THE SONGBIRD AND THE SEA Empty THE SONGBIRD AND THE SEA

Post by Rin Loves Mari 1st September 2018, 2:28 pm

a long time ago hime had heard a story of a coastal city boy, whose home was razed to the ground by pirates. it had been told to her by a man who she only knew as mister. now, years later when she was more than a little girl, hime had the opportunity to meet him again. she had always been fascinated by his stories. the old man had traveled from house to house and spent a week or two at each, longer in the canning season when he could on a chair with a basket of beans on his lap and many children sitting at his feet around him. the slayer put the memories out of her head and focused on the present. a sandstorm had just started to kick up, so she had better find shelter and maybe a way to continue moving towards the ace of spades. that was the meeting spot.

    Post 1 Dice Roll

1- This leads you to a large open room with a small camp fire and weak archers who are waiting for their friends to come back.
2- Rolling a 2 brings you down a series of small halls of dirty stone that have Skeletal Soldiers wandering them to protect the area.
3- This leads you to a room with five coffins, inside are Bandit archers fighting off the Skeletal soldiers, no matter what side wins you will have to face the someone.
4- If you roll a four, roll again and add the hell hounds to your encounter. More than one 4 rolled stacks the monsters.
5- Congratulations you have found an empty camp site you can rest here and restore half your hp once per roll.
6- This is it. You have made it to Gold Rodger's tomb. Massive doors of iron bar the path nd once opened reveal his coffin and the bandit leader some forty meters away from you ready to strike.

THE SONGBIRD AND THE SEA Empty Re: THE SONGBIRD AND THE SEA

Post by Rin Loves Mari 1st September 2018, 3:58 pm

the very first room she stepped into was wide and bathed in a wash of warm light. it was also dim, which was definitely to hime's benefit because she soon realized that the space was not empty of other entities. there were two archers crouched around the fire whose flames granted the dim light inside the cave. they seemed to be tired, even as she watched one shifted from a crouch into a seated position. he crossed his legs and adjusted his hood, and try as she did she couldn't see their eyes or even much of their faces at all. the slayer saw that a few steps away from the fire pit, a bow and quiver looked to be set on top of some rocks. hime wasn't excited at the prospect of dodging arrows, so she willed flames to flicker over her body and bend the dim light to render her invisible to their eyes. once that was finished, she stepped forward lightly and trusted that their ears couldn't pick up the soft sound of leather against hard sand, her boots against the cavern floor. though the slayer was sorely tempted to eat the camp fire, she resigned herself to just slipping by and entering the next room.

THE SONGBIRD AND THE SEA Empty Re: THE SONGBIRD AND THE SEA

Post by Rin Loves Mari 1st September 2018, 4:08 pm

this time hime found herself in a similar chamber, except it was much more brightly lit. the fire in the center was happily crackling away, and the flames were so tall that they lapped at the tips of stalactites above. the mage saw two more archers around the fire, but this time both appeared to be dozing, their postures open and slack as they sat propped up against more rocks. their quivers and bows were closer though, one man's slung across his chest with the bow grasped in his left hand while the second archer had them lying on the ground not even a meter away from his right leg. hime was even more tempted by the fire in this room, and she swished the lollipop in her mouth around in an attempt to distract herself from thinking about how satisfying it would be to consume the flames. eventually, she threw complete secrecy to the wind and slunk forwards, invisible, until she was able to engulf the flames in a swoop that left the room completely void of light without the camp fire. she just kept walking, remembering that the entrance to the next chamber had been directly across from where she was standing facing the old fire.

THE SONGBIRD AND THE SEA Empty Re: THE SONGBIRD AND THE SEA

Post by Rin Loves Mari 1st September 2018, 4:30 pm

the girl was almost expecting to come to another wide room with fatigued archers, but instead she was met with pure darkness. after taking an innumerable amount of slow steps forward, always testing the ground under her next footstep in case it wasn't solid, hime began to be able to see her surroundings. she craned her neck and squinted her eyes searching for the light source, but it must have come from further above because the only next thing she saw was a trio of skeletal soldiers dressed in prickly and bumpy armor that was practically falling off of their frames. clearly magic was involved here, and the idea of necromanced or reanimated sets of bones did not sit well with the girl. she had a dislike for magic that messed with boundaries between life and death. so hime licked her lips slowly and nervously as she stared at the three rattling skeletons, who were hunched over slightly but moving enough to let her know they could attack. there wasn't enough space between them to slip by so reluctantly she stepped close enough to the one on the right to kick out at its knee and then wrench its sword out of its grip. while they looked for the invisible attacker, hime flickered a burst of fire out suddenly, trying to blind them as she quickly covered the sword in flames and bent it invisible to carry with her as she skittered down the hall, eager to get away from the skeletons.

THE SONGBIRD AND THE SEA Empty Re: THE SONGBIRD AND THE SEA

Post by Rin Loves Mari 1st September 2018, 4:40 pm

hime sucked in a breath instinctively when she saw what awaited her in the next room. there was a pair of fiery creatures whose features seemed vaguely canine. instead of eyes they only had balls of bursting yellow white flame, and their teeth were a shining pale gold. the sharp tips trailed flames, and it looked as though every time one made a sound, flames burst out of its mouth. this was the kind of pet that hime imagined her alter ego might get in a dimension where she was more of a ferocious fireball of a wild card and less of a prim candle light and flame dance kind of mage. the girl reluctantly stepped further inside the cavern. this time it was extremely well lit, but even so the hell hounds still glowed brightly. the peach haired girl could not help but notice that there was an ominous looking coffin over on one side of the room, to the right of the pair of growling reddish orange pelted beasts. for some reason, hime felt okay with not giving the two her full attention. they didn't seem to have detected her yet, or if they did they weren't reacting. either way it was good, since it meant her invisibility was working well enough.

then the slayer realized where the hell hounds' gazes were focused. another opponent was actually in the room, and judging by the size and splendor of the place this was actually some sort of final destination. a treasure room, or maybe the burial chamber of the tomb because of the coffin. either way, the hell hounds were growling towards the coffin, and hime could see a man with chain mail covering his head crouched on the side of the coffin that was facing the right wall. basically, the hell hounds couldn't see him, but she bet that they could smell him. the slayer wondered if she smelled of cinders and smoke or something like that, and it was why the creatures hadn't reacted to her stepping into the space. tentatively, hime sniffed at her blouse, concerned about smelling like the camp fire she had just eaten if she was going to step into civilized areas after this excursion here, when the sand storm died down.

hime seemed to smell fine, so she returned her gaze to the fight just in time to see one of the hell hounds scramble its claws against the stone floor and dash around the coffin towards the chain mail man as the other hound gaped open its jaws and roared a blast of fire in the same direction. as tempted as hime was to intercept it, she figured that was a bad idea since she wasn't sure of the strength of the flames and whether she would be able to consume them without doing internal damage or something. the man seemed to be broiled alive inside his armor, much to her slight internal fascination and fair external horror. in her moment of shock, the girl didn't see that she had let her invisibility drop, and the man lunged at her desperately with his pole arm, maybe thinking that the attack had come from hime? either way, he didn't make it before succumbing enough to the heat of the hell hound's flames, slowed down so that the other hound pounced on him and was able to bite viciously.

swiftly she recovered her clothing and skin and every surface area belonging to her with the flames to manipulate the light and vision of onlookers. it didn't seem to matter though, since the two hell hounds were preoccupied with systematically and really somewhat disturbingly incinerating the man with flames of an extreme temperature until all that remained was his bones. at that point, they buried his remains on the left side of the tomb, where hime realized with a start that there was already filled in holes dug in exposed hard dirt ground. not all the tomb was built on stone of a cave, it would seem. maybe it was nice that the hounds had orders from someone somewhere to bury intruders, but hime was more concerned about being buried, herself. she was about to just book it out of the place when she saw one of the hell hounds pause in the burial and stare directly at her in a suspicious manner.

THE SONGBIRD AND THE SEA Empty Re: THE SONGBIRD AND THE SEA

Post by Rin Loves Mari 1st September 2018, 5:28 pm

i don't like you either, the girl said in rhetorical reply to the dog as it leaped at her invisible form, growling. the slayer threw her arm out and forced the obstinate and fiery serpent at the core of her magic to come out. just get rid of those things, hime huffed as she held out her arm and wiggled it awkwardly in the direction of the hell hounds. the flame serpent snorted as sardonically as it could manage before it hissed and chomped down on the nearest hell hound. hime scrambled towards the coffin, determined to just grab whatever was inside and book it. she didn't need to take down these hell hounds, as much as the idea of taming one of the creatures appealed to the competitive spitfire at her core. the mage shoved her hand into the coffin's opening, the flames surrounding her skin illuminating it enough for her to grab what she could see-- a smooth stone orb and a red jacket that reminded hime of a pirate. with the old tale her friend had told her lingering in her head, the slayer let her serpent distract the hell hounds until she was as far away from the scene as possible, sprinting up towards the surface and the desert and away from the cave. once out of range for her magic to work, the snake reappeared at her side, connected to her wrist, and the peach haired mage prayed that there was no trail for those canines to follow.
