post by Mythal Ragnos 8th December 2018, 12:59 pm

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

Mythal had an idea for a plan but he wasn’t confident in it. And despite his usual mentality of shoot first, ask questions later, there were lives at risk that he couldn’t possible allow to perish. Not only for his sake but for his guild’s and for Serilda; he knew she would never forgive such things to happen. So they had to come up with a plan that worked for them both evenly and completely. Luckily she had an idea and it utilized her abilities; she could apparently cancel out the sound inside of a small bubble for a period of time. That would allow them to dip in, take the punks out and then move on without anything betraying them. If they were seen, that would be the only problem. So they had to be quick. "Better plan than I got,” he admitted with a small shrug, agreeing to the idea.

Carefully and quietly they moved forward, stealthing around the side of the building until the barge was in sight. Once there, they pressed themselves up against the metal bulk and Serilda activated her magic on the wall, making it capable of… stepping through. As he did so quietly, he took a moment to admire the ability, looking at the wall and studying it. Once she and Xiuhco had slipped through into the cargo hold, he turned his attention forward and walked along with her. He heard the voices first, thanks to his enhanced hearing and he took a quiet sniff of the air too. Five different aromas meant five people; he flashed a fully splayed hand for her to indicate the number they were coming up on.

Once they were in position, Serilda asked silently for a moment before they started the fight. Most likely it was to try and gather some information, since the five morons were complaining and whining about their current predicament and other such things. The captain, it seemed, was a woman and she was currently up in the abandoned factory making the final preparations for sending off. At least they knew where they were going after this. She gave him the briefest of nods to indicate that she was ready and Mythal shifted his feet, ready to spring out and jump into the fray. He waited until the spell was active; it was fairly obvious to tell once all five men fell into a panic at the absolute silence that filled their ears.

And while Mythal wasn’t a huge fan of that either, he didn’t have much choice. Attacking with his one ranged attack would be more than loud – it would be downright alarming. So instead he leapt over the boxes he had been crouched behind and charged into the bubble. The effect was instant; his head felt a little light and heavy all at the same time. It reminded him of those rare nights inside, when there was nothing but the ringing in one’s ears. Yet there wasn’t even that ringing. This was what the dead must feel.

But he couldn’t pause to think about it; he had a job. He leapt onto the table and slid across it, planting his foot into the closest man’s chest. He backpedaled but Mythal was already on him, grabbing him by the scruff of his neck and throwing him onto the ground, denting the metal along with it. He twisted and landed a spin kick on one of the others, causing the man to spin wildly and then slam silently into the ground. The God Slayer bounced across the table again and grabbed two of the men trying to scatter out of the bubble, in hopes of finding some pocket to make noise. He grabbed both of their hands and slammed them together, the sickening crunch from it nowhere to be found. And then there was the last one, who had practically crawled out of the bubble. His face was nearly at the edge, his mouth opening and ready to cry out. But Mythal dove over and grabbed him, pulling him up so hard that he actually was airborne by himself for a moment. But then the God Slayer’s fist came down and into his chest, pushing him back into the floor and caving it in with his unconscious body.

He took a moment to look around and then moved out of the bubble, taking another moment to catch his balance as he did. His hearing came rushing back, like he was coming out from passing out. He took hold of one of the boxes to steady himself, shaking his head.

"Character counts most when duty calls."

The silence was settled, and Mythal wasted no time throwing himself into the fray. He moved with such swift precision that Serilda really wouldn’t get a chance to even try to help him. No matter how much the men yelled, and no matter how much was broken in the process of the fight, no sound escaped to alert any kind of reinforcements. The woman found herself a bit captivated by the attack. It was weird to see a man that opened presented himself as a drunk maneuver himself so gracefully. Truth be told, Serilda was a bit envious of his skills in hand to hand combat, skills she had never gotten a chance to learn herself.

But, she had a duty and that was more important than studying her partner’s style. She kept her feelers out around them, sensing for things she could not hear while Dead Space was activated. On the fringes of her Void Sense, she could feel the groups of women idling about in their cages. However, there was one body of space that seemed to be moving more freely than the others.

When Mythal finished and stepped back into the realm of sound, she gave him a second to reorient himself, knowing that moving in and out of such absolute silence was often dizzying at best. Then, she told him, “I’ve reached out as far as I can with my senses, and as far as I can tell there is only one other person moving freely about this ship. The other body forms I’m feeling are grouped up together and staying roughly in place.” And obviously, those would be the women. “If we can take that one down, then all we have to do is get to the rest at the factory.”

Once they secured their newest batch of slavers and made sure they wouldn’t be going anywhere after they woke, the two of them carefully made their way up toward the deck of the ship, Xiuhcoatl following behind them quietly. When they found the steps that lead to the deck, Serilda carefully poked her head out of the opening, looking in the direction where she sensed the lone figure making rounds. A single man strolled between the cages, keeping his eye on the women and making sure they were staying put and not causing any trouble. He was a stocky man that carried himself with confidence, and didn’t seem too distracted by the abundance of female flesh around him. He shushed them often if they spoke to one another too loudly, keeping them cowed and corralled within their prison cells.

If Serilda had less discipline, anger would have overridden her senses in that moment, much like it had for Mythal at their last mission. Instead, she focused on the facts she saw before her, and on keeping a cool head so she could help these women instead of putting them in further danger. “Cutlasses,” she whispered to her partner. “It’s hard to tell from here, but he also has some kind of gem hanging around his neck. A lacrima, maybe?” The man could be some kind of wizard if he had use of a lacrima, which made the most sense to her.

“I worry about confronting him so close to the cages. We need to draw him away from the women. Unless you have a better idea, maybe I can dry to draw him over here and once he’s far enough away you can sneak up on him?” Serilda was, of course, well aware of Mythal’s ability to fall into his own shadow, not to mention turn into a bird. She had no such abilities, and this guy looked like they would take the two of them to take him down. He may not be very intimidated by a lone woman, though, and all she had to do was get him away from the ladies in the cages.

Once they were agreed on a plan of action, she looked down to Xiuh. “Beskytte,” the woman whispered. The pup wuff quietly in acknowledgement, a slight growl in the tone that indicated she was ready for a fight. Serilda didn’t like putting the animal in danger, but there was no other way to test how far she’d come.

The two of them stepped out into the open, Serilda with her sword unsheathed. It was time for a little show. “So,” the woman said, her voice ringing loud and clear across the deck. Immediately, all eyes were on her. Dozens of women turned in unison, some of them gasping. They began to chatter among themselves quietly.

The man also turned to look, but not as quickly as the others. When his eyes fell on Serilda, however, a confused look crossed his face. Clearly he hadn’t been expecting a stranger. Perhaps he’d mistaken her voice for his captain’s before realizing the truth. “You enjoy preying on helpless women, do you? What about one that’s not so helpless?” She walked toward the man with slow confidence, wanting to get a little closer before pulling back so as not to tip him off that she was trying to create distance between him and the women.

He didn’t immediately take the bait. Dark eyes looked her over, as well as the hound at her heel, before glancing around at the rest of the area. He was trying to ascertain if she was alone, she figured. After he found no one else, he pulled out his own sword and confidently maneuvered himself to square off again her. “Not a smart choice, lady,” the man told her, looking between her and the dog as they circled one another. “Don’t know how you found this place, but there’s only two ways you’re leaving it: In a cage, or in a body bag.” The man brandished his sword at her and smirked. “I don’t particularly care which.”

“You have the bark, but do you have the bite, I wonder?” Serilda’s tone was as cool and collected as it ever was, her cold eyes laying on him evenly. She set her feet and lifted her scimitar into a middle guard briefly. Then, she sprang forward at him. Their weapons collided with a ring of metal, and the women locked in the cages collectively gasped again, their eyes locked on the scene.

Xiuhcoatl sprang back and forth in the fight, timing her nips in tandem with Serilda’s thrusts and parries. The hound’s superior speed allowed her to keep the man busy without getting hit herself. And truthfully the animal was a big help, for Serilda discovered in engaging the man that they were about equal in skill when it came to swordplay. She had to stay completely focused to ensure that she didn’t get struck herself.

After a minute or so of back and forth, she managed to get a solid strike on his shoulder. Growling in pain and rage, he came at her with more fervor. Serilda maintained her cool head, and subtly surrendered a bit of dominance to the man, allowing him to push her back along the deck, and away from the cages...

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

Once he was out of the realm of silence and gotten his senses back, he turned his attention back to Serilda. She explained that she had used her senses to look for others that may be on the ship. And it seemed that there was one that wasn’t tied up and left in a cage – the next goon on their list. That would clear the barge and take the women out of contention of danger. "Sounds like a plan to me,” he said with a firm nod. Once her Dead Zone had cleared, they grouped the men together and tied them up, fastening their legs and arms together and gagging them so they couldn’t call out for help. After that, Serilda led the way up towards the deck. Mythal kept an eye out as they went – she had used her senses to seek out people but there was no telling if someone had a magic that specifically disguised them. He doubted it – based on what Serilda had told him of her magic, it would have to be a fairly challenging wizard to outmaneuver her. But one could never be certain.

Serilda looked out onto the deck, surveying the area and trying to ascertain the man’s position. Once she had found him, she turned just enough to whisper him the details. Cutlasses and a necklace with a gem. Sounded like a lacrima, which meant this guy probably combined his swords with the magic in the gem. As he pondered that, Serilda formulated the next step in their plan; she would confront the man and draw him away from the cages. His being near the women was a problem – put too much pressure on him and he could turn his blade on them. Once he was far enough away, Mythal could land a stealth attack on him in hopes of taking him down in one blow.

He nodded in agreement. He couldn’t quite use his shadow warming up on the deck; the sun above them made the shadows that did exist small and hard to maneuver into. He could change into the crow again and fly up above him but suddenly coming down out of the sky and becoming a man could attract attention if anyone had a direct view of the barge. He eyed the railing to the right of him, an open area that looked out over the sea. As Serilda stepped up with Xiuhco to get the man’s attention, Mythal darted down onto the flat level and over to the railing. He leaned over it quickly, glancing upwards to see how far the jump from this level to deck. Easy enough to jump. He put his feet up on the railing and stepped up so he could scoot along the side of the ship.

He could hear the man and Serilda talking, his partner attempting to keep his attention fully on her. He stood flat against the cool metal hull and waited until he heard the sound of metal weapons clashing. That’s when he pushed himself up and grabbed ahold of the deck’s edge, his fingers grasping the floor tight. He pulled himself up enough so he could see between the metal bars, watching as both Serilda and Xiuhco battled with the intimidating man. By the looks of it, he was just as skilled with the weapon as she was and their swordplay was quite the flashy sight to see.

But he couldn’t waste time watching it. He shimmied over a bit away from where he had been, moving towards the front of the barge. Then in one quick and smooth pull, he hoisted himself up and over the railing of the top most deck, landing in a squat to cancel out any noise. He darted between two cages, a mere blur to the women inside that were watching the sword battle. As Serilda found herself near the steps she had come up, Mythal came sliding in from the side, directly behind the man. A tremendous amount of magical energy surged into his right arm, so much so that his skin had paled to a snow white with black lines running rivulets across his flesh. The sheer pressure of his magical power must have alerted the man, as he started to turn to see what it was. But it was too late; Mythal’s warped fist slammed into his back with such force that his body bent forwards at a sickening angle and a small shockwave erupted out from the impact point. The man’s voice caught in his throat, barely a squeak as he stared wide-eyed at Serilda. His weapons fell to the ground, clanging as they separated. Then he face planted, his body completely limp.

Mythal pulled his arm back, his skin already turning back to its normal color. "He’s alive but he sure ain’t walkin’ anytime soon,” he said quietly, giving his arm a shake to release the tension.

"Character counts most when duty calls."

The fight went on for some time, Serilda slowly drawing him away from the ladies. She knew that Mythal would make his move soon but kept her focus on the man, trusting her partner to make his strike when he saw his opportunity. If she kept an eye out for him, the man might realize she had backup somewhere and change tactics. So instead she just put her mind to the task at hand keeping the man busy.

He did sincerely kick things up a notch after she was able to wound up, and for a brief moment Serilda was sure she was about to receive another injury, particularly since dueling with a wounded leg wasn’t exactly the easiest thing in the world. However, Mythal joined the party just in time. The slaver didn’t even get a chance to turn in full before the Slayer practically snapped his spine in half with a single, charged punch. Their enemy crumpled to the floor with a coarse whimper.

As Mythal shook his hand out, Serilda checked the man over. “Nice shot,” she told her partner. Though the words were simple, he’d be able to hear in the tone of her voice that she was actually a bit impressed with how clean and efficient the strike had been. She kicked the man’s sword away and checked the gem around his neck. “Definitely a lacrima. Looks water based.” With a swift flick of her wrist, she snapped the cord and removed the item from the man.

Once she’d fully patted him down, Serilda stood back up. “No keys,” the woman informed the Slayer. “Must be with one of the people in the factory. I could use my magic on the cages so they could walk out, but that would take a lot of power with this many cages… I’m not sure that’s wise when we still have the bigger fight ahead.” After a moment’s thought, she moved over to the cages where all the women were corralled. They were all pressed with their faces to the bars, with a mixture of expressions ranging from shock to hope.

“My name is Serilda Sinclair, and I’m a wizard with Sabertooth,” she told the captives. “And this is my comrade Mythal, with Fairy Tail. We were sent by the Council to find all of you, but we’re not quite done yet. We still need to find this captain and the rest of her men. Do any of you know anything about them that could help us?”

The women were all too eager to pitch in. Before long, the pair of wizards would know the names of their last two targets, their general personalities and fighting styles, and what kind of weapons they wielded. They even knew a few things they really didn’t need to know, such as what a couple of the women were willing to do with Mythal if he got them out of there alive. He got a couple of compliments from a small handful of the more vocal ladies. Serilda didn’t have any reaction to the comments herself, though she resisted the urge to roll her eyes. The women certainly had a right to voice their pleasure over being saved. Plus, the thought of Mythal being made uncomfortable was amusing, so she made sure to glance over at the man to see what his reaction was.

Once they’d gotten everything they could, though, it was back to business. “Thank you for your help. We’ll return to free you once we have the keys.” Uncomfortable with the thought of leaving them defenseless, however, she took a moment to give the slaver’s sword and water lacrima to two women that claimed knowledge on how to use such items. “All I ask is that if you find a way to let yourselves out, please stay here until we’ve had a chance to come and retrieve you. We want to make sure the place is cleared out so we don’t put you in further danger.”

Satisfied that they’d at least have something, she finally turned to Mythal for them to set up what hopefully would be the final step in this mission. “Alright, so it seems the only people we have left are the captain and her second in command, whom we know are up in that factory. What are you thinking?” The two of them had a big advantage right now in knowing a bit about how their last two targets fought and operated, so they just had to figure out the best way to utilize that.

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

It was perhaps the cleanest, if not the strongest, strike Mythal had made in his time with Serilda. Rightfully it should have sent the man flying like a rock out of a catapult but he had aimed it precisely where it would nearly dismantle his spine and the impact would travel through the body rather than into and against. It was something only a person that had intensely studied martial arts could pull off without downright killing the man. Though Mythal didn’t quite have qualms about that, he preferred to make him suffer for the crimes he surely committed beyond just slavery. As Serilda commended him, he simply nodded back and rolled his wrist, glancing at his hand in front of him. It’d been awhile since he had dug that deeply into his magic; he had forgotten about the whole bleached skin thing.

The Voidwalker took the necklace from the paralyzed man, revealing that it was a lacrima after all. After she checked him for keys and found nothing, she quickly planned out their next moves. Removing all of the women from their cages would use a lot of her power and good amount of his strength; though he wasn’t sure she believed he could rip the cages open one after the other. He was surer that if they spent the time doing it, they would lose the advantage of secrecy and put them further at risk of being discovered. Serilda greeted the women, introducing herself and Mythal in brief and then explaining the situation to them. When she asked them for information, a chorus of whispered voices came rushing out from each of them.

Some of them were helpful; they explained the names of the people that had captured them, gave them small details they had noticed about the captain and her remaining man and how they interacted with one another. What wasn’t helpful were the offers and promises that some of the women threw at him, offering him rewards that would have made a priest gasp and blush. He mostly ignored the comments, meeting each woman’s gaze with a look of derision. Stuck in cages, enslaved to most likely serve as some rich noble’s concubine and they were now trying to get in his pants to reward him? Serilda seemed attentive to how he would respond to their comments and he glanced over at her, shrugging. "What? They’re the ones sayin’ it,” he said, waving at the women.

Eventually they quieted down when they realized Serilda and Mythal were leaving to retrieve the keys. Not wanting to leave them alone without some kind of protection, the Sabertooth wizard took the sword and water lacrima and gifted it to two of the women that seemed trained in such things. She left it up to them to get out, which really seemed silly to Mythal but then again, she didn’t really know the extent of his physical strength. So as she turned to face him, he was already walking by her to the cages that held the armed women. "Combination plan,” he stated simply as he reached out for two of the bars on the first cage. He set his stance and pulled backwards, bending the metal beams easily and prying them out of their placement. As he dropped them to the ground and moved to the next one, he continued. "I’ll draw their attention to the front of the building, keepin’ them further away from the girls. You find a good hidin’ spot that you can move easily out of. Once we have them both outside the door, you use your silence bubble-thing and then we can attack them from both sides.” He pulled the last two bars out and dropped them as well, giving both women plenty of space to wiggle out of.

The first one stepped out easily and thanked him but the other came through the grates swiftly and with purpose. He’d seen this kind of purpose before; that dramatic run to the hero and kiss them movement. He was all too prepared to stop her with his arms out but instead she went to Serilda, planting a deep and passionate kiss right on her lips. Mythal’s eyebrows shot up as he stared at the two women for a moment. Then the barest hint of a smirk tugged at his mouth.

The sword-wielding woman finally pulled away. “After this, we should hang out. You seem pretty talented with a sword; I wonder how talented you are in other things,” she said, the weapon in her hand apparently filling her with confidence.

Mythal cleared his throat. "If yer done kissin’ our damsel, shall we?” he asked, gesturing towards the building. Once Serilda had agreed to the plan, and probably settled herself down, he would lead her around the building and then removed himself from her so they could separate.

He glanced back at her and shot her a careful nod to let him know he was ready. When she signaled him as well, he walked right up to the door and slammed his fist against it. "Buildin’ inspector!” He called out loudly, sounding as obnoxious as possible.

He took a few steps back, planting himself with his arms on his sides and waited. It was a few beats before the sound of a lock unlatching banged through the air and the door slowly began to open. The man that had sized up Serilda before peaked his head out, looking completely confused. “Who the hell are you?”

"I told ya; buildin’ inspector. I’m here to inspect the buildin’,” Mythal insisted, gesturing to the structure. "Now lemme get in there so I can start my job.”

“I think you’re mistaken, pal,” the man retorted.

"No, I think yer mistaken, pal,” the God Slayer snapped back. "I have a civic duty to inspect these buildin’s an’ ensure they’re up to code. Ain’t no fugly toothless man gon’ stop me from doin’ my job,”

“Well then…” Another voice said from behind the door, a smooth and deep feminine voice. The door opened further and a woman stepped out from behind it, her single eye set on Mythal. She was a beauty of a woman, with ruby red hair that hung near her shoulders and deep crimson lipstick that made her lips pop. Her right eye was covered in some kind of device, the lens as red as her hair, that opened and closed just like an eye. Her wide, winged cap was filled with golden rings and golden spikes, each one protruding from the cloth. Her tight white shirt commended her figure, the shirt adorned with golden stripes and black buttons. Her right hand perched itself on her hip, golden bracelets jingling, while her left was… well, it was a mechanical hook. It spun in its slot as she walked forward and out of the building, lining herself up with the God Slayer.

“How about one not so… ‘fugly’?”

Liberation of Slaves Empty Re: Liberation of Slaves

Post by Serilda Sinclair 8th December 2018, 3:52 pm

"Character counts most when duty calls."

Well, he certainly wasn’t all that impressed with some of the lady’s suggestions. Serilda saw the look of disdain on Mythal’s face at a few of the comments and hide her smirk well, but at this point the man had been around her long enough to read some of her more subtle expressions. He caught her eye and made a point out of waving them off. “I didn’t say anything,” she replied, perhaps a little too innocently.

As she turned to work out the plan with him, after setting a couple of the more able women up with the items taken from the previous slaver, Mythal answered while taking her last action a step further. She watched as he pried metal apart like it was little more than rubber tubing. Obviously, Serilda knew he was strong -- she’d just watched him administer a spinal tap with his knuckles -- but this was taking that knowledge to a completely different level. She kept her face mostly schooled, but her eyes lingered on the bent bars a couple seconds too long, betraying her wonder over the feat.

She had every intention of recovering and ignoring the show of brazen masculinity, but someone else decided to shake things up. One of the women to whom they’d bequeathed the weapons, specifically the one with the sword, swooped right up to her and planet her lips directly on Serilda’s. As a woman, she wasn’t exactly mentally prepared for this kind of thanks-for-the-rescue greeting. Shit like that only happened in fairytales, and only to men. Right?

Wrong. Oh, so wrong. Serilda was absolutely stunned into paralysis. Crystal blue eyes were wide with shock, and her body instantly went rigid. It wasn’t that she necessarily had an issue with another woman kissing her, so much that right now her mind was running full steam on work mode, and she’d been spending the better part of the day dealing with violent surprises. So she froze, because her first instinct was to snap her sword up and run the lady through, and Serilda would never have forgiven herself for that. So she stood stalk still, her mind racing to try and process what in the actual hell was going on so she could react to it, and coming back with absolutely nothing.

It was actually Xiuhcoatl who snapped her from her reverie. The loyal hound had not been told to disengage from her last command of guarding Serilda, and the Void wizard heard her snarling, felt her moving to attack. “STOP!” Serilda cried, frantically prying herself away from the woman and scrambling in front of Xiuh. It wasn’t the proper command word, but the intelligent wolf understood the tone and the body language. Instantly, the hound was no longer hostile and sat on her rump, patiently waiting.

With one disaster avoided, her panic wore off only to start anew when she turned back to the woman and saw what had to be close to a hundred other pairs of eyes watching her as the lady came onto her quite shamelessly. The noble Lady, unused to such brazen and public shows of desire, instantly turned red. “I uh.. Umm… I…” she told the other woman eloquently. Not missed in all this was the honest to gods smirk on Mythal’s face, who was thoroughly enjoying this little turn of events.

He chose to speak up then, actually mocking her about this, and boy did that just make her angry. Thankfully for Serilda, anger was the stronger emotion over embarrassment. “We’ll be back,” she said, avoiding the woman’s suggestion entirely in lieu of focusing on what she needed to be doing.

Once the two of them were out of sight of the women, Serilda wasted no time in punching the man right on his side. It wasn’t hard enough to actually hurt him, because they still needed to finish this job, but he would definitely be feeling it going into the next battle. “Don’t even ask,” she whispered at him hotly, cutting him off before he’d get the chance to protest the action. Her face was flushed once again with rage like the last time they’d argued in Desierto. “You know exactly what that’s for..!”

Serilda stormed off, moving to go find a favorable position for her part of the plan he’d suggested. It was his turn to act as the distraction, and right now she had half a mind to let him get tossed around a little before filling her part of it. The anger and embarrassment simmered right below the surface of her mind, and it was a difficult fight to brush it off. Luckily, by the time she found an advantageous position she had cooled down. Mostly.

She watched carefully as Mythal pounded on the door, claiming to be an inspector. It took every ounce of willpower Serilda had not to slap her forehead with the palm of her hand and groan. They were not going to fall for that! “You are such an idiot,” Serilda whispered, half hoping that the God Slayer’s hearing was good enough to actually hear her from where she was.

The man she’d been approached by a few days prior stepped out, proving himself to be the second in command of this little operation -- which explained why he’d been smart enough to back off when she made it clear she wasn’t to be trifled with. Slavers don’t get high up the chain by being stupid, though Serilda couldn’t understand why he didn’t answer the door by simply beating Mythal’s face in with it.

And then the captain emerged. Even Serilda had to admit there was an almost grotesque beauty about her, but that didn’t change the fact that both of these people were ruthless killers that were not going to go down without a fight. Focusing on the area, the Voidmage dropped a second use of Dead Space and the area immediately deafened.

The two enemies swooned only for a moment in surprise, but fought off the sudden sense of vertigo in record time. The first mate, Carver, realized there was a second mage in the area and ignored Mythal, leaving the man to his boss. Serilda stepped out of cover to join the fray, but quickly learned one of the man’s skills that the women had not had a chance to observe. He was exceptionally fast. She’d barely had enough time to put her sword up in front of her to block the first couple swings of his cutlasses.

Liberation of Slaves Empty Re: Liberation of Slaves

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

There was no moment in his life that Mythal wished he had a camera more than right now. As he watched Serilda practically seize up, all he could do was smirk. Luckily for the Voidwalker, her dog was still in defensive mode and was making to attack the bold woman. And it was right then that the God Slayer remembered his iLac had a phone application on it. Just as he was whipping it out of his pocket, Serilda was screaming at the canine to stop in its tracks. With a deep sigh, he slid the phone back into pocket with a pout. Opportunity missed.

He could already see the anger boiling up inside of her, her face flaring and her eyes narrowing. All he did was smirk back at her as she used her rage to clear away her daze and excused the two of them, stating they had to get going. Mythal followed behind her, looking back at the woman and smirking again, a silent show of thanks for the content of many, many future jokes. Once they had gotten out of sight of the women, the Voidwalker slammed her fist into his side. He winced at it – it was definitely going to bruise in the morning – but rather than grunt in pain, he started to chuckle. He just waved her off as she badgered him, far too entertained at the sight and look of her. She knew, if the roles were reversed, she would find some high-class way of saying almost exactly the same thing.

She went over to get in position and he went to the door. As his fist rung the metal barrier, he could easily hear her comment on his antics. He cocked his head just enough to see her out of the corner of his eye and when the lock started to undo, he brought his hand up and tapped the side of his head, right on his temple. She’d get the meaning. Then it was all business from there on out – or well, deception. Deceiving business; that could probably be a profession, this guy had tried it on Serilda after all.

The captain set herself across from him, popping her hip as she looked across at the man. “What my compatriot was trying to say was…” But before she could finish her sentence, all the sound around her was instantly cut off. Her mouth still moved to say the words but nothing came from her throat and the surprise in her eyes was evident as she blinked and reached up to touch her throat. Mythal leaned a bit forward and put his hand to his ear, tapping it to signal that he couldn’t hear her. But her surprise quickly melted away into annoyance – all the women in his life apparently shared that trait. Totally couldn’t have been him as the common denominator.

Before Serilda could launch herself into the battle, the other man zipped out of the bubble and charged at the Voidwalker. Mythal took a step in their direction but out of the corner of his eye he saw the captain bringing up her weapons. Two guns snapped out of their holsters and blasted out two shots at him as he attempted to aid Serilda. He backpedaled but the shots hit the ground just past him and exploded, causing him to stumble even further back. Now off guard, she blasted off two more shots that smashed into Mythal’s torso, small explosions rocking him and knocking him further back. She shot twice more, the blasts crashing into his legs and knocking them out from under him.

Mythal hissed between his teeth, the burning sensation now resonating through his body. His clothes had managed to resist the attacks and not burn away but he was injured beneath them. Her shots were nothing to scoff at. She strolled out of the bubble of silence, spinning the guns on her fingers as she regained her hearing. “Awfully rude of you two to come in here and interrupt our days like that. I really wanted to avoid killing any folks today.”

Mythal let out a noise that was between a laugh and a cough. "Sorry to disappoint.”

“Oh honey… I never said killin’ was a disappointment,” Captain Scarlet said with a smirk, leveling her pistol on Mythal’s head.

"Not ‘bout that,” he responded, just as his magic surged over his right hand. He brought it up and smashed it into her extended arm, knocking it away and bruising her limb. Before she could even gasp or yelp in pain, he was spinning around and smashing his elbow into Scarlet’s forehead. She stumbled away from him but he followed after, leaping into the air and thrusting his leg out to plant his foot into her side. She nearly lost her footing from the impact, struggling to get to her feet.

Mythal rose up to square off against her, extending his right arm out towards her. Magical energy wrapped around his hand from the gauntlet and converged into his palm, his fingers crushing it down. As he did so, she threw one of her guns away from herself and brought the other one up… to her own forehead. “I’m not going back to prison, mate. I’ll blow my head off before that happens again.”

The God Slayer didn’t need any more of an invitation. "Fallen God’s Chaos Blast!” He roared as he snapped, unleashing the built up magic into the form of a magical beam. It smashed into Scarlet, consuming her entirely within its intense blaze. After it had dissipated, the slaver captain was still standing there, her entire front crispy and blackened. She was gasping slightly, her arms hanging at her sides limply. First her gun dropped to the ground and then her entire body, the woman falling completely flat onto the ground and taken out of the battle.

"Character counts most when duty calls."

This sword fight was going to go down much differently than the last one. While the previous slaver was about even with Serilda in terms of sword play, this one definitely outclassed her. His heightened speed and the fact that he wielded two cutlasses against her one scimitar put him at a position of advantage over her. It was everything she could do to keep him at bay and fend off his attacks, let alone consider landing a strike on him.

Help came in the form of Xiuhcoatl. The hound, sensing that Serilda was in true danger, tapped into the might of her breeding and operated at full speed, doing her best to be her mistress’s second blade. Carver snarled in frustration at the wolf, but the Voidwalker was sure to maintain the man’s attention. This fight wasn’t going to be able to keep up for long at this pace, however, and she knew it. “Void Step!”

It was ultimately a blessing that Carver had knocked the two of them outside the range of her silencing spell, because Serilda was going to need all the help she could get in this fight. Very few of her spells required verbal components, but the one that she was going to need for this battle did. Focusing on the void particles within her body, she made herself one with the emptiness and used it to heighten her speed. Furiously their blades met, Serilda somehow able to parry blow after blow despite having one less sword than the other man.

It wasn’t a perfect defense. The man managed to land a couple strikes on her, though Serilda managed to at least deflect the blows far enough away that they weren’t fatal. She grimaced with every hit, but bit the pain back and took the blows patiently, waiting for an opening.

When that opening came, she was ready. He had her backed into a corner, ready to deliver a fatal strike. The cutlass reached back and struck true, piercing through her body. But he was incredibly confused when he realized that there had been no resistance to the strike. It went right through her body, but did not pierce her. Greater was his shock when he realized that her scimitar was poking through his back on his side. Not through any vital organs, but enough to put him down.

Carver stumbled backward, falling off the blade and slumping onto the ground in a pained gasp. Serilda took the moment while he was distracted by his wound to kick away his weapons. Grabbing him by the scruff of his shirt, she dragged him unceremoniously over to where Mythal had knocked out the captain and dumped the man next to her. Serilda’s clothes were saturated with blood -- she’d been struck more than she’d realized. Feeling a sudden dizziness from blood loss, she sheathed her weapon carefully and looked at Mythal. “Let’s call the council and get this scum picked up so those girls can go home.”
