Having sustained a notable amount of damage on his last job, Sigurd had realized that he still might not have been strong enough to complete the very same jobs that his heroes, the legal mages, were sent on. As such, Sigurd figured he needed to train his magic, get better gear, or simply practice his fighting style. Pursuing the second of these options, the young mage was visiting a blacksmith to see about getting some better armaments. Of course, as not to give away his persona, he was dressed in his Darknight garb. Discussing the prices, however, Sigurd realized that better armor and weapons were quite pricey, and definitely not within his budget. Though the plan was for Sigurd to simply make his way back to his apartment in Oak Town after his brief soiree in Ace of Spades, a sandstorm had kicked up, and night was falling, and given that Sigurd didn't have very many good ways of safe and fast transportation, he sought shelter in a nearby cave. Once he was safely inside, however, he noticed that there was evidence of others in the cave. It seemed to be rather large, and given that he was armed and in disguise, there was no harm in exploring the cave, so it seemed.

Sigurd had been walking through the tunnel for about 10 minutes when he heard the crackle of fire, and saw a larger room within the cave. Two shady looking characters were gathered around the fire. Around their backs were bows and quivers, and they wore garb which aimed, seemingly, to hide their faces. They seemed to be bandits, discussing a treasure inside the cave. Sigurd remained hidden while listening in on their conversation.

"Ay, so it's pretty crazy, huh? Gold Rodger's treasure really is here."

"Yea man, I heard on the communication lacrima that the boss found the treasure of the Pirate King himself," said the smaller archer, which Sigurd now recognized as a woman.

"So, do you really think it's true? That he stole from the Gods themselves?"

"Ha, you really believe in that superstitious crap? Even if there are some sort of crazy god-like weapons in that tomb, do you think the boss would let us get our grubby hands on them?"

The male bandit started walking away from the fire, grabbing a waterskin and taking a drink, "I guess you have a point. God, being on guard duty is so boring, aye Annelise?" He looked around to see that his company was gone, "Annelise?" he called out, swiveling around to meet an armored warrior before being struck on the head and passing out.

Sigurd walked through dark passageways with care and caution, on the look out for any more bandits as he made his way deeper and deeper into the final chamber, which he presumed must have held the treasure of the Pirate King Gold Rodger. The warrior had heard of the Pirate King in stories of his childhood and wondered if the man really did exist. More importantly, if Gold Rodger's treasure really was here, perhaps there is something among the rubble that Sigurd could have made use of in battle... a magic item, or weapon, or armor, or something. Maybe there were maps to more treasure? Sigurd had never expected that he had such a side. He imagined himself as the pirate king. A swashbuckling sea-faring warrior seeking treasure and romance.

    Pirate Fantasy:

Well, ultimately the hero life was probably more suited to Sigurd's tastes, however it would be fun to be a pirate. Perhaps in some alternate universe, there existed Darkbeard, Pirate Hero. He was taken out of this daydreaming as he finally reached the end of the hallway leading up into the final tomb.

In the main tomb there was very little of value, surprisingly. It was a dark and damp cave, like the rest of the hideout, but in the middle was a casket, presumably containing the body of the so-called "Pirate King." Sigurd approached the casket, but was ambushed by someone wielding a long pole arm. The young man narrowly avoided impalement, and spun around to meet his foe in battle.

"I was waiting here for my comrades, so we could see what was in the casket together,"
said the man, raising his weapon, "You... are not my comrade."

Sigurd drew his blade to prepare for a fight with the other man, who he now assumed to be the boss of the bandits who were raiding the tomb, "I'm aware. I believe I dispatched a few by the entrance of the cavern. Before we settle this with steel, I'd like to request a word."

Without letting down his guard, the bandit leader raised an eyebrow.

"Why do you want whatever is in that coffin?"

He smirked, "I want to see how much I can sell it for."

"And what will you put that money towards?"

    "Equipment"

    "For?"

    "Heists, robberies, and getting drunk."

Sigurd raised his blade, "Then I will apprehend you, villain."

The two blades clashed as the men fought and argued. The bandit and Sigurd were evenly matched, wielding unbalanced and heavy weapons, with neither one being very well trained in traditional combat. However, both men seemed determined to win through virtue of their strength and desire. As they clashed blades, somehow, they found the breath to exchange quips.

"Fancy yourself some kind of superhero, huh? Think you're above the rest of us or something? What do you call yourself anyways, huh?" asked the man, putting dents and scratches in Sigurd's low-quality armor, sneering as he spoke. A thrashing blow from the pole arm wielding man sent the knight careening several steps back, but he managed to regain his footing, and turned his skull-decorated visage in the most intimidating manner as possible. Although his morals were dubious, the warrior in Sigurd respected this man's strength and dedication to his goal.

He gave a chuckle at the thought of the two getting along, "You may call me Darknight," he responded, rushing his sword forward to meet with the man's chain mail, lightly piercing him, and forcing the opponent to take a few steps back.

The bandit clutched his chest, but the wound began to heal. His spear had some kind of magic enchantment attached to it. He smirked at Sigurd, "Well, Darknight, call me Simon, the Owl."

"Your camaraderie is wasted on such things you know, Owl. You and your partners could make a good team, perhaps as treasure hunters, or even in a legally recognized job. You could join a guild and be a team. Why have you chosen to be low-life bandits?" asked Sigurd. He was legitimately curious. These three seemed to be capable fighters, and also seemed to have some chemistry as a team. It didn't make much sense to the mage as to why the three would choose such an unsavory lifestyle.

The bandit let out a laugh, "That's none of your business, why don't we just settle this thing now, huh? I'm tired of wasting time," he said, making a swift maneuver and thrusting his pole arm at Sigurd.

"I agree," said the dark knight, matching blows with his opponent. The force was so great that both blades shattered under the pressure. Both of the warriors were stunned for a moment, but the bandit leader launched a fist at Sigurd unexpectedly. The mage narrowly dodged, and launched his own fisticuff attack, which caused Simon to stagger back.

"Boss!" said the other two in unison, rushing to his aid.

Said boss grimaced as he drew his back up weapon, a knife, "You guys! I told you to let me finish this myself."

Annelise shook her head "No, boss, we're fighting with you, we can't let you lose to this guy because you were stubborn.

Sigurd knew that 3 against 1 would be nearly impossible for him to win without any weapons to defend himself with. For this reason, he let the gates of his magic flow open. The technique he had read about, Limit Break, would now be put to the test.

"Limit Break!" said Sigurd, pointing to the ground in front of him, "Appear, Heroes Wall and Shinebright! The bond of heroes allows us to be the victor in this fight!" he shouted, as his enormous tank-girl and speedster appeared in front of him, emerging from the magic circles that he had created. If the bandits had been sensitive to magic, they could have felt the power oozing from him, as he expended large quantities of magic to control two summons at once. The physical strain of doing so caused him to become completely immobile, but the combat advantages which having two super-humans at his command gave him were well worth the physical strain.

All three of the bandits took steps back in astonishment.

"Wall, sweetie, let's take care of these nobodies for the chief, alright?" sneered the lightning warrior. Wall didn't care for being called sweetie, and grunted with disapproval at Shinebright before nodding in agreement.

Simon took a fighting stance, "So, you're really a superhero huh? That's some magic you've got there... Thought I won't go down without a fight!" he exclaimed, charging towards his opponent.

Shinebright, the hero known for his speedy tongue and speedy feet, rushed around the assailant, and dealt a swift kick to both of his other opponents. Wall easily tackled Simon to the ground using her superior strength, causing notable crushing damage to the man and his defenses due to her heavy armor. Meanwhile, Shinebright had activated his superpower, and his hands were charged with electricity. He grabbed onto Berthold while lifting his legs, and delivering a powerful donkey kick to Annelise, shocking the former into submission, while knocking out the latter. Wall was on her hands and knees, pinning the Owl. Looking into the Owl's eyes, Sigurd saw pain. He could tell that seeing his teammates being hurt was hurting the man himself. How such a compassionate man could have fallen into such a lifestyle, it baffled him. Noting this, Sigurd dismissed both his summons, and they evaporated into light, returning to the world of the comic books they came from.

Sigurd waited for Simon to come to his senses, and the two men stood opposite each other. "Rise, and fight me honorably."

The two men looked at each other, and then charged forward, preparing to find out who would be the stronger man.

When Simon awoke, he was on the shore, by the cave entrance which he had ventured through in order to find the treasure of Gold Rodger...

He realized just what happened. The Owl checked around him. Sure enough, his friends were with him. That man, Darknight, had spared their lives, brought them to safety... and... he touched his arm to find bandages, and noticed a paper bag near the party. Looking inside ,he found three sandwiches wrapped in paper. He sat down, unwrapped one, and took a bite. Fresh tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, turkey, and some sort of aioli hit his tongue. It was a delicious sandwich.

Darknight... was a strange man. Perhaps one day they would cross paths again. And perhaps next time their situation could b different. Perhaps he had a point.

Simon heard his partners stirring behind him. Looking at the sunrise, he decided.

It was time for a change.
