    Nightmare Lillith with Lumindis [Job/Private]

    Link to job description

Grema, personally, did not think their little ‘team’ would last. But the gods must be laughing at her, because the magitech mage was so, so, so wrong. Though maybe the gods were laughing because this was their doing. After all, it was either the luckiest (or unlucky depending on how one looked at it) coincidences, fate, or a deity messing with them for the holder mages to find themselves on another job together.

It’s not that Grema hated the other mages, on the contrary after some time away from them the engineer could confirm that she at the very least did not hate them. They were still too beautiful for her to like, but Liam and Ignis were too nice and Aliarey was too much like Grema in personality to hate. Anyways, she didn’t leave them with any large negative feelings but did expect them to never, or very rarely, turn up in her life again.

But here they were, all turning up in the same town at the same time. They all had different reactions to this, but Grema personally just felt a sense of middle-ground apathy, mixed with disbelief and vague acceptance to the whole situation which came out as the most deadpan look she was possible of making with only half of a working face.

The Black Rose mage didn’t know the reasons they were in the area, but she had just gotten back from raiding an old mine for some ore she can use for her magitech. She was decked out in her new pirate outfit she got in a job and her new assistant, M.A.I, along with new powers under her belt. She had grown stronger, and by the looks of it so had they.

So here they were, standing in a circle staring at each other like a bunch of idiots. Grema resented that fact even within her own head so she broke the silence with “Wanna do a job?” and left it at that.

The world was supposedly a large place. One could meet some random person one day and never see them again as the pathways of fate took each person on their own given path. Every once in while though a rare occurrence takes place where a person's pathway crosses with another one long forgotten, leaving both parties to be surprised. A lot of the time it happens with unpleasant individuals that makes one question their own luck, but sometimes the appearance of a contact once lost can be good. Although, Aliarey was not certain where her current example of pathway crossing stood. To end up in the same area with one of her past job associates was one thing, but both of them? Something out there had a sense of humor. She did not dislike either of them per se but her first experience with them was not a memory that she would want to stick in a scrapbook.

Aliarey had once again acquired the curse of laziness. Ever since the three had made it out of that trap of a job she had been taking it easy. Job taking was minimal and even if she looked like she was a bit stronger she could probably be categorized as a bit rusty. Grema and Liam seemed different though. When they all stood together she could sense that the magical power of the two had increased since the last time she worked with them. A sarcastic thought of how lovely that was went through the blonde's mind. If she did not start working on her skills soon they would surely pass her. Not that that was a bad thing as a whole, but that did mean more competition on the better paying jobs, and Aliarey quite enjoyed high paying jobs.

The three stood in their little mini circle once the reactions of having run into each other once again had passed. Aliarey's was one of disbelief with a mix of self pity. Why did she have to suffer so? The mere presence of those two surely meant some form of doom would fall upon the land! Or rather, just her. Her job armor was not currently being worn and instead she was in a short black and white sleeveless dress with a thin white jacket tossed over her shoulders. Black thigh high stockings covered her legs and ended with a pair of small white shoes. It made her look a little more girly, especially with her long hair flowing past her shoulders rather than being up in a ponytail, but she did not mind. Her armor was only worn when she went out for jobs and that day she hadn't planned on taking any.

Arms crossed across her chest, the requip mage stood there awkwardly in silence. What was she supposed to say? She was more experienced with her failed attempts of haggling shops than small talk. It was then the hunchback of the group suggested on taking a job. Aliarey nearly keeled over at the words due to how the last one they all took turned out. "Hey now! The last one you guys brought me in on nearly got me killed!" A bit of an exaggeration, of course. She had been no more injured than they and the bandits that had ambushed them as well as the forest of Sukai took much more damage. That would not stop Aliarey making how that turned out their fault though.

Post by Grema Fen on 26th July 2017, 9:26 pm

“Technically speaking, I’m the one who got the closest to death last time.” Probably, Grema hadn’t been keeping track of her job partners situation all that much, but it sure had felt like she had been the most roughed up. “And it comes with being combat mages. What, you scared chick?” The woman snarked, bringing up an old nickname. She didn’t mean any real harm in her own Grema fashion, but being snarky was her own way of dealing with weirdness, with the occasional punning.

The mechanic gave the other woman a long look. It seemed she was in civilian clothes, so maybe she wasn't actually ready for a job. ‘No, wait, she’s a requip mage. This gal’s almost always ready for action, unless shes out of magic or too injured.’ And Aliarey, just by how she presented herself, was neither. So there was really no reason not to do a job together. Plus wasn’t that how mages got to know each other, outside of being in the same guild? The other Black Rose’s kept on bugging Grema to ‘network’, which was their way of being sneaky and trying to convince their local magitech expert to make friends. Telling them that she went on a job with the same person twice would stop their nattering somewhat.

Conclusions made, Grema assumed the other holder mage’s feather were ruffled enough to come along and headed toward the nearest Rune Knight outpost which was conveniently at the edge of the town square they had met up at. She was expecting the gun-wielder to follow as she approached the man minding the desk, showed off her guild tattoo, and asked if there were any jobs in the area. The cyborg briefly wondered if Aliaery had difficulties doing this as a guildless mage, and pondered that as the man shuffled around his work area.

He appeared to hesitate, then steel himself as he put a wanted poster in her outstretched hand. Grema looked at it and blinked. Then starred. “Why are you sending us to chase after a little girl.” The magitech mage asks him in a dry tone with a bit of steel underneath it.

The man took a deep breath. “As you may read below this ‘little girl’, Lillith, is a wanted serial killer. She’s speculated to be around the age of seven but is assumed to be at least an A rank mage in strength. She had recently killed an entire Dark Guild and is indiscriminately killing dark mages as we speak. Her motives are unknown, but dark or not the Magic Council and Rune Knights cannot stand for this kind of slaughter. The Council will allow you to kill her, but bringing her in alive earns you a better reward. Her last known location is the Haunted Village, a remote place so you won't be getting much help.” The Knight pauses at the thoughtful but wary look on Grema’s face. “This is just the most recent and urgent option. There are others and I can pull them out if you want.” The man offered.

Grema honestly sure. On one hand, the reward was rather large, which would be nice. O the other this would be the most dangerous job she would be taking yet. Also, she might have to resort killing a kid, serial killer or no. “What do you think?” The engineer asked in the end, looking over her shoulder and expecting Aliarey to be there.

"What?! I'm not scared, I just like the side of the living!" Aliarey could not believe Grema had gone back to using the old chick nickname and was actually hoping she had forgotten about its usage. She herself did not miss it and it triggered her nerves every time. It wasn't even fair! The gun mage was bad at giving out nicknames of her own and besides obvious cruel ones she had no idea what to call the hunchback that would both cause a reaction and not have her try and murder her after using it.

Grema would be right to assume she could easily switch outfits to be ready for a job, but her actual mentality was another issue. Luckily, all it took was a verbal jab to get Aliarey going and ready to prove the other holder mage wrong. As soon as the mage donning the pirate garb walked away, likely to find out about a job, Aliarey turned towards Liam who had declined the invitation. Something about having to deal with guild affairs that went above her level of comprehension since she was guildless and kind of tuned out the whole explanation since she did not care for the small details. It would just be Grema and herself then. Great. The two would surely work together quite well without the more childish distractions of Liam and likely Ignis. Nevertheless, Aliarey left the celestial mage and ran after Grema. "Fine, I'll do it, but don't think just because you're wearing that get up that I'm calling you captain." She said after catching up and walking side by side with the other holder mage, resting her hands behind her head as they headed towards the nearest Rune Knight outpost.

She allowed Grema to ask the knight behind the desk about jobs near the area. While she wasn't a dark mage it was still awkward having to deal with the guys as a guildless one. It was just far easier to allow one representing a legal guild to do all the fancy show off the tattoo routine. When eyes were set on her, likely expecting to show off her own tattoo, Aliarey just smiled sweetly and pointed to Grema. "We're like a team or something. Job, please!"

Soon Grema was handed a wanted poster and kneeling down slightly she peered at it from behind her shoulders. What a weird wanted request. Since when were little kids able to make such a ruckus as to get the attention of the Magic Council? Aliarey very much disliked dealing with kids in general, but one that was categorized as a serial killer? And was located in the Haunted Village? That was very creepy and spelled out a serious case of danger. Everything in her gut told her to stay the hell away from the job. Then her blue eyes got to the reward and widened. With an excited grin on her face she reached over Grema's shoulder to grab the wanted poster so she could get a better look at it. "Fifteen thousand jewels?! Oh, we're so doing this!" All sense of fear temporarily evaporated when the thought of having more money in her account crossed her mind. It was about the only thing to get her to ignore the danger details. Having to deal with the kid in a severe manner would have been something she'd frown on normally, but considering the dangers the child posed she would do it if required. Grema likely had a different mindset altogether. If memory served her right, she seemed to remember her not even liking the fact they had destroyed part of the forest of Sukai while on their last "job."

"I guess we'll just try and bring her in alive for the better reward," Aliarey commented, still staring at the poster and certainly not mentioning she only said that to bring a small amount of comfort to Grema regarding the way the child would be dealt with.

At first, the other woman looked just as uncertain, and creeped out, as Grema by the terms the job had put forward. But at the thought of money the woman had begun to sparkle and jewel symbols had practically appeared in her eyes. Grema could only stare, straight faced, in exasperation at the almost 360 of her attitude. Now that the cyborg thought of it, Aliarey had the same reaction when Grema ‘found’ their payout to their last sort of-job. At the time the magitech user had just thought the other holder mage was just happy they hadn’t wasted their time, but looking at this reaction Grema was beginning to guess it was more of a reoccurring personality trait. Well, it was another thing to add to Grema’s mental list of her ‘teammates’ quirks.

But her last words… was Aliarey trying to be… nice? Wow, that was unexpected. Grema could only stare at her job partner in surprise for a few moments, a light blush on her face before the mechanic was able to shake it off. Grema had even forgotten the other woman was despicably beautiful for a second, she had been so touched. Thankfully it didn’t last.

But in the end they were taking the job. At least this one was an actual official job with an outlined goal and reward, unlike the last one. But this one had more risks involved. Grema decided to be as prepared as she could. “Do you have any other information on this Lillith character? Reports, analysis, anything?” She questioned the Rune Knight and he dived back down into his station, the sound of rustling papers being heard made certain the man was looking for what Grema had asked for.

The two mages then stood in awkward silence as the man searched. Now that Grema thought of it the two had never had a proper conversation, not that the scientist had much experience with positive socializing outside of professional context. It is the reason her guild mates called the magitech expert socially awkward rather than grumpy, though they were probably just teasing her. But either way, the two woman had rather similar personalities, so casual communications would be tough. Grema didn’t think she’d miss the annoying cheerful duo, but it turns out they were good buffers for their grim counterparts. It was the major downside to them not being able to join this job, along with the lack of extra marital help.

But socially awkward or not, Grema took a shot. “So, uh, we're a team now huh? Should we make a team name or something?” That shot might have missed, but thankfully before the mage could become too embarrassed the Knights head popped back up and gave Grema a few sheets of papers. Less than what she hoped for, but about what she had expected.

“M.A.I, scan and input these documents into my database along with the information on the wanted poster.” Grema instructed her A.I and made her mechanical eye stare at the pages while Mai scanned them to begin to input the information. Once that was done she switched to another sheet of paper and sighed. “This will take a minute, but this information might aid us in this job so give us a moment.” Noticing the Rune Knight’s confused look at her talking to thin air Grema remembered that she hadn’t introduced Mai to anyone yet and Aliarey might be confused. “Oh yah, chick this is my assistant. She’s an mechanical artificial intelligence that I created to aid me. Introduce yourself.” Grema waved her arm around, eye still on the documents.

“Certainly Miss Fen! Hello, I am the Magical Artificial Intelligence, M.A.I. Or you can call me Mai as well! It’s a pleasure to meet you Miss Aliarey Casady, also known as chick, blondie, blond bimbo, and forest destroyer! To avoid any confusion, I am a being built into my creator’s magitech, which is why I do not have a physical form for you to see. A way of explaining it is if I was a spirit possessing a mages weapon if that aids in your understanding! I hope I can be of use to you as well!” A cheery feminine voice comes from Grema’s magitech arm, the keyboard lighting up in various colours as Mai talks. Huh, Grema totally forgot not many locals would get what a computerized artificial intelligence is. The engineer was damn proud of her creation, it made building things and inputting new information into her database so much easier. But there was still a few glitches to smooth out, such as not mentioning the nicknames its creator may or may not have said about the other female.

After another minute of so, Grema had finished scanning the sheets and gave them back to the guard. The information should be organized in her database by the time they arrived at haunted village. “Shall we go?” Grema suggested to the other mage.

Thankfully for Aliarey that she kept her eyes focused on the wanted poster in front of her face in order to avoid the resulted reaction from the words she had given a moment before. There were two reactions she could think of; one being where Grema actually liked her being nice and the other where her attempts at being a decent human being would have been mocked. Either way, the fact she had taken into consideration Grema's stance on the child left her in a state of awkwardness that she was not used to feeling. The silence did not help matters, but that was eventually broken as her job partner requested for more details on what they would be dealing with. While the two had some similarities they were also very different in some aspects, Grema wanting to be more prepared for instance. Aliarey was more of the wing it type and seemed to never learn to think about all the details unless she was in real danger. A good thing it was that she was not going alone.

The two stood in silence as the man behind the desk went to go get the requested information. Having nothing else to do, Aliarey started to fold up the wanted poster until it was in the shape of a paper airplane. It was pretty much the only work of art she was capable of doing correctly and worked as an annoying long ranged poke. She tossed her paper creation over the desk and allowed its pointed front to smack on the knight's head as he looked for the information. "Hey! Hurry up down there!" Patience was not a strong personality trait for the woman, especially when drowning in awkward silence. While she was not as socially awkward as her teammate she was still not all that great at small talk.

It was then that her teammate brought up the fact that since they were a team they should probably have a name as well to go with it. "Uh..." The realization made her speechless. How could such an important fact be overlooked so easily? Making up nicknames was hard enough but to make up a team name that did not sound completely ridiculous? That was on a whole different level of challenge. There was not much time to think about it however as the knight was back up with a very small pile of papers and even the wanted poster, which was now unfolded. At the mention of something called M.A.I., Alairey raised a brow and looked at the pirate garbed hunchback quizzically. Was that a new nickname? Did Grema really think she knew how to scan anything of the sort? It got even more confusing when the gun mage realized Grema was not talking about her. Luckily an explanation soon came to relieve all of the built in confusion. The chick comment went ignored as she was far more interested in the talking arm...thingy. She reached out to lightly tap the magitech arm, fascinated by the talking and colorful lights. "Oooo, I want one!"

Aliarey pulled back her hand when it suddenly dawned on her what Mai had called her. Blonde bimbo? Forest Destroyer? Chick? "Wait a minute, don't you have to put that type of information into it?" Just how many humiliating nicknames did Grema have prepared?

Nevertheless, the two were prepared and it was time to go. That did not stop Aliarey from thinking up random team names during the trip though. "Oh, remember when you brought up team names? How about Cyborg Reapers! Since you're a cyborg or something. Then again I'm not so that wouldn't work. How about The Super Amazing Bombers?! We're both kind of like bombers and if we're making a name we might as well make it sound cool. Oh! The Eccentric Ass Kicking Demolition Expert Duo! If we ever run into Liam again we can just add 'and Pretty Boy' at the end." One bad team name right after another to further explain why she never bothered giving nicknames to other people.

Grema paused at the other woman’s demand. She wanted her own A.I? Well, she did use technological equipment just like Grema, though of lower quality and complexity, so maybe have an assistant like M.A.I would help her? But then the engineer remembered how much of a pain it was to create the A.I in the first place. I didn’t take a terribly long time, it's just that Grema almost died because she tends to get obsessive over things, and when that happens she forgets to eat or sleep. Thankfully she was still staying her guilds inn at that time so people had occasionally checked up on her. They were angry when they found the mechanic near dead from dehydration, but Grema had finished her project in time so she didn’t really see the harm. There was also the fact artificial intelligence is dangerous in the wrong hands, so it was probably best not to spread it around.

“No way. Get one of those pet thingies, what are they called again? Starts with a d… Oh, a doug! No, dog. Get one of those, their safer I think.” Grema informs the other mage after her struggles with the common pet’s name. What? In Bosco, the only organic creature other than humans were the occasional live experiments. If Grema hadn’t eaten the meat of it or studied it in school, which was thankfully the case for many monsters, she didn’t know it. Dog’s were neither monsters or something taught about in a Bosco school, so Grema only came to know about their popular existence when she came to Fiore.

“And no, M.A.I is her own autonomous being capable of intelligent thought so she just listens into things and makes up her own things.” “But ma’am I had only repeated what you-“ “Makes up her own things!”

During the conversation, the two women had begun to walk toward the local train station to catch a ride halfway to their destination. But at the spew of ridiculous names, Grema had stopped walking and just stared incredulously at Aliarey. “You know what, I’m just gonna stop you there. Good try though.” The cyborg said not unkindly after all the other woman had been nice to her. “But if you do ever get a pet call me first so I can spare it the pain of you naming it.” But Grema being nice wasn’t something that came naturally. Anyways, she had to do some quick thinking to get a good name before the gunslinger decided one of her names was best.

Then it came to her. “How about Ligral, assuming Liam is coming back? It’s an abbreviation of all of our names then mashed together.” She offered hesitantly as they once again made their way to the train station.

A huge wave of disappointment made its way through the gun mage as the idea of getting her own A.I. was shot down with barely any sort of consideration, at least none that she could tell. She figured it would of taken more than a few seconds before coming to a straight forward no. 'Jeez, it was just my way of saying it was neat', Aliarey said inwardly inside her own mind but made no further comment. It wasn't as if she actually asked for one to be made for her, not yet anyway. If she was going to have some mechanical A.I. it was going to have to do way more than just scan things. It would probably have to be able to shoot things, blow things up, and probably walk on its own. She did lack a magitech arm to contain such a technological being after all and she was not going to cut off her own to make room for one. Then again she could have it put into the eye visor that she normally kept stored away somewhere in that magical storage dimension that somehow held all of her stuff. Well, that would just be something she'd have to bug her now official teammate later on. At the mention of the doug, no make that dog, the long blonde haired woman could only deepen her frown. Seriously? Just how out of touch with family pets was she? Not to mention thinking a reckless gunslinger that could toss out grenades would be a great living pet owner in general. "Not likely," Aliarey replied with a grimace on her face, thinking of some poor puppy flying through the air after being near an explosion. Yeah, safer for Aliarey but not much for the pet.

"So she just came up with the idea of me being a 'Blonde Bimbo' all on her own?" She asked suspiciously as her arms crossed over her chest. Aliarey wasn't a complete and total idiot, and the way Grema interrupted MAI kind of proved her suspicions on the matter. How mean! The job had not even started yet and already she was getting triggered. One day she'd have colorful nicknames to call the tech savvy hunchback, hopefully ones not as bad as her suggested team names. For now, she let the issue slide so long as she wasn't called that to her face during their job.

As the two walked to the train station she noticed her job associate had stopped and so she herself stopped as well and turned around just as Grema spoke. It seemed her team name suggestions were not as good as she had thought. She had smiled at first when she was given the golden phrase of "good try", but it quickly turned upside down when it turned into what she thought was an insult towards her naming abilities. They weren't that bad. Sure they took all of three seconds to come up with but she thought they sounded interesting. Sort of. Maybe. Possibly. Yeah, even she had to come to the conclusion they needed some work. The suggestion Grema gave in comparison was a lot simpler than hers and admittedly not as bad. Good thing there was someone in the group that had ideas better than hers. It still lacked a bit of an explosive touch but it would do. "Not as catchy as The Eccentric Ass Kicking Demolition Expert Duo and Pretty Boy, but I guess it works," Aliarey replied, her smile returned to signify she liked the name. In truth she did not mind what they were called and had little motivation to fight over names, although she would have to wonder why her abbreviation came last. It was doubtful it was a save the best for last sort of thing, but it was probably best not to overthink it. There was a job to do and some jewels to earn!

Her feet started to move again, taking her towards the train station but in a backwards motion since she did not turn back around to face their destination. "But just so you know, Sir Dynamite Jewel Shooter would be an awesome dog name."

Post by Grema Fen on 1st August 2017, 3:25 pm

Ya, Aliarey didn’t really seem like the type that’s good at keeping pets, though Grema could be wrong. Not that the cyborg obviously knew much about pets, supposedly the lab across from her had worked on live specimens but she had never gone over to see them for herself. Did keeping a spider around to study when she was seven count? In the end, another child from the orphanage ate it, so she wasn’t too sure. “What’s makes something a ‘pet’ anyways? And why do people want to keep them? Other than a combat or support magical pet, they don’t seem to have much practical benefit.” The gun wielder was born and raised in this society, right? So she might know.

Uh, yah, Grema didn’t cover that up so well. While searching her mind for an answer M.A.I found it before her. “Miss Fen seems to use these ‘nicknames’ to show affection from what I have analyzed! I have made it my priority to research Fiorean culture and norms to further aid my creator, including providing social guidance for my socially inept master! Any aid would be much welcome Miss Casady!” Through those spew of words Grema just stared at her robotic arm in horror and wonder. Horror because how embarrassing that was, and wonder because she did not instruct or program M.A.I to do that, let alone take initiative to ask other for aid. A.I’s really were fascinating and she was a genius for creating such an advanced one!

Oh ya she should probably deny everything it sprouted. “No it isn’t! And I know plenty about Fiore and crap! And I’m not socially inept! And don’t listen to her Aliarey!” Grema spluttered out, though she didn’t order the program to stop her research.

“… Those names are way too long. Also how does that pet name even make any sense? Does it shit jewels at people?... I could build you a robotic one if you want. Actually, let me, that would be hilarious. Robotic thing shooting jewels from its butt as an attack. Ha!” The magitech mage barks out a laugh at the thought while looking through her Database on the information M.A.I was compiling on Lilith. It still wasn’t done yet but Grema was manually reading some of it to get a general idea. As they sat down in the train Grema flipped her holographic screen to face the other holder mage.

“Look’s like we might have an illusionist here.” She informs the others, a bit of information appearing on the screen about illusion magic. She then braces herself and lets out a sigh. “… Looks, as much as I hate to admit it, your probably more combat capable than I am, or at least you have more experience. Other than striving off non-mage bullies and a bit of mentoring I only got my first combat experience in the last few months. I’ve also only been in mage and magical culture for that long. Being born in the technologically based Bosco means I have little experience with just pure magic not mixed with technology. I’ve definitely never faced illusion magic before, heck I’ve only heard of it’s existence after coming to Fiore! That means you’re the magical and combat veteran here, and please tell me you’ve faced illusion magic before.” Grema asks the other woman a tad hopefully, because if not they were basically going into this blind. It might not even be illusion magic that just seems like the most likely option going from the reports. But once again, Grema had little experience in such things, which was a bit of a bruise to her pride as a genius to admit.

"Jeez, you never really had much of a childhood, did you?" Aliarey did not really know much about Grema's past and she sure as heck never wondered about it until then. The explanation of pets was usually one even children answered for themselves. A fully grown adult asking about such a simple thing was confusing but maybe it was just cultural differences. Her statement was not meant to be offensive, just an observation that her mouth had proceeded to unleash before giving the mind time to think of a different approach. "Pets for a lot of people don't really need to fulfill combat or support expectations. Heck, for most they just serve as everyday companions. People get lonely, you know? And unless they talk, pets don't tend to judge unlike people. You also have those crazy whackos out there that have to have a pet just because it's the cutest thing out there, and then there are those pets that are a status symbol. I'd say it's mostly for the companionship part though."

A fit of laughter almost escaped from the tall blonde while she listened to the interaction between Grema and MAI. A deep breath had to be taken and she even had to cover her mouth in an attempt to hold it inside. It would seem the AI within the arm required a little more tinkering if it actually managed to get away with calling her master socially inept. Oh, she would be sure to give MAI some suggestive aid later on, although how she would do that with Grema literally attached to her was a bit of a problem.

The joke made about the name she would give a dog was not one Aliarey particularly found humorous. It was a cool name! Would people actually take it the literal route and actually think it would shit out jewels? Why not have it shoot from its eyes or mouth? Some people! Names were supposed to be fun and not taken so seriously. That was how boring names like Spot just because a pet had a spot existed. "Well if it did I would be the richest person in Fiore!"

The two had then entered the train and took their seats and before things could get too silent Grema had flipped the holographic screen so she could see and then declared the possibility of the girl from the wanted poster being an illusionist. She really was the prepared type. Unfortunately as the hunchback's words continued the gun mage would have to disappoint her. She had never faced anyone using illusion magic and those she knew that used it had never really given her any advice on how to confront and deal with it. Granted, she could have bothered to ask to duel against them for practice but it was a little too late for that now. There was also Grema's admittance to being somewhat naive towards pure magic in general and that she was still learning. That explained a lot as well as the fact she was raised within Bosco, which she remembered that being mentioned on their first job together but never questioned it since the tech savvy mage had went on some long and boring explanation that put her to sleep. "Nope!" A wide grin appeared on the blonde's face as she answered Grema's hope on being experienced with illusion magic. "It's not really the most common magic around. If we really are dealing with an illusionist I guess we'll just have to not believe everything our eyes see." Still, that tended to only work on the weaker illusionists. The more advanced ones could do a a whole lot more and simple tactics like she suggested was not going to work if the young girl fell under that category. It would have to be a game of wait and see.

The whistles of the train sounded and soon started to head towards its destination.

She did? Huh, never really put much thought into her days of youth from that lens. While being a disabled ill child did mature her a lot she had moved past that stage of her life. But now that she did think of it the children in the orphanage did act a lot different from how she did, same with those at school, even the older ones. Well, whatever, Grema just matured faster than them of something.

“Companionship huh…” Grema mused as they sat down, and on her chin. “That still doesn’t make much logical sense to me, isn’t it a waste of resources to keep an extra being around? Though I guess the status symbol thing does in its own ridiculous way, even if it’s detrimental for the same reasons.” She said to her teammate, wondering about it while completely missing the point. M.A.I gives out a sigh of exasperation and disappointment all in one sound at her master's denseness but keeps quiet for now since it seemed she did not like to discuss such matters in from of her companions, which was also a bad idea to the A.I. But it would bid its time.

The train was on its way to its next destination, taking the two women with it. Aliarey’s answer was what Grema almost expected, but didn’t want. The cyborg let out a small sigh of disappointment but didn’t blame the gun wielder for her lack of information. It’s not like Grema was any better in her info base regarding this matter. On the contrary, the other holder mage still provided her with some information. “Not believing what we see huh… So does that mean countering illusions is to have a good grip on what you see and know as reality? Or is it to see the disparity in the reality the illusionist shows up and, er, break out of the magic that way? Does that mean it’s really a matter of both self-knowledge and one's willpower? Determination? Knowing it is possible, thus doing it? Odd, that’s the basis of casting magic, willpower to do the act and the knowledge and confidence that allows you to do it. Does that mean illusion magic has overall less effect on mages?” Grema rambles, flicking through her database. “That means this Lilith must be extremely powerful to trick and kill so many dark mages if she really is an illusionist at all. Though I can’t think of what else she may be. Wait, what if she can also read minds or mess with emotions?! This could be a lot harder than I thought… But doesn’t having that much magic affect her body? I’ve heard of cases of magical children dying from having Ethernano in their bodies at a young age… Curiouser and curiouser…” The scientist finally trails off, staring hard at her database screen.

Grema then realized she had been almost completely ignoring the other person in the cart, and wished she had her mask on to hide the embarrassed blush she was sporting. “Er, do you have anything to add by any chance?” The magitech user asks in all seriousness, embarrassment aside. “It would be very useful to hear anothers thoughts to expand my hypothesis, mostly one more experienced in the matters of pure magic.” Grema verbally reaches out since talking about such things was the only way she knew how. Or at least the only thing that even remotely succeeded in communicating with others in the past. Grema had even automatically reverted to a more polite and formal way of speaking, that's how used to it she was. and showed how hard she had tried, because formal and polie was usually not her thing.

It was time to queue the facepalm. Grema was just going to continue to overthink the existence of pets and anything Aliarey said would of just been used as some fodder for some sort of logical and scientific reasoning that missed the point. Being too smart did have its flaws, and the blonde was glad she did not have such a mind that had a tendency to overthink something so simple. "There are some things that just are and aren't supposed to be broken down into random bits of logic. You kind of ruin the fun that way." In the back of her mind she did wonder if Grema even knew what normal fun was. No, spending time in some boring lab for several days like a weirdo did not count. If she barely knew the purpose of pets and lacked a true childhood it was doubtful.

As Grema started asking question after question, Aliarey opened her mouth to speak but was silenced by even more questions before she could get a word in. A hand went through her long blonde hair as she just gave up and allowed the rambling to continue. Clearly the words were more of an out loud thought process than actual questions that needed answering. She then slouched in her seat and was on her way to Nap Town when there was finally a pause. Was there finally a moment for her to speak? Aliarey slowly sat up and looked at the other holder mage silently, making sure that really was all that there was to say. Her mouth opened once to test and once more just to make sure. No interruptions. Great!

"Okay, I don't remember everything you said because I stopped listening somewhere," Aliarey said, not really being mean about it but just honestly saying a fact. With all of that information thrown her way she needed a clipboard to keep up and she lacked one. "First of all, illusion magic is going to be different depending on the mage that uses it. I only said a basic idea before that covers weaker ones. I seriously doubt it's going to work as well against little Lilith here. Assuming the reports of her strength aren't overly exaggerated which could be a thing. If they are, great! If not, we are just going to have to go with the flow and hope we don't die. I suggest we run before we get to the dying part of Plan B though." Aliarey crossed her arms below her chest and got comfortable in her seat once more by leaning against the back cushion. "From the reports it seems like she's crazy and for being in a place called the Haunted Village I don't think we'll be seeing rainbows and sunshine, but I am sure you could have guessed that. The people that I know back in Talonia don't really have offensive moves in the normal sense and based on that I am going to guess we'll run into a lot of tricks and our emotions will be toyed with. Heck, she may be the type that turns us against each other." Aliarey went silent for a moment and then shrugged her shoulders as a new thought crossed her mind. "Honestly, I am not sure if she will even attack us. The reports did say she mainly went after dark mages, right? You're a legal mage and I...well I'm not in a dark guild. She's just a kid so maybe we can just trick her into coming with us."

“I see… Yup, not dying sound like a fine plan, let's go with that. Talking her down would be the best option but since she's evaded capture this long and with a ton of effort I’m not gonna get my hopes up. Mostly likely if we win her trust then realizes we're going to hand her to the Magic Council we’ll just piss her off a lot. Plus can we even talk her down? Don’t crazy people always think their way is right or something? Bleh, I don't know much about kids, but I’ll follow your lead on that and help when  I can. Thanks for the input by the way” Grema says with complete sincerity if a bit backhanded as she scrolled through her database to save face. Ugh, this was definitely going to be harder than she thought. Was illusion magic really that versatile? Dammit, maybe Grema had been a bit impulsive to accept this job, good pay or no. Surely by now, Aliarey felt the same, hopefully, she wouldn’t try to ditch. No, by how the other woman was talking she knew the risks involved and wouldn’t back out. Or possibly because the pay was high. Actually, judging by her reactions when the bounty was announced, she was definitely in this for the pay. And now that Grema thought of it, she had the same almost overreaction on their last job when Grema found the payment. Did she really like money or something? The gun mage did believe in rather illogical things.

Looking at the other woman from the corner of her eye during a comfortable lull of silence, and the cyborg for the first time wondered about her companion’s story. She didn’t seem like she was from a rich background, or that she was from a poor background. Her gear obviously meant she knew at least a bit about mechanics if she built it herself, so she was probably well educated at some point, along with being trained in magic. The magitech mage was curious, and why shouldn’t she be? They were teammates, after all, Grema can ask these kinds of questions, right?

So she decided to bite the proverbial bullet. “So what about you? Are you from Fiore? And where were you educated to build some of those weapons of yours, if you don’t mind me asking.” The older woman questions the younger as they get closer to their destination. Grema didn’t want to pry too much and hoped the Requip mage would reveal a bit more about herself, though it made her uncomfortable just to ask in the first place. Was this how you made friends? Geh, it was so awkward why do people like to do this sort of thing? Was this another subject that Grema shouldn’t, how did blondie say it? Isn't ‘supposed to be broken down into random bits of logic’, right? How else was the mage going to understand it? How did anyone understand anything without a fair helping of logic? It seems Grema still had a long ways to go before she truly understood Fioran society.

"Don't mention it," Aliarey replied with a shrug of her shoulders. While she appreciated Grema being grateful for giving her own opinions on the matter the gun mage wasn't sure it was something that needed a thanks. They were going into the job together so it was only natural that they discuss it. "You're probably right though, and if you're not it would still be hard to talk her down if we went that route. I'm all out of candy and fuzzy stuffed animals." The girl they were after was not going to be a normal child by any means but there was a chance she still had the immature emotions of one. It just had to be a kid, which she did not enjoy having around to begin with under normal circumstances. Dealing with a psychotic one was not going to be easy considering the reward was higher if she was brought in alive, and there was already her promise to try and bring the brat in alive due to her teammates views on the matter. Things were likely going to get dangerous playing that way and even she of all people was going to have to be cautious from the moment they enter the village.

Aliarey allowed her eyes to close during the temporary moment of silence between the two. With not much else to do but chit chat it made for the perfect time to rest. After all, there was no telling when the next opportunity to do so would arise. One blue eye opened when the magitech mage spoke again and even after the questions were asked Aliarey remained silent for a moment. She wasn't sure if answering those questions was something she really wanted to do. Making friends, getting close to people, hell even being part of a team were things she considered abnormal for her. It made it possible to take on higher paying jobs with people that had proven capable enough, but she still was not the type that was completely comfortable being close to others. With answering those questions, even as minor as they were, it would prove she was allowing herself to be more open about herself and she was not sure she wanted that. Aliarey preferred to have ties with people that were easy to cut off when things got bad. The higher up friendship got on the priority list then the more difficult it would be to sever them. However, was it really fair to be part of a team and not disclose even the most basic of information? Grema herself did not seem to be the type that made getting friendly with people a habit and even she had answered those basic questions without being asked to do so.

The one opened eye closed as the blonde sighed, letting herself lose the mental battle and deciding to answer. "Yeah, I'm from Fiore," she replied calmly as both eyes opened once more to look at the other mage. "The family has been around this place for generations, but I don't think it's always been called Casady. I had a habit of taking naps during the family history lectures so I kind of missed some details." Aliarey let out a small laugh and continued. "What I do know is that the family ancestors were part of some clan that favored strength above all else and so the families that actually know they are descended from them tend to put a lot of effort on using magic that makes use of or increases strength. I'm more of a rebel in that design. I go pew pew rather than bash and smash. Most of the time anyway. As for the weapons," Aliarey trailed off as she pulled out one of her normal pistols from its holster and held it up. "Most aren't like you with the whole building weapons and AI stuff. You go to the nearest weapon shop, pay the jewels, and ta-da! You got yourself a weapon. This one is actually pretty weak but it was cheap and with my magic ammo for it is free aside from a small amount of energy." She tossed the weapon over at Grema to catch and examine if she wished. If not then the weapon would just teleport immediately to its owner the moment it hit the floor. "You way overestimate me if you actually think I build them myself. I just know some people and that's all. Maybe one day I'll make something, but I don't think I have the patience for it."

Well, now that was some interesting information. Sorta. It was better than nothing at least.

But her family was into melee combat? Grema remembered on their last job, how the bandits had attacked their group and contrary to the scientist's expectations the gunner and run up to the criminals and bodily beat the crap out of them. At the time Grema found the strength she had at the time odd for both her magic type and body type but had mentally filed it away since they were being attacked. But at least now she had an explanation for it. A family trait, huh? Was it at all like her own regenerative abilities that had turned her blood into poisonous acid? Grema hoped not, that particular trait never helped her much in life. The scientist admits to herself that she would very much like to study the Casady bloodline and abilities, but she had sworn off live experimentations, or experiments having anything to do with other people in general other than herself after what happened in Bosco that got her banished in the first place.  Unethical human experimentation, cruelty of any kind, got on Grema’s nerves but for the life of her never understood why. Why would such a logical person like her care about cruelty?

But that was a line of thought for another time. Until then she had a conversation to finish. “That’s interesting. Have you ever thought of learning how to build your own gear?” Grema suggests to the other woman, semi-aware that while Aliarey’s weapons were much more simplistic than her own, engineering was still a difficult profession to learn. “Or at the very least learn how to fix and rebuild some of it. I can make more of most of my equipment on the field with the right materials… If you want me to show you how or need me to fix some things, just let me know. The difference between Fiore and Bosco tech is interesting. But if you want me to build things for you, you’ll have to pay or get me the materials to do so.” Grema informed the other holder mage, inspecting the gun that had been thrown at her. It was well made if lower tech than the mechanic was used to. That was probably for the best, easier to repair and operate that way. The gun mage obviously took care of her gear, Grema couldn’t find any obvious faults with it. She revisited the urge to disassemble it, because while she can easily reassemble the gun to its original working capacity, Aliarey might not appreciate it. Actually, she would probably just shoot Grema. So instead she just handed the gun back to it’s owner, simply says “it’s a good weapon” and leaves it at that. They had arrived at their destination after all.

“We’re gonna need to walk for a few hours first unless you want to rent one of those magically running automobiles.” The scientist says to the guns mage as they exit the train. She had a map of the region up in her database that showed the distanced from the current town they were into the infamous Haunted Village. It was rather remote which really wasn’t all that surprising given its reputation and name. For all the mage knew it could have been very populated before it got its haunted title. They were on their way to it no matter what though. It was really just a matter how. “What do you think? It would sort of suck to get it destroyed in case things go bad, though I would be able to fix it. We would just have to pay for insurance. There’s also the cost of magic which might be vital in a fight. On the other hand walking for so long will be boring and might tire us out.” And by us, Grema mean me, since she wasn’t all that athletic compared to other mages. “We should also buy some other supplies like food in case this takes longer than planned. Maybe some hand cuffs that drains magic or something as well from the local Rue Knights.” She had forgotten to ask the last one, dammit. Hopefully, this sect of the law enforcement would lend them some and possibly give them more information on Lilith due to their close proximity to her base of operations.

It was a small surprise that the magitech engineer had offered to help fix her equipment up and even show her how to do it herself. Wasn't she the one that had flat out said no to the idea of building one of those AI whatchamacalits for her? Then, of course, was the mention of payment in return. Well darn. Nothing was ever free. "Maybe I'll take you up on that offer one day. Do you take payments of IOUs?" She was not expecting a serious answer to the question since it was really only a joke. Rare was the day when she had the spare money to even buy upgrades so there was no way she would be able to hire someone to help her build something. Grema did mention things being built if the materials were gathered as well, but it wasn't as if she knew what all sorts of materials were needed. It did put the thought of actually learning to do the stuff herself in her head though. Now if only she were not so lazy to do it.

Aliarey hopped off the train and stood there looking at the village as Grema spoke about the best way to get to the Haunted Village and of stocking up on supplies. Her right hand took a place on her hip as she thought about it. Walking for hours would sort of suck, but she was rather athletic and could likely handle it fine assuming there were few obstacles along the way. Although, If Grema was the stereotypical scientist then it was doubtful that she had any sort of long term endurance. There was just one itty bitty little problem that came with renting one of those magical vehicles. They probably checked for drivers licenses. The blonde could drive one just fine but it certainly was not by any law standards and she lacked the proper paperwork that said she was an okay driver. Honestly, she probably would never pass the test as she would be the type to go at the fastest speed possible while trying to do tricks. Until she crashed anyway, then she'd learn never to do that again. Maybe. "I'm going to go out on a limb here and say they probably won't give us a magic powered vehicle unless we have a license. I hope you have one because I sure don't." Aliarey then looked at Grema with a mischievous smile. "We can always steal one." How interesting that would be. Two mages wanted for vehicle theft taking out the wanted psycho child. Would they even get the reward upon their return? Most likely not. Good thing the gun mage was not at all serious with the suggestion. Regardless of how they got there, she thought the cuffs were a good idea but unless they actually managed to get a vehicle the supplies were going to be a pain to carry around. It was common sense to stock up, but still such a pain.

“No.” Grema deadpans to the IOU suggestion, jesting just as much as the gunner if the small smirk on the cyborg's face was anything to go by. “Gimmie money or awesome materials. I’m running out of tungsten and rhodium if you happen to come across any. My resourcing has been a little rocky recently.” Once again, Grema was attempting to jest. Not sure if it worked, but the scientist tried. “I won’t ask for much anyways mostly since were teammates and our general survivals depend on each other at times. But maybe you’re just stingy?” Grema snarked as they wandered down the town’s street.

“Wait, what, drivers license? Oh crap ya, I completely forgot about those things.” No Grema did not have one of those. She’s a new immigrant of Fiore and didn’t even think of getting one, Bosco had a good public metro system so she had never gotten one there either. That sounded like a major pain because even if Grema could easily memorize all of the information for the written exam in an hour there were a few problems, one is that they definitely didn’t have time to take the test right now, two Grema had never even driven such an automobile so passing the practical test would be iffy, and three is that legalizing the license would probably take days.

But after Alairey’s jesting remark about stealing one, an idea occurred to the magitech mage. Her mouth curved into a mischievous grin. “Hmmm… mwhahahaa...” She chuckles. “I have a plan for that. Here’s what, you get the cuffs and supplies. Maybe a few days rations, some light torches, camping supplies, that sort of stuff. Meet me at the north exit of the town in at least three hours, okay? Leave the vehicle to me.” With another cackle, the magitech mage scurries off in another direction.

It really wasn't that much of a devious plan all things considering, she just wanted to rile up the other woman. Well, it was actually probably more illegal than her other suggestion, just with a less likely chance of being caught. Black Rose wouldn’t care as long as the caught part didn’t happen, Grema didn’t notice at first but her guild was pretty sketchy for a legal one. But Grema had enough confidence in her skills not to get caught. This plan involved her forte after all.

Well, the first part didn’t, but it was still easy enough. Grema was slightly nervous though since she hadn’t pick pocketed since her school days, and hadn’t done it regularly since her childhood. But it was a necessary part of her plan. Soon Grema found herself in a crowd of people and the engineer almost felt nostalgic as she looked for a proper target, just like old times. The target had to be well off enough to be able to buy or use a drivers license, but poor enough to have to do their own work. Usually, a man since they stupidly kept their wallets in their back pockets. Soon Grema found a good enough target and ‘accidently’ bumped into him, and then back away with an apology. But instead of swiping the wallet like she used to, she let the item drop to the ground. She then put up a show of picking it up and looking around for its owner, and after pretending not to see him she flipped it open. This one didn’t have a drivers license, to her disappointment. Subject a dud, she caught up with the man and ‘returned’ his wallet that he happened to ‘drop’ like the good legal mage she was, everything within it unchanged, even still filled with bills. See, this wasn’t totally illegal! She wasn’t actually stealing anything!
But anyway it took her another two tries of doing it in different areas of the town before coming across one with a driver’s license. This time she took a tad longer at ‘looking’ at the ID, and both sides as well before returning it. This was because of the whole reason she started this part of her plan in the first place, to get a scan of the driver’s license to see what it looked like and what it was made of.

While M.A.I was making her new license in Grema’s database, the scientist got the ingredients she needed to make the fake; some mendable plastic and ink. She then got to work in making a device out of her magitech to create fake card ID’s to magical standards. There was actually a magical code within that person's card so Grema would make her own code to go along with the final part of her plan.

By the time the card was done the three hours were almost up and Grema headed to where people told her the place to rent magical vehicles were. The last part hinged on whether they kept an account of people who had licenses and whether it was even partially magitech or not. Most likely it was if they needed to scan the card for it’ number. Though if it was entirely magic in its making Grema was in trouble.

Thankfully as she walked up to the counter they seemed to have a crude computing machine that she was used to in Bosco that probably kept their own database of license ID’s. While Grema was chatting away with the clerk the mechanic had casually draped her magitech arm over the counter so it touched the back of the computer. She then touched a hotkey button that allowed M.A.I to hack into the system an input Grema into it as a legal driver’s license owner.

Grema was very relieved and smug about how well the whole con went. Sure it was illegal as hell, but nobody was harmed during it and nobody had to know. So she had walked out of the building toward a van sized magical car and went steadily on her way.

Well, maybe not steadily, she may have almost hit a few people and she would have to repair a few dents before they returned it, but she had made it to the meeting spot not only in one piece but one time as well!

While waiting for the other mage it occurred to Grema that Aliarey might have a hard time getting the cuffs as a non-legal guild mage. Crap. “Oh well, she’s not a moron, just blond. She’ll figure it out.” Grema says out loud with a yawn, lounging in the front seat of her semi-legally acquired van. Mai just sighed.

Stingy? Her? No way! She just needed a lot of cool stuff that just so happened to always be overpriced. They were all just greedy! It sounded though like her teammate would not ask for too much due to the fact that they actually were part of a team. A song of discounts played in the blonde's head and if that was a perk for having a team then why the heck did she never sign up for one before? Oh, right. The whole loner thing and getting close to people. Forget that! Discounts!

Aha! So Grema did lack a license as well. Aliarey expected as much and was satisfied with the idea of walking the rest of the way to their destination. However, for something expected there is always something unexpected. The hunchbacked woman actually liked the idea. Or maybe just had similar thoughts. Was she really from a legal guild? Aliarey had thought them all to be very obnoxious law abiding citizens with hero delusions. The gun mage was given a vocal list of supplies to gather with instructions to meet up a few hours later and Grema would be handling the vehicle situation. Aliarey's eyes filled with horror at the thought of her teammate going grand theft auto and ruining the chances for their reward. It was too late to stop her though as the other woman took off to complete her task. "Hey! You better not get us in trouble!" The blonde shouted loudly, getting the attention of random citizens that had been standing around or walking by. It did not bother her at all, but what did was the fact that she actually had to get all of the supplies, which meant she had to say goodbye to some precious jewels. "Aw, man. She could have at least given me some money first."

A half hour was left on the clock as Aliarey was getting the last of the supplies. Strapped upon her back was a large camping backpack that looked as if it was about to explode from having way too much shoved inside. The straps of two large duffel bags were also draped around her shoulders and each hand carried another. Even though her normal strength was higher than a normal person's it was still quite a heavy load and she was barely able to move.

"That is a lot of stuff you got there, missy." Said the salesman after the transaction was complete. She had made stops to a few shops in the village to get everything she thought they needed and that had been the last one. The salesman realized she had no more room in either hand for the last smaller bag. "Just hold out the strap," Aliarey instructed and once he did she opened her mouth and bit onto the strap, planning to carry the bag with her teeth. The salesman stared with wide eyes, hardly believing she actually needed all of it. She had nearly bought one of everything in his store alone! "Where in Fiore are you going to think you need all of this?!" Her response came in incomprehensible gibberish due to the fact she was using her mouth as a bag carrier. He asked again and same thing. She finally spit out the bag strap, annoyed that the man could not understand her obvious and clearly said answer. "The Haunted Village."

The sales clerk's mouth dropped and his eyes went wide. "You would have to be insane to go there! No one that does ever returns." Aliarey's head tilted to the side in slight confusion. "Eh?" The man put his hands on the counter. "Every week we used to send supplies up to that village. It may have a name that spooked people but there were normal folks living around there. One day, the men we sent to make the delivery never came back and it kept happening until we had to give up. We haven't seen anyone that lived in the village come by either."

"Scary," Aliarey said, giving some thought of it being a little bit exaggerated but she believed him. It made sense with the job too but if regular citizens were disappearing then the theory of Lilith not attacking legal mages was out. Her blue eyes looked at the bag that had fallen on the ground and then she looked at the clerk. "Could ya..." The man nodded before she could finish and went around the counter to pick up the bag. Once held instead of letting her bite onto the strap he instead raised his arms over her head and placed the strap around her neck so she could carry the bag like a really large necklace. "Hey that works! Thanks!" Aliarey turned towards the door and, upon realizing she could not lift her arms or use her hands to open it after a few attempts, she raised her leg and kicked it open and exited the shop.

Slowly but surely she was making her way to the meeting spot. Slowly but surely the fact she had yet to get the magic suppressing cuffs crept into the front of her mind. "Damn, I forgot. Where is that Rune Knight station?" She still had some time left before the deadline so it wasn't a total catastrophe. She asked someone nearby and made her way to the small building where she could hopefully get one of those cuffs. As she entered the building with her stash of bags and supplies she got a few odd looks and could hear some chuckles and giggles in the background. "Hey! Stop making fun of the one who's going to take care of your psycho child problem! Now give me one of those magic cuff things! This stuff is getting heavy."

"You're not serious? You're taking the Lilith case?" As Aliarey nodded her head the main Rune Knight was at a loss for words. Well if a guild mage was taking the case then he may as well assist in any way he could. He pulled out a pair of magic handcuffs and was starting to attempt at making room for them in one of her bags when he asked, "what guild did you say you were from again?"

"None." Aliarey was not one to tell a lie.

He stopped, backed off, and placed the handcuffs on the desk behind him. "I'm sorry. We don't give these out normally even to legal mages. I was going to let it slide due to the fact we need help with this case but I can't risk giving them out to someone not even aligned with a legal guild."

"Oh, come on! What if I said I was in a team with someone from a legal guild?" The answer in summarized form was that since that teammate was not there then it could not be confirmed. There was five minutes left before the deadline. Someone else in the building had called the main Rune Knight and distracted him before he could put away the hand cuffs properly. With no other way to handle this, Aliarey made a reckless choice; she stole them. Boosting her strength with her bloodline, the gun mage was able to carry her load much more easily and move normally. She rushed to the desk, leaned over it to bite down on the cuffs, and rushed out the door while shouting a thank you that could be mistaken for some unknown language due to the distortion. Aliarey heard shouts for her to stop but she kept on moving. They would get over it once they returned around the wrists of Lilith. Maybe. At that point who cared?

Aliarey ran to the meeting point, which happened to have an actual vehicle waiting. Grema had actually done it. There was no time to wonder how since a couple of Rune Knights were on her tail. Good thing they seemed to lack any sort of experience. That or they were really rusty while being stationed in the small village. Now the problem was getting into the van with all of her supplies. She couldn't exactly open the doors and she was kind of in a rush. With her teeth clenched around the cuffs she also could not call out to Grema. The most she could do once reaching the van was jump around while pointing one of her arms in the direction of her pursuers. Yeah, so much for Grema being the one to cause trouble.

Re: Nightmare Lillith with Lumindis [Job/Private]

Post by Grema Fen on 19th August 2017, 3:16 am

Grema had just begun to doze off when she heard yelling. And when she began to pay enough attention, stomping feet as well. She blinked dozily, rubbing her one good eye while the mechanical one flicked back on since it went into ‘sleep mode’ when she was resting, then stretched a little, feeling her hunch crack a bit at the strain. But looking out the window Grema was met with an odd and mostly displeasing sight. What sight was that you ask? Only Grema’s partner jumping up and down in a panicked fashion wearing a bag packed and strapped with so many things with was over a head taller than her. Her arms were also filled with many different bags of sorts, and were those the cuffs Grema asked for hanging from her mouth? Gross, but at least she got it. The scientist was stuck in her stretching position, face etched in bewilderment.

Then the yelling and stomping got louder, and Aliarey jumping got more panicked. Grema could give and educated guess on what this was all about, mostly since the yells were full of ‘stop you thief!’ and ‘gives those back!’. Also, when the engineer rolled down the window with her foot and peeked out of it (still paused in her stretching pose), she saw some Rune Knights semi-quickly running toward them. The cyborg curse in every language she knew, which was one, and opened the door “Dammit bullet head what have you gotten us into this time?! Gaaaah, I’ll talk to them, just get in the van.” The magitech mage grumbles to her teammate. Aliarey struggled to get in even as Grema was getting out, the Rune Knights slowing down warily as someone odder looking appeared.

“You there! That girl is a criminal wanted for thievery! Hand her over!” One of the armored people yelled at her, a woman by her voice. Then looked tenser when Grema finally squeezed herself out of the van and ignoring any protests, made herself look more presentable. This was a pain, why did she have to steal all that stuff?! Well, Grema would just explain the situation (aka bullshit), show off her guild mark, pay the money and they would be on their way. “Listen this is all just a big mis- what the heck was that for?!” The mage yells out as she barely dodges a magical beam sent her way.

“We would know that kind of outfit anywhere! You’re a pirate! Probably that girls captain!” Another one says with zest, dramatically pointing a finger at the half-robot.  “What kind of bull is that?! Just because I’m wearing a pirate-ish outfit doesn’t mean I’m a-“ “Don’t lie to me! Why else would you associate with that thief? Also, really? A magical cyborg pirate? That’s soooooo hipster. Young people these days…”

‘What the hell is a hipster?’ Grema wondered briefly before realizing that was an insult of sorts, causing her the steam with anger, to the point she was actually contemplating attacking Rune Knights. But for some reason the guild mark on her palm seemed to get warmer, calming her down. No, while her guild might be a bit morally ambiguous, they would not like her doing such a thing. They may be filled with a bunch of weirdos who made her do stupid errands, but… they were still her guild mates. Was this what the blondie meant, was this something not to be structured by logic?

“Either way, you both under arrest!” The female once said again, obviously a bit more level headed than her fellow. Usually, Grema would just hand herself over and organize it properly, mostly with the warm remainder on her hand, but people were in danger with Lillith hanging around, and these knights were obviously too worked up to listen to reason. So it was time for some… distracting and fleeing measures.

“I’m sorry, we have a mini-pyscho to stop! I promised we will hand ourselves in later! Pirate Garb Spell: King of Pirates!” With those words Grema summoned power from her outfit, causing a very large flash, stunning the Rune Knights, any onlookers, and possibly Aliarey if she hadn’t shielded herself on time. With everyone sufficiently distracted Grema gave a strong push to the gun mages behind to get her out of the driver’s seat, a hard task with all of the stuff attached to the other woman got in, then revved the engine to life. Then revved it some more because she forgot what to do next. Then fiddled with the stick thing a bit. Then turned it off, revved it, fiddled with stick thingy again, and turned it back on again. Then slowly, pushed the stick around and with a triumphant grin put the metal leg to the metal.

Then sped backward, causing the Rune Knights behind them to go flying back. “Crap sorry! That was an accident!” They would be okay, that was a hell of a lot of armor they wore. Stick thingy in the right position this time, Grema tried again. And stalled. The onlookers, who had broken of their trance by this point, started yelling out suggestions. Grema decided to actually follow them was able to get the vehicle steadily moving forward “I’m a freaking genius scientist slash engineer slash mechanic of freaking magitech which this hunk of junk is freaking gods why the hell can’t I get it to work for me gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.” Grema fumed under her breath as she zoomed forwards out of the town.

“And you!” She growled after they suddenly stopped from another car stall. “Why the -heek- hell did you have to steal all -ick- of that –gaah- stuff?! Are you –uurgh- really that – woah- poor?!? Dammit I’ll still have – ugh – to pay – eeek – half won't I?! Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu” She yelled out as she swerved around a completely random tree, accidentally going off the road awhile back. Each odd noise in that sentence was with Grema stalling, hitting something, avoiding something, or any other type of vehicle catastrophes one can imagine. “That was close.” “Ma’am you're about to drive off a cliff!” M.A.I warns her just in time, causing them all to scream and the cyborg to swerve the van just in time to not drive over the edge.

There was complete silence for a moment as they all seemingly starred out in shock, Grema’s hood down and spiky brown hair sticking out more crazily than usual. Slowly, the woman put her head on the steering wheel and rested there in silence for a moment longer. A few seconds later a mummer of “Maybe you should drive.” Could be heard.

Re: Nightmare Lillith with Lumindis [Job/Private]

Post by Lumindis on 19th August 2017, 5:30 am

To answer Grema's question on what kind of trouble Aliarey had caused now only garbled gibberish came as a reply. The cuffs were still being held by her teeth, preventing any sort of clear communication. If anyone were to translate though it would come out as her saying the whole thing was not her fault. With her companion saying she would handle the situation Aliarey got into the van and tossed some of the bags into the back. The larger of the bags still remained on her back and the smaller one still around her neck which added some difficulty with even getting inside the vehicle. The cuffs that were behind the whole situation? Removed and tossed nonchalantly in the backseat to join the rest of the baggage. Grabbing those things better have been worth the effort.

Considering the door was wide open and she was sitting in the dirver's seat, Aliarey could hear everything that was being said as well as see. The comment about Grema being a pirate was a sweatdrop moment and, quite frankly, an outcome she did not expect. The knight really was taking a bit of a stretch with that one. What stereotypical pirate raids a village in the middle of nowhere with a van? They're supposed to be on ships and yelling 'argh!' with every spoken sentence. "But I don't want to go to jail!" Aliarey whined from her place inside the van and then followed up with a high pitched low whine on how they wouldn't let her keep her money while she was in custody.

A bright flash appeared and blinded the gun mage temporarily and then she felt herself being shoved hard into the passenger seat. Ow! Aliarey's sight started to come back as the magitech mage tried to get the vehicle moving. Her sight was still blurry but she could definitely feel the backwards movement of the van along with hearing the surprised shouts and angry voices of the rune knights that got hit. It would appear allowing Grema to do the driving was going to be an idea turned horrible. Slowly Aliarey's hands reached up, pulled down the shoulder belt of her seat, and buckled it into the clasp of on the lower left side of the seat. The ride was going to be one heck of an experience.

Aliarey jumped in her seat once Grema had the time to finally focus her attention on her. No answer was given at that moment for she was too busy holding on for dear life and even closing her eyes with each problematic catastrophe that occurred. With the mention of the cliff and it quickly approaching all Aliarey could do was scream and shout "I don't wanna die!" At least there was the possibility of being buried with all her jewels and weapons when she died. Then again, anyone she knew was likely to just take it all for themselves and upon that quick realization she had to cry. The van swerved, missing the cliff by an inch, and an awkward silence fell upon those in the vehicle. Deep breaths were taken by the blonde and she was sure she would die by some heart attack at the rate the ride was going. "Yeah, lets....lets just go with that," she shakily replied and then opened the passenger side door to make her exit. Never again was she allowing Grema to take the wheel. Never!

There were no pursuers thankfully and so Aliarey took off the rest of her baggage and tossed it into the back. With the two mages having switched spots, she was now behind the wheel and in control. Honestly, her being behind the wheel was not going to be much better. She could control a vehicle just fine but she was a little tiny bit of a speeder. Her lips formed into a mischievous grin as her hands gripped the wheel. "Buckle up," was the only warning she gave before working the stick shift and stomping on the pedal, causing the van to take off in a high speed. She could have gotten back on the road but what was the point? The route they were taking could of been a shortcut! The van swerved around random trees and bushes, barely avoided large boulders, and at one point in a large clearing she felt the need to yank the wheel to try out a donut trick, which led to the van nearly tipping over. "This is actually pretty fun!"

Going in a straight angle once more the trip continued, making great time due to her need for high speeds. The hellacious car ride had one final bullet point. Old buildings came into view and with no other landmarks that she was aware of Aliarey assumed it to be the infamous Haunted Village. A large creek stood in their way, creating a gap between their side and that of the village's. The speed of the van increased as the gun mage directed the vehicle towards a convenient boulder in the shape of a ramp that went upwards. They were going to jump it. "Better hold on to something!" She shouted almost maniacally just before the van reached the ramp and then went sailing through the air. The vehicle reached the other side barely and landed with a hard metal and uncomfortable thud. No doubt a lot of repairs were going to have to be made before it was returned.

While the landing itself did provide some annoying aches and pains, the blonde seemed to be unaffected as she pushed the door open and jumped out with arms raised above her head. "We're here!" She was completely unaware at first of the fact the village was completely deserted. At least they actually made it in one piece though.

Grema was suddenly grateful she had just learned of the existence of seatbelts because she sure as hell needed them. It was around this point she was beginning to miss Liam because there was no way he sucked more at driving than the two women. It just wasn’t possible.

To be fair to Aliarey definitely was a better driver than Grema, she didn’t hit as many things overall. The difference between the two was while the cyborg hit a lot of things, she didn’t go all that fast, thus the impacts were mostly absorbed by the vehicle. The gunner on the other hand, while she had yet to hit anything, if she did at this utterly ridiculous speed they would either be ejected from the van or crushed under the debrief, severely injuring them either way. The holder mage didn’t even take the safety net a road would have given them, instead of going wild off road like Grema accidentally did. Both Grema and her assistant were mute with terror and by the first ‘trick’, the dashboard in front of the engineer was transformed by her magitech arm gripping it too hard.

By the time they were nearing the village itself Germa’s jaw ached from clenching it too much and a part of the dashboard had accidentally been ripped off by the scientist, who was now clutching the convoluted metal like some sort of teddy bear.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea, nononononononono NOOOOOOO!” The magitech expert screams out as they fly through the air, then starts swearing at her teammate before being cut off by their rough landing. Grema lets out a roan as her makeshift teddy bear rams into her stomach a little at the landing and she bangs her chin against it, but otherwise not that worse for wear. “Team driving is banned until we find out whether Liam can do it better or not.” Grema announces with a grumble, then gets out, walks to the other side of the vehicle, then hits Aliarey over the head with her human arm.

“Can’t you drive like a normal person?! Geeze, I thought we were gonna die there for a minute.” Grema says, missing the fact it was a tad hypercritical for her to say such a thing. She then straightens herself out and takes a look at their surroundings.

The village looked like those old larcima moving image stories about men with wide brimmed hats, cool boots, and revolvers they used to duel. It defiantly had a lane like where they fought the duel, and had an abandoned, dusty feel to it. Probably because it was mostly abandoned. The mage actually expected one of those bush things to roll by with the howling wind.

But unlike the larcima stories this town looked a tad bigger, meaning they would probably have to search a bit for their prey. “Let’s get some stuff and go. This place is already giving me the creeps.” Grema comments to her partner then goes back to the van and begins to shift through the ridiculous amount of supplies the woman bought. She got enough for about two meals for each of them, a magical light, and a few other odd and ends that might be useful. Grema then reached over to grab the handcuffs and attached it to the belt she wore, ready to whip it out at any time. She gave half of the supplies for Aliarey to carry. “C’mon chick, let's mosey.” The cyborg grunts as they start to trudge along the town’s unused main road.

It was around then that things began to get odd. Every once in a while Grema would hear something in an ear, almost like a small bug flying too close to it. She would then run the ear and move on, until it started again in the next ear, getting louder each time. She didn’t even realize they were starting to move slower, the sensation as too annoying.

Soon, Grema began to hear the whispers. She could tell they were human voices, but she couldn’t discern what gender they were or even what they were saying. It was like they always spoke too quietly for the scientist to hear, but with that annoying whispery tone that grated against one ear. It was really starting to get to Grema until she realized what was going on. “Damn mind game! Blondie, be careful, I think Lilith knows we’re here and is starting to mess with us! Remember to keep your mind in check and don’t give in!” Grema barks, the words seeming unnaturally loud in the silent town, which was getting darker by the minute even though it was still midday, and had some spooky mist rolling in to top it all off.

"Ooowwww!" Aliarey covered the spot of her head where Grema had struck her, thankfully with her human arm instead of the mechanical one. The scolding was starting to become the norm, and with that particular instance, annoying. Almost die with her driving? Grema had nearly ran over a cliff! At least her way was on purpose with the intent on knowing what she was doing. If the car happened to miss that was just a miscalculation. If the car exploded on landing that just meant the car was poorly made. "Yeah, okay, She Who Nearly Drives Us Off A Cliff." If in the future Liam was allowed to drive they were surely in trouble if he was just as terrible as they were.

It was time for the blonde to take a look at their surroundings and notice just how eerie it was. Not a single person in sight aside from herself and Grema. That explained why the other village had not seen anyone come down, but what of the delivery people that stopped by? A shiver coursed through Aliarey and she was ready to get back into the van and get out of there. Unfortunately her companion wanted to actually go through with exploring the place and actually finding Lilith. Joy. They were actually going through with it. In a quick flash Aliarey's civilian clothing was switched out for the leather armor that covered everything besides her head. Whether it would actually protect her from anything in that place was anyone's guess but it was better than nothing. She took the supplies she was given and as soon as Grema was out of the way she reached for one of the larger bags and pulled out a smaller backpack for which she used to stuff her half of the supplies in. Hey, extra bags were important! "And the adventure continues!" Aliarey commented with sarcastic enthusiasm as she followed after the pirate-garbed woman.

As the duo made their way along the main road of the village Aliarey began to hear what sounded like low whispers although she couldn't quite make out what was being said. It appeared as if Grema was hearing them as well so at the very least she wasn't going insane. Unless, of course, they both were. The requip mage's hands lowered and placed themselves on the holsters around her hips, ready to grab onto her weaker pistols if needed. "Got it," Aliarey replied to her teammate, her tone now flipping to be more serious. Things were going to start getting dangerous and not even she could allow herself to be the typical self centered and lazy blonde she normally was. The whispers came to a stop suddenly, causing the gun mage to tense up. Was the silence supposed to mean anything? The sound of a slamming door thundered through the silence, and instinctively Aliarey drew one of her pistols, turned around, and shot in the direction of the sound. The loud bang of the shot echoed around the village and even startled a flock of crows that took off in flight as they cawed. What had been the lurking in the direction of the sound? A floating...sword?

Aliarey squinched her eyes but no matter how much she stared at the thing she couldn't see anyone actually wielding it. "That is actually floating there, right?" She questioned Grema before the sword started to come closer. Another shot was fired at the sword but nothing happened. The bullet just seemed to go right through it. "Okay, either weapons can die and turn into ghosts now or that is an illusion." A step was taken towards it, and then another, but each movement that was supposed to take her closer to the weapon just seemed to make it go farther instead. "I...am going to assume it's okay to ignore it."

At first, Grema was too distracted by the whispers to notice them. They were getting more annoying by the moment and the woman found herself unwillingly straining her hearing to better understand what they were saying. The academic curiosity in her yearned to hear their voices, but the newer Grema the mage knew that was a bad idea. She had to stay focused and ignore the illusions unless they seemed to pose a legitimate threat. The whispers so far were just that, whispers. They have yet to pose any sort of danger other than annoying the hell out of Grema.

The damn noises finally stopped as a thundering sound echoed across the area. Or it at least sounded loud in the pitch silence overtaking the misty area. Grema jumped as if shocked by electricity and looked around in an almost panic, trying to figure out the source of the noise. But the mist blocked anything that they might have seen, and after calming down a bit the scientist identified it as a wooden door slamming shut.

“What did you say? I was distracted by that stupid...” The cyborg trailed off as she finally noticed the sword in front of her partner. It looked creepy, just floating there and all rusty looking. The rust was even a reddish brown that made it signify both rust and dried blood belonged on its surface, and a forlorn looking dirt rag wrapped around its hilt, fluttering in a non-existent wind. After her initial surprise Grema gets into a battle stance as it nears them and what about to yell out a warning to Aliarey when she starts shooting it, only for the woman’s bullets to go right through the weapon. Approaching it didn’t seem to work either. “Probably an illusion… But we’d best be wary in case it decides to attack us or something.” Grema mummers for any sound within this silence was too loud at the moment.

Slowly walking beside the requip mage the cyborg decides to check behind them in case something was sneaking up on the duo, Grema suddenly gives a jump. “There’s another one behind us!” She hisses, smoothly repositioning herself at Aliarey’s back, mechanical arm ready. But the sword just continues to creepily float in the air, only moving when they do. Of course with the mist getting denser by the minute it was hard to tell if the mages were actually making any progress, the buildings on either side of them were almost useable.

The two team Ligral members slowly edge forward for awhile until Grema glances to the side. “Shit, another one to your left… and you're right?” The scientist finishes as the glances in the other direction, seeing the same sword hovering there. Well, this was certainly weird. Theory forming, a looks skywards was made and sure enough, a blade was there. “It seems like we may be surrounded. Or not. More likely the illusion is following the movements of our eyes to place the sword there or something.” Happy with her logical explanation, Grema nods to herself, but it still a bit spooked. Having something constantly in your face like that, with no escape no matter where you looked, was rather discording.

Attempting to take a break from what she saw, Grema foolishly closed her eyes for a moment. Then was horrified to find out that even with her eyes closed, the sword remained in her visions forefront. She gave a dry swallow at the idea that there was no escape from this thing haunting her for now, and in her nervousness bumped into the blond's back. “We better be getting closer. This freaky magic is really starting to weird me out.” The magitech mage grumbles to the other, hiding her uneasiness through grumpiness.
