Oras had not too long ago helped a man who was a sea captain, yet due to the fact that a few years ago he was framed for smuggling and nobody trusted him since. Oras took a job from him and helped load and unload the man's supplies onto and from his ship as they traveled from Hargeon town to River Village. Not only that but due to his poor reputation, the man wasn't able to get many jobs, and thus lost the funds to own a large ship and crew. Of course Oras managed to help him, not only by completing the task, but by discovering that the two men besides the sailor were thieves, and showing this to the officer and citizens of the river village. With that event and with the crowd seeing the entire affair, the man's reputation was revived to it's former self. He wanted to pay Oras more than the original assignment, but he refused it and went along his way. He traveled with the guards back to Hargeon to make sure the message was delivered and moved over to the inn in order to rent a room for the night.

The entire event had taken the entire day and it was nightfall by now. As he moved for the stairs he heard someone mention something about a murder, investigation and reward. Hearing this he paused his movement, but before he became suspicious, continued moving, sitting down at a table nearby them, his back to them as well. He would eavesdrop on them in order to hear more information before doing anything. If there was a murder with a reward, depending on how good this man was, he'd be able to get quite a bit of jewel from this. And let's face it, he needed it.

The men talking behind him were typical men who probably came back from work.  One looked like a construction worker, who had very much likely just finished, or recently finished his shift and wished to take a load off, a mug of beer in his hands.  The second one Oras decided to make an educated, and rather accurate guess was a fisherman.  At the time of day this was, he had probably been here a little while already after selling his catch.  Both men seemed to know each other and the more Oras listened in he could tell it wasn't from outside experiences though they probably did run into each other once or twice.  It was because they always drank at this time and thus became drinking buddies, sharing stories, issues, rumors and the latest gossip.

The first voice came from the fisherman, who had deep gruff voice.
"I'm telling ya it's got to be some assassin or somethin'.  Three people already dead, all of em high class men!"  The builder shook his head and held a finger up, then spoke in a more civilized voice, though a little off from the beer he'd been drinking. "Four, people.  One of them wasn't a high class man.  In fact he was a nobody.  I heard he was just some beggar who wouldn't leave people alone for nothing."  The fisherman nodded in response.  "Aye, that's true.  So anyone's at risk I suppose.  Nobody should be walkin' the town at night anymore."  "Walking around at night?"  The construction worker responded.  "My friend, didn't you hear that the man broke into one of those high class men's houses?  Broke the door down with his fist some say.  Some are beginning to call him the butcher."

"That's not his name," said another voice.  Oras didn't turn around but listened as the heavy boot steps told Oras that the man was strong and most likely tired from manual labor.  He heard the chair being pulled back as he joined the two men.  "Ho there Harold.  What do you mean by that then?  Ya know what the police are callin' him?"  "It's not the police," the newcomer said, seeming to be both frightened yet sorrowful at the same time.  "It's a fellow worker of mine."  The other two nearly gasped.  "You don't mean to say that he worked the mines like you do?!"  Said the construction worker.  "Yes.  We called him Jacob Goodnight because he'd drowse off in the middle of the shifts.  Good for nothing lazy slacker.  We think he hit a vein of some gas or something and went nuts, slashing people down.  You think those four men were the only ones?  He killed three miners before we all escaped in time."

Oras moved silently out of the seat and towards the exit, ignoring the pause in conversation and the stares he received from the two men. He didn't care what they thought about him. Whether or not they believed he was Jacob Goodnight wasn't important either. If they sent the guards on him they wouldn't find nor hear him until he had the man in custody. This man was killing people and thus he'd bring him down. Normally he'd let the guards do their jobs, but when they were facing someone too clever for even them? That was where things became too dangerous for even them to handle. Oras was a wizard, and a very cunning one at that. His magic gave him a unique advantage that most others never had. Most people believed illusions to be pathetic, something you don't waste your time with. He felt differently, and others would too when their world suddenly warped and broke, shattering into a million pieces, and then some, reforming and reshaping every nanosecond until they cannot discern between reality and facade.

Because at that point there will be no reality.

However, Oras needed to master his magic in order to get to said point. It wasn't something he could reach point blank. He needed to study. To practice. To test. He had so very long to go before his magic could ever be fully completed. The best way to go about this was to research first. Research the world and what individuals rely on the most, and what they see as fixed. Plan out his spells in order to find the best combinations, potency and timing he could. And finally practice with these newfound spells so that he could find it's flaws and make improvements. The best way to test out spells was to take on job requests.

Oras walked out of the Tavern as he thought about where to start. The main questions were listed in his mind as he walked down the streets of Hargeon town. Why did Jacob suddenly kill people? Where would Jacob stay in hiding? Were his targets random or specific? As far as the first question it could be any number of reasons. Perhaps it was due to the way his life was going and where it was heading. Perhaps it was a tragedy that occurred at some point. Perhaps he was a natural serial killer, as they did exist. The next question, where would he hide. Would depend on his history, and whether or not he was staying anywhere at all. He could be moving from one place to another to keep from being caught. If he does stay somewhere, it could be somewhere random he had picked. He could have stayed at a place of sentiment to him, or other places perhaps. Then there was also the question of whether or not his targets were specific or random. He would start by going to the barracks. The guards would be investigating this matter so he could gather intel from them to begin.

Oras was making his way over to the police station when he noticed something move in the shadows. Oras turned his gaze but missed whatever had moved. His magic had been warming up for a bit now so as long as he was within thirty meters of the target, he should be able to effect them. He dashed down the alleyway, following whoever had moved. It was definitely a humanoid and not some cat, of that he was certain. In addition, they were skilled at moving through the rubble that littered the alleyway. Because of this he was very certain that even if it wasn't Jacob Goodnight, it was certainly someone used to moving in unstable and rough terrain. One such place that could describe such terrain, would be a mineshaft. Not only this but the individual was mostly successful in keeping out of his eyesight, which meant that they were rather good at sneaking. He was rather interested in whether this was Jacob Goodnight or a regular thief. He would soon find out however.

The individual in question turned a corner where Oras knew there was a rather large fence blocking the way. Somehow this didn't seem right. Either this individual was more stupid than he had assumed, or- He turned the corner and caught the man descending onto the other side of the fence. So he was athletic to some degree. Oras ran up the left wall and used his arm to pull himself up the rest of the distance, flipping over the fence and landing on the ground below, pushing after the man once again. He would be closing the distance on this man soon enough. While this individual wasn't using magic, he was certainly skilled, and very evasive indeed. Oras was facing someone who was decently skilled for once, and while it was important that he take this individual down, he couldn't help but wonder if this man could be used to test out his new magic.
