Woe, Woe unto the Tidings of War.

Post by Aera Tylidae on 19th August 2017, 5:28 am

It was a note upon the wind, tattered and illegible, which caught my eyes. I plucked it from the air as it passed me by on the stinging desert winds as I walked far along the way I'd taken from my first true home. I followed my senses to a far off place, on the edge of a dark territory to which stunk of death to my nose, something I'd gotten to know personally recently. I followed my nose to a village, which was destroyed, and smelled of sulfur and other noxious elements, like something ignited the entire village at once, or rather like a smell used to cover a slight sickly sweet scent, which permeated underneath the gaseous smell. Upon further inspection to the village, I noticed a page on the wall, almost burned entirely away, but for some reason wasn't entirely burnt. I read the unburned portion, which read that the Council had set out a bounty, on monsters which invaded past their border, of which is Fat Monster-land.

I read this for a moment, before perking my ears up at hearing motion from behind me. I became shadow instantly, and hid among the charred ruins of this village, holding my breath so that I didn't gag on the scent. I watched an unknown figure enter the village, probably making their initial observations about the village and what had happened here. I looked on at them, fearing that they may have seen my physical figure disappear into the smoke, judging their intent on what they chose to see and do, and wonder if they'd make a better hunter, or if they'd just end up as prey.

    Strawberry

The Fat-Monster Lands was one of the very few places that the maid of Grim Heresy never wanted to go to, despite her innate desire to travel around the world. It was filled with monsters of all shapes and sizes, and said monsters would hunt her down and make scrap metal out of her. They'd tear her bit by bit, leaving nothing to spare. This area was the one place Strawberry could say she was absolutely, positively afraid to go to, but not actually because of that reason. Being ripped apart or destroyed was never a concern of hers, she could easily just be rebuilt of course, but the thing was that if monsters would hurt her, she'd more than likely hurt them back. And that was what she was afraid of, because of her built in pacifist programming. She couldn't bear to hurt anyone or anything that was living, regardless of how good, evil, pure, or tainted they were. However, as of a couple weeks ago she now has a system that can override that, which makes her even more scared of engaging in combat. If she were to get hit even once, there'd be no telling what she could do. Of course, she wasn't the most powerful of mages around, and her magic was mundane in combat, but she still achieved feats none expected her to achieve when she was in battles - if none believed her, they could look at her memory chip.

Today she was forced to come to the Fat-Monster Lands by order of the Augury, due to the monsters crossing over Fioran borders and attacking villages. This was good for Grim Heresy, but bad for Strawberry as an individual. The Augurs ordered her to go to the Fat-Monster Lands not to hunt down these monsters, but to ally with them, and defeat a group of hunters that were coming to kill the monsters. How the Augury came to learn about these hunters, Strawberry didn't know, but regardless the robot maid had to come to the rescue, defeat and likely kill these hunters, and let the monsters be. She was glad she didn't have to kill any of the monsters, but if push comes to shove Strawberry would have to defend herself, not just from the hunters but from the monsters as well. This was bad for her, but they didn't care in the slightest, and only gave her an order that she of course had to accept.

Why must I kill or harm others... It is such a terrible thing to do - or... Or perhaps... Maybe my NOT wanting to hurt and kill is what the problem is. I can't fight my own programming, and Pantheon did say the pacifism was a result of a glitch, so maybe if I ask them to- NO! Not happening. I'll just find a way to do this job, I guess...

The maid stepped through a Door, the portals that lead to all around the world from Grim Heresy's guild hall. This Door led her directly to the Fat Monster Lands, and onto a mountain... or rather a large hill. She could see in the distance a destroyed village at the base of the hills, and behind her was a forest reaching the higher part of the hills. Thinking no one would come to aid her, as this was indeed a solo mission, Strawberry summoned two Ash Wights, and commanded them forward. She followed of course, with her trusty yet never rusty frying pan in hand. This utensil was oddly enough an artifact-grade weapon that was entrusted to the maid, which was her only method of defending herself in combat. Up until this point, she relied only on the Ash Wights in combat.

Without a moment to spare, Strawberry came across a pack of cyclops. They were, however, asleep, so Strawberry took this moment with ease.

    "Ash Wights, you may feed."

Soon, the lava-made zombies were upon the sleeping giants, the burning lava instantly melting the flesh off of whichever one it went for first. Two cyclops were dead within seconds, the flesh of their neck and face melted entirely as the Wights fed off of them. Then the next two, then the next. All six were dead within seconds, and the two Wights began to feast off of the bodies of the cyclops, opting to go for the torso and limbs after the face, that way they'd have a dead meal instead of a living one. This worked better for Strawberry as well, because if they attacked the torso, the cyclops might awaken and scream in pain, thus awakening the rest, and therefore pose a threat to her.

"Those were the weakest ones down, but I must save the stronger ones to defeat the hunters... Wait... The briefing said cyclops come in packs of 12 minimum, 20 maximum... Where are the other 6?"

Strawberry pondered the thought while the Wights fed. Little did she know the hunters had gotten there before her, and they already began taking down the monsters, including the leftover cyclops. Her thoughts were interrupted by footsteps, and the Wights vanished as she turned to see the source, readying her frying pan in case it was the hunters, or any hostile monsters. It was coming from the direction of the destroyed village, so she doubted the latter option, but it was a possibility nonetheless.

Dradali clutched a piece of paper in her hands, walking slowly but with purpose to the place she had been called to. The paper in her hand spoke of monsters that normally resided in Fat Monsterland running amok. Supposedly, some villages had already been destroyed, while others were still barely standing. The Magic Counsel had been calling for mages to push the beasts back, and Dradali decided that she was going to be one of them. 'I can't just let these innocent people be harmed' Dradali thought to herself, increasing her pace. She had been hesitant at first about whether or not she could handle such an important task, but nevertheless came to the decision that she couldn't just sit and watch while it happened. Just ahead of her stood a desolate ghost town, burnt and crumbling from the non relenting attacks it had previously received. There was no going back now. As she entered the town, the putrid smell of burnt flesh and blood filled her nostrils. She winced and covered her nose. What had she gotten herself into? Corpses were strewn all over the place, and blood splattered the ground and what was left of the buildings. This was the cruelest thing she had ever witnessed. She stopped walking for a moment and closed her eyes. "Calm down Dradali. If you freak out now, you're going to be distracted while getting rid of these monsters later. Those awful... Disgusting monsters" she whispered, before forcing herself to continue walking through the wasteland. As she got nearer to the exit, she hear a small noise coming from behind her. She quickly whipped around to see if anyone was following her, but could see no one. She shrugged it off and swiftly made her way out of the village. The land before her was desolate and quiet. The only sounds seemed to come from the wind blowing through the few trees that were spread out across the hills. The eerie silence made her quite uneasy, considering this land was supposed to be full of monsters. She cautiously made her way forward, being always aware of her current surroundings. After a short time of walking, Dradali heard what seemed to be the sounds of... Eating? "Those must be the monsters!" she whispered, changing her pace from a walk to a brisk jog towards the noises. She hid herself behind a tree, peeking over the bark to see what was before her. It was a lone woman. Lying in front of her were 6 dead cyclopses, which were being eaten by some creatures she had never seen or heard of before. 'That must be her magic. She must be here to help!' Dradali thought, a wave of relief consuming her. She began to walk towards the woman, waving her arms around to get her attention. The woman turned, brandishing what appeared to be a frying pan in her hand. "Helloooooo there! You must be here to help drive out the monsters! My name is Dradali! What's up with the frying fan? Is that supposed to be a weapon? That's cool!" she rambled, smiling brightly at the woman before her, who seemed to be returning her smile with a blank stare. Little did she know, this strange woman was not here to help.

She came and went, almost seeing my shadowed form, but didn't, so they weren't looking to specifically see anything in particular, and hadn't seen me. As she turned around to the sound of rancorous eating noises, I followed, not out of concern, but of curiosity. I took to the forest path, hiding among trees alongside her path. The trees themselves weren't special, though decayed and writhing. I followed this perhaps hunter for a moment, before a set of grunts caught my ear, deeper inside the forest. I turned my course, and vanished farther into the trees. I sped through the forest at the fastest I could, though the most noise I created was a whistling noise, as though wind followed me. I ran for a few moments before finding a group of Cyclops, grunting in their strange language that I didn't care to hear. They were surrounded by cooked human corpses, and my hunger made itself known to me, before I went to work. I used my shadow form to climb up to the top of one of the Cyclops, and I stood astride his head, balancing lightly upon his shoulder in my three dimensional shadow form. I whispered "Claw of the Shadow Dragon" , and jabbing my hand into its neck, burrowing my hand into the soft flesh on the interior of his neck. I dug for a bit, before feeling the small tubes inside his neck, which at this point it was flailing about, so it was a bit difficult to grab at them, sure. I did though, and ripped his arteries open, before jumping back into the shadows, watching this cyclops flail around, bleeding. A couple of the other Cyclops stumbled past me through the trees towards the west, a bit north of the path I was following the other little human on. However, one Cyclops swung its club at its friend, and cleanly took its head off, leaving one less cyclops for me to deal with. The other Cyclops screamed a battle cry, which I stumbled on, still in my 3D shadow mode, covering my ears. It noted my presence before I fell back into the shadows, and ran towards the friend-killer cyclops, still making little noise as both the running trio, and the smartest (yet most idiotic) cyclops of the group that stayed fell trees with thunderous tumult. I made my way up to the second Cyclops, the Friend-killer, and I punched its eye in, to which it roared, hurting my ear, and I dropped back down as the Genius/Idiot came in and punched his friend in the face, knocking it into a tree, knocking it out, and possibly killing it. I then climbed up the other being's leg, and landed on its chest, where I pushed my hand through its soft, flabby muscles. I opened a hole as big as my body in the cyclops, and pushed inside. I fractured a rib into the lung of this beast, and shredded its heart. I jumped out, and was almost grabbed by the dying beast. I looked around , at these three dying/dead beasts, and I leaped off after the other three after I was content with my work. It took me a moment to find these other three, and by a moment, I mean 4 minutes of continuous running. I came across them hiding just inside the trees for a moment, obscured by their trunks and branches. I saw the little hunter talking to someone with a cooking utensil, and oblivious, or oblivious to my knowledge, to the presence of these beasts. I watched as these three hopped out of their bushels, and rushed the three to the best of their ability, while I watched, in my very visible, 3D Shadow mode, from the top of the tree from which I was watching it all unfurl, testing their abilities.

    Strawberry

Emerging from the forest as the source of the sound that the robot heard was a girl, who apparently had a habit of talking a lot, or at least rambling on and on. Strawberry, however, did hear the part about driving out the monsters, which she knew to mean that this girl was apart of the hunters that she heard of. But... The hunters were an all male group? She was sure of this through briefing. So, how could this girl be apart of the hunters which was a group of three male monster hunters not belonging to... guilds...

    Then it hit her.

As much as the dark guilds knew about these monsters invading the borders, so did the Magic Council. This girl in front of Strawberry, whom she was sure had a magic presence as the robot could feel mana coming from her, was from a legal or independent guild. Either or, but regardless this was a bad situation. But, should push come to shove, this girl's mana strength was less than Strawberry's. The robot maid would be able to handle herself against her.

Feeling another magic presence nearby, Strawberry began looking around to try to find the location. The Grim Heresy servant came across a shadow, standing upon the tree, looking down at them. Strawberry didn't know its allegiance, but-

    CRACK

The sound of metal against tree sounded off through the forest as Strawberry's body was hit not only into a tree, but through it. One cyclops charged after the body that could no longer be seen, as it was launched that far away. The other two roared, rushing the new appearance, but they were stopped in their tracks. A total of four arms each grabbed a single leg of either cyclops, making them topple to the ground. The arms were made entirely out of lava, as the Ash Wights from before reemerged from the ground. The legs they grabbed had now melted almost entirely, and they were working on climing atop either one, melting through their torsos and began once again eating the bodies of the cyclops. The screams of agony from the cyclops soon died out, along with their personal flame of life.

Deeper into the forest, Strawberry, armed with a frying pan, was combatting a cyclops which was armed with nothing. The robot maid fought it with sheer veracity, taking its head on charges with a head on charge of her own, only armed with what appeared to be a useless cooking utensil and a crazed smile. Making used of a missed overhead smash, Strawberry climbed atop the monster's shoulders using its arms as a bridge of sorts. She grabbed her frying pan, and jabbed the handle of it into its single eye, causing it to roar and start literally blindly raging. The maid then hopped off of the cyclops, starting to run back to the location that she was just in.

"What's the point of fighting something that can't fight you back? Ugh... I just wish that smack hurt just a little bit more..."

She muttered to herself, then waved her hands to the Ash Wights. The monsters began walking alongside the maid, whom was now surrounded by a neon red smoke. This smoke slowly but surely corrupted every area her feet touched, turning it into flesh or bone instead of grass and dirt. That didn't concern her, however, what did was the hunter group. That's who she was tasked to defeat, not these two other mages.

    Dradali Glacies
Fairy Tail ♥ D Rank ♥ Queen of Ice
Dradali watched in awe as the cyclopses that had just attempted to attack were destroyed quickly and easily by the woman who was just standing before her. “Wow! That was so cool!” Dradali cheered, watching as the woman got up and waved at the monsters she seemed to have summoned with her magic. Her celebration was cut short as a loud hissing noise echoed from behind her. She turned around to see a giant, two headed snake slithering quickly towards her. “Ice Dragon Stilts!” she yelled, reacting just as quickly to the monster’s swift advance. She was propelled high into the air by the pillars of ice that protruded quickly from beneath her feet. As she made her decent back down toward the snake beast, she made haste to prepare her next spell. “Ice Dragon Lance!”  Ice began to consume her arm, causing a large lance to form itself around her arm. She landed on the beast’s left head first, plunging her lance into its neck. The monster screamed in agony, attempting to shake Dradali off. She kept her footing and jumped to the other head, plunging her lance into its left eye. In its rage, the snake whipped its large tail towards Dradali, knocking her off. “Agh!” she cried, hitting the ground hard. She looked up quickly before the snake could advance any further. She reached her right arm forward, her lance managing to sink its way into the snake’s flesh once again. She screamed loudly as she repeatedly stabbed the snake in the chest, making sure it did not come charging again. A gurgling noise came from its mouth before it collapsed, not making another noise. Her screaming must have echoed throughout the entire area, causing 4 more snakes to advance towards her. “Aw man… Look what your big mouth has gotten you into this time, Dradali” she mumbled before getting up, raising her lance, prepared to take down these snakes.

The ice mage ran forward, stabbing her lance into the first snake, then grabbing the top of its head and jumping onto it as it attempted to bite with its venomous fangs. With her lance still caught in the snake’s neck, she began to slowly sever the snake’s heads off. Even as the heads were separated from the long serpent body, they continued writhing on the ground. She made 2 quick stabs to each head before advancing to the next snake. Both heads lurched forward, attempting to ensnare Dradali in their deadly fangs. She jumped backwards, before shoving her lance up through the bottom of the left head’s jaw. It roared, and threw its head back, causing Dradali to go back with it. She took this opportunity to remove her lance from the left head and make a jump for the right one. She pierced her lance through the base of the snake’s neck, then proceeded to stab upwards towards the mouth. Her lance went through its throat and out of its mouth, causing the snake to not only choke on the lance, but its own blood. As the snake went limp, Dradali removed her blood-stained lance. The last two snakes came together, their hissing noises almost deafening. The first snake raised its tail, preparing to take a swing at Dradali. She smirked and ran towards the second snake. The first snake stupidly hit its friend, causing it to scream. It turned on its former fighting partner, biting it mercilessly. Dradali joined in on the flight, lining her lance up, then making a stab through 3 snake heads, 2 of the first snake’s and one of the second’s. The first snake went limp while the second roared angrily. Dradali quickly attempted to remove her icy weapon, but it seemed to be stuck. “Shit” she mumbled, using her leg to push off of the dead snake. The other snake, with one head remaining, took this opportunity to lash its tail at her. She used all of her strength to remove the lance, then made a quick roll away from the beast, just barely avoiding the attack. She ran towards the last snake, making one last stab between it’s eyes. The snake fell limp beneath her feet. She removed her lance and stared at the dead beats before her, her face splattered with their blood.

(I'm using my freshly graded magic to help continue the story. Cheers guys!)

From my tree-top perch, I noticed several things: One, the unknown person beside the unknown person with the frying pan (Or who was next to Frying pan girl), 2, the frying pan girl could handle herself, and three, more effing snakes were coming up from the southwest, presumably to try and eat us or something. I relinquished the shadow form that protected my body from harm thus far, revealing my outfit to the world: A crimson shirt made from leather, a dark grey denim over-jacket, a black leather mini-skirt over the currently grey colored Leggings of the Azure Sky, with knee high stiletto boots. I took a deep breath in before lunging off the tree like a madwoman, and flung myself toward the two headed snakes. I pushed myself back down onto the dirt, and as I landed, I immediately activated the Bird of Hermes mode, saying softly: "Release Restraint Level 0." and sighing out multi-colored fog before continuing: "I am... the Bird of Hermes, eating my own wing, to keep... myself tame..." I closed my eyes before rushing in, and used the blood around my body to create the spear Gae Bulg, before immediately ducking to the side of the snake as it breathed out a noxious cloud, trying to permeate my area of being, or at least, the area that once was the area of where I was. I threw the spear into the side of the head of the first snake, impaling the first and second heads, before I ripped the spear out, leaving a fountain of blood spraying out into the air. It thrashed before falling to the ground, and I immediately thought to myself "The dead shall dance, no?" and lashing out with a tendril, one of three. I pierced the scaly flesh, and righted the corpse, taunting the primal beasts. "Hello~! Having fun yet, are we? I sure am, not sure about your little friend here!" I shouted brutally at the snakes before lunging the snake into the fray of the snakes. This was little more then a distraction, 'cause as they tore apart the first snake with ease, I threw Gae Bulg through the corresponding heads, leaving 4 dead, multi-headed snakes under my command, not including my first puppet (5 snakes of ten dead.) I made my dance of death heed the 6th snake, but I got smacked by a tail out of no where, which made me cough a bit, but nothing compared to the normal attacks they permeate throughout our little danse macabre.
I danced with Gae Bulg, repeating the process on the last 4 snakes beyond the 10th, and made myself several dancing snake puppets, to which the snake was cowed by. I made an example of this one, to no one in particular, and planted Gae Bulg, point stretching up into the sky. I danced in front of my snake puppets, luring out the massive beast, before dancing back behind my spear as it tried to bite me, landing the point inside the first brain, before it recoiled, wrenching the spear from the ground. I released my corpse puppets for a moment, and used each tendril to take command of the semi-alive, semi-dead head, and forced the haad to bite into the other, before releasing the head, rigor mortis setting in with the fangs implanted inside the neck of the other one, while I reached out with my Tendrils, and tore the head in half, killing the last of the snake group. I re-tethered the snake puppets I controlled prior, and walked back to the Ice user, blood tendrils sticking out of my shoulders and giant snakes controlled behind me. I curtsy, and my snakes bow, to the unknown wizard in front of me, and I say: "Hello, miss. M'name is Aera Tylidae, and these are my puppets. I don't mean to be upfront, but I must go check in with the other person. I will gather us up again, and I will have you both introduce yourselves. Ta ta for now." I walked away from the unknown mage, and made to look out through the trees to find the path to take, and walked through the dense foliage to find another couple cracked trees, and I climbed into the tree above me, waited for the secondary mage.
