Though its existence was still young, the Silver Moon Inn had become a staple for many in Rose Garden. Its sudden appearance in the city was quiet and without much fanfare, the affordable world-class cooking and lodging was enough to make it an instant hit with tourists and locals alike. Less than a year after it had been established, the Inn garnered rave reviews from local magazines and newspapers—the Black Rose guild that staffed and operated it relished quietly in the profits, using the funds for guild activities and renovations to the building alike.

For Karin Sørensen, however, it was far too noisy—the city, the hubbub of the inn, and everything associated with it—it was too much, and she was frequently out of town because of it. Still, she remained a member of the guild, if only because it was better to have lodging she could call her own. As a result of her perennial absence from daily guild life, however, she lacked knowledge of most of her guild mates—she only one she could name off the top of her head was Jiyu, and even then she knew the shape-shifting girl hardly at all. It bothered her to a degree, but not enough for her to go out of her way to suddenly become a social butterfly.

Her most recent, and longest, trip out of Rose Garden had been to Seven. Land of magic and wonder that it was, there was a far more personal reason that she had decided to visit Fiore’s ally—it was home. It had been the first time she had been able to step foot inside the country’s borders for years, and it had been quiet for the first few days. Her first stop had not been the province and village where her family lived, but to the forests and woodlands she had cherished growing up. They were far more serene than the ones in Fiore—the magic literally glowed in the brush and trees, and the air tingled with a vibrancy that her residence for the past several years had lacked. When she had first step foot in those wondrous woodlands, instant relief in the familiarity washed upon her—from then on, she had truly been at ease for the first time in what felt like eternity.

The reunion with her family had been a surprise—to them, of course. Regardless of the circumstances behind her return, the twins and her stepmother had been visibly overjoyed to have her back. Her father had returned later that evening from the market, and had a more subdued, though still elated reaction to the return of her daughter. Since they hadn’t been able to exchange letters, the whole family told stories about what had happened over the past several years since she had been exiled. For a whole three months she stayed with her family, and for a three whole months the word had spread in town that she was back—old friends, curious about how she was back, came by to see that it was in fact the young woman in question.

Alas, it had to come to an end. With a promise to write frequently, and a tearful goodbye to her half-sisters, she started her return journey from Seven back to Rose Garden.

Karin lifted the hood of her jacket as she walked into the Inn’s lobby. She was exhausted from the trip back to Fiore, and wanted nothing more than to slink into her room upstairs and sleep—however, knowing the nature of her guild mates, it would not do to simply walk back in unannounced after so long an absence. It was the dinner hour, and the restaurant floor calmly buzzed with the quiet conversations of patrons and guild members alike; few seats were open, and the ones that were still needed to be bused.

As she started to walk towards the stairs in the back of the lobby, she was stopped by the irate growl of her stomach—in her brisk pace of travel, she had forgotten to eat that day. The smells of cooking made her mouth water slightly, and her eyes wandered towards the kitchen...
