Kaori was sitting in the corner of her restaurant named Hibiscus, a former pub that she transformed into quite the marvel. The walls of the restaurant was a large, elegant waterfall that wrapped around the entire room. Behind the waterfall, various goldfish could be seen swimming around completely unaware of the presence of humans in their home. The waterfalls emptied into a receptacle that looked like it was made of glass despite being made of a transparent type of steel, making it highly resilient. In the walls of the receptacle was more freshwater fish that were small enough to not mind the limited space. In the receptacles where the waterfalls empties into, but not in the walls, were koi fish that children could feed if they so desired. The entire floor of the restaurant was another story, and the only one of its kind... They were made of the same transparent steel as the walls of the water fountain receptacles, and under that was sound lacrima that negated even the loudest of foot stomps. Under that was a massive aquarium with various saltwater fish. The Aquarium hosted blue ringed octopi, lion fish, small sharks, pistol shrimp, several different species of tang, eels, and a couple tasmanian giant crab and crayfish were scuttling about the various corals within. Despite there being so many predators, none of them attacked each other no matter how close they got since they were trained to know three things; when meal time was, what was on the menu, and that there was plenty to go around. The bar counter was made of the same kind of steel and showed many different sized lobster and crab in front it. The backboard was made of black steel, and behind the counter were wooden shelves to hold their various cups and glasses. The overhead shelf was made entirely of bloodwood, Kaori's favorite kind for its dark and rich color. The tables were one with the floor, and allowed the smaller fish and eels to swim up the legs and move about the table tops which amused many of the young children as they ate. A bloodwood staircase in the corner lead to rooms that all had bloodwood floors, but aquarium walls. The hallways were bloodwood to make it so no one could spy on the residents, and between each room was a blacksteel wall inside their walls for the same purpose. Sound lacrima provided privacy, and negated any chance of eaves dropping for the more... intimate residents who stayed the night. Small gaps at the top and bottoms of the steel walls allowed the hundred or so tiny fish move about between rooms. These fish were all bioluminescent salt water fish, and even a few small varieties of squid that put on a dazzling display when the lights were turned out at night. All in all, the restaurant was a wondrous place even if the food had a less than luxurious price.

Growing restless, Kaori stood up and decided to pay a visit to a building she hadn't been to in months, the large castle on the far side of port. It was the home of Lady Ceostra's clan, the guild called Lamia Scale. Normally Kaori was contacted by those who wanted her help with things, but for the past couple days since returning from her last mission, no one had come with such a request. Kaori had taken the form of one of the other patrons in her restaurant, a woman with brown hair tied in a pony tail, blue denim jeans and a white blouse. She had green eyes, and wore a pair of gold studs in her ear lobes when she walked out the door. Kaori felt uneasy walking around with her true face outside of Hibiscus, but only while inside of Hargeon; and she felt more uneasy going to Lamia Scale. After she nearly sunk the entire guild hall because she lost control, destroyed an entire room in the medical area, and attacked her only friend; Kaori didn't want to be seen there at all. Standing at the beginning of the bridge that connected the guild's castle and the rest of the port town, she felt a bit uneasy and her magic had began slowly leaking, making the people walking around her feel the same for a brief moment while she bottled it back up. Even though she was disguised, it was still terrifying going into the guild hall, even if it was just to visit the job notice board that wasn't that far through the entrance. It wasn't long that Kaori was in the guild hall before she saw a job that seemed reasonable, some monster was destroying stuff at night and the town wanted it stopped. She took the page off the board and stuffed it in her satchel before leaving for Mt. Hakobe.

Kaori wasn't expecting any company on this mission, nor did she ask anyone to come along. Aside from that split second where her magic had made those around her feel her uneasiness, she had been keeping her magic completely locked up. If anyone approached her between her trip from the castle to the outsides of port to come along, she wouldn't refuse them; otherwise, they'd most likely meet her at the settlements on Mt. Hakobe.

    Leila Vergious Golden Phoenix B-Rank

Normally, this specific sight could only be seen beyond the borders of Fiore, in the other lands that this vast continent had to offer. A fairly large purple caravan that was carried forward by two horses. Though that was about where the normal ended and crazy began, for the two creatures in the front galloped forward at a much higher speed than one would imagine possible. Paired with the fact of the local road being far from perfect and littered with small stones and gravel, it made for one bumpy ride. Something that was quite obvious by the feminine screams from within the wooden structure itself. Then again, it was not a voice of complete discomfort. No, there were other emotions mixed into it as well, more positive ones that surely people would not expect in this situation.

"They're going at it, they really are! I told you that this substance would give the horses a power boost you could never even imagine and you doubted me, you oversized tin can!"

"Savor thine victory screech and do something about them, you buffoon! We will hit someone at this rate! Not to mention, Leila was left behind because of this!"

Inside of the caravan, two figures fought verbally to add yet another layer of absurdity to the situation. One of them was a young and beautiful maiden, a girl that called herself the mighty slime witch. Her name, Megumi Tireheart. While her title might suggest powerful magical abilities, she was actually a pacifist who only specialized in slime magic that could hardly ever harm anyone or aid others in any situation. However, she also had a hobby of alchemy which seemed to cause this grand commotion in the first place. Mixing and matching different ingredients before seemed to have resulted in a strange potion that would enhance strength and agility of certain animals. But as one would have it, the other person in this room did not quite believe in the power of the mixture, so the girl just had to show them the effect directly. And who was this other being in there with her? The nameless golem, a mechanical being called Machias. In other words, a sentient machine. A titan if his body were to be compared to the one of a regular human. He often doubted the abilities of the blond-haired girl and feared for the safety of Leila, his adopted daughter precisely because of things like this. And yet, the caravan was still going down the bumpy road in the middle of mountains without any restraints.

"More trouble than help those two are sometimes, I swear..."

A voice and words meant for no one a fair distance behind the vehicle. As mentioned prior, the Eden's caretaker and leader of this entire gang were left behind when the horses were fed the strange substance and went berserk. So now she had to chase them down on her own. Thankfully, her magic proved to be more than capable of doing so, as the girl was simply sliding on a moss-covered tree trunk bent over, constantly growing and chasing after her target. With a minimal effort required, nature's grasp would soon catch up as the environment itself started shifting about around the vehicle, the cold stones suddenly becoming covered in green, flowers sprouting in a hurry by the road's side and trees forcing their way between the cold stones and growing in an instant. That was the magic of Gardens of Eden, a power that would allow nature itself to blossom and thrive in any conditions. Managing to get ahead, the tree would rapidly curve as a number of azure blue flowers grew on top of its bark, every single one of them dispensing a small amount of glowing pollen. And the moment the horses caught a whiff of it, their speed would decrease rapidly until they came to a perfect stop. Finally having the luxury of not having to hurry, Leila would jump down from her own construct as the tree slowly started falling apart and leaving behind nothing more than a bunch of dust. A sigh would naturally escape between her lips as she watched the two figures tumble out of the caravan, one of them very dizzy from the ride and the other just ashamed that he wasn't able to do anything himself.

"I'm not going to say anything. But next time you want to test something, do it on something other than our own horses, will you?"

Scolding Megumi ever so slightly, the silver-haired maiden would stretch and look around. Mt. Hakobe Settlements. If there was something positive about what just happened, it was the fact that they got here much sooner than they would have otherwise. Only hours earlier, the girl was still standing in the underwater guild hall of Golden Phoenix and staring at the job board. She wanted to make sure there was nothing important going on while she would head out beyond the borders for another adventure with the gang she was currently dragging behind her. But as one would have it, there was something that seemed to require her attention. Reports of beasts attacking homes of innocent humans and even leveling them to the ground. A dangerous request that many would shy away from. Which was precisely why the current holder of the first Rising Star position grabbed it without hesitation. Not to mention, the girl was like a moving army with all the companions she had and could summon. Even in the face of great danger, she was confident. She had to be, for the sake of others. With another sigh, she would turn toward the golem that was now approaching her.

"The contract was uncomfortably vague, but it did mention the beast approaching homes during the night. I suggest we go around and explore the area, get used to it and then wait for nightfall as we prepare ourselves."

When it came down to this specific group and their fighting style, it was slightly all over the place. The golem himself was capable of transforming his body, making him into a moving artillery. And Leila had her own ideals, never wishing to kill anyone unless they were a monster of darkness that was born to destroy others. Despite that, her attacks were often crushing due to the nature of her magic. Few broken bones were what the enemy just had to expect from her most of the time. With a brute style like that, one would also expect the girl to just charge into battle recklessly, no? But that was quite the opposite, as she often relied on preparation between battles a lot. Knowing at least the bare minimum about this place and if there are any other people around was vital.

"Okay, let's move further. But this time, slowly."

Though they did not have to go much further before they had to stop again, as an unknown figure appeared from behind some of the rocks. A woman carrying what appeared to be a katana, heading in the same direction as them. It was pretty obvious that they should speak to her and make sure what her intentions were in this place. After all, the contract had a very urgent feeling to it. It was possible that the contractor sent it into multiple guilds in hopes that someone would accept it as quickly as possible. And so, moving closer to the woman from behind, the Eden's caretaker would speak up.

"You, with brown hair. May I have a moment?"

If they were another mage or a warrior here in order to take care of the enemies, then it would be for the best if they were to work together. And if she was nothing more than a bystander who happened to have a weapon with them for the sake of self-protection, then it was Leila's duty to bring her to safety. In any case, first were always the introductions, so the Eden's caretaker approached this lady, and so did the rest of her gang that kept a little bigger of a distance.

"I apologize for suddenly approaching you like this. My name is Leila Vergious, a wandering mage, and member of the Golden Phoenix guild. I came here to deal with beasts that are terrorizing the innocent at night. Are you here by any chance for the same reason?"

Having reached the edge of town, Kaori whistled and called on her Lava Hawk to give her a ride to the settlement. The creature was more than three times her height, and its wingspan was twice that. The feathers, each made of fire and brimstone had glowed vibrantly even in the daylight. The bird was extremely rare, and nearly impossible to tame while fully grown; Kaori having gotten him when he was just a hatchling was fortunate as he turned into a lifelong ally. She had chosen to use him instead of her bike on account of not knowing exactly how high up she'd have to go to get to the settlements, or whether there was a road for her bike to travel on or not. The bird pressed the top of its beak into Kaori upon landing and letting out soft sounds. Kaori had replied by gently rubbing the large brimstone thing and leaning into him slightly to return his hug. "I know, it's been a while. Are you ready for another fight?" Kaori asked in a soft, loving tone. The hawk pulled back, spread its wings wide and let out a firm screech. He lowered his body and let Kaori climb on. Most sane people would be worried about getting burnt by the magma spewing from the bird's body and lining its every feather, but Kaori had raised this hawk and knew that he considered her his family and would never harm her unless obligated to- which had only ever happened once. The ride to the settlements at Mt. Hakobe was smooth aside from a bit of turbulance part ways in, but nothing her hawk couldn't handle. They had passed a caravan that was moving rather quickly along a dirt path that lead up the mountain, something she would make note of the next time she'd come here, but ultimately paid no attention to the caravan itself. She landed several minutes before the caravan arrived and her lava hawk had taken off, staying in the air in case Kaori needed him rather than being on the ground where he'd have to hop around like some sort of retarded mocking bird.

"You, with brown hair. May I have a moment?" a voice called to Kaori, causing the disguised woman to turn around with a confused look. "Brown...? Oh! I'm sorry about that, give me just a moment please." Kaori said, closing her eyes and bowing her head. A white magic circle appeared around her feet and began slowly turning while rising. The top of the magic circle showed Kaori in her disguised form, but as the circle rose, it showed her true self from the button side of it. Before long, only a few seconds in fact, Kaori had changed to her normal look; having ruby eyes, snow white hair put up in twin tails, and wearing a black and red outfit that cut off at mid thigh. She wore a pair of black stockings that ended an inch or two below her skirt and ran the length of her legs, naturally covering them in the black material. On her feet were a pair of standard dress shoes with a slightly elevated heel, and on her hip was a katana in a black sheathe. The outfit had left her shoulders and arms exposed, revealing the five senbon on her upper right arm, and the five throwing knives on the lower arm. On her left arm was a white glove that covered everything from the back of her palm, up to her shoulder; leaving only the top of a tattoo to be seen. The glove was more of a sleeve as it lacked any fingers, and was held onto Kaori's hand by a single ring on her middle finger; a very elegant but simple design and if Leila was observation, she'd know it was to keep the tattoos hidden. Kaori gave a curious expression and tilted her head innocently to the side while asking "What was it you wished to speak of?" with a gentle enough tone. "I apologize for suddenly approaching you like this. My name is Leila Vergious, a wandering mage, and member of the Golden Phoenix guild. I came here to deal with beasts that are terrorizing the innocent at night. Are you here by any chance for the same reason?" the woman replied, warranting a gentle smile from Kaori.

"I'm Kaori Lareci, head of the Lareci Clan in Midi and an associate of Lady Ceostra from Lamia Scale. Indeed, I'm here to deal with the sudden arrival of a destructive being. From what little I know, it only appears at night but isn't concerned with stealth since it immediately turns to smashing things. I think it'd be best to wait till then to see what our target is and learn of its threat level; I can handle repairing any destroyed buildings. That is... if you're alright working together." Kaori's words would come across genuine, and she would give no signs of being worth being skeptical of. If either of Leila's comrades had the ability to smell faint scents, they'd notice that aside from giving off no magical energy, Kaori also had no scent at all. It was as though the girl were a ghost, but her attire had shown no signs of her being the typical ninja, clad in black, angst, and edgier than a straight razor. Even if Leila's comrades were in the carriage, Kaori would be able to feel their hearts nearby; not their literal heart, but the philosophical one that gave warriors purpose- even machines had that much. "Who are your friends?" Kaori would ask whether or not the two were in front Kaori, or waiting for Leila in their ride.

Nothing ever screamed 'mage' more than a full body transformation right in front of your eyes. Despite being unable to sense any actual magical energy from this girl, it was beyond clear that she actually was one. It wouldn't be the first time she encountered someone with the ability to perfectly conceal their mana or even their very existence. After all, Leila's sister herself has ascended with her powers beyond this realm. After that, she became nothing and everything all at once. Merely 'flowing' through Earthland, her magic unable to be sensed, noise that she makes going unheard and more. Of course, this person's situation was probably different from that, just of the same concept and result. And what more, the new form that the girl was taking on was one much more pleasant to view for the Eden's caretaker, a small blush even adorning her cheeks for a little bit. At least until Megumi sneaked to them and patted Leila on the back.

"The hair could be darker, but other than that, this girl is your type, isn't she? How lucky~ Ugh?!"

Teasing her comrade a little bit only rewarded the slime witch with a mechanical fist which vertically chopped her head in order to teach the woman a lesson about speaking like that in front of a stranger.

"Please, do pardon this one's manners. You may simply call me Golem, for I have no name. A simple traveler and adoptive father to Leila here. It is the utmost pleasure to meet you, lady Lareci."

    "And that one is..."

"Megumi Tireheart! A wandering slime witch of the greatest magnitude! Remember this, Lareci princess... it will be me to discover all the secrets slimes hold! That much I can guarantee~"

"They are my companions, though only the Golem can actually help us in the fight. And of course, I do not mind working together or even following your lead, seeing how you got here before me. If you're an associate of the Gaian, then you're from her guild as well, yes? I don't remember the last time I had the pleasure of working someone from Lamia Scale."

Though Leila never actually met that guild's master, she had heard about her and even sensed her a little bit. Those who came from nature seemed to have a little bit of a bond together others could not feel, or so it seemed.

"Would you happen to know where the attacks already transpired? We should probably visit there first, while we still have some daylight left."

Asking Kaori and gesturing back at her two companions, she silently asked them if they could return back into the caravan and so they did. As per usual, it was in Leila's interest to get to know her partner at least a little bit before they would have to guard one another's back without tripping all over the place. Megumi and Golem would find a safe place for their mobile home in the meantime. From her own experience, the silver-haired maiden already knew that trying to cooperate with someone you knew nothing about at all was nearly an impossible task. Perfect teamwork always required all people present to have absolute trust in the rest. Thankfully, this girl did not come across as someone not worthy of trust. Though whether that was a mere guise was yet to be determined. Then again, if she really was from a legal guild, then there was probably nothing to be worried about in the first place.

"My magic can be used for utility and repair as well, though I am capable of effectively using it against enemy forces without any problems. I'm used to being on the front lines and making sure others don't get hurt if you can work with that at all. There is a chance you might have read about the Gardens of Eden in a book at some point in your life, but in case you haven't... here."

Extending her hand toward the ground only a meter or so away from the two girls, Leila would concentrate a small amount of her magical energy in the fertile soil to grow out a bush of raspberries. Probably nothing too impressive right now, but it was a solid demonstration of her magic overall. Control over nature itself, or rather being in harmony with it and borrowing its power.

"Not only the world around me, I can also adjust my own body with this power as I see fit. As a result, my body can take a lot of punishment that others would never be able to bear. Don't be afraid to let me take a hit if it means protecting you or anyone else."

Saying those words, she would instead move that very hand toward Kaori and roll down her sleeve. What could be seen beneath the fancy midnight blue coat was Leila's skin slowly transforming into something different. The pale pink changing into a dark gray shade adorned with black crack-like shapes. Not only that, this strangely colored skin resembled a tree's bark even to an untrained eye. It was the Eden's corruption. Though right now, there was no point in discussing it's negative effects. The main thing was the fact that it allowed the Eden's caretaker to transform her body freely and even regrow lost limbs or organs. She was immortal indeed, in more ways than one too. Remembering that fact, she actually shuddered a little. It was not a pleasant memory of her own death and revival. But she was willing to sacrifice herself and feel pain as many times as it would take to protect those around her. Why? Because that was her conviction, her goal. She was a stranger to this world, born in the void. And yet, Earthland gave her everything she had right now. And for that, she would defend it and those inside of it to the very end.

"You told me you can handle repairing the broken buildings, but... would you mind sharing a little bit about your magic as well? Of course, you don't have to if you don't want to. I'm quite good at improvising so I should be able to avoid getting in your way even if you don't tell me anything."

Kaori had found Leila's companions to be somewhat amusing, and very different from the average person. The blonde haired one had immediately taken to judging Kaori's body, but her words were left unrewarded as Kaori didn't turn the slightest shade of red, nor did she show any signs of being unsettled. She was sexy and she knew it, but she wasn't so arrogant as to proclaim it to the world and weaponize her looks... well, sometimes she weaponized it, but mostly for messing with people and throwing them off guard and it never went to extremes. "Please, do pardon this one's manners. You may simply call me Golem, for I have no name. A simple traveler and adoptive father to Leila here. It is the utmost pleasure to meet you, lady Lareci." the metal man said, his tone being quite courteous. Kaori bowed to him and said "A pleasure to make your acquaintance Golem. You may not have a name now, but I look forward to learning it when you make your own." in a respectful and soft tome. She understood the concept of not having a true name, and her remedy for that issue was giving yourself a name, or making one through actions. This was the process that gave birth to several legends like the Brute of Fiore, Knight of Death, and Knight of Honor; esteemed warriors from the country's past.

The second one to introduce herself was the one who was oggling Kaori, and interupted Leila's introducing her by saying "Megumi Tireheart! A wandering slime witch of the greatest magnitude! Remember this, Lareci princess... it will be me to discover all the secrets slimes hold! That much I can guarantee~" She seemed quite passionate about the field of study, even though it was a useless field for the most part. Slime could be animated, but their functions were limited to making things slimey, and secreting a very weak acid that only corroded clothes and nothing else... However, Kaori couldn't dismiss her passion as even she could find use for slime, namely making people slip on it for kicks, and gave the girl a smile saying "I wish you great success in your efforts Megumi. Let nothing stand in your way."

Leila had, had her friends go to the caravan for the time being after explaining only the one called 'Golem' was useful in combat. This much let Kaori know that Megumi couldn't even lift a sword or shield, which her build suggested as much. Leila had asked if Kaori knew where all the destruction had happened, and as it turned out, she did. "We'd have to get to the other side of the settlement, where the path leading to the top of the mountain continues." Kaori said calmly and began walking. Leila had taken to explaining her magic "My magic can be used for utility and repair as well, though I am capable of effectively using it against enemy forces without any problems. I'm used to being on the front lines and making sure others don't get hurt if you can work with that at all. There is a chance you might have read about the Gardens of Eden in a book at some point in your life, but in case you haven't... here." she said before growing a raspberry bush seemingly out of nowhere. Kaori, lacking any sense of caution, had pulled one of the berries and eaten it. "Amazing..." she said under her breath, thoroughly astonished at the power. "Not only the world around me, I can also adjust my own body with this power as I see fit. As a result, my body can take a lot of punishment that others would never be able to bear. Don't be afraid to let me take a hit if it means protecting you or anyone else." Leila added, demonstrating this by changing the skin on her arm to a type of bark-ish look that Kaori could only assumed took the same properties as wood. "Even knowing that, I could never 'just' let my allies take a hit. To do so would be a stain on my honor." Kaori replied. While she wasn't a true legal mage, Kaori was the kind of person to jump in a burning building without any protection to save a cat; even though there were firemen perfectly equipped to do the same. She hated letting others put themselves in danger, and her mentality was that there's only enough room for one hero in the group- her.

"You told me you can handle repairing the broken buildings, but... would you mind sharing a little bit about your magic as well? Of course, you don't have to if you don't want to. I'm quite good at improvising so I should be able to avoid getting in your way even if you don't tell me anything." Leila had said. While she said it was okay for Kaori to not share that information, she didn't ask because it was truly okay; she asked because she wanted to know Kaori's magic. "We'll need to get to a less populated area, my magic isn't the kind you use with reckless abandon... it's much too dangerous for that." she stated and began walking at a faster pace to reach the area of town with the least people.

Upon arrival, Kaori looked to the sun to gauge how much time they had left "Ten minutes..." Kaori said under her breath. "My abilities are varied, but mostly localized to my heart and mind." a violet glow would come over Kaori's eyes as well as Leila's body, the woman's hair would begin waving as though she were submerged in water and Leila would lift off the floor. "This isn't magic, but rather a genetic mutation. Other humans normally use ten percent of their brain actively, and the rest used involuntarily; I use twenty percent." Kaori gently lowered Leila to the ground. 'I can also speak into the minds of others, but I can't read their thoughts so it's a one-way line.' she said in the woman's mind. "Using the same set of power I can link two entities, mind and body, so they can understand what the other is going through. I can't use that without a good reason, it's a matter of privacy." Kaori walked over to a house with blood on the floors, and walls that were completely destroyed to give a great view of the three corpses within. She kneeled down and extended her hand to the wreckage and a pulse of energy expanded, showing the structure from before it was destroyed. People were moving around the area, and if any walked to Leila, they would walk through her. "I can view the past of any object or person through a type of reverse clairvoyance, and project that history to the world around me for others to view. Lastly, I can merge the past with the present to restore objects; but not people." Kaori had let the vision fade away, revealing the previously destroyed house was no longer in a state of disrepair; but rather looking like new.

"Those were my mind powers, non magic that I've almost perfected. This is my magic... I'm sorry..." Kaori said and took a breath. The ground below her began glowing a bright white, and Leila would feel her emotions begin to alter... Uncertainty would build up in the woman and mix with sadness. Kaori's shame for attacking her best friend would begin making itself apparent in Leila, followed by guilt for not being able to stop herself. Fear was present, as Kaori didn't know when she'd lose control again. Extreme worry, as her servant and friend was nowhere to be found. Pain... so much pain that Leila would feel her heart imploding would rise, caused by Kaori not knowing how to deal with it all... All of these emotions, Leila would feel at once- just as Kaori did. The ground began fading to a normal color again, and Leila would feel her emotions return to normal. The entire time, even though Kaori was several yards away, Leila would feel as though the girl was standing right next to her, close enough to touch shoulders in fact. "My heart is my magic... I turn my emotions into attacks that far surpass most combat magic, but at the cost of having to keep myself in check so I don't leak emotions all over and effect those around me. I can imbue weapons, create barriers, heal, and deal extreme damage to single targets. Because most mages use their hearts to enhance their spells, I'm also able to use spells that weaken their magic by essentially breaking their hearts. I reserve that for more dangerous enemies though, friend or foe, a person's heart is sacred and I won't alter it without proper cause." Night began falling and Kaori drew her sword, facing the path to the forest and waiting to see if anything would come.

The fact that Kaori gave encouragement to both of Leila's companions was quite interesting. They weren't exactly in a position where they would doubt their abilities or goals, but they appreciated those words still. But what it did mean was that it would be much easier for them to trust this girl they just met in the future, as the way she acted did not feel malicious in any way. So as they all split, Megumi would use her elbow to poke the golem in his side few times the moment they were far enough to not be heard by either of the other girls.

"Hey, hey! Quite an interesting one, that Kaori. I don't think I've met anyone who would just randomly try to encourage me out of nowhere like that, think her words were genuine?"

"Who knows. Not only could I not sense anything from her in terms of magical power, my scanners were completely blank. It was almost as if that girl was not even there in the first place. With a power like that, anyone could easily show fake emotions and faces to others. However, it is not our place to judge. She is going to the crime scene with Leila now, and I have perfect confidence in my daughter. If anything goes awry, before we get there, she will be able to handle it just fine."

His words were rewarded with nothing more than a shrug from Megumi who was about as bad at reading people as one could be. And quite far from there was the due of mages now walking toward the settlement by foot. Sooner or later, Leila would have been able to find the place on her own easily enough, but it was much more pleasant going next to a cute girl and talk to pass the time. Especially since she already knew perfectly well where they were going, or so it at least seemed. As they walked, the Eden's caretaker showed her magic and listened to the amazement and resolve of her new partner, chuckling a little bit when Kaori mentioned honor and how it would not allow her to simply let Leila take the hit in her place. It was admirable, thinking in a way like that. However, there was still a big difference in their bodies and how they were constructed. Considering Leila was quite literally immortal and would not fully die no matter what happened to her, she was ready to protect others at moment's notice, whether they liked it or not. Of course, she did not speak of that out loud, as she did not desire to upset the white-haired girl in any way. There was still a great deal of truth to the fact that self-sacrifice was never the best option. It would do the trick, yes. But it often left many negative feelings such as anger and sadness behind. That too, the girl knew. When she died, it was because she was forced to fight her best friend who was consumed by her own powers. And in order to save her, the Eden's caretaker accumulated all of her own magic to create a seal that would help her friend regain control. But a seal like that, which would remain in place permanently... it required much more than most would be willing to give. One's body, one's magic, and one's soul.

And once the deed was done, the girl was left with nothing but an eternal darkness. A cold and lonely feeling, eating away at what was left of her. And in that darkness, she felt it. Her dear friend crying every single night for days, weeks and perhaps even months. Mourning the Eden's witch's companionship and love. That was the true price of self-sacrifice. People you leave behind, and a great sense of loneliness. Shaking her head to erase these painful memories from her mind, she listened to Kaori as she explained that they had to get further away from the populated area in order for her to show her magic. Something that she could not properly control and would affect everyone around her? Magic like that was always a little bit of a problem when it came to teamwork. Or perhaps it was something else entirely. In any case, there was no way Leila would ditch this girl just because her magic might not be all that suitable for combat in teams. Simply nodding to her words, the two would thus continue wherever Kaori would lead them. It actually didn't take them all that long to be a fair bit of distance from actually inhabited homes. Only the ones that have been broken down by the beast around these parts it seemed. Here, they both stopped as the other girl decided to finally show off her abilities, both magic, and others. The moment that strange energy capture Leila and started to make her float, all of her instincts started screaming loudly, nearly forcing the silver-haired maiden to try and dodge or counter-attack. Thankfully she managed to keep herself in check and instead test how this levitation works.

"A telekinetic powers unlocked by the fact that you can use more of your brain's capacity... am I right?"

Tempted to do a flip in the air, the girl was doing her very best to not be childish and remain in position until her feet were returned back on the earth. There was more to it than just this, however. In fact, this girl's abilities truly were quite varied. In her own head, Leila started connecting it all to a spirit or blood bond magic, something that appeared to be working on a similar principle to these powers. That was how the girl worked most of the time. When faced with new or unheard of facts, she would compare them to something she already knew and was familiar with. That was, the information would become much easier to digest, even if there were differences between the two. In the end, it was always the practical show, seeing it all with her own eyes, that allowed her to fully understand everything.

"I understand not wanting to use such powers unless absolutely necessary. You have a good grasp on what is best for you and your abilities... you would make a fine leader."

Leila would smile at her partner as she continued to explain. These were, as she called it, genetic mutations. Of course, she wanted to ask more about it all, but there was this feeling in the back of her head that it was probably a sensitive topic for Kaori. Thus, no questions were asked just yet, but the possibility was there for the future. Next, the girl would walk over to the wreck of a destroyed home and restored its image from the past. An ability like this was also something that Leila could compare to her prior knowledge. Memoria. A power that allowed to peer into a past of any object, be it organical matter or a synthetic one. However, there was one big difference. Kaori showed that she was capable of realizing the memory into reality as well. In that sense, it could be easily compared to a time-control magic or even a reality shaping magic. Of course, she was not a god. Bringing those who were dead back among the living... it was a task beyond any normal mortal. It was not impossible, but realizing something like that usually fell into the area of the forbidden. It made the Eden's caretaker sight quite heavily and loudly, seeing those corpses. It was something she obviously disliked witnessing, though it was often unavoidable.

"I don't know why you're apologizing, but you don't have to. These powers are amazing in their own respect. But remember, I am here to help. If you don't feel comfortable using something like this at the enemy, then don't. I will do my best to cover your weaknesses and shortcomings."

And with that, they moved onto the aspect of Kaori's magic. It became quickly obvious that it was this why she was apologizing. The ground slowly changed as Leila became capable of hearing her own heartbeat. There was... something. And suddenly, almost automatically, she moved her hand to grasp at her clothes on her chest, as if she was someone whose heart was suddenly failing. Nearly falling over, Leila's body started quickly changing. The hand she showed to Kaori before... that tree-like skin. It started spreading at a rapid pace. And before the other girl was done with her show of this magic, it was covering over half of the caretaker's body, most of her face gray with black markings. One of her eyes turned green in the process as well. And now that it was finished, she was breathing heavily, trying to regain her own composure. Such sight was probably quite surprising, as it seemed that the white-haired beauty only wanted to show a little bit of her magic.

"T... there is something I probably should have said to you earlier. Despite looking like one, I'm not a human. If I were to compare myself to something commonly known, you can probably view me as a celestial spirit. What you're looking at right now is just a physical form I am 'wearing' in order to be capable of interacting with this world without any limitations. A magic that attacks emotions directly... heh. I guess something like that is my greatest enemy right now. Sorry if this appearance startles you, but I'm fine. Whatever you did awoke certain emotion within me that I buried and forced to sleep."

That was the darkness. A demon's wrath. Leila demonstrated her magic to Kaori, showed it's beautiful side. The power to make nature flourish. But the core of that power... the core of Gardens of Eden was pure darkness. After all, this magic was gifted to the girl by a miracle demon in the void. Of course, it would be like this. She disliked disclosing this fact. In fact, no one other than her own summons knew. And Kaori shouldn't know just yet either. Taking a deep breath, she regained her control and the corrupted skin started retracting again.

"Alright... the sun is setting. I'm sure the beast will come to us sooner rather than later. It'd be best to prepare ourselves."

The enemies had come as expected, directly at sundown which left no time for Kaori to react to Leila's words. The enemy was two massive creatures that were seemingly made of bark, but were completely animated. Seeing them barreling down the path, Kaori only blinked a couple times and said "Well... that's a thing." in a slightly surprised tone. She'd seen many things reanimated, corpses included, but never seen a tree animated to attack; but she had heard stories of tries in the Silent Glaciers doing so, just, not being able to move like they were. The tree monster things were easily fifteen feet tall standing on the trunks they used as front legs, and appeared to be mostly physical based creatures. Kaori let out a breath and lifted her blade. "I'll take the one on the left." she said and immediately vanished.

Kaori reappeared in the air above the enraged forest guardian with her right hand held up above her head. A white circle had formed around it that quickly turned into a five point shuriken that was as big as Kaori was tall. It began spinning rapidly, and Leila would feel the air begin getting hotter and a white flame formed all over the weapon. The Enraged Forest Guardian had approached the first of the undamaged houses and Kaori sent her flaming Heavenly Star at the monstrosity, hitting it in its side and sending it falling to in the direction it was hit, landing on an already destroyed house. Kaori vanished again, reappearing on the ground with another two shuriken just like the one she threw before. Kaori had a deep seated connection with animals, her dragon companion Ikuchi was well, and that bond let her use his abilities; two such abilities allowed him to use her spells. Kaori spun on the tip of one of her feet like a ballerina, throwing the first star and then the second; each hitting the creature with deadly force and lighting the spot it hit on fire. The tree creature had turned over instead of trying to get up and got back on its feet much quicker, turning around and trying to land a punch on Kaori. The attack seemed to land, but Kaori had appeared behind the beast and said "Shii-nee" which was followed by the enraged creature exploding. The flames of her attack turned the creature to ash and marked a victory for Kaori.

Kaori would wait till Leila was done with her fight, but if it had seemed she needed help; Kaori would appear in front her with her hand held out, materializing a barrier to block the incoming attack. Of course, that was only if she needed help; otherwise she would be fighting an honorable one on one fight. Once her fight was over, Kaori would say "Now I can say what I wanted to originally..." and walk over to her. Kaori would look Leila in the eyes with an expression that was confident, but not overbearing. "No matter what you look like, or what you truly are; I see you as human. You're able to think and feel, and you have the ability to understand friendship. I don't care what form you take so long as you maintain those qualities." her tone would be professional, genuine, and strong. She turned to face the path that the enemies had come from and began walking down it. "We should work our way up the path and clear out enemies. We might find who or what's sending them."

When faced with broken down homes that were seemingly completely smashed to bits, Leila would really expect some sort of a giant beast. Fiend, a titan or golem, maybe even an oversized werewolf. What she did not expect was what they got, seemingly sharing the same surprise with the other girl as they both watched the trees rolling down toward them for a little bit. Of course, she had already faced creatures like these before on different contracts. Usually, they were spirits of the forest taking a physical form that was close to their nature. Other times, they were puppets of other skilled mages that expertly crafted them prior or during the encounter. If they really were nothing more than lifeless chunks of wood that were instructed to attack this place, then there was no point in holding back and destroying them completely. If they were spirits or other creatures, well... there were usually two methods to dealing with them. Either find out what enraged them and then performing various tasks to calm them down and render them peaceful again or destroying their physical forms and forcing their spiritual one back into nature itself. It was probably quite obvious which method would be better and leave connection between this place and the world of spirits in a better shape, but right now they did not have the luxury of time to find out what they had to do. Something Kaori seemed to agree with by shouting out which one she would tend to. And so, preparing for the fight, Leila moved her hand into one of the inner pockets of her coat and looked toward her partner one last time for a while.

"Ah, I've forgotten a little something while explaining my magic before. I'm also a celestial mage."

From the pocket, she produced a shining golden key, one that many would surely recognize. Taking several steps forward and pointing the magical tool at the enemy heading right for them, her magical energy started to course through it. Such actions would make the summoning key glow with a blinding light as the space in front of the girl started warping on itself, a gate opening and allowing a passage for one of the most powerful celestial spirits in this world.

"I call you forth, you who passes judgment on the stars, you who holds both black and white in your hands and assuring balance amidst them all.
    Heavenly Scales - Libra!"

A magical circle would form in front of the key and a beautiful dark-skinned female in an oriental dress with a katana would step out, one of the twelve Zodiacs! She herself was a force to be feared on many occasions. But there was still more. After all, Leila had to practice her connection to the Gardens of Eden! And there was no point in holding back when protecting this place either. She had an even stronger ally than this, though one she couldn't really control at all. But that was fine, for they had a strong bond still. They were one and the same, their souls resonating. Rising her hand to the skies, she would start chanting again.

"Flowers in the Garden bloom, I seek your aid. You who grew my world out of a single seed, descent and be by my side once again, you who is me, me who is you.
Goddess of the Gardens of Eden - Aurora!"

A giant magical circle would form in the skies, easily overshadowing the entire mountain and it's surroundings, causing clouds themselves to start swirling around in a forceful motion. From the center of this giant magical circle, a light started descending gracefully. One that would finally touch the ground and burst into pieces, revealing the fact that it was hiding yet another female. This one of pale skin with very complex garments, several pairs of different wings adorning her back, staff firmly in hand, brown tail below the wings and a blue halo above her head that also boasted a pair of animal ears. That was Aurora, the goddess who created Gardens of Eden, home to Leila herself and many other spirits. Now that their team grew by a considerable amount, the fight could finally begin.

"Libra, bring it into the air. Aurora, attack it once it's up and bring it back down. I'll take care of it then!"

The Zodiac spirit only silently nodded as she started charging at the woodland puppet, quickly slipping by it's reach and unsheathing it's katana and performing a single horizontal slash, leaving a fairly deep cut in the beast. While that did leave some damage, it was not actually the true purpose of her attack. Not even a second later, the beast was lifted off the ground as the flow of gravity was changed around it, now pulling it away from the ground and into the air where Aurora was already waiting, floating in the air as the many pairs of her wings flapped gracefully.

"Summoning me to fight something like this... you never change, Leila. I hope there is more than just this waiting for us."

Pointing her staff at the living tree, eight different black needles appeared behind the goddess' back and suddenly flew forward, slamming into the enemy and piercing its body while forcing it back down. At that point, Leila was already ready and sprinting in to get close enough, jumping into the air as her right arm started transforming into several wooden roots. And with a single strong punch, that transformed hand would get stuck in its body and start expanding again, tearing the wooden body apart, creating a propulsion that threw the best into the ground and shattered it completely. Landing on the ground with a sigh, both her spirits would place themselves behind her as Kaori approached them again. The words she proceeded to say were warm and encouraging, once again making the Eden's caretaker blush and smile.

"I see. I'm glad you see things in that way, it's a good way of thinking. Please, do hold onto it. We're right behind you."

    Memory Scene

It had seemed that they would be fighting spirits again, much like the time Kaori went with Samira to help her find a specific celestial key. For some odd reason, Kaori was drawn to Celestial Mages like moths to a fire, and she didn't even try. She wanted to leave now that she knew she had to kill beings filled with knowledge, but then her mind moved back to her first day of recovery. Just after Samira had vanished, Kaori had leaned against the wall and narrowed her gaze on Kaori as she laid in bed in a what may as well have been a vegetative state. "You know, people normally react when they get bitch slapped." she said, her black eyes seeming the glare down at her weakened self. Still, even when talking to herself she was completely silent... This version of Kaori wasn't like her other ones... she was much more blunt and knew how to get things done. She walked over and grabbed Kaori by her neck and hauled her out of the bed before slamming her againist the wall. "Whats the difference between a king and his horse?" she asked with an irritated tone. Kaori had opened her mouth to reply, but was cut off immediately by her darker self. "I dont mean some kiddy shit like 'one has 4 legs and the other has 2' or 'ones a person and ones an animal.' If their form, ability, and power is exactly the same, then why is it one becomes the king and controls the battle and the other one becomes the horse and carries the king?" Kaori had looked herself in the eyes and said "I..." "Because the horse allows it!" she screamed and threw Kaori to the floor. She walked over and slammed her foot on Kaori's back, ignoring the disting popping sound of a dislocated rib. "I'm getting sick of your shit... you're going to make a decision. Do you want to remain the king in this relationship, or become my horse? Cause I'm not gonna carry dead weight."

Samira was right... Kaori ran away after regaining consciousness because she was afraid. She was afraid that she might attack Samira again. She was afraid that Samira would hate her. She was afraid that the false Samira would come back and begin attacking her again. She was afraid that she would cause more harm to the people in the castle than she already had. She was afraid Lady Ceostra would banish her. She was afraid Ikuchi would only see the face of weakness and failure when he looked at Kaori. She had left Ashley behind to keep her from being hurt, Ikuchi to keep her safe, and Gabriella to keep him from doing abnormally insane things... or, that was the lie she told herself. She didn't want Ashley to find out what she'd done. She looked at Kaori like some kind of hero, only a rank or two below Ikuchi, her savior. If she found out that Kaori had been compromised... she'd likely never view Kaori the same again. Ikuchi was obligated to fight his master, and Kaori had neglected him and his goals for so long... she knew what he was trying to do, but never let him get close enough for it. Gabriella... she had actually left for Ikuchi's sake. They got along, and she would be happier in his presence; she always was. "I don't hear answering..." Kaori said impatiently while turning her foot, grinding the heel further into Kaori's back.

Samira had thought Kaori was fine, that she was moving along and allowed herself to begin recovering only for Kaori to shatter her life by yet another stupid decision. She had stopped eating because she was too stressed to keep food down, she stopped drinking for the same reason. Her dreams were plagued with nightmares, and only allowed an hour or two on the best of days and a few minutes on the worst. Her spirits were left helpless as she didn't dare speak to them. It was her fault they had to fight Aquarius, and Kaori herself and she couldn't stand hearing them not attack her- as if everything was fine and it wasn't. Ikuchi had blamed himself for fighting Kaori, and had begun doing things to help her. Her eyes flew open and became alive, then became fierce and a blast of energy was released behind her, slamming into Kaori and sending the dark bitch flying to the wall. "A simple 'King' would have sufficed..." she said in a pained tone while sitting with her back against the now slightly dented wall. Kaori used her telekinesis to get up, and float to where the wooden box was on the bed, half hanging off from when the dark Kaori began her own intervention. She rushed to open it and took out a small letter that looked less fancy than the others, and had a hibiscus stamped on the envelope in wax.

    'Kaori,

I can understand if you hate me for what I did, but I hope you can forgive it with time. I shouldn't have raised my blade to you, but rather, as your servant, supported you and attacked Samira. However, I had to make a conscious decision on how I thought of you and act based on that. You were never afraid of me, and always treated me as a human. You helped me understand humans, and never ceased encouraging me to continue learning about them. You didn't mock my fascination, and even in your heart you showed the same kind of love. However, as much as you'd given to me, I was never able to return to you. You were always in pain, consumed by your past and made vengeance your goal. I wanted to be more than a servant to you, but I could never earn your trust... still, I consider you my dearest of friends, so I made a decision to support that. Samira was the focus of all your adoration, and since you couldn't protect her, I did it in your stead. I did my best, but ultimately I couldn't stop your darkness... I'm sorry.

You're an incredibly strong person Lady Kaori. I know that once you speak with Samira, your heart will ignite and give birth to a new flame to replace the one that was extinguished. This is the kind of human you are... In preparation for your return, I set aside my hatred for your lover, Samira, and ventured to the magic hating kigdom of Pergrande and secured a title of nobility that I transferred to you. I've done the same with Minstrel, and even negotiated a trade agreement between the two while enforcing your rules to their caravans. In the box, you'll find the objects you were looking for as well, a rather strange weapon but I understand why you wanted to keep it from your brother. I lost my honor when I fought you, and forfeited my right to serve under you- so I am now a ronin, a servant without a master. My last wish is that you can be happy with Samira, and that you'll never stop smiling for her. May we never meet, even when the sun rises on my ashes.'~ Ikuchi

    Back to Reality

Kaori opened her eyes and let out a breath of air. There was still the matter of finding Ikuchi, which was something she may be able to do if she finds the spirit controlling these ones. Leila had said she was right behind her, and Kaori shot off towards the path with her sword fully sheathed. Creatures began rising from the ground that Kaori could identify as being the kind of spirits that were partially undead, specters. She held her hand out, forming a naginata in it which could imply that she was using a requip spell since she used magic to form the weapon. The weapon shone with white energy and gave off the same kind of magical presence that a Celestial Spirit would give off... except it was a weapon. The blade had intricate markings engraced on the broad side of the blade that were a language that had been dead for millions of years, predating human language... predating humans entirely. She vanished and reappeared in front the first specter and slammed the weapon on the ground, releasing a large shock wave that sent the creature flying back while vanishing back to wherever it came from. She would continue moving up the mountain while cutting any enemy that got in her way down to size, not stopping until she had reached a set of stairs several minutes later where she'd wait for Leila. At that point, she would tell Leila that she was having her take the front- meaning she'd be leading them up the stairs and deciding their path from there on.

    Leila Vergious Golden Phoenix B-Rank

It seemed that celestial magic was no surprise to Kaori, as she did not even really react to Leila pulling out the golden key and summoning a Zodiac spirit of all things. Or a goddess of another realm that arrived in a way most spectacular and flashy. Leila had never even heard of this white-haired beauty, but was there a chance that this girl was actually really famous? Well, it would not be all that surprising. The Eden's caretaker was the first Rising Star herself, but most people had never even heard of her. It was little disappointing, honestly. But that did not quite matter right now, for they had a job. And as was to be expected, Kaori led the way right away without stopping for a bit, even when foes appeared. For that, Leila's group prepared for combat as well. Though doing so was clearly completely useless, as their partner would take out the monsters that appeared as ghosts in such a short time that they didn't even have an opportunity to get in and help. In the end, it was apparent that this girl was very special and strong after all. So as she charged forward and faced the danger, the silver-haired maiden fell behind slightly along with her summons, her head hanging somewhat low.

Unwanted thoughts were seeping into her mind... an unwanted desire. Yes, Leila was the Rising Star number One, but what good did it do her? No one really cared about the heroine that was doing her very best to protect people both inside and outside of Fiore. It was a title she always wanted. But now that she had it, it felt... empty. No, rather than that... there was a shadow cast over it. Yes, the real heroes were the saints. Ten mages chosen by the council as the strongest and kindest individuals of this continent. But there was a problem. Leila did not believe she was able to reach such height. She knew that the spots were quickly disappearing as more powerful mages appeared. And the only other way to obtain such title was to challenge someone already holding it and defeat them. But... she could never do something like that. Even if she was strong enough to face one of the saints, she could never just challenge them to a duel in order to steal their spotlight. It felt wrong to her. Almost like the exact opposite of what she should be doing. Stealing a title was not something a true hero should do. It was infuriating. Perhaps she could be recognized even without the position, but... no, it wasn't entirely just about that. It was about having goals. And the girl realized she had none to strive for. She wanted to protect people no matter what. It was something she shared with many others. And no matter how hard she worked, she always seemed to fall behind.

That was where the truly unwanted feelings came into play. Jealousy. It was something that plagued her for a long time now. Even her best friend... she was jealous of her best friend's abilities and status! How could have she allowed things to come so far? No matter that, she had no idea how to stop it, how to help herself. And no one else could have saved her from this either... and if they could, then it would all just be the same. She would just be the baggage dragging everyone down with her problems instead of helping. She didn't want to end up like that. She didn't know what to do with herself anymore. Ah, perhaps it would be better to just leave Fiore completely and return to traveling the continent? That way, she would not really be a mage anymore, she would not be required to help people with their annoying chores. She would be free to do whatever she wanted without having to worry about petty titles that meant nothing in the grand scheme of things. No, she couldn't allow herself to think like that. It wasn't only about her, but her companions as well. She owed it all to them as well. She had to push forward and achieve even greater heights... even if she did not know how to. All she could do was to pray and do her very best. Suddenly, she was thrown out of these thoughts as she nearly collided with Kaori who stopped all of a sudden. Instead of leading the way further, she said that Leila should be the one leading from now on instead. Which was quite puzzling to the Eden's caretaker.

"Huh... um... okay. There are more magical signatures up there, but... what are these stairs, I wonder?"

She would probably not get an answer, so she merely continued up them, a little bit slower than Kaori's speed before. Libra was right by her side as well, though Aurora seemed to hang behind them instead. It probably looked like she was trying to guard their back, but the truth was that the Eden's goddess was rather skeptical of everything and everyone. Even after all that Kaori did and said, she still had her eyes on the white-haired girl. Though more enemies started to quickly appear again, meaning she had a job to do. A proper one. More of those ghost-like beings, though they were easily dealt with by the goddess' magic, as the eight dark energy balls rotated around her and then started bouncing around the battlefield shaped as needles, easily piercing the ghastly forms. Even if their composition was ethereal, Aurora's magic was very special and capable of interacting even with beings like that. But that was hardly it. The ground suddenly shook as something huge roared in the distance. And as if answering that horrid call, a rather large group of spectral beings came from the ground. If the girl was counting right, there were at least 19 of them.

"So many...! Kaori, can you give me a ha-"

Pretty sure that she would need her partner's help with this one, she started asking but did not quite finish. Something interupted her. Something actually good for once. The night's sky would light up in a crimson red light as a flare went off along with a good number of sharp orange lights falling to the ground at high speed. Mortars with special magical dust mixed in. The bombs would fall all over, seemingly at random but actually aimed at the groups of the angry spirits. And just like that, majority of them was actually annihilated without a problem.

"I apologize for being so late. Megumi insisted that you have actually gone in a different direction."

It was the golem who caught up to them and decided to attack the enemy from distance in order to help. He did not have magic per say, but Leila did mention he was capable of fighting. His entire body was capable of transforming into a weapon, as he was a little bit of a moving artillery. The girl could only reward him with a bright smile and then look at the rest of the enemies. Obviously there was something big ahead. But first, they probably had to deal with the rest of these little guys. And of course, Kaori was still free to join the fun despite the plea for help prior being cut off.

    Post by ○Kaori 15th October 2017, 9:52 am

Kaori had let Leila take the lead on this one to see her resolve, and noticed one of her spirits had stayed behind. Kaori got a bad vibe from the spirit, not so much the kind you got while walking down a dark alley lined with thugs, but more along the lines of the feeling she got around Kali, one of her friend's spirits that was the celestial incarnation of another dimension's deity belonging to a multi-deity religion. Leila was slower than Kaori by a fair margin, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing, it just means her combat abilities lay elsewhere. With Samira it was the same, she was immaculately slow on while moving, but she made up for that with her spirits and her lightning fast thinking. Up ahead was a large group of enemies numbering nineteen that Leila was about to request some help with, but as though he were rehearsing his entrance, Golem the nameless warrior had arrived and taken out quite a few.

They were in a part of the mountain that looked like a large shrine, it measured fifty yards in diameter but from afar didn't even look like anything more than part of the mountainside. Part of the mountain was cut out to make room for the area, and out of the walls of the mountain three of the large creatures from earlier had come out. Blocking the path ahead was the remnants of the nineteen that Leila's companion had taken down, and blocking the path leading back down was ten ghosts. The shrine had the three tree spirits getting ready to charge, and the only other option was off the side of the cliff. 'Do it.' the deep voice echoed in Kaori's mind. "You sure? Technically this is one of your days off." Kaori said out loud, seeming to be speaking to no-one since not a single person had mentioned any form of working schedule. 'I finished cooking dinner, just waiting on Charlotte to get back. This can burn some time, lemme have two of the big ones.' the voice echoed. Kaori gave a gentle smile "Suit yourself, over achiever." she said with a light chuckle. "Leila, I've got the big guys- I trust you can handle the rest." she declared. It was a question 'can you handle them' no, Kaori declared that Leila could handle them, she had faith in the girl and her spirits. Kaori began charging the beasts and threw her naginata in the direction of two of them. "Open!" she shouted, the first part of a chant that Leila should know all too well... "Gate of Beasts, Mammoth!" three black magic circles appeared on the weapon, the first at the tip, the second in the middle, and the last at the very end. They all spun while the first and last moved to meet the middle, seeming to consume the naginata before expanding and a massive hulk of a man with a thick coat of fur on his back, two mammoth tusks sticking out from under it. He held an ethereal hammer in his hand and using his fist, punched the first tree monster in the face. This one was charging forward, so when Mammoth's fist stopped it, the creature flipped over mammoth from inertia. The second creature wasn't far behind, and Mammoth hit the bottom of its face with the hammer, releasing a shock wave that sent it flying to the roof of the shrine where it bounced off and returned to the ground to get another bashing on the head with the ethereal weapon. The one that flipped got back on its feet and tried crushing Mammoth under its hand, but the man only grabbed the tree limb and flipped it back on its side before tearing the limb off and beating the beast with it, ending the fight.

While that was going on, Kaori had turned from one Kaori into ten Kaoris and charged the third enemy. All of her variants had the same magic as Kaori, and all ten had called their shirofune out while imbuing the swords with magic and changing the element of it to Holy Flames. They all struke the creature one by one while it flailed around trying to swat the annoying little flies, and once all of them had a Shirofune inside it, they all said 'Shii nee' which was the Midi (Japanese) word for 'Die' and the creature exploded brilliantly. Ash rained down as the remnants of the creature were incinerated down to the last twig, and the nine extra Kaori's all vanished and looked to see how Leila was faring. Upon confirming that the enemies had all been disposed of, even helping Leila finish them off if needed, Kaori would hear something moving behind her. The roaring of a bear that was bigger than the tree monsters was heard before Mammoth moved behind her and stopped a paw as big as Kaori herself from hammering her. He was preparing to attack when Kaori shouted "Stop!" causing Mammoth to stand down. The sight of her stopping the attack made the bear retract his paw and stare at Kaori. "Leila, don't attack. This is the one we needed to talk with." Kaori would say in a calm voice. The bear seemed to understand her as its eyes narrowed and it sat on its hind legs out of intrigue.

Kaori had stood in front he great bear and looked at it with a stoic expression. She took a step forward and paused as it began snarling at her, end then resumed at a slower pace. Mammoth had stood down as asked, but stayed close enough to smash the bear's face in if it tried to hurt his wizard. Kaori had managed to get a few feet from it and she extended her bare hand to the spirit, to which he replied by placing the tip of one of his claws in it. Humans greeted each other by shaking hands, and bears would occasionally touch paws, but it was a rare action with no known significance. The bear did this simply out of a desire to see what would happen.

Energy began pooling around Kaori and the bear, white strands swimming around Kaori like fish in an aquarium and green ones around the spirit. Kaori closed her eyes and let herself feel the bear's heart, feeling the pain of betrayal he felt, and the bear feeling the lack of knowledge that Kaori had. He felt that Kaori was a very kind person who had cruel tendencies, killed because she had to, and favored knowledge and understanding over displays of brute force. He could feel that she wasn't from the area and knew little of his troubles, and that she wanted to understand them to find out why he was attacking the village below. Kaori felt that he was angry, and hurt but didn't hate humanity. The two of them had an understanding of each other, and the strands around them had both vanished. Kaori put her hand down and the bear let out a sad sound. "Can you tell us why you're sending the other spirits to attack the people below?" Kaori asked, to which the bear had gotten up to stand on all fours. He tapped his finger on the rocky ground to sprout a trail of flowers leading up the mountain... all the way to the top. He vanished from sight, giving no time for Kaori to request a ride. Kaori had went to Leila and said "Sorry I didn't tell you about them, but I can also summon celestial spirits. Don't confuse me for a Celestial Wizard though, I only have five spirits and don't rely on them nearly as much as true celestial wizards."

Kaori then said "Snoop Genie" and a black man with dreads and some strange clothing showed up. "Ey, what it do?" he asked in his usually cheerful tone. "Can you get us to the top of this mountain?" Kaori asked calmly, as though summoning beings from other dimensions that clearly broke the fourth wall that she knew nothing of was a normal thing. The great and mystical snoop genie walked to the path and looked up the mountain. "Oh damn, das a long way up. That's cool, I got-chu baby. BOOM!" the words 'smoke weed everyday' was heard being sung over the winds as his spell was cast and the two mages and their companions would arrive at the top of the mountain. "Thanks, that's all for now." Kaori said, to which Snoop Replied "So you ain't gonna tell me bout dat giant ass bear?" "Stick around and watch." Kaori answered and approached the bear. The bear lead them over to a shrine that was basically a circular rock on top of several pillars- a rock table. The rock on top was cracked in half... which would explain why he was pissed off. "You wanna repair this, or should I?" Kaori asked Leila.

Three spirits and a mechanical golem that was designed in such way that he should be capable of defending himself from anything that could possibly attack him in this world? Yes, they got it alright. Though Leila kinda wanted to go on ahead and help Kaori. Though, of course, she would probably only get in the way if she did that. So as the other girl summoned her own helper in her own unique way, the Eden's caretaker would stop right behind her and hang her head somewhat low as she turned around to see all the ethereal beings that remained on the battlefield.

"Yes. Since you're in the lead, go ahead and dispose of them while I clean up what is left here."

It seemed that her voice was quivering a little bit, but not much. With a single sight, the white-haired girl would charge at the three giant enemies that were far stronger than these pitiful souls, floating around and being unsure what to do with themselves.

    "Just finish them."

On that command, Libra would jump into the middle of the battle and point her katana into the skies as a vortex of air started appearing above her. Though in reality, she created a new center of gravity that started sucking all toward it, including air and the ghosts. In mere seconds, they resembled one giant ball of blue and white glowing ethereal energy that wasn't even properly able to move. It was quite the sad sight, really. Aurora came from behind and sight herself as the eight black balls moved toward the gravity core as well, expanding until their mass connected and formed a hollow ball with all the spirits inside. All it took after that was a snap of the goddess' fingers, portions of the black bubble transforming into needles that pierced everything inside of it. A brutal technique, but one that disposed of the lost souls quickly. They all already perished, so what did it matter. They could not feel pain. Right...?

"Being handed these fools to deal with while she takes all the glory, quite frustrating, isn't it?"

"I don't need your dull ideals now... the battle is over, you can all return."

With those words, the girl forced both open gates shut, watching as her spirits disappeared into the thin air, leaving behind nothing more than a bit of golden glow that faded as well. Only the golem was left, approaching his daughter who turned around to see Kaori just about done with her enemies as well.

"Stay here and guard the area, please. It looks like we're about done here, it'd be best to not be ambushed at the last moment."

The mechanical being nodded and started analyzing the are in his own way, the girl taking few steps forward before she spotted the bear that suddenly showed up and tried to attack her partner. Though it was quickly stopped and seemingly pacified. Not feeling such a rush of urgency as before, Leila would just slowly approach the scene, watching it unfold. From the outside, it seemed like not much was happening. But the Eden's caretaker knew how it really was and waited patiently until Kaori approached her again.

"If that's the reason, then I guess I'm no celestial mage either. Aside from Aurora who is a special case, I have access to only five celestial spirits as well. And I can't blame you for not wanting to reveal everything about your powers to me in case I tried to stab you in the back."

As the girl spoke, Kaori probably noticed that her eyes were now green rather than blue. Though nothing else was changed at all. Leila watched the other summoning of a rather... unique being that had a rather unique way of transportation, one that she would rather avoid in the future or ever even think about again. But this was it. The spirit waited by it's damaged shrine and all they had to do was repair it.

"My abilities extend only to the living nature of this world. I can repair homes by having vines and trees piece them back together like a puzzle, but this is not something I can fix with my power. You can do it, Kaori. You're an amazing mage that can do anything she puts her mind at... I wish I was as good as you, even just a little bit."

Once the shrine was repaired, the monster would surely no longer have a reason to rampage and kill people in this region. And with that, their contract would be fulfilled. If that was indeed the case, Leila would thank her partner in a hurry and open up her own gate, a fairly big blue portal that she would jump into and disappear. As unfortunate as it was, she felt... wrong. So very wrong that she did not desire to stay any longer than she had to.

The ending to the mission left a slightly sour taste in Kaori's mind as she felt as though she'd offended the summoner somehow. She had returned the shrine to its former glory to satisfy the nature spirit, but she would have rpeferred to see the girl do it, even if the shrine looked different... Nature changes, that's just how it works and the new shrine would have likely looked beautiful. Leila would get a small, rectangular box containing an envelope and a single coin of sorts. It was delivered by Kaori's lava hawk who only stuck around long enough to leave the box with whoever was driving the carriage, and then leave. The coin was made of bloodwood, a rare and exotic wood made from a tree that when cut, seemed to bleed because of the crimson sap inside. It was polished to a shine to bring out the beauty of the wood, and inside it was pure gold that formed the outline for a hibiscus. The letter had Leila's name on it, and it was sealed with a wax seal that had a hibiscus stamped into it.

    'Leila,

When we last spoke, you left before I could say anything and I could tell you were troubled by something. Understand that you are, by all means, anything you wish to be. You may call yourself a celestial wizard if your definition of one matches, but mine does not. I never judge others based on my grading scale for myself, otherwise I'd have very few allies. I'm not so 'amazing' as you think I am. Many of my spells explode on me, or suck out more magic than they should... My magic is only capable of killing, and hurting those around me and yours can be used to help. I'm able to restore old things, but I cannot make anything new. I didn't tell you about my spirits because I didn't anticipate needing them, not because a lack of trust.

If we ever meet again, I look forward to seeing how much you, Golem, and Megumi have grown. I anticipate seeing your wonderous magic in the works, and finding out if Golem had even made a name for himself. I'd also like to see Megumi's magic, even if it's perceived as useless. As far as I can tell, both of you are just as good as I am, even better, when it comes to magic. I... admittedly, am still learning how to control it. Till next time,
