Life itself has become somewhat of a challenge for Leila these days. It was never easy living in this world when you were like her, but the fact that she now had a chunk of memory missing only made the matters worse. And while the amnesia problem wasn’t so bad that it would prevent the girl to carry out her day to day life, it was still rather frustrating. Apparently, a good portion of adventures she went on was just gone from her mind and she did not like that one bit. Not to mention that this problem came along with another one, a powerful ancient seal that was placed on the girl’s body. Under normal circumstances, it was not even visible. But if she were to try and case any of her more advanced spells, the white markings on her entire pale body would show and start causing pain while blocking the magic completely. In other words, Leila was currently pretty much completely reliant on her equipment and a couple of spells when it came to combat. At the very least, her basic ability to manipulator nature around her remained. Which she was very grateful for, as that power was something she relied on heavily in her regular life. Bearing all these facts in mind, it was perhaps of no surprise that the female decided that she should hang low for the time being and only accept contracts of a lower rank. With the lack of firepower she used to have, she’d rather avoid anything too difficult.

That said, it would appear that she had absolutely nothing to do this fine day. It was already noon, but she barely even got out of bed. Once again having rented a room in a hotel, Leila now sat atop the fluffy blanket of the bed as she stared at the window across the room. Warm sunlight was gently seeping through it, and thanks to the slowly moving transparent curtains, shadows of funny shapes would dance in unison on the floor as they weaved their own little story. Amused by something so simple and regular, the Caretaker would smile as her blue orbs looked to the side. Next to her bed was sleeping a female wolf named Melon. A name that was given to the creature because of its unusual fur color, which was light green along with several red marks, just like a melon and its delicious insides. This wolf has become one of Leila’s best companions fairly recently despite the portion of her memory where she actually met this beast missing. It was a much-needed company, now more than ever, as the girl’s secondary summoning magic was inactive as well. And she truly missed her celestial spirits and their lively company. All the more reason to get rid of the seal as soon as possible, although that was no simple task in itself. For now, a barely audible sigh would escape in-between the female’s glossy lips as she hopped from the bed’s surface and onto her own two legs.

With a proper stretch, she would nonchalantly make her way to the door and notice a small letter had someone probably slid beneath the wooden frame. She had even noticed, not to mention that she did not expect any actual mail in this place. She only had the room for few days before she would move on to another city where she would start solving another batch of problems. The envelope did not reveal anything either. No return address or any information like that, just a blank space of the paper-like material. With a shrug meant for no one but herself, the girl opened the envelope and revealed its contents. A pure white paper that read as such: “Hey there, Rookie. I see you have done some jobs that make you seem like you’re an awesome mage. Well, you’re nothing compared to me! If you want to prove just how great you are then I dare you to take out this monster. Bring a friend if you’re too scared!” Rookie? Well, that was an interesting start to this whole thing. Leila was an A-ranked mage, an Ace of the Golden Phoenix Guild and even one of the Wizard Saints, also known as 10 most powerful mages of this continent. Being called rookie by a random letter seemed like either a joke or a mistake. In any case, she would smirk at the message and toss it to a table next to her.

Others in her position would probably just disregard something like this. But Leila was eager to accept this challenge, even if there was a chance that it wasn’t directed at her. After all, she had absolutely nothing to do right now anyway. Snapping her fingers, Melon would jump out and quickly bolt to her owner’s legs too. Rewarded with rubs on the head and behind her ears, the due would quickly head out of the hotel with minimal preparations and headed toward the Serene Cliff. A journey that did not take all too long, a couple of hours perhaps. Once there, the girl would once more be surrounded by the beauty of serenity from all sides, tall grass that was reaching almost all the way to her knees in certain areas and a breath-taking view of one was to actually approach the cliffside. Without any real sense of danger or even urgency, the due would just walk around while Leila hummed to herself a lullaby tune, wondering when this monster she was supposed to challenge shows up. If it will at all. There was still a possibility that this was still nothing more than a practical joke and she was just waiting for nothing. Not that she would really mind if that was the case either, as she meant to go out for a walk anyway. That was how she discovered the letter in the first place, as she headed for the doors just to go outside and stretch for a little bit instead of staying inside for who knows how long.

Post by Yona on Mon 18 Dec - 2:42

Yona Hisamori had no idea where the letter had come from. She had fallen asleep in the tall grass, hoping it would hide her from plain sight as night passed its way through. When she awoke at dawn, the young green haired woman stretched. It was a warm morning, bright, lacking in clouds. She saw nothing out of the ordinary, no foot prints or broken blades of grass. She bent her arms, her legs, her back, stretching out every muscle and getting ready for the day. As the light breezes flickered by, she heard the shiftings in the grass all around her. "Time for breakfast," She said to herself.

Yona had a small amount of food left over in her bag and when she went searching for it, opening the drawstrings top, the small parchment was lying right on the top, tucked in plain view. This made Yona tense up, grasping the paper and turning her head around. She listened and looked and still saw nothing. How it ended up on her person, she could not fathom. The grass flickered back and forth in the breeze, but there were no other indications of another person anywhere nearby.

The willow haired woman unrolled the piece of paper, noting the glossy black ink formed hastily written words. She frowned as she read on, peering through the smudges along the side of the paper:

    “Hey there, Rookie,
I see you have done some jobs that make you seem like you’re an awesome mage. Well you’re nothing compared to me! If you want to prove just how great you are then I dare you to take out this monster. Bring a friend if you’re too scared!”

Yona made a face and flipped the paper over, and where it had been blank before she saw a picture of an enormous spider. It was certainly an unusual arthropod, and its anterior end seemed to be a simple open maw filled with large teeth. The drawing of the spider was almost child like, but she couldn't deny the challenge which was set. It did her no harm to destroy another monster and she was also sure she was capable of doing so on her own. Whoever she had caught the notice of, let them be impressed with her unending abilities. "Scared, me? What is this nonsense, a rookie?" She shook her head and tossed it to the ground. The insulting persuasive nature of the parchment sank its teeth in her though, and even as Yona reached into her bag to grab out a day-old baked roll, her other hand reached to pick the parchment back up.

"Fine. I'll kill the damn spider. It's not too far away, I imagine." Yona spoke to herself softly, examining the picture. The spider seemed to appear on a large cliff and she nodded to herself. She knew where that cliff was. As she finished off her bread, Yona folded the letter and placed it in her pocket. She wore all white, trying to get in the habit of it. A large white coat, a tight white low v neck shirt, and a pleated white skirt: her usual go-to uniform until she had the money for more. She had fitted white boots with the WFTC embossed on the sides, barely able to be seen for the white embossment didn't stick out on white boots. Her leggings were a pale blue, something to help reflect the green haired woman's desire for color. The woman snatched a pear out of her bag, cinched it back up and placed it on her back.

Then she began making her way to the nearby cliff, finding it easy with her innate sense of direction. She made it there in less than an hour and saw instead, another woman standing there. "You've got to be kidding me? There is no way you took on the beast by yourself and won. What are you doing here, its too dangerous for a woman like you!" She declared. Yona wanted to take the beast on her own, killing it and proving herself to her guild. She was strong and capable, even when alone. She was still working on the etiquette part. Yona cleared her throat, and added, trying to sound open and courteous despite her annoyance. "I got a letter and I responded to it, the situation here is quite under control."

Well, here she was. The Serene Cliff was just as serene as always, a place she has been to several times in the past and had quite the ties to. But this atmosphere was broken rather easily and far too quickly by a voice that allowed the wind to carry it far and wide. As such, the girl’s solemn and self-absorbed gaze at the beautiful scenery beyond the cliff was rather swiftly broken. With few blinks and an expression that could be described only as comical, she would turn toward the source of this sudden commotion to spy a green-haired female dressed in white. Her visage almost radiating due to the bright color scheme, Leila grew rather surprised that she managed to miss someone like that approaching. Perhaps she should really start working on this problem of spacing out when in pretty places. Now, the question was - who was this and what was she doing here? Naturally, everyone had the same right of coming to this place and doing whatever it was they wanted to do. But this young female shouted out something. Trying to repeat it in her own head, the Eden’s Caretaker required a moment to properly grasp the meaning of the words thrown at her, mostly because she wasn’t quite paying attention when they were said. Though it hardly explained anything at all. In fact, it might have just made things much more confusing that they were up until this point. Especially if by the ‘beast’ she referred to the giant spider.

The other somewhat confusing thing was that this unknown female had said that this place was far too dangerous for Leila. Yes, this was perhaps most perplexing of all. She had a green-furred wolf by her side and her attire consisted of something that a ninja would usually wear. How exactly could she appear as a weak individual to someone? Well, there was no point in thinking about it too much. Her next words confirmed everything, as she disclosed the fact that she received a letter as well. To that, Leila would shake her head and finally try to wear an expression that was a little bit more fitting of this situation, one a bit more serious. “A letter, much like myself. But didn’t you just arrive? If I was an actual civilian, saying that the situation is under control without actually doing anything could lead to someone getting hurt…” Scratching one of her cheeks with her index finger, she tried to say it as normally as she could. Since she wished to speak her mind but didn’t want to sound like she was attempting to scold this other female. In the meantime, Melon would actually start growling and looked toward the cliff’s edge that was rather close. At the same time, Leila’s animal ears would twitch as she heard it. An erratic set of sounds, as if multiple pickaxes were being used to beat on the wall of the cliff itself.

It was pretty clear what this meant. “Well… you got this under control, right?” Smiling brightly, Leila would show thumbs up to Yona as the spider suddenly emerged, bringing it’s huge body over the edge and moving on the ground as its tall legs started covering a rather large amount of ground. By the looks of it all, this was not really a high-ranked monster of any kind. Just an over-sized spider that was perhaps affected by a curse of some kind. Which meant that Leila could beat it literally in an instant. But since this lass appeared and stated that she had it all under control, the silver-haired maiden was interested in seeing how she would handle such opponent. Though, of course, she would jump in and save her if she started losing at any point. With a simple gesture of her hand, she would also let her loyal wolf know that it should not just run at the spider and bite into it. The small beast was more than eager to take on the giant horror, but it would also respect any and all orders from its master. With a light sigh and a relaxed smile, Leila crossed her arms over her chest and watched. Though her pose appeared rather relaxed and not exactly ready for combat, she was actually prepared to bolt into any direction in a fraction of a moment, if necessary. Though she actually highly doubted that any real amount of effort would have to show today.

Post by Yona on Sun 14 Jan - 1:01

Yona had given the silver haired woman a chance to run away, back off, or a chance to explain herself. Sure, her clothing was unusual but Yona had seen her fair share of uncommon traits and uncommon people in this world of magic. The willow-haired woman listened carefully as the other explained that she had also received a letter. Yona slouched her shoulders a bit, realizing the letter must have been sent out in mass as a real joke. A way for some poor commoner types to get the mages in the area to fight a beast for them at reduced cost. It made sense, and it was kind of clever. Yona thought of what she might say in rebuttal, glancing at the green furred wolf with surprise. She had not even seen the creature before.

And then the ground shook, the rock making crunching and quaking sounds as something climbed from the cliffside and up and over into view. A massive black spider with dense hairs upon its legs and an amalgamation of teeth frothing about the monster's amorphous head. Yona swallowed hard and took a step back, assessing the creature and noting the other woman giving her a thumbs up. It was a bit complicated for Yona, not sure if she was glad that the woman was letting her deal with it or if she was offended at the idea now of handling the whole problem on her own. The spider put on a burst of speed and headed for Yona, eight feet tall and standing just a foot shy of double Yona's own height.

Yona bent over and stroked her hand over the ground, pulling up a long green scimitar formed from the ground. She held it with a careful grip as the spider began to charge her. Yona lifted her free hand and slapped the air with the back of her fingers, the sharp angle of her wrist denoting the angle of her aggressive spell. Three sharp shoots of bamboo sprang from the ground and slid through three different legs of the approaching spider. Two on the beast's left, and one on the beast's right. They dealt damage, blood oozing from the legs as the spider screeched an inhuman sort of cry, but mostly they were used to stop the creature from moving. The spider was forced to momentarily stop its motion. Yona gave a mock of a thumbs up with one hand at the silver haired woman, "Its a bloody free for all lady. If you're not all pretty face, go ahead and take a hit or two."

Then Yona dashed forwards and hacked off one of the restrained legs on the spider's left side, letting the leg topple over and ooze blood upon the fresh green grass on the cliffside. The spider had been churning and fighting to break the bamboo apart, turning its open maw to spray a net of web towards where Yona had stood. It was lucky she had moved to attack or she might have been covered in silken threads.

Leila stood perfectly still and observed Yona’s fighting style against the giant spider. And from that observation alone, she was quite easily able to deduce what type of magic this other girl was using. “A similar type, huh?” Leila was an expert of sorts on nature magic, though most of her powers were currently sealed away. But it’s been a while since she had met another nature-themed mage. The last one being Zoey, if she remembered correctly. And it’s been forever and a half since the last time she had met that cursed child, bless her kind heart.

But right now was no time to be getting all nostalgic about acquaintances from the past. She had to watch the fight carefully so that she could enter and save Yona from possible injury if need be. Though at the end, no such thing was actually necessary. The other nature-themed female had a fighting style similar to many, by which Leila meant that it was a fight to the death. There was a single trait that separated the silver-haired maiden from the rest of the magic world, and that was the determination to never kill a sentient being if possible.

Of course, a spider like this wouldn’t quite fall into that category. But it was still a bit painful to watch it suffer like that. With a sigh, she would listen to the words said by Yona and start walking toward the giant creature calmly. It clearly noticed her and once in range, one of its unrestrained legs would quickly shoot toward her with a very clear intent of impaling her. But in a single moment, one of Leila’s hands change slightly. Her pale skin turning shades of gray and almost black, its texture similar to the bark of tree rather than the soft skin of a human.

And with that hand, she caught the spider leg as if it had no strength behind it at all. With a calm and neutral expression, she would pull and force the entire spider off the ground, breaking apart the bamboo that held it a prisoner. One swift motion was all it took for the girl with unnatural strength in her body to swing the beast over her head and make its back crash into the ground, creating a small crater beneath it. With few last twitches, the eight-legged creature stopped moving altogether after that impact.

It’s still alive, but knocked out cold. If you wish to finish it, now's your best chance.” Her voice was clearly aimed at Yona, but it also carried a strange tone of sadness with it, one barely audible. It was almost strange. Normally, Leila would not worry herself too much with a death of creature like this. But today, she felt extra pacifistic. She did not want to kill it. And she did not really want to see it die either, for some reason. But she would not stop the other girl from her actions, of course. That was her solemn vow.

Yona Hisamori was somewhat disappointed that the woman had stepped in and had ended the battle so easily. That being said, she had taunted the other woman to try to get her to fight with her. Yona supposed she had asked for it. With the fun part being over, Yona strode up to the upturned spider's form and wrinkled her nose. The spider smelled, its dark fur mottled with blood from previous scuffles.

She heard the reluctant tone in the silver haired woman's voice but shrugged. "All right, I will. Can't let this thing roam around killing people in such a pretty place." Yona saw the monster for what it was- a monster. It was no special thing and she actually kind of enjoyed killing. It was an odd therapeutic way of ridding herself of the guilt and anger that plagued her since the childhood fire which killed her family. Yona tossed her green hair and then struck the beast all the way through with a two-handed thrust of her Blade of Thorns into its stomach. She stepped back leaving her blade there, because she could always magic herself a new one, and avoided the squirt of monster blood. "Now it's dead and my work is done. Thanks for the hand, lady." She gave the woman a wink and started to walk back the way she had come.

She wondered if there was going to be a treasure or if this really was some dumb ruse that she had played into. Either way, the day wasn't a complete waste. Yona paused and looked back at the woman and her four legged companion. "I work in the West Fiore Trading Company. You ever need help killing something, my name is Yona Hisamori. I generally don't freelance, but that letter grabbed my attention. Maybe you'll need me sometime." Yona said. As long as the silver haired stranger didn't seem interested in further conversation, Yona would give another nod and head back home.
