Things That Go Bump (Private, Mura/Taehyung)

Post by Dmitry on 26th January 2018, 3:12 am

    Job Description:
    Job: Nightmare Incarnate: The Beginning
    Rank: C-Rank
Player Requirements: Maximum number of players is ten and the minimum is 2 D ranks. 10 posts per player minimum unless soloing(due to being higher than D rank) then 20 posts. 150 words per post.
Job Requirements: At least 2 D rank mages or the equivalent of. Find out what happened to the rune knights and escape while you are still sane.
    Job Location: Spooky Forest

Job Description: One day you receive a large box from the mailman. After inspecting it, you see that it doesn't say anywhere what's inside or why it's been sent to you. All that is written on the box is your name as the recipient and the initials "SM".
Upon opening the box you discover that it's contents are a hardcover book, which upon closer inspection proves to be a person called Samuel Martin's personal diary, and a voice recorder lacrima, both covered in blood stains. Did that man send you this package? Despite the bad feeling you have, you open the book and skim through the entries.

    INFORMATION:
    "12 February, Day 647.
Today was a fun day. Me and Mary went on a picnic near the forest and spent the whole day talking about meaningless things. It really was a blissful experience and since she didn't have any problems today we were able to forget about reality, even if for just a day."

    "19 February, Day 654.
It happened again. Mary collapsed again today and started mumbling about magical gates and how everything is going to be a nightmare. This is happening more and more often and I am getting really concerned now. No doctor knows what's wrong with her..."

    "25 February, Day 660.
This is really getting out-of-hand! With each passing day Mary becomes more and more delirious. I don't know what to do any more. I've contacted every doctor and every mage I could find, but no one knows what's wrong with her. There has to be someone that can help..."

    "1 March, Day 664.
This is my last hope. I contacted an exorcist who is said to be able to cure cases like Mary's. He's going to come tomorrow night. Maybe the end of this nightmare would finally come."

    "2 March, Day 665.
It's a little before midnight now. The priest is going to come any minute and put Mary's troubled mind to peace once again."

    "3 March, Day 666.
I... don't believe it. I remember last night... the purification ceremony... then something happened and I was sent flying, and Mary ran away towards the Spooky Forest. When I came to, the priest was lying on the ground with his heart gourged out. What on Earth happened last night? There's no time to waste, I know she's somewhere in the forest so I have to find her. I'll contact a couple friends from the Rune Knights and we'll set off to search for her. Please be okay, my love..."

From that point onward all pages are ripped from the book. After putting the diary down, you activate the recorder lacrima.

"Date- 4 March. Time- 1:43 PM.
This is Lieutenant Jacob Lars, recording an audio log to document the investigation and search. I am assigned due to my expertise in the field of demonology. It seems that a woman has been possessed by an unknown type of entity, presumably a type of demon, and has escaped in the Spooky Forest. We are currently within the said forest ourselves, having a local guide us through. For some reason when we entered it a thick, almost unnatural, fog descended upon us but we were capable of navigating through the dense vegetation regardless. Currently we are standing in a forest clearing about 2 klicks north of the entrance. So far there's no sight of of neither hostiles nor the woman. It's unnaturally quiet. A bad omen."

"Date- 4 March. Time- 2:30 PM.
This is Lieutenant Jacob Lars documenting the investigation and search for the possessed woman in the Spooky Forest. This is log number two. It's been nearly an hour since the previous log and we've spent the time delving further north into the forest. It's crazy here. Everywhere you look there are huge trees and if you look up there is nothing but branches and leaves. The vegetation on the higher levels of the forest is incredibly dense, so there barely is any light down on ground level. It almost feels like we're alone in another world with no way out, and that damn fog isn't helping either. All this is taking it's toll on the minds of the others.
We're nearing another clearing. I guess we'll rest there for a while."

"Date- 4 March. Time- 2:45 PM.
This is Lieutenant Jacob Lars documenting the investigation. This is audiolog number three. Things are not looking good. The others are getting seriously paranoid and I can't really blame them. This place plays with your mind in a very freaky way. A few minutes ago we continued moving deeper into the forest, following our course north. The guys are really getting worried now. They say that every now and then they see someone's silhouette in the distance, just beyond the fog, watching them. Observing their every move. I have yet to confirm the existence of this shadow, but if it is there then it might be the woman we were sent to find. Next time the silhouette makes an appearance we'll go after it."

"Date- 4 March. Time- 666:666 PM.
*The sound of someone's ragged breath mixed with their crazed running could be heard for several minutes. After that the barely audible thud, as if someone being hit against a tree, interrupts the running*
This is Leu*static*nt Jacob *pant* Lars. We *static*eed help! We...we got sep*static*ed and the *static* took us out *pant* one by one. It's b*static*n watching us all along! Tor*static*ring us while studying it's *pant* prey. It's close, *static* the only one left *static* coming f*static* me. *static* *static* *static* the time *static* thre *static* ourty-five. (after that point the static becomes too great and you can't understand anything)

Having listened to the lacrima, it's as if more questions have emerged than been answered. Who sent you these items? How do they know your name? What happened to the Rune Knights? What did they find in that forest?
It seems that you have no choice but to go there and find out yourself.

    Enemies:
Weak: Disturbing sounds- Are those footsteps? A demented laughter somewhere in the distance? A person's dying screams? Is that a whisper you can hear, carried in the wind? This place is really freaky...
(Causes paranoia or similar effects, depending on your character. Strong-willed characters or people with a great ability to maintain their calmness can resist this to a great extent, though not completely. Having multiple weak enemy dices means that these sounds "stack", and so their effect becomes greater and perhaps even capable of breaking even the toughest of people. Duration is 3 posts.)

Normal: Poltergeists- Trees falling down, rocks suddenly shooting towards you, having your body strongly pushed away without any explanation. These anomalies can deal some serious damage or scare the living daylights out of you. They might even separate you from your allies. Be on guard. (Single poltergeist per normal monster encounter.)

Strong: The unknown figure- You can feel it, can't you? Just beyond the mist, it's hollow eyes staring right into your soul, sending ice-cold chills down your spine. No matter where you look it's there. Always watching, always moving. And no matter what you do, it's always just beyond the mist.
(Greatly frightens you, triggering your fight or flight mechanism. Whether you choose to attack or run away and hide depends on your character's personality. If this occurs in the early stages of the mission, before you've encountered the other anomalies much it will not have that great an effect. Encountering this in the later stages, however, will trigger your fight or flight mechanism, guaranteed.
Duration is 4 posts, extended depending on number of strong monster encounter dices rolled.)

Boss: Fear impersonated- Your time is up. The chase is over and now you must die. And it is coming to do just that. The unknown figure that had been stalking you until then finally appears before you, for better or worse. It's a humanoid about 2,5 metres tall, clad in black, but that's all you can make out of the figure.
It's attacks are unnaturally fast, it's reach long and it seems that it can attack you with it's tentacles, cutting you with them and letting you bleed. (This is a B-rank monster. Also please note that defeating it means that it does not die. Instead it escapes back into the mist, which gets raised soon after, and leaves behind several torn pages).

Reward: 1,000 jewels. If the boss has appeared and was defeated, the extra reward is part of the ripped pages from the diary received in the beginning of the mission. Those pages grant access to the next Nightmare Incarnate mission.

Within the Kingdom of Fiore, there is an ominous stretch of wilderness that many avoid, commonly referred to as The Spooky Forest. Though the name is rather silly, most humans are wise to steer clear, as it could be quite dangerous to those with little experience in the wild. However, even the threat of predators and exposure paled in comparison to force that now lurked within the forest, casting an unnatural fog over the land. Any animals that hadn't left the woods long ago were hiding in burrows, trees, and any other places they could use to escape sight. Of course, not all living things avoided this place, even in its current state. Among others, a certain grey haired wizard was making his way to the forest's edge, intent on finding the source of this madness.

"We're here." Said Dmitry Kazakov, as he and his companion arrived. He had embarked on this journey as a result of sensing something looming in the distance, a spiritual disturbance beyond anything he had encountered outside the cursed lands. As a medium, it was impossible for him to ignore something this out of place, regardless of his own moral standpoint.

"Hang on..." He added, his eyes narrowing. "There's something else in there, something we didn't notice." Apparently the other wizard with him was also aware of what had happened to the forest, but it was unlikely he had known about this newer development ahead of time. The presence was less prominent, most likely do to the interference of the greater threat in this place, but it was distinct enough to identify.

    "Feels like a demon."

Ah, on the roads of mission awaited literally anything that the young shaman couldn’t just make up within his mind. From pirates to aliens to whatever this was. However, times were different now that a companion was by his side, a fellow Fairy Tail wizard who had joined their guild and their new icon. Dmitry Kazakov was his name, and Mura was well-aware of his similarity to the samurai’s magic. That was one of the reasons that he decided to accompany his new brother on this journey to the Spooky Forest, making it the shaman’s second visit to these accursed lands… last time had him drugged and all, remember?

There had been strange reports coming from a strange box that the mailman had sent to them. The lacrima within it had, practically, given them the information and, on top of that, the curiosity to visit this place. Apparently, much spookier things were going about… so why not find out exactly what? If they were to deal with ghosts, then Mura was a favored force to reckon with. If demons, then he assumed Dmitry’s superiority in terms of experience… just a hunch.

Turning his face to both sides in order to track the forest’s width, he replied: “Hmh… are you-“ He was about to ask in case, but a sudden, almost classy horror scream caught his ears from inside the forest, presumably in the middle, “… okay… we may be dealing with unholy stuff.” That was when a bluish spirit ball emerged, revealing to be the signature spirit of Mura’s known as a legend from Midi and a master samurai, Kyuken. “The more demons, the more victories!” he exclaimed proudly.

Taehyung was rather excited when he first received the package as it was the first time something had ever been sent to him now that he was a member of the Sabertooth guild. Unfortunately, that excitement was soon turned to sheer fear when he saw the items within the box that were covered in blood. As if on instinct, the boy dropped the box and let out a terrified squeal that kind of resembled a young girl, darting across the room to the far end of the wall as if to avoid the package all together. It was the demon inside him that managed to convince him in walking back over to the box and when he did so, he read and listened to the contents. This is what caused Taehyung to be in the position he was in now.

Taehyung was now standing in a clearing of a dense forest, a thick fog flooded around his feet and there was barely any light for the boy to see further in the distance. "I-I don't like this." Taehyung stated softly, his voice shaking with fear as he stood there trembling. Oh grow up! Stop being so scared and keep moving or I will take over! Taehyung didn't mind the sound of that. He never liked it when Adramelech took over his body but Taehyung was so scared that he was willing to consider the demon taking over. "C-can you b-blame me. I'mm scared." Although the demon was inside Taehyung's body, it was evident to the boy that the demon was just shaking his head and rolling his eyes, clearly disgusted with him which wasn't exactly different from any other day. "W-Why did you insist on doing this?" The boy asked, flinching when he thought he had seen something at the corner of his eye. It sounds like a demon possession and just in case you didn't notice in the last eighteen years, I am a demon. The boy frowned, unsatisfied with the demon's response to which Adramelech sighed. There are a thousand different ways to possess someone. Although my possession was half a failure, the ritual your parents performed was that for a higher-demon. Myself. From what I have managed to understand from the contents of that box is that this was a lesser-demon, run of the mill and personally, I don't like them. Taehyung arched an eyebrow at the last a part, not fully understanding the demon's point. What I am saying is, I don't want any demons in the world that I will soon have control over. Taehyung just shook his head and took another few steps forward, only to let out one of those "classy horror screams" when something like a stick snapped behind him. He didn't move, he froze completely still, eyes closed and unable to face whatever was behind him.

(OOC: Splitting the boss into four strongs.))

An exasperated sigh escaped Dmitry's lips as he he resolved himself to step into the forest, knowing full well that the experience would extremely unpleasant for him. Not that anyone else would likely enjoy this place, but his ability to sense spiritual activity made it particularly harrowing for him.

"Alright, shorty." He said to his partner with blunt insensitivity. "Let's get this over with..." As he stepped into the forest, the presence of whatever was causing the disturbance here flooded over the medium, confirming a suspicion of his. "You felt it too, right spirit?" He said, referring to the being that followed Mura. "Whatever this is, it picked up as soon as we stepped through, and it fades just beyond the forest's edge." He turned to the samurai and his spirit. "It's building a territory. Consuming this place. And if you don't want this to turn into another cursed land, then we need to get a move on." Turning back to the way he had been facing, Dmitry continued on his way. As for the demon, its presence was faint against the being in control of this place, meaning it was likely on the other side of it. Even if it was closer than he suspected, it was likely being drawn in by the entity, something that could play to his favor.

As he was in the middle of thinking over the situation, he heard the sound of roots and twigs snapping, causing him to look to his right. As he did so, he managed to catch sight of a massive tree falling in his direction, just in time to leap out of the way before it hit the ground. As the earth beneath him shook slightly, Dmitry landed and rolled, quickly coming to his feet. However, before he could say anything on the subject, a branch that was already close to falling before being flung off by the falling tree spun through the air and collided with the young man's forehead, forcing him off balance and onto the ground.

"Could've done without that..." He groaned in pain and irritation.

Dmitry had proceeded to continue their search for the one who had sent this, and given by the atmosphere, Mura would much rather get this done as soon as possible. This place, this darn forest, emitted everything that screamed ghost which, ultimately, had the shaman on a bind. And it was only getting more and more dusk as Dmitry explained himself; the more that this ‘being’ hung around, the more it turned this forest into a cursed place that nobody would be able to enter. It was already this bad… he could tell that by the next thing that happened.

A tree slung down on Dmitry in the middle of nowhere, and by that point, no figure had revealed itself to have caused the sudden event. He extended a hand to help with the falling tree, given that it could be controlled by his magic, but as he saw Dmitry dodge the point of impact himself, a branch randomly cracked off the log and swung right at the grey-haired wizard’s head. Sprinting over to his position, Mura had a pearl of sweat trickling down his face. “H-Hey… maybe it’s on our tails…”

That was when a figure actually revealed itself. From the corner of his eyes, the shaman spotted a rather sleek figure, almost human, but enough to load the next action of his. It felt rushing that they were going to fight now, but nonetheless did Mura clap both hands together, causing roots to get a hold of the feet of what he thought was an enemy… when, in fact, it would be but another striving wizard…

There's nothing there... Adramelech stated with an irritated tone in his voice as a clear indication that he was not impressed with Taehyung's previous screaming performance. The young boy was still frozen in place, clutching himself in fear. "I hate this place. Let's go back to the guild hall." He said with a unstable voice that was a clear indication that he was scared, just in case his little scream wasn't a clear indication. He slowly began to open his eyes and looked over his shoulder to see if there was nothing there like the demon had stated and it turned out to be the truth, there was nothing there. However, there were strange noises in the distance, not too far from where he was and although it did kind of sound scary, it sounded more like there was a commotion.

Taehyung looked over to the direction of where the sound was coming from but due to the dense fog that surrounded the area, he couldn't see anything. He took one step forward to attempt a better view when all of a sudden the demon inside him shouted. Get out of the way! Unfortunately it was already too late. By the time Taehyung had the chance to look at what Lech was talking about, roots were extending themselves out of the ground and at the young boy. Wrapping around his legs. Taehyung let out another "woman's horror scream" before being cut off by the sudden yank from the roots, stringing him up into the air upside down, dangling. "I-I can't see! I CAN'T SEE!!!" The boy shouted fearing for his life. It's your shirt you idiot. Would you stop being a little bitch and man up! Adramelech was both disgusted and embarrassed by the young boy's display. Taehyung's shirt had fallen down over his face when he was strung up into the air and with much embarrassment, Taehyung lifted the shirt up? / pulled it down? So that it was no longer over his face. You can get yourself out of this one. There is no way I am going to take over just because your hanging upside down. Although Taehyung hadn't said anything, Adramalech knew that the boy was going to ask the demon to get him out which meant he would take over, but the demon didn't want to show himself until they found the target. "H-help!?" Taehyung called, it wasn't overly loud but it was more of a question, assuming that no one else was actually in the forest. If it was phsyically possible, Adramelech would be smacking his face against something solid right now, simply because of the frustrating young male.

Dmitry rubbed his forehead a few times, still sore from the tree-born projectile, before pushing himself off the ground around the same time that Mura sprinted over. Upon noticing the now captive figure the spirit wizard had mentioned, he let out a sigh and walked over to it, squatting down to look the poor boy in the eyes. "Relax, short-stack." He said with a bored voice. "Chill up my spine tells me he's possessed, but he ain't our mark." After that, the survivalist stood up and walked onward into the forest, leaving the demonic vessel to whatever fate Mura had in mind for him.

"Damn ghosts..." Dmitry muttered to himself, certain that the earlier peril and subsequent misfortune was caused by a variety of spirit. He had run into several such beings in his life time, which was why he was able to sense such unnatural things so easily, if only those that present danger. "Alright short-stack," he addressed his partner. "What do you make of this thing, the one controlling the place. I don't make it for a demon, but..." He stopped and looked around the forest, as if he knew he was being watched. "Whatever it is doesn't feel like anything I've ever come across. My experience, that's a bad thing." He then looked back to the boy. "What about you, demon boy?" He asked, impertinence as clear as day. "What's your read on this asshole?"
