    Job info:

The cave was not a dark dank hole in the side of a mountain, but rather a well lit and, more importantly, well crafted home for the young mage. He opted to avoid having his primary base of operations aboard the Crystalli, for while it was very difficult for invaders to reach, it was equally difficult to escape. Additionally, if something should ever happen to the mechanical and magical components keeping it afloat then he would much rather his important documents be kept somewhere else. It had been about two weeks since his traversal of a rumored basin with the ex-saint and Elvira - the latter of which was now lying on his small but comfy bed in one of the smaller rooms adjacent to the main chamber. While carving an intricate stone dwelling out an unsuspecting mountain was a task even beyond his ability, it was not beyond the ability of one the Crystalli citizens, if they could be called that. Jacob was not a member of Crystal Swan, but rather a sculptor who was looking to expand his craft beyond pre-prepared marble and into something more grand, a canvas befitting the skill of the sculptor. Vincent knew Jacob through his works for the guild, but needing a home built is what pushed him to approach the craftsman for assistance. Thankfully, this was just the opportunity that the middle aged man was looking for who happily negotiated with the scholar who wanted his home to be carved into the side of a mountain adjacent to the Spooky Forest. Of course, he would provide protection for the artist. Vincent expected the job to take quite a long time - to say the least. Even with the magical tools present to sculptors in Fiore a mountain was a mountain which made it a surprise when he saw Jacob actually work. His skill with the chisel was matched only by his skill with manipulating the Earth itself. In no time at all Vincent was left with a beautifully crafted home with one large chamber and many rooms branching off of it to varying specifications based on his needs. The hole in his bank account was certainly worth it.

Vincent not only had to defer to a professional to build him a home, but also to deal with the comatose Elvira who seemed to be completely fine. Again, he was no doctor, but the ones he did visit all said the same thing: they couldn't find anything physically wrong with her. He expected as much, for this was a magically induced sleep. At least he suspected it was. Their job could wait as long as she needed to wake up, if she woke up. The thought upset him greatly. With all the books and all of the knowledge that he had accumulated over the years he had never been exposed to this particular kind of situation. It frustrated him. What was the point of all of his study if he didn't even know enough to help the one person that he most wanted to assist? He shook his head. Nothing good will come from letting my focus falter to quickly. I need to keep reading.... While he looked down at the book in his lap, his eyelids seemed to get heavier and heavier. His hunger pangs were strong and he felt like he really needed a drink, but he still pushed to ignore his bodies signals. Books, scrolls, and parchment bound in everyone other manner were strewn around him in addition to any and all ingredients he believed might be beneficial to producing some kind of concoction to counteract the effect of the Basin. All of them failed. Just as he was getting through the last page of the latest book he had started rereading, he realized that he would not be able to make it. Sleep finally grabbed hold of him tight enough so that even his desperate resolve couldn't save him. The young mage drifted off into the black void that had been clawing at him for days now.

He awoke eighteen hours later at the crack of dawn in a bit of a panic only to see that nothing had changed. Elvira still lay on his bed and he was still no closer to solving this mystery. I'm about ready to return to that Basin and ask the queen herself if she doesn't wake up soon. Feeling weak, Vincent finally decided that it was in his best interest to actually have a meal so he made his way into the main chamber which contained his kitchen and he made himself a bowl of scrambled eggs. He gorged himself on the quick meal like an animal before downing all of the water he had poured himself in a single go. His appetite was fiercer than he imagined and, while he was still hungry, he was stable enough to continue his research. The only thing that he knew about her condition was that it seemed stable and that she didn't need any intravenous addition of nutrients or fluids. Addition, the disease present within her had been kept at bay. It was undoubtedly the magic of the Basin keeping his teammate in pristine condition and caused Vincent to wonder if he had reason to worry at all or if he simply needed to wait just a bit longer.

    I'll be here...
    Elvira Arcade
Elvira felt her body floating on gentle waves, each one causing her to slowly lift and descend as warmth enveloped her body. Each time a wave crested and fell her fingers wiggled and grasped at the smooth cloth floating below her. Each time she drifted closer; each time her fingers held the blankets for longer. Blankets...that's what they were. Was she in a bed?

"Mother will be angry if I oversleep again..." She thought. This time, when she felt the sheets, she clutched at them so as not to be pulled away --her body glistened with sweat as she writhed, slowly clawing her way to the ugly reality of consciousness.

She was laying in a bed, she knew that, but anything else seemed to only come in bits and pieces. Her stomach turned and her body struggled to move, as though it hadn't done so in months. Through sheer force of will she finally managed to open her eyes and glance around to realize she was in some kind of well-crafted stone room on a cozy bed. Suddenly her body convulsed and white foam bubbled from her lips and rolled down her chin. Small objects in the room began to rock and levitate as the wizard spasmed and drifted upwards, causing the covers to slide off her.

"How long has it been? Oh god...the basin, where's Vincent, where am I? How long has it been?" Her thoughts raced as her body twisted grotesquely in the air --glowing white lines streaked up her face, giving her the appearance of a cracked porcelain doll as tears rolled down her cheeks. The air in the room shimmered and suddenly Pavo the peacock appeared, stretching its majestic plumage and, for once, looking quite somber as it reached out a wing and placed it on her forehead. The pain lessened as some of her ethernano circuits were redirected to sustain the spirit. After a moment the pink haired maiden, Virgo, appeared opposite Pavo and reached out to gently take her hand, again, the pain lessened. Soon they were joined by Nikora, Horologium, and Pictor; all the spirits she had contracts with were silently easing the burden of her bursting magical pathways as they comforted her. Then, as suddenly as they had appeared, they were gone.

Elvira was once again laying in bed, the objects around her seemed stilled. For a moment she thought it had all been a dream until she felt a warm, wet, cloth run across her forehead. She looked over to see Virgo sitting beside her on top of the covers cradling a bowl of water, which she was using to carefully clean the dried spit and blood from her body.

"H-how long?" She asked in a whisper as she reached out to rest her hand on Virgo's leg, relaxing as she felt the warmth of her friend's body on her skin.

"Two weeks Baroness." Virgo replied as she carefully uncovered the wizard and continued scrubbing.

"Did Vincent..." Elvira said, suddenly looking terrified.

"Sir Gauss is fine, he is in the other room, you are in his home." The stellar maid responded calmly as she finished Elvira’s bath and laid out a set of the Celestial Spirit clothing they all seemed to be able to produce at a moment’s notice.

Elvira flashed a frail smile and reached up, locking her fingers behind Virgo's neck as the inhumanly strong spirit easily sat up and pulled her upright. Their eyes met and Elvira leaned in to gently press their lips together for a moment. Distracted, Virgo didn't notice Elvira's slender fingers slide down her arm to her wrist. The wizard enjoyed the spirit's embrace for another moment before snapping the rubber band on the pink haired maiden's arm.

"Ah T-thank you Baroness!" She swooned, momentarily losing her stone-faced composure, as Elvira giggled and struggled to her feet, slowly dressing herself.

"Thank you Virgo, thank the others for me as well. I'll take things from here." She said while moving to look in the small mirror on the wall. She sighed and traced the still-glowing lines on her face with her finger tips.

"As you wish Baroness, call us if you need anything." The maiden replied with a nod before fading away.

Despite the thorough cleaning her friend had just given her Elvira was a mess: Her seven step skincare regimen and makeup had gone neglected for half a month and worse still; the magic of the basin seemed to have worn off all at once, and if not for the fast reaction of her spirits she likely would have died. Unfortunately, the witchfire had still started to burn, if only for a moment. One of her golden eyes was framed with crimson from a ruptured blood vessel, while her body was covered in several dark bruises. Most prominent, of course, were the remnants of the excited magical particles in her body which presented themselves as the white streaks dancing across her like spidery veins.

"Well." She sighed. "I can't imagine this is much worse than how I looked at the end of our last battle. I never wanted him to see me like this...though it can't be helped now." Elvira glanced around and located her keys and cards neatly arranged on a nearby table --it was difficult to tell if Vincent had just been very respectful of her things or if he'd studied them during her coma, she suspected the latter, though the idea was more amusing than invasive. She collected her belonginhs and stood as upright as possible, focusing on the straight, invisible, line through her body that her ballet teacher had drilled into her in childhood. She slowly made her way out of the room and down the hall to the main area, lured by the smell of freshly scrambled eggs.

Vincent sat with his back to her, but she easily recognized his beautiful silver hair, he seemed to be lost in thought before an empty plate when she quietly she slid her hand down his chest, embracing him loosely from behind. Her breasts pressed against his upper back as she lay her cheek on top of his head and stared off into space.

    "I'm hungry..." She whispered.

In his current state Vincent didn't notice the commotion that went on in the room in which he had placed Elvira. The following feeling of something soft on his back caused the wizard to jump up in his chair and instinctively teleport himself to the corner of the room so that he was facing outwards so as to maximize his field of view. Rather than a threat, though, he found that Elvira was not only awake, but walking and talking! "Elvira!" he exclaimed in surprise before letting out a long sigh. She's okay. Thank goodness. "Yes. Food. You must be starving after your extensive rest." Vincent raised his hands and made some gestures in the air which resulted in a bowl appearing at the spot across from his on the table, a chair being pulled out, and a clump of scrambled eggs being taken from a pot sitting on top of his stove and floating over to her empty bowl. "Thankfully I made quite a bit of food, so we should have enough to sate both our appetites." The mage refilled his empty bowl in a similar manner to how he filled Elvira's bowl moments earlier before returning to his place at the table. Now that the most pressing matter was addressed, he could afford to do more than barely satisfy his basic human needs. Now that he had the opportunity to get a better look at her, he noticed several concerning physical traits. He noticed some bruising on the exposed parts of her body, a red eye, and bright white streaks illuminating her skin from beneath. She had certainly seen better days.

"What happened to you Elvira? It's like you became a bomb of pure magical energy..." He trailed off while inspecting her physical appearance which reminded him of those described in his history books which blighted the Pergrande population for a relatively short time. Additionally, being afflicted with Witchfire would be consistent with her choice of magic as well as explain the overwhelming magical expulsion that he had witnessed in the basin. This possibility hadn't dawned on him until he verbally expressed what had happened two weeks earlier, but it made sense. Not only was it possible that she was sick, he now believed it was likely. Still, he wouldn't know until he asked."Was it Witchfire? Do you suffer from it?" In the case that she did suffer from such an illness, she really was a walking bomb and it was some kind of miracle that she didn't go off during these two weeks.
