    Job Form:

    Job Title:
A Story of Sun and Ice

    Rank:
    100 year

    Player Requirements:
    Leila Vergious and Sorano Granon
    17,000 words per player
    20 monster dice rolls

    Job Requirements:
Get rid of the human settlers on the planet, through any means necessary

    Job Location:
    Kosetsu

    Job Description:
An anonymous letter has been sent to Leila Vergious and Sorano Granon, begging them for help with the current situation on Kosetsu:

    "Greetings Earthlanders,
Today we contact you in a time of great peril, and you may be the only ones who can stop the destruction of our planet. I am a single mere creature upon the planet of Kosetsu, but there are so, so many more of us. And we are in danger. Your people - yes, the humans of Earthland have settled upon our planet's surface. While we are generally a peaceful planet willing to accept the presence of other organisms, these humans have not treated our planet well.

Kosetsu is known for our warm ice and snow, but the settlers have been harvesting these resources and shipping them back to Earthland, building harmful magical portals that cause terrible disturbances on our planet. Their magic and technology interferes with our atmosphere and ethernanos amount as well, causing the planet to cool rapidly. As we are accustomed to warm snow, many of our kind and other species on Kosetsu are dying off.

As I know you are powerful people with some sort of authority on Earthland, I beg of you on behalf of Kosetsu: Please get rid of this threat. We no longer care how you do it, as our lives are at stake.

    Thank you, and sincerely,
    A representative of Kosetsu"

You must go to Kosetsu, and rid the planet of these invasive settlers as fast as you can, through any means necessary.

    Enemies:
    Weak:
Scouts(x10): Scouts are swift, small mages who are equipped each with a set of poisonous darts and a limber bow and arrows. Specializing in poison magics, these mages are able to spread a poisonous infection everywhere they touch. Beware their grip, as they can deal damage extended over a period of time with their poisonous fingers. However, while they are extremely fast and deadly, these enemies are glass cannons, easier to take down once hit. They deal S-ranked damage.

If approaching diplomatically, these people are skittish and will not trust easily. Trained to always be on alert, they will take a lot of careful and honest(-sounding) talking to get through to.

    Normal:
Guards(x5): Guards are in charge of defending the settlement, and making sure no one gets into the camp or the areas where the ice is being harvested and transported. They specialize in metal and stone magics, able to form almost impenetrable armor and create monolithical stone structures in a single movement. Many of their spells are area of effect, dealing damage over a large area with their big attacks. They also each hold a large sword or gun. They deal H ranked damage.

If approaching diplomatically, these mages are stubborn and will take wheedling and possibly bribing to get past. Most do not particularly want to be here, but are loyal mercenaries that want that cash, so appeal to their greed!

    Strong:
Commanders(x3): Commanders are in charge of keeping order in this place, and most often use body-transformation or summon magic, allowing them to have a wide range of control. Each commander will have with them two clones or two summons at their command, allowing them to come at you from all sides. Wily and experienced, they will certainly be hard to beat. Each attack deals H-X ranked damage, and most carry a weapon of some sort.

If approaching diplomatically, these mages are very intellectual. Using logic and common sense is the best way to get through to them, and they will be reasonable if you are convincing enough.

    Boss:
The CEO: At the head of the whole operation is the CEO, an unnamed woman who honestly looks like your typical office worker. However, she has the entire settlement and the air within the space completely under her control, and is capable of manipulating every bit of it, explaining how she could make such powerful portals and prevent the Kosetsu residents from rebelling. She is intelligent, and has senses that can detect you anywhere on her turf. She deals X rank damage.

If approaching diplomatically, she will only back down when it is clear she has no way of winning, and is given good alternatives for her industry on Kosetsu.

    Reward:
155k, and fame and love all over Kosetsu for getting rid of the humans. A nice chunk of warm, soft, non-melting ice to take home as a souvenir as well!

Notes: Sorry this is so late. I sorta lost track of all my posts, I really need a better way of doing this haha.
For once, Sorano wasn’t in her office. Strolling down the streets of Magnolia, she scanned the storefronts for her favorite boba store. A big fan of the cool drink, it had been a long time since she’d been able to get a taste of it. Finally, her eyes lit upon the colorful storefront, displaying a boba cup filled with multicolored circles, lights flashing invitingly at her. Maybe she should get the bartenders at the guild to learn how to make boba – then she wouldn’t have to come all this way, but she supposed it was good exercise. Turning into the store, the door would open with a light twinkling. Decorations for St. Patrick’s Day were still up, green banners stretching all over the store as was expected for a Magnolian store, and the festive air was present as always.

Instantly, the cashier looked up, eyes lighting up with a spark of recognition at the sight of the unlikely guild master. “Oh, Sorano-chan!” Speaking affectionately, the Midian woman instantly began moving around the dispensers and ingredients. “Same as always?”

“Oh, yes please,” responded Sorano, nodding sincerely at the woman. Having been a staple in her life ever since moving to Magnolia, the founder of the boba store was the closest thing she had to a mother figure here. Although the two knew very little about each other, they had often conversed several times in the past when the letter mage had discovered the store. Sitting at the counter bar, Sorano watched the elderly woman work, agilely moving around the machines and scooping small spoonfuls of syrup and lychee jelly into the plastic cup. “So, how is guild master life treating you? You haven’t stopped by in almost half a year – life must be busy for you, yes? You look tired.” As always, the boba lady started off the conversation with a kind question, Sorano nodding slowly along.

“Yeah, it’s a little stressful. There’s always something else to be done, definitely a full-time job. More requests have been coming in as well, but it’s hard to keep on the good side of the Magic Council after what happened to the guild last year.” Not mentioning that the guild was performing illegal jobs as well, she explained things as simply as possible to the older woman, depositing a handful of jewels on the table after receiving the drink. “Now what about you? I’m sorry I haven’t stopped by lately, but you seem to be doing as well as always.” She plunged the straw through the plastic covering, and took a sip. The bubble to milk tea ratio was perfect as always, and the addition of the lychee jelly she so loved fit the taste as wonderfully as always. Definitely her favorite drink to have when just relaxing and enjoying things – the weather had been warming up too, and the cooler drink shops were getting business again.

“We’re doing great, thank you for asking! We’ve added many more items to our menu as well, you may want to give them a try sometime as well, yes?” The letter mage blinked, pulling the laminated sheet to her. “Oh my, you’ve added half a page. I’m impressed you could come up with that many.” While her voice was monotonous as always, it was rare for her to give out praise, no matter how polite it was. It was hard for her to see the positive points when she tended to see things from an objective point of view. As a result, the boba lady would start for a moment, face blanking out in surprise before her expression creased back out into a benevolent smile. “Thank you, Sorano-chan. It helps that one of our favorite customers is the guild master herself.” Ah… Had her reputation really spread so much? In the past, when she told someone that she was the guild master of Fairy Tail, they wouldn’t believe her. In fact, she had assumed that many still thought that Fairy Tail was led by Heero or Kanix – the fact that people were getting to know her name was surprisingly fresh information to her.

Letting out a contented sigh, the letter mage relaxed with another sip of the tea. Opening her mouth to say something else, the door would suddenly burst open, a young boy of about twelve standing in the entrance. “I-Is Sorano Granon of Fairy Tail in here? Please! There’s an urgent letter for her!” Instantly, the letter mage whirled around in her seat, boba nearly slipping from her fingers. “Ah… Yes, I am Sorano. What is it?” She could see the boy’s expression growing uncertain the minute he set eyes on her fragile frame and short height, a frown spreading across his face.

“You? Seriously?” Incredulity was obvious in his voice as the boy’s eyes widened, pointing a finger at the girl before him that was only a few years older.

“Yes, child, this girl is in fact the guild master of Fairy Tail.” The boba lady smiled at him, setting down the glass in her hand. “I’ve known her since she joined the guild, trust me on this one, yes?” Although her tone was lighthearted, there was an expression in her seemingly smiling eyes that spoke of that famed Midi passive aggressiveness. Recognizing the expression, the delivery boy gulped, and held out the letter. “Sorry, Miss Granon, here’s the letter. Sorry for the interruption.” Quickly, he left with his head down, and the letter mage would raise an eyebrow at the elderly woman.

“Oh, go on and read your little letter, will you?” Waving away Sorano’s expression, she went back to polishing the glasses. With a shake of her head, the letter mage obliged, flipping it open. It was skimmed through in only a second or so with her abilities, but surprise would fill her gaze as she read it again. Kosetsu residents asking for her help? This was rather unexpected, but seemed like something right up her alley. However, no payment was mentioned, which she frowned at. Still, if she was one of the only people called to action, perhaps there would be something for her as well.

Standing, she waved at the boba lady, taking her own cup. “See you, I’ve got a job thrown my way. Hopefully I can come back again soon.” With a cheerful farewell at her back, Sorano would move out. This time, going by herself would be sufficient. No need to get Hoshi tangled up in this mess – she was busy enough with her delivery service as it was. Seeing as the letter suggested other mages, she would wait at the Wakusei Portals for someone else to join her…

    Leila Vergious  ❃  S-rank  ❃  Silver Wolf
It has been a good while since the guild Silver Wolf was formed beneath the banner of Leila Vergious, one of the Wizard Saints. A woman who was currently in her guild hall and staring very intensely at a certain gadget, its metallic form clashing rather sharply with the adorned table of dark wood it was placed atop of. While the primary focus of her guild was certainly one of survival and providing shelter for other mages, she had taken research of magic and magic-related technology to her liking lately. And after some consulting with the rest of the guild, this was also established as one of the guild’s goals.

And as for the little device that she was trying to work on? An upgrade to a nation-wide magical scanner that resided in the guild hall. If configured well enough, then perhaps its range could be extended even beyond the border of Fiore. And yet, despite her knack for this sort of thing, the silver-haired maiden was somewhat struggling with the task at hand. So it was surely no surprise to anyone that she decided to take a bit of a break after several more failed attempts. An unsatisfied sigh would escape her as she stretched her limbs and headed to the entrance.

The snowstorm was raging there as always, the only thing protecting her guild being a powerful magical barrier that did not allow the angry element to level this building with the ground as well as making the surrounding area warm enough for anyone to forget that they were in an ice-covered location. She had taken a liking to just sitting here, staring into the storm and pondering. Was she by any chance growing old and sentimental? No, probably not. It was merely the memories of her past adventures that were creeping up her back, forcing her to delve into her own mind library and recall it all.

She managed to change so much, it was only natural that she would do a bit of self-reflection like this. It was not a bad thing by any means, as it even helped her appreciate what she had right now all the more. A smile would grow on her face as she scratched the back of her head. While all of this was rather nice, there was probably no point in waiting, as it would not help her with the task at hand. If a progress was to be made, she had to go back inside and continue working on her little gadget. However, just as she was about to turn and return inside, she saw dim lights in the distance.

As someone who created a guild in this place, Leila already knew what this meant. So she would wait here a little bit longer after all. The figures of ethereal wolves would soon become much more distinct, their bodies glowing warmly in the falling snow as the moved toward the building, another more humanoid figure following them. Those were the guardians of these mountains, spirits of wolves that would lead astray anyone with vile intentions while helping those who had a good heart and desired to reach this place unharmed. It seemed that they lead a postman at this time?

Regular members would be protected by their guild mark, but outsiders just had to rely on these wolves and their own good will if they wished to approach. Clearly, this man had absolutely no intentions of doing anything bad here, as he got through just fine. Shaking the snow off his heavy and fluffy attire once inside the barrier, he would look around and smile at the guild master who approached him. “Good day! Are you by any chance miss Vergious of Silver Wolf? I have a letter for you if you are indeed her.” So he was here for her. Perhaps the magic council was sending her on another mission?

Yes, that would be me. I apologize for having you go all the way here.” But the man would simply shake his head as he handed over the ivory-white envelope. “There is no need to apologize, miss. I’ve chosen this job precisely for this sort of thing! Always experience new things with you hermit mages. Now then, have a pleasant rest of today!” Quickly saying his goodbyes, he would turn and head back into the storm while the wolves surrounded him once more to safely lead him through.

Leila was no longer a real hermit mage, but she did not correct him either. It was actually quite interesting to see how certain people reacted to her, or what outlook on this world they had. It would actually make her chuckle as she opened the envelope that was given to her, revealing its content and realizing this was most definitely not sent by the magic council, as most letters she usually received. As she read through it carefully, a frown formed on her face. “Kosetsu, huh…” She was in that world only once in the past, and it was with her sister Noheme.

It was not exactly the most smooth of explorations, as they managed to encounter a giant humanity dragon that nearly wiped the floor with them. If she was to accept another contract in that world, she could only hope that things would go a little bit more smooth this time around. Which, of course, was something no one and nothing could promise. It also seemed that she would have to finish her little scanner upgrade some other time, for this request appeared rather urgent. Nodding to herself, the girl would hide the letter in one of the many inner pockets of her outfit and whistle.

From the building behind her ran a green-colored wolf with many pink marks on its body. This was Melon, Leila’s faithful companion. “We’re heading out, so if you would.” The lupine already knew precisely what it had to do, using its own magic to grow to a size of an average horse and forming floral wings on its back. Leila would hop onto her companion and they would both run out into the storm. At that moment, the girl’s guild mark, located on her outer left thigh, would start glowing and create a barrier around them to keep the storm at bay.

Without any difficulties, they would fly out of the harsh weather and head straight toward the Wakusei portals. It was a rather convenient method of transport, this. Not even an hour later, they have managed to arrive at their destination, the guild master hopping of mid air and landing gracefully on the ground as she put on her mask. Melon would fly around for a bit longer, but then also landed and shrunk back to her original size. Looking around, the girl was quick to notice someone else seemingly standing around. “How unusual, for someone to be here…

It had been a while since the letter mage had approached the Wakusei Portals. Not much had changed, however, from what she saw – the same unstable amounts of energy, spiraling into incredible dangerous portals that were ‘guaranteed’ to be safe, but brought a sense of caution around her nevertheless. Looking carefully into the ever-changing hues of the whirling masses, her eyes viewed the mess with a calculating gaze, watching the glimmering specks spin by. The sheer amount of energy here had always fascinated her. How was so much pure power allowed to exist in such a form? How was the very existence of the portals even possible? Perhaps they had been crafted long, long ago, by powerful mages, capable of breaking through the area between entire planets, forming a single, teetering connection that kept the way open. Or maybe the technique was simple – so deceptively simple that any mage could do it, yet no one knew how. Perhaps the Wakusei area was simply standardized by the Council, regulating an official path for entities, wielders of magic to pass through. She wouldn’t be surprised. Ever since the Navrick incident and the disaster with Lucie and the guild, she didn’t know what to think anymore. Anything went with those people sitting up in Era.

Even as she mused over her thoughts, a sudden increase in magical power rose up behind her, forcing her mind towards the foreign interruption. Who was this? The sheer amount of power that radiated form this individual’s aura surprised the mage, her eyes opening and closing briefly in the action of a blink – once, twice. S-ranked mages were not common, even in a land like Fiore.

“How unusual, for someone to be here…” The woman spoke up, glancing around the area. At her feet strode a strangely green wolf, padding calmly besides what was presumably his mistress. The mage seemed strangely familiar to Sorano, even though she couldn’t recall ever having met her before. Was she some sort of celebrity, perhaps? No – what sort of celebrity could possibly possess such great amounts of power? Observing her appearance more closely, the letter mage took in the pale hair that streamed down the woman’s shoulders, her confident stance, and clear blue eyes that calmly took in the surroundings. This was someone who certainly understood her own power, but wasn’t flaunting it, either. And once again, what was so familiar about that face? A moment’s confusion passed before Sorano’s eyes cleared. Of course. Leila Vergious, newly established guild master of Silver Wolf and Wizard Saint, right? She’d heard about the opening of the new guild, and had considered going over and establishing a friendly stance. Ironic that she would meet the guild master herself only a few days later.

“Ah, hello. May I ask if you were given this letter as well?” The letter mage extracted the paper gingerly from her satchel, flipping the text side around to display the handwritten letter. It would make sense, keeping with the pattern so far. Two fairly powerful guild masters, selected to solve a dispute on the planet of Kosetsu, hm? What could be so alarming about the situation, that two unusually powerful mages were handpicked to attend to it? “My name is Sorano Granon. If we shall be working together on this task, it would be a pleasure to meet you.” She carefully put the letter away, dipping her head respectfully at the other. It was likely that Leila knew her name as well, seeing as how she’d done her best to advertise herself as a diplomatic mage, valuing peaceful solutions. It wasn’t really how she always operated, but it did well for her image and that of her guild. Wizard Saint… It too was something she should probably consider applying for someday. Such a position would only serve to further her image in the eyes of the Council, which was the most important thing right now.

Dark eyes slipped back over to the whirling portals, watching the colors mix and intermingle in their odd, otherworldly dance. Mayhap they didn’t even come from Earthland – it would explain all the oddities the Wakusei Portals possessed. Yet this time she didn’t stop to consider the mechanics and magical formulas behind the structures, instead rotating slowly until her eyes fell upon the one labelled with the name of ‘Kosetsu’. The land of the warm ice and snow, a material that could potentially be made extremely useful for creation of items and weapons. She herself had never been there – neither had anyone else she knew. It was not a popular planet to go to, after all. There was little to see beyond the continuous plains and plateaus of the same material, over and over again. Sorano had not even known that any life existed on those barren lands until today – the very concept seemed foreign and out of place in her mind. Would this life be humanoid, even? Should she be prepared to encounter a completely alien species? At least they seemed to be able to communicate in the Fioran language. While it was easy enough for her to pick up something else, pronunciation with alien languages was a pain to adjust to – even Fey was still a struggle for her at this point, and it was an Earthland tongue.

She let herself glance over her shoulder briefly back at the mage. Even if Leila was not the one who was to accompany her to the planet of everlasting snow, enough time had passed that she would want to depart. While there was always possibility of having to spend multiple days on a job, it was not something Sorano enjoyed. Particularly on as strange and uncivilized a planet as Kosetsu, the guild master had to remember that she was still a teenaged girl. She was not physically suited for spending nights out in the wild, and magic could not always be depended on outside of Earthland’s ethernanos-rich atmosphere. She’d experienced the strange up-and-downs of different planets many times on both Nazo and Tetsukazu – while Tetsukazu was relatively similar to Earthland, the magical energy she could absorb was not quite as much nor as constant as it was in Fiore, and Nazo’s ethernanos levels were completely unpredictable. One minute she would be flooded with energy, and the other, she would have barely any to draw on.

Maybe she should have done more research on the planet.

The thought inserted itself unwelcomed into the midst of her musings, even as the girl’s foot slipped through the whirling magic. A quick wave was spared to the white-haired mage behind her, before the powerful pull of the Wakusei Portal tugged her through the dimensions, filling her senses with blurred colors and sensations before things would go dark for a moment, her mind shutting down. Going through the portals was a terrifying experience for some – exhilarating for others. The letter mage had never been too particular about how she felt about it, but she certainly did not find the prospect of blacking out midway through welcoming at all. Even as her eyes slowly opened on the warm plains of Kosetsu, she needed to take a moment to adjust to the unnatural sensation. Ears buzzing, head whirling, she finally opened her eyes again to survey the scene before her.

Kosetsu really was just as barren and void of life as she had imagined, huh.

    Leila Vergious  ❃  S-rank  ❃  Silver Wolf
The white mask made out of an unknown porcelain-like material and adorned with a black Phoenix logo was removed from the girl’s face just as soon as she had put it on. It was not exactly a piece of useful equipment, or something that would help her in any way. But the symbol on its front, a symbol of a guild that was no more - Golden Phoenix, would help her remember who she once was and the family she had. It was an item that she treasured and would always put on when on a mission, shielding one of her more weaker body parts from harm at the same time.

But it was also considered rather creepy by most, sending strange and unwelcoming gazes her way on more than just one occasion in the past. Due to that, she had also learned to remove it as soon as possible whenever she was about to come into a contact with another individual, regardless of who they were. And as her voice was very clearly heard by the smaller girl up ahead, it appeared this was precisely the time to do so once more. Honestly, she just wasn’t expecting anyone to be here already at all. But surprises like these were the more pleasant part of adventuring.

Allowing the mask to disappear behind her midnight blue garb, Leia was revealed to be a pleasantly smiling girl with a somewhat pale complexion, rosy red cheeks, and deep blue eyes. Her wolf ears would twitch like a pair of ivory white scissors as she approached the younger guild master while the tail between her legs and her clothes tried to waggle from one side to another, albeit rather restricted by the place it was tucked in. Something the girl actually did on purpose so that this more animal-like part of hers would not just go crazy whenever she felt happy or ecstatic.

And once close enough, she had actually managed to recognize the individual in front of her rather easily! Although there was action taken before she could even let out a single word. Sorano Granon would pull out a very familiar letter and ask if Leila had received it as well. Straight to the point and introduce later, huh? Well, she was not the first person with that attitude the wolf girl had met during her travels. Though she would not expect it from someone this young. But then again, the girl was a guild master much like herself, so she clearly had to be more mature than her appearance would tell you.

Good day! Yes, I have received the exact same letter and so I came…” Should she start being worried now? The last time she was part of a chain mail like that, the Regent of the Night captured a good deal of powerful mages in her own world and people have actually died. Not permanently, but it was still a rather unpleasant experience overall. Anyone gathering powerful mages in one place in general just didn’t seem like something that could ever end well as far as Leila was concerned with her view on things. But Sorano appeared rather calm about it all and finally introduced herself.

Not that it was really required, shew as quite the famous person. Fairy Tail was one of those guilds that seemed to be capable of surviving just about any catastrophe that would be headed its way, so it was no surprise that the guild’s master would be a pretty famous person. All the more for the fact that she was still a very young girl. Not many people were able to rise to power that early in their lives. It was probably correct to say that she might have been some sort of prodigy in some way. But there was not much of a point thinking about that now.

Instead, the silver-haired maiden decided to return the pleasantry by taking hold of the top hat that adorned her head and sat upon one of the aforementioned wolf ears, bringing it down to her chest level and bowing elegantly to the young princess. “It is a pleasure to meet you! My name is Leila Vergious, a wandering mage of Silver Wolf and Saint of Eden.” She usually did not introduce herself along with her title like that but figured she might have as well when she was dealing with a fellow guild master, someone how had probably pretty close ties to the Magic Council.

Melon actually nodded as well in her own feral way while the exchange happened, barking happily afterward as a greeting. But it seemed that no too many more words had to e exchanged. They both knew why they were here and they were ready to do the job someone entrusted them. And if it was some sort of trap, then surely they would be able to deal with it with ease. After all, they were both girls known for being members of the more elite mages in Fiore. Truly an honor to be standing next to someone like that. So with a smile on her face, Leila followed the girl to the portal.

Unlike Sorano, she was not entranced or surprised by it at all. A the end of the day, she was a traveler in every meaning of the word. She had seen all of this continent already, from Fiore to Akuma, and visited nearly every single one of these portals as well. She adored seeing new lands, undiscovered places that were untouched by the sometimes filthy hands of humans or other intelligent lifeforms. And she had hopped through these gates more times than she could count. In fact, her relationship with them was even more special than just using the gates to move to different worlds.

Among these active portals, there were few empty gates that lead nowhere. And one of them still had a slot at the side of the structure where a small rectangular talisman could be placed in. If done so, the gate would activate and lead to the Floating Continent, a place Leila had discovered a good while ago with her very own group of explorers. But a lot happened shortly after, resulting in the girl losing her talisman and thus being unable to access that place as of right now. She was still searching for a way to return there, but couldn’t do so right now.

So she just sighed and literally jumped into the swirling magic without a shred of hesitation, allowing the colorful lines of ethernano to consume her and warp the space itself around her physical form. Really, it was not too different from her own power to create warp gates between different places. And in no time at all, she would find herself falling out on the other side, easily landing on both her feet. Sorano stood there perfectly still, taking it all in. Seemed that she might have been here or the very first time. It made Leila chuckle slightly.

Rather than being shocked or taken aback herself, she just made few steps forward into the snow-covered land and stretched. “Aaah, this place has not changed at all. Brings back memories.” When she was here last, it was actually with Noheme, someone who was part of Fairy Tail now. The two sisters searched for forgotten ruins in this world. And once they found them, they also had a little showdown with a giant dragon of humanity. A fight she would never forget. And yet, those memories seemed kinda hazy, as if she was not supposed to recall them.

Regardless, she would turn around to face her companion for this journey, also seeing how her wolf walked through the portal behind the smaller girl. Poor Melon was a bit more hesitant to jump into the space-altering whirlpool of magic it seemed. But now they were all here and ready. “Now then… the letter didn’t exactly give us any directions, but would you maybe happen to know at least in which way we should walk? I know from experience that it’s pretty easy to get lost in this place if we’re not careful, so we should also leave behind some sort of crumb path to help us later on.

Leila Vergious was the perfect image of a Wizard Saint – rosy-cheeked and smiling, she seemed the very representation of your ideal legal mage – it was hard to believe someone like this could be the leader of an independent guild, a group who wasn’t aligned with the Magic Council. Of course, looks were always deceptive – it wouldn’t do to mindlessly assume things about a person whom you had never interacted much with. Sorano herself had never met the girl, after all – the last Guild Master Summit had occurred before Silver Wolf was created. She assumed Leila was foreign – the ears and tail revealed her animalistic qualities. Had there been an increase in immigration lately, perhaps? It seemed like there were more and more interesting mages appearing in Fiore – or perhaps she had just expanded her horizons more over these years.

From her quick observation of the woman’s aura, it seemed that the Wizard Saint had recognized her as well. Well, hopefully that would make things a bit less awkward, though socialization really was not the letter mage’s strong point. As a result, her approach to this issue was short and straight-forward, hoping to get to the job as soon as possible. The woman would reveal that she had received her own letter as well, brief worry flashing over her aura before the younger mage introduced herself. By now, Sorano had stopped concerning herself with what others thought of her. Whether they were shocked by her title, or unbelieving that a kid at age fifteen could have advanced so far in the profession, she had learned that minding their emotions didn’t do her much at all. They could think whatever they wanted, but she wasn’t going to care about it.

The lady would introduce herself in return, bringing her top hat to her chest and bowing politely. Yes – the woman was in fact Leila Vergious, guild master of Silver Wolf and the Saint of Eden. Should she have given out her own title as well? The letter mage shrugged inwardly, supposing that Leila probably knew who she was anyways. There wasn’t much need to do so. A moment later, the green wolf by her side would bark happily, and that would end the formalities. Neither party was particularly concerned in this situation – the two were strong mages with plenty of experience, and should encounter no difficulties. Moving into the portal, Sorano noted the white-haired woman moving after her before the colors took over.

While the girl had done her fair share of travel, her repertoire of places visited was nowhere as large and complete as that of Leila Vergious’. Portals were not systems of travel that she used often, and besides their movement to Tetsukazu, she had no particular connection to the place, either. Coming out to land on the other side with ankles sinking into the warm Kosetsu snow, the letter mage would hear a small chuckle behind her. Was her shock so obvious that it was deserving of amusement? Sorano turned to look blinkingly up at Leila to see the woman step forward and stretch luxuriously. With her words that followed the casual movement, the letter mage nodded to herself. So the woman had indeed been here before, which would explain her lack of surprise at the strange snow phenomenon. Leila would lapse into thought for a moment, but recovered quickly and turned to face the younger mage. Melon had just come out the portal, apparently, and padded up to his master. They were ready.

“Now then… the letter didn’t exactly give us any directions, but would you maybe happen to know at least in which way we should walk? I know from experience that it’s pretty easy to get lost in this place if we’re not careful, so we should also leave behind some sort of crumb path to help us later on.”

Sorano frowned, pulling the paper out again. It hadn’t specified where they needed to meet the client, that was true. It was just awfully vague in general, with barely any useful or specific information. A small frown on her face, the letter mage would touch the blue gem on her bracelet to the paper, her earrings flashing in response to the contact. A moment later, an artificial voice would begin reciting information from the magical speakers, detailing where the paper had been made, what it was made of, and finally…where it had been written on. Focusing in on that piece of information, the letter mage would guide the voice to direct them towards the location, slowly redirecting herself to face the right direction. “I believe I have the direction down. I’m not certain if this is where we are supposed to go, but I can bring us to where the letter was written. As for a trail…” The letter mage frowned slightly, wondering what she could do to keep track. Normally, her knives could track a person down after having tasted their blood, though she didn’t think it would work on a location. “I’m actually not sure what I could do with my magic to keep track. Perhaps we could take some of the snow from this location…my gems should be able to track down where they had originated – around here, right?” Her voice was filled with doubt, and for good reason. Materials like snow or ice would always melt easily on Earthland, and were materials that were recycled through a cycle over and over again. No doubt this had been in so many places that trying to track down one particular location it had been in would be close to impossible.

“If you have any way of keeping track, it would probably be better. This isn’t really a tool meant for tracking.” Sorano sighed, crouching down to sift her fingers through the snow. It truly felt just like the real thing – if it weren’t for the fact that the tiny crystals stayed intact, not shivering into a sheen of water over her fingers.

“From the gems’ instructions, they’re pointing the way towards that direction…” Sorano gestured over a ridge in the distance, looking just about as similar as everything around them. “Do you know, Miss Vergious, if there are any huge differences here compared to Earthland? Such as changes in ethernanos quantity, gravity, or anything of the sort? Also, do you know anything about life forms here? I must admit I am embarrassingly uninformed on the specifics of Kosetsu environment and life. I’ll have to do some in-depth research on the planet when we get back to Earthland.” Seeing as Leila had been on the planet before, it would make sense in the guild master’s mind that she would have knowledge as to some information of the place. It was a rare occasion – bookworm of Fairy Tail requesting someone else for help and information. “After that, I guess we should get going as soon as possible…the letter seemed rather urgent.”

    Leila Vergious  ❃  S-rank  ❃  Silver Wolf
Sorano appeared more emotionally deprived than most of Leila’s associates over the years. However, even then, she still had a certain air of surprise around her as they entered this white and mysterious world. And if she had never been to this magical world, then a reaction like that was perfectly normal, even if more internal in the girl’s case. Not many were fond of introvert-like behavior in this world that supported extroverts and their actions. But the Silver Wolf’s guild master was more accepting than most. She even found the young girl quite adorable in her mysterious attitude, yet experienced words.

But that was about enough of creepy staring at a young girl, they had to get a move on. And thankfully, the Fairy mage was able to get them at least a general vague direction, which was still better than what they had. And what more, she did so in a way that was most interesting to Leila. After all, Silver Wolf had a pretty strong focus on magic research, as well as its development and development of magic-powered machinery. This item that the other girl was using easily fell into that category, hence the interest. Though the maiden did not dare to be rude enough to ask what it actually was.

What mattered most was the fact that they now knew where to go. Or at least they hoped so. They had a location of where their letter originated, but that did not mean it would lead them to where they needed to be. Living creatures only rarely stayed in one place, as one would have it. Their only hope was that their location was some sort of a settlement that would stay in place more permanently. The unfortunate part was that neither of the girls really knew who lived here. Sorano even less than Leila, who was only once to this world in the past. And questions in regards to that quickly arrived.

But even before then, there was the question of keeping track of where they were. At the end of the day, this world was nothing more than a white abyss. Absolutely everything was covered in the blanket of warm snow, and this made the environment indifferent no matter where they would go. Yes, there were some mountains in the distance, but that seemed to be about it right now. No real landmark that would help them keep orientation. Thankfully, Leila did have an answer for that as well, one that lied with her magic. It’s been a while since she used it like this, actually.

Turning around, she would extend her hand toward the ground and use a tiny bit of her magical energy. The smooth snow would suddenly bulge as a little sapling forced its way through, growing rapidly and out of nowhere. This process took few seconds as the girl created a flower that was roughly half of her body in length. And in a bit, multiple beautiful blue petals would appear on it as well. In the middle of these petals sat a circular organic core that started shining brightly in a cool, blue color. Even if they were to move a fair distance away, they could still see the shine no problem.

There. If I grow one of these every now and then, then we will have a good set of beacons to guide as back. But if you want to be a bit more practical, I could always open up a warp gate anywhere to take us back. Unless you dislike going through small portals like that.” She would inform Sorano as well. As long as she had any magical energy left in her body, shew as able to return back to Earthland in pretty much an instant. She did not offer this right away because she had met people who had a strong distaste toward portals and would not use them.

But then again, they had to use one to even get here and also would have to move through it once more to get back out. So in the end, it would probably not matter a whole lot. Regardless of that, she would now also try to explain a bit about this place, though she herself was far from an expert. “I have been here only once, but I noticed no real difference aside from the permanent weather. The usual life here is pretty similar to Earthland as well, a lot of furred creatures. What I encountered here last time were pieces of humanity shaped. Black monsters lead by a dragon of destruction.

Probably not exactly something that anyone would want to hear when asking what they could expect. Thankfully, they would probably not see anything even remotely similar to that on this specific mission. “LBut as far as I discovered, those were not natives to this world. Whatever thread we are supposed to take care of here should be human or human-like, or so it seemed from the letter.” Their employers, on the other hand, were probably less human-like creatures. But they could not know for sure until they would actually see them.

However, it was indeed time to move now. Whistling, Leila would let Melon know and the young wolf would suddenly start growing in size again. She had arrived on her companion’s back and there were no issues doing it again. Soon nearly as big as a horse, the silver-haired maiden hopped onto the creature’s back and extended a hand toward Sorano. “There is enough room for two if you want. And calling me just ‘Leila’ is fine as well.” While being formal was often required, Leila honestly preferred acting friendly toward her companions much more.

Regardless of how Sorano would answer and whether she would hop onto the wolf’s back and position herself behind the other girl’s back, they would head toward the destination shown by the fairy’s device.

A slivering increase in attention from Leila would bring the younger mage’s dark eyes darting up towards the silver-haired mage for a moment, wondering at what she may be thinking, before she finished her task with the earrings and established where the location of the letter’s writing was. As had been expected, the anthropomorphic woman’s green eyes were gazing inquisitively at her. Perhaps she was wondering at her earrings, wondering like many did about her age or lack of emotion, or simply just curious? Mages tended to be naturally inquisitive and observant in the tasks that Sorano typically embarked on. The longer one had been in the magical working field, the more they knew about the importance of keeping a sharp eye out. Scanning others up and down was a perfectly practical thing to do, right?

To her ease of mind, however, Leila would quickly return her attention to the matter at hand instead of the Fairy mage, seeming to consider the gem’s results. Only a few brief moments later, the woman raised her hand toward the ground in a smooth motion, pressing her own unique magical energy into the snow and pushing outwards a small sapling, breaking the powdery surface up into light chunks of powdery bits. It was truly fascinating, watching the process as the plant burst free from its snowy enshrinement. Slowly, a bud would form along with tender green leaves, revealing a flower basking in the gray light of Kosetsu. Tall but sturdy, there was no doubt that it would hold up well enough for the mages to find their ways back. With blue cores that flowed a cool crystal blue, they would be instantly recognized from a distance as the Wizard Saint’s work.

Finishing her spell, Leila communicated her plan to the letter mage in a few simple phrases: “There. If I grow one of these every now and then, then we will have a good set of beacons to guide as back. But if you want to be a bit more practical, I could always open up a warp gate anywhere to take us back. Unless you dislike going through small portals like that.” Ah…so Leila Vergious also possessed abilities over portals? Interesting. While portals were not her favorite of transportation methods, It was also difficult for Sorano to feel any hatred towards them (cuz yanno, no emotions and all). She’d do what needed to be done, and if it was more convenient to take a direct portal, then why not? She shrugged lightly, expression monotonous and unexpressing of any discomfort at the notion. “I don’t particularly mind. Portal travel is not the most pleasurable of experiences for me, that is true, but the most efficient and effective method of travel is always the best option, I believe.”

Like Leila thought, a portal would have to be taken anyways. One method simply required a larger quantity of distance to travel, right?

“I have been here only once, but I noticed no real difference aside from the permanent weather. The usual life here is pretty similar to Earthland as well, a lot of furred creatures. What I encountered here last time were pieces of humanity shaped. Black monsters lead by a dragon of destruction.”

The explanation that the Wolf mage would then provide about Kostesu’s conditions caused a turning of the head from Sorano, carefully tucking the information away in the back of her brain. Permanent weather, furred creatures, similar life to Earthland. That all seemed fairly harmless to the letter mage – it suggested unusual qualities about the planet’s rotations and revolutions, as well as its relations with magic and the atmosphere, but as long as magic and living conditions were similar enough, it wasn’t enough to cause them any difficulties or adjustments needed to be made. However, what did catch her mind was the following words uttered by Leila. Pieces of humanity and black monsters led by a dragon of destruction? That neither sounded harmless nor undisrupting of their mission – if such dangers did exist, perhaps that was part of the problem they’d been sent to solve? At the very least, it may interfere with their work.

Peering back at Leila’s aura though, Sorano considered how calm and nonchalant the silver-haired mage seemed to remain. If they were such a danger, she didn’t understand how a normal emotional being could remain so unaffected. Perhaps she was so powerful that these things worried her not? Luckily, the younger mage’s worries would quickly be put to rest with Leila’s follow-up statement. Not natives to the world, right? That could certainly imply humans, who would easily be considered foreigners to this empty globe. From her tone and description, however, that didn’t seem to be the case. Black monsters and dragons of destruction weren’t very humanoid, after all. Still, it would be best to keep an eye out. Anything dangerous was something that needed tabs kept on it.

With the briefing and exchange of information over and done with, Leila would communicate something to the green canine, causing the creature to expand in size until large enough for her to settle easily upon their back. In a kind move that saved Sorano from having to work out her own methods of transportation, she extended an elegant hand to the letter mage. “There is enough room for two if you want. And calling me just ‘Leila’ is fine as well.”

In an awkward sort of tugging and jumping maneuver, the letter mage would eventually settle upon Melon’s back with a murmured apology at the clumsy movement, and responded to her partner in that same aloof tone. “Ah, alright, I will keep that in mind, Mi—I mean, Leila.”

Due to her personality, or rather lack of one, Sorano had quickly discovered that speaking colloquially only caused her to sound odd and forced in the ears of people she interacted with. Speaking with more formality made sense with her position as a letters and word-related wizard, and game a slightly more natural edge to her emotionless tone. Still, if the Wizard Saint preferred it, speaking with less formality would work well enough, she supposed.

They would begin moving in the direction that Sorano pointed out according to the gems’ instructions, her finger gently sliding up the volume to be audible over the soft thumping sounds of the wolf’s paws in the soft surface of the planet. “We’re going to have to angle just a bit more to the east. The directions are correcting themselves a bit now that we’re slowly getting closer.” The scenery showed little change as they moved by, but eventually the faint speckles of something new would appear in the far distance. A village? Settlement of sorts? Perhaps a caravan?

Unable to see any more clearly, the letter mage called over to Leila. “Excuse me, ah, Leila, do you see those shapes in the distance? Unfortunately, my abilities do not allow much clarification or magnification, so I cannot tell what is there at this distance.”
