    Job Info:

Motor City, the town filled a variety of tinkerers and mechanics. It was also the city where a certain Re-quip mage was hanging out. She had made some acquaintances not that long ago that had set up their lab and shop in such a place, and naturally had come to pay them a visit to check on their status. No, not the status of their well being, but of their status in making her some cool new gadgets and toys. They owed her a few favors and really they needed her as a guinea pig to test out how their stuff worked with re-quip users and magic in general. "Hey! Anyone home?!" Aliarey shouted after knocking on the edge of the open garage doorway. No answer came, much to the blonde's annoyance. Her blue eyes narrowed and she stomped her way further inside towards the back of the garage where a door stood. Upon opening it and stepping through the doorway, she had entered into a larger space that was set up like some laboratory that worked with high tech weapons, armor, and gadgets. Magic holograms were also set up, displaying what the final products would look like. Aliarey made her way down the ramp and then the staircase that led to the center of the room. "Heeelllooo?! Leave me alone here too long and I'll start testing stuff!" The sound of a small explosion then went off in another smaller room off to the side. It had been closed, but after the explosion a small elderly man slid the door open, coughing and wheezing. He had wildly styled hair that fit the cliche of a mad scientist, donned a labcoat that was likely white before the explosion, and in front of his eyes he wore a pair of goggles that were now coated black. "That could have gone better," he muttered as he took the goggles off with his gloved hands and began to wipe them with a cloth from his coat pocket. "Now who the blazes is interrupting my work?!"

"It's Aliarey," a younger man said as he too stepped from the room. He rolled his eyes as he took off the goggles he wore and made his way over to a computer terminal to input some data and likely some fixes to the current project. "Don't 'it's Aliarey' me," the woman said, her voice going in a deep pitch during the quote to do a mock impersonation. "You guys said you'd have my stuff ready this week. Well, it's this week!"

"You didn't get the iLac message?" The younger man asked, not taking his eyes off the screen whatsoever even though he could feel the icy glare being sent at him. That would be a no. He must have forgot to send it. Oh well. "That was delayed by another week. We've been having issues with mixing the new tech with Fiore magic. It can be slightly complicated. And before you ask how can making things capable of going 'boom' can be complicated, it's more of a matter of making sure it doesn't go 'boom' on the actual user. Unless you prefer to use that method of execution for yourself I guess." The old man's laughing could be heard in the background as he ran off to a different area of the lab and grabbed what looked to be a set of dual pistols, white in color. "I did finish one thing!"

"Oh, what is it?!" Aliarey asked with an excited grin, hoping that she could be the first one to use it. The younger man's eyes widened slightly, now looking away from the screen and seeing the old man hand the gunner mage the pair of weapons. "Oh, you can't be serious?! She's going to-" It was too late. Before he could finish the sentence Aliarey had already shot at a far away table. The poor piece of furniture had been hit by a light blue beam that disintegrated it into small particles. "Oooo, now that is cool!" With a devilish look on her face, she aimed for more lesser objects of the lab and began shooting, disintegrating them all. The old man laughed while the younger watched in horror before facepalming. Then, as luck would have it, the next beam hit a a reflective surface and bounced in a different direction...right towards the computer terminal the younger man had been using. "NOOOO!" Poof. Computer and data gone.

"Oops," Aliarey said with a tilt of her head and innocent smile. "My bad. You can just get a new one, right? Heh heh..." It was then the iLac that was in her jacket pocket began to beep, indicating she had received a message. What luck! "Oh...I...um...I really should get this. It might be super important. Saving the world kind of important. You know?" She started to back away slowly, feeling the wrath radiating from the one that had owned the computer and lost all of that data. Turning, she began to leave the lab. "Yeah, I can probably expect my other new stuff to come never," she muttered to herself with a sigh and drooped head once she made it out of the garage and was standing outside. Right, she should probably see what that message was really about. Her gloved hand went into her jacket pocket and pulled out that small lacrima gadget that was widely popular and useful. Once it was in its active state and she brought up the message apps, she noticed it was from Grema. "Huh, haven't heard from her in a while." True, it had been a while since the two had made contact. The last time they had gotten together was when they were taking out monsters at the call of the Magic Council. That event had led to some less than happy memories when some psycho woman and her pet showed up without an invitation. One could say it was Aliarey's fault for that, but if one asked the mage herself the story would have been told quite differently. At the end of it all, both of her teammates were less than happy with her. Not that she really cared though. They would have gotten over it eventually, and the message at that moment proved it. The incoming message was then opened and she began to read.

“Hey, uh, it’s Grema. Listen, I need some help. I’m locked out of my house. Now before you start yelling at me, just know that my house isn’t some usual cozy little cottage. It’s the home of a scientist and I might have gone a tad overboard with the security features. And my new pet, Game Changer (you haven’t met him yet and you will wish you didn’t) kind of set one of my prototype AI’s on the system. So now the stupid mutt is stuck in my room at the bottom of the place and we need to get there before he dies and to unlock to security features.

    Hurry up.

    Grema”

At first Aliarey almost deleted the message, assuming the part about being locked out of her house was either some sort of prank or the magitech mage had lost her mind in thinking she'd travel to Rose Garden to bust the door down for her. As she continued reading, she nodded, agreeing and understanding that, with Grema, the house was likely a little more than...unique. She remembered the repair job she had done to that rented vehicle and how it came off looking like some sort of dog mobile. "Hmmm," Aliarey contemplated whether she should go or not. Was her house security really that bad? What the hell did she do to that place that she couldn't handle on her own? Lets not forget the shock that Grema actually found a pet that could withstand her grumpy attitude 24/7. More importantly than any of those at that current moment; how would she get there? Aliarey turned her head to look back at the garage and thought about asking for a vehicle loan. "All of that data!!! GONE!" The yell could be heard clearly through the walls. "Yeah, nevermind. Train it is!"

Sometime after taking the train, Aliarey had made a return to Rose Garden. Last time she was in that city she had teamed up with some looney death mage that creeped her out big time. Luckily, it didn't appear she would run into her again during her current visit. She stepped off the train and brought her iLac back up to view the message again. "Man, she could have at least put an address on here. Am I really supposed to go to her guild to ask for her house's location? What a pain!" A message was then typed up and sent to Grema.

"Hey, Machinehead, are there arrows pointing to your house or am I supposed to use telepathic awareness to find it?   Next time send address. Come pick me up at station. Thanks!  :D  "

Grema was in so much trouble. The day started out just fine. She was in the middle of a large magitech project that she hoped could aid her in combat, but not for quite a while, if ever. But it was a fun project none the less. The hard part was getting the materials for something so big. She had only recently got all of the items and scraps needed to completely finish her house, then finished building it. It was one hell of a project in itself, but it was done. Her new toy was nowhere near that phase and only had an exoskeleton at the moment. Impressive looking, but not yet even useful.

Anyways her lack of material was the reason she left her house in the first place. No, that wasn’t true she just made it seem like that to keep her tough appearance. The real reason was that her pet Game Changer woke her out of building mode with a sniffle and a sneeze. That’s right, the Mire Wolf had a cold. The being that lived in a snowy wasteland most of his life had a cold. But Grema took care of him, making sure to lap on as much tsundere as possible while covering him in a blanket. Then she realized with panic that she’s never had a cold before, thus actually had no idea how to treat one, let alone a wolf with a cold. So she raced out of the house and into the town of Rose Garden, thinking up her excuse on the way. The cyborg headed to her guilds base of operation seeking some advice since many of her guildmates had animalistic features, thus may have the answers she wanted. Unfortunately, in her speed she forgot one fact about the Silver Moon Inn; Haley the barmaid might be doing her job. Thus Grema would be absolutely distracted from literally anything else.

She spent a good hour stal-…observing Haley from around a corner, drool dripping from her mouth, until one of her guildmates took pity on the scientist and asked what she came here for. Because other than for Haley observations and official orders Grema didn’t show her face there willingly, thus when she did show up someone asked why. Also, they got tired of feeling death glares after asking the barmaid for a drink after a while and passive-aggressively shooed Grema out. This time it was good for the hunchback since she got the information she wanted, after guilty remembering she had a pet to worry over. She even got information for her pride cover story, a good place to get cheap magitech material in bulk. Which she would do later. First things first are to make sure her dog wolf thing didn’t die. So she headed to the nearby vet and bought some medicine, though it was tough to convince the man that she really did own a magical wolf, not just a large dog. After showing her guild mark he easily believed her (because owning a mire wolf was supposedly not uncommon in Black Rose) and gave over cold medication along with advice on how to handle a sick pet. Grema appreciated it, even if he and his assistant stared too hard at her. But at least she got her stuff.

The way back was uneventful, but as soon as she laid eyes on the house itself she knew something was wrong. Grema’s house actually could be considered a large one-room cottage from the outside with a large ugly metal dome that had two windows that looked like eyes or cannons, and a thick steel bottom that made it look like a jaw. It also had several chimneys of different sizes, materials and builds sticking out behind it like the needles of a porcupine.
    House:

Overall it looked a bit like an animal, but not any kind of recognizable one. It had the same rough thrown together, almost metal patchwork quilt kind of look to it like all of Grema’s work of magitech, though the house itself was more steampunk than magic. It didn’t look like it could hold more than one bedroom. Though most people didn’t know it did not have any bedrooms at all, rather the room once you entered it looked completely empty, just the interior of a poorly lit metal dome.

Grema knew something was off right away. The chimneys were letting out a conspicuous amount black smoke and Grema was certain she didn’t turn on any of her furnaces or smelters before leaving since she was too paranoid of leaving them unattended and starting a fire even as smart as her robots were. She was pretty damn sure Game Changer didn’t do it, lacking the brains, manual dexterity and willpower to do so while he was sick all in one. The main explanation was that someone had broken into her house and the security bots had turned on the smelter for some reason. The poor fool didn’t know what he was in for, mad scientists like Grema were paranoid to a fault and their home security was top class. No mere thief would get far in her house.

    Elevator:
Filled out determined anger Grema stomped into her gloomy and empty ‘house’ slammed her foot down in a specific area and watched as a lever appeared. She yanked it and most of the floor below her seemed to start sinking revealing a rather large elevator encompassing almost all of the floor space. She needed it to be large and strong considering the size of objects she sometimes pulled in or out of the place. The roof even retracted if necessary. Grema tapped her foot impatiently as the elevator went down, soon encompassing her in darkness as the floor above her closed. There would be a flash of green every second between panels as the engineer moved down and a groan of steel and a stop-motion informed her that she had arrived.

It didn’t go as planned and about ten minutes later Grema collapsed in front of her house, panting and looking a bit worse for wear. Things were a tad out of her control, but it was too early to ask for help. Three hours later and much effort, Grema was just about ready to give up. Not on her house and Game Changer, no, but on doing this alone. She needed help and was honestly low-key panicking that her pup was dead. So she did what she swore she would never do. She called for help. Not from her guildmates, hell no, but from her common job mate. Aliarey Casady, the blonde bimbo, the chick, and holder magic gunner. The message was written out quickly and immediately sent before she could think about it and take it back.

Then Grema had about 4 more goes, sometimes in between thinking that the gunner either ignored her message or didn’t see it before her iLac gave a beep. She yanked her arm up and MAI helpfully showed the message. Uh, wow, not only did she actually come, but blondie had already arrived in town. The cyborg actually felt pretty touched. Then she wiped any trace of the feeling off of her face and went to pick up her teammate.

She arrived at the train station soon after she received the message since it was on the same side of town as her house was. Grema probably looked worse for wear, but she gave a wave to her helper anyways. “Yo, chick, good of you to come. I guess.” Grema grunted, trying to not show how grateful and exhausted she was. “Right. My house. It’s a bit out of town but near here.” The mechanic gestured with her hand to follow, the other still clutching the medicine even after going into the house several times. While walking Grema talked. “My place has tons of security features and would be more than hard to get into without me there. Thankfully I am here. There are three levels to it, not including the entrance. The first one has all of my workshops in it and is built like a maze to deter thieves. Be careful about touching some of the stuff in there, I don’t only study magitech.” She also studies pure magic, biology, biotech, pure engineering, a bit of ancient magic for the guild, and other things. Most of which are not safe to touch. “The second floor is also a workshop, but just for magitech, and where I keep my bigger things and may tool of trade such as literal tools, smelters, furnaces, and where I store my material. The final floor is our target, where my living quarters are, my more precious materials, and the security vault. Game Changer, the pet I mentioned, should be there. Unfortunately I do not have a shortcut to the place for security reasons.” With those words, Grema’s hand around the bag of medicine clenches and her shoulders stiffen around her hunch. “The main problem is there as well. The prototype security AI that I was developing somehow got loose into my security system and has the place on lock-down. Vectron, as he’s calling himself, has taken control of the security of my entire house including my various bots. I blame the mutt by the way. Anyways our main objective is to get to the security vault near my bedroom, defeat Vectron, and destroy him. The bots are weal to electrical and fire attacks, but strong against earth-slash-steel and ice attacks” Grema finished just as they got out of town and into the field she technically owned. They just had to go over one more hill and they would be there.

Operation: House Troubles (Grema, Private) Empty Re: Operation: House Troubles (Grema, Private)

Post by Aliarey Casady 31st October 2017, 9:05 am

It hadn't taken too long for the hunchback to make it to the train station, much to the surprise of a certain rather impatient re-quip mage. Still, even one minute was far too long and surely should have warranted a complaint. Upon Grema's arrival at the station, Aliarey was leaning against a lacrima lamp post with her arms crossed under her chest, tapping her right foot impatiently. While she was waiting she had been going through her mind and trying to find an answer as to why she even bothered to show up to the puppy rescue request. It wasn't as if she was really getting anything out of it by helping out. She normally hated doing favors. Maybe she just wanted to see what sort of monstrosity Grema called a house. No doubt some unique modifications were made to it that made it look like it fell out of a massive pile of junk and metal. She snickered as she pictured it in her mind. Then she frowned at the other possibility. 'Good god, I better not be starting to consider her as a friend,' Aliarey thought as she clenched her teeth and cringed. "Uggghhh." Her blue eyes rolled and with a bit of mental bleach she forcefully made herself forget that though. That was one reason why she hated standing around; there was too much time to think! She could have taken a nap instead, but for once she didn't feel like taking one. It wasn't a really good day to feel lazy. "Dammit, now I can't even enjoy my nap hobby!" Her thoughts came out of her mouth as a frustrated whine as her arms fell down to her sides and hands formed into fists.

"Huh?" Her focus returned to reality when hearing the familiar voice of the other holder mage. A blonde colored brow arched quizzically for a moment before her eyes closed and reopened in narrowed form. "You guess, huh?" Aliarey asked as she placed her arms on her hips and leaned over slightly. "I can just go somewhere else and leave you to handle this on your own, you know. It's not like you're paying me." Her eyes blinked and softened for a moment when she actually took notice of her teammate's appearance. The blue orbs softened slightly as she stood up fully and sighed. 'Gee, she looks awful. She must really be having a hard time fixing the problem herself.' The softie within her activated. It helped that there was also a poor pet stuck in what was probably a hell house. If she turned away and left the guilt trip would have been massive...for a few hours. A soft sigh escaped her. "All right, I'm here anyway so might as well drop the greed. Where's your house?"

Aliarey walked alongside Grema as she led the way to the destination. She had noticed the bag the hunchback held but said nothing about it. Instead she listened silently to the explanation that was given to her concerning the structure. There was disappointment with the warning about touching stuff, and no doubt it would disappear in no time as she would do what she was just advised not to. It was like putting a sign over a big red button that said "do not press." The temptation to do the opposite would be great. There also seemed to be only three levels to the house, not including the entrance. Pretty big place, but then again scientists did enjoy that sort of room. As for the hostile enemies within, it was luck that Aliarey happened to have many fire and electrical spells. It was going to be a fun day. Her ice would be useless, as would some of her metal ones, but she could make due. Naturally the thought of blowing the entire thing up crossed her mind, but that would have been quite counter productive to saving the pet. No doubt Grema probably still wanted an actual house to call home after the cleanup as well. "This is why scientists need a control system. You people create WAY too many problems," she said, slightly amused by the whole situation. It would be a story to tell repeatedly with the sole purpose of mocking and making fun. For now though, they needed to survive and do a bit of house maintenance.

The two walked over one final hill and once the blonde had seen the "house" before her, she stopped in her tracks and her jaw dropped as she stared in absolute bewilderment. What the hell was that thing?! Was that really Grema's house?! Her blue eyes widened as she stared silently. Then she began to do something that she had usually made sure she never did in front of others. She laughed. Hard. It was such a large burst of laughter that Aliarey was hugging her sides as she leaned over, barely being able to stay on her feet. During the stream of laughter, loud snorts interrupted it, it being the main reason she made sure to never laugh. It was embarrassing. "That...is...your house?!" Deep breaths and laughter made her question come out in pieces. "Oh my...god. You can't...be serious!" That metal monster called a house was just atrocious. Grema really needed to get some decorating advice.
