    The Cult and the Coffer

Post by Mark Baxter on 16th May 2017, 2:48 am

    Job Details:

Job Title: Monster Hunt: Doppelganger Cult (One Time Only.)
    Rank: B-Rank
    Player Requirements:  2 C-Rank Mage(s) /  1 B-Rank Mage
Job Requirements:  5000 Word Count minimum, 12 Rolls Minimum, Must beat all 3 Bosses.
    Job Location:  Oak Inn
    Job Description:
On the *Insert Guild here * board, you find a quest detailing a cult of many doppelgangers, wanted for the murders of dozens of people. They list that you must clear out the entire building where they are located, the Oak Inn, or rather, the basement complex. Their leaders are unnamed, and unable to be drawn with clarity, but they are believed to take the form of a couple lordlings in the area. The lordlings are named Isabella Umbre, Franklin, son of Thrais, and a pre-teen girl by the name of Deseray, who had the power of Foresight.
Inside the complex is a vast array of corridors, and doors, meant to lead those who enter astray, except those who know which way to go...
    enemies:

-Weak: Doppelganger Underlings (x8): These doppelgangers, though they do look frail, are not to be trifled with. Each underling has a poisoned Dagger, capable of dealing 3 C-Rank Damage, and dealing 1 C-Rank Damage over 3 posts. They also can take the shape of you (and your party), disorienting you as to who and what you are fighting. They take 1 B-Rank Damage to kill each.
-Normal: Doppelganger Followers(x10): Human followers who worship these Doppelgangers like gods, they are fully plate armored, sword and shield wielding knights. They deal 1.5 B-Rank Damage, and they take 10 C-rank damage to their shields, and 3 C-Rank damage to their plate armor. Other then that, they aren't special.
-Strong: Cult Priests/ Practioners (x12): These zealots are the leaders before the actual leaders, the Doppelganger leaders, and follow the words of their “gods” like Holy Writ. They wield a plethora of weapons, from sais, to axes, even to spears. Each priest only takes 5 C-Rank Damage, but will Will themselves back to life, taking another 5 C-Rank damage.

-Boss 1: “Isabella Umbre”- This face of a Doppelganger, (You know this because you can see the body in a corner of the room.) “She” wears a set of chainmail underneath a set of Valkyrian plate armor. She wields a sword of light, a hilt of a sword without a crossguard, and a small switch on the side. “Isabella” deals 1 B-Rank Damage in Light damage, and .25 B-Rank. She takes  4 B-Rank damage to her plate armor, and her “sword” can deflect up to 5 C-Rank damage. She herself only takes 1 C-Rank damage to kill. “Isabella” also can move objects through telekinetic motions, and if hit by this, you will take 3 C-Rank Damage per hit.

-Boss 2: “Franklin, Son of Thrais” You'd think with a name like that, he'd be some sort of Dwarf, straight out of Tolkien. Guess what? You'd be right. He is around 4' 7'', and looks like he could bull through a building with him and his HUGE hammer. (Its name is being Fausstheus, or quite literally, Fist-Hammer.) He has a long beard, stretching down to his lower belly, tied in knots. He's mantled in stone armor, unable to be rent from common blades. The only way to harm this man is through several spots on his armor, or through magic that can move through or around the stone he wears. The real Franklin, is bound, tied to a pillar in the middle of the room, lashed, as though whipped. The doppelganger takes 5 B-Rank damage to kill, and his armor takes thrice that. (3x that) His hammer will deal 6 B-Rank Damage to anyone hit by it, and will deal 3 B-Rank damage to those within 15 ft. he also has an axe, unnamed here, that'll deal the same amount of damage to those hit by it.

-Boss 3: Deseray, Mistress of the Past, Present, and Future: This pre-teen looking girl, is fighting a mirror image of herself, when you walk into the room, dancing as though possessed by a demon. Each image will throw balls of mystical fire, one will swerve to hit you, the other will swerve to avoid you. Each of these mystical fires will deal 7 B-Rank damage to you on hit, and will hit you for 3 B-Rank Damage of Light damage  over 2 posts. Finding the real one, however, will be difficult, since you must not kill the real one. Both the real one and the doppelganger take 3 B-Rank Damage to kill, and also have a 25% chance to dogde every attack you make. When killing one of them, either A.) If you kill the real one, you hurry and untie Franklin, and grab Isabella's body, and leave. Or B.) You'd have to kill the real one, and you wouldn't receive the armor.*
    Reward: 5K jewel, Legendary Armor.*
The Armor goes to both parties.

In search of another relic, the fabled Coral Coffer. The safe that will hold anything and everything. The small pink box was fabled to be capable of holding anything, any size, and could only be opened by the one who had imprinted their mana onto the Coffer. Mark slowly paced around Oak Town, his combat boots clicking against the concrete, and his grey vest and red tie fluttering slightly in the wind. He adjusted the left cuff of his white dress shirt, trying to look as formal and unassuming as he could. He had forced Tasuruha to sleep, so both of his eyes both stone a bright emerald green. The only problem with finding the Coral Coffer was that he had absolutely no idea where to look first. Where was his best bet at this point...

The museum? That seemed like the best idea, at this point. Of course, if the Coffer happened to be in the museum, that would be a slight roadblock. Keyword slight. He sighed, walking into the Oak Town museum as casually as he could. He did not look like a thief. The perks of being five foot five. As he walked in, his eyes flicked around, looking for someone who presumably worked at the museum. A man in a tan uniform stood in a corner, looking all professional-like and gunk. Why was it always a tan uniform? Mark made a tsk-ing noise, so stereotypical. Nonetheless, he walked up to the man, waving calmly, trying to act as innocent as he could. "Excuse me, sir?" The man looked in Mark's direction.

"'Sup, kid?" The man asked, clearly thinking himself superior to Mark due to his job, taller stature, and older age.

"Oh... Uh... Nothing much." Mark stuttered, faking a blush. "I-I was j-just wondering if you k-knew anything about the Coral Coffer, sir?" He blushed again. "I need to l-learn about them for a school project." The man rolled his eyes, clearly irritated at what he perceived to be Mark's shyness, and what was, in reality, Mark's best attempt at seemingly like a shy pre-teen.

"It got moved, kid. It used ta be here, but I thinks they took it to da Oak Inn,
ya hear? Go there, ya might have some betta luck."
Mark nodded, holding Mark from cringing at this man's inability to properly speak. Perhaps it was a harsh judgment, and it likely was not his fault, but still. It was difficult for Mark to listen to. He nodded though, keeping up his farce.

"Thanks so much, sir!" He said with a hearty grin, pacing out of the museum relatively quickly. Now, he knew where to go. That was a step up from not knowing where to go. And so, that was where he went.

And not long later, he was standing in front of the Oak Inn. Funny that there did not really seem to be no one here. It would be reasonable to find lots of people in an inn, but there not seem to be anyone nearby. Odd. Regardless, that would probably just make it easier to get his hands on the Coral Coffer.

Taizen was currently searching for some clues to the whereabouts of this 'gang' that was messing around, around here. The White Dragon Slayer brushed his hair back, gently sighing, he didn't know where to start. They were suspected to be around or in the Oak Inn, so he guessed that he would go there first. Taizen stretched his arms and cracked his neck, this was a high-ranked mission and he didn't know a lot about fighting, but if all went bad he'd call upon Hera who could help him out. Maybe there would be someone else that could help him on this mission? As he reached the front of the inn, there was almost no one there except for a blonde-haired boy.

Why was he here all alone? Was the Oak Inn abandoned or just that unpopular? Well, since it was rumored that an evil gang was here, that was probably it. "Yo," Taizen would say as he walked up by him, his hands stuffed in his white hoodie pockets, "Are you here on a mission too, or are you just curious about what's going on here? There was rumored to be a Doppelganger Cult here, I'm actually on the mission right now. If we're both on the same mission, we should do this together, know what I mean?" Taizen would turn towards the blonde-haired boy and wait for his response. If he responded positively, the black-haired adult would smile and nod.

"Shall we?" He'd question before walking into the Oak Inn. Complete silence filled his surroundings. The lights flickered on and off, there was no one around, but thanks to his sensitive senses he could hear slight shuffling in the basement, "I think we're in the right place, let's go." As they started to walk towards the basement stairs, Taizen would turn towards his companion, "So, what's your name, friend? If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?" The Dragon Slayer would try to converse with him, the mission would be a lot easier if it wasn't so awkward. Taizen kept a low voice as he spoke, he didn't want to throw away their sneaking advantage just like that. If he responded, he'd nod, "My name is Taizen Silverheart, it's nice to meet you. Anything important I should know about you?" If he didn't or did answer the question, they'd be at the bottom of the basement stairs, ready to move on.

He'd put his finger to his lip int he sign of saying, 'shh' or 'be quiet' before he carefully watched his step and continued to walk along the broken concrete of the floor. The place was really run down, and it was hard to see. Their advantage of surprise would be broken if he used any of his light magic, that would reveal their position right away. As they sneaked, he would know he messed up as he turned the corner and there would be somebody there. "Take him out quickly!" Taizen would whisper so that only Mark could hear.

Mark turned around as he heard someone speak to him. A man with coal-black hair and shockingly blue eyes was talking to him, saying something about a 'cult' that had taken residence in the inn. Well, that definitely explained a lot. Deciding he could not just tell this person that he planned to steal a safe supposedly hidden in the inn, Mark smiled, "Yeah. Cult. Doppelgangers. Mission. Me." He paused for a second, "That was worded atrociously. Apologies. I suppose we could get going now."

Mark nodded as the man asked whether they should go, and he slowly walked up the steps, which creaked in a worrisome manner. It was utterly silent within the boundaries of the inn. The lights flickered on and off arbitrarily, but Mark's enhanced senses heard a shuffling in the basement. His companion was apparently thinking the same, thing, as he offered just that. The man asked his name, and Mark decided there would be no harm done in replying. "Name's Mark. Mark Baxter. I'm not actually as young as I look... Surprising as it may be, I've just recently turned 18, just this January." He kept his voice down, not wanting to raise any alarms. He would nod as Taizen introduced himself, "It's nice to make your acquaintance, Taizen. I don't believe there's very much to know about me,
    how about yourself?"
Mark would act intrigued regardless of how Taizen responded, but there was not much more time to talk, as the pair soon reached the basement.

Taizen put his finger to his lips, wanting the pair to remain quiet so that they did not lose the element of surprise. Mark nodded, the metal under his skin twisting and turning as he prepared for combat. It did not take long for them to find something, more than just, 'something'... They found a gathering of Cult Priests. "Shit." Mark muttered under his breath, and Taizen whisper-yelled for him to take out to priests. Apparently whatever magic Taizen used was not particularly useful in this scenario. Mark nodded, a katana made of pure white metal appearing in each of his hands. A quick and concise strike to the nape. Not dead, unconscious. One down, 11 to go. Unfortunately, the element of surprise was lost on them now. "Taizen!" Mark yelled, tossing a white katana in his companion's direction. As he did so, another one appeared in his hand immediately, and Mark parried a strike from an opposing Priest, just in time. Another quick strike and another Priest was struck down, unconscious. There were so many of them, but at least Mark was mowing through their ranks relatively quickly. Mark could only hope a Priest did not land a hit on him, it was always annoying to explain his metallic skeleton to those whom he had never met before.

Taizen nodded as he watched the katanas form. This guy was skilled, way more skilled than he was. His thoughts were shaken away as he was thrown a katana by his partner. Taizen quickly grabbed the katana mid-air and turned to see his opponents. Instead of one guy, it was actually a group of priests, this wasn't good. They seemed stronger than him, but the way he examined them with his Dragon Senses, he knew he could take them off. So with a burst of speed, Taizen would slice one of the priest's throat and kick the falling body away as blood began to spray. The White Dragon Slayer had no morals about killing, he was taught to kill since he was a child by Weisslogia, The Elder White Dragon.

Taizen brought his sword up backward to stop an ax from cleaving him in half and brought his foot back in a donkey kick, knocking the guy in the stomach and disarming him. From the way his body was positioned he had dropped the ax, but quickly picked it up and threw it at the fallen man, instantly entering his abdomen and effectively killing him. Taizen selfishly looked at his black t-shirt and was happy with the summary that he didn't get any blood on his clothing. Soon there were ten priests left, then five, and then zero. Taizen breathed heavily, that was quite a battle, he hadn't had one like it in a long time.

To his surprise the men that had all just been slaughtered started to rise, their wounds cleaning and they recovered quickly, just to attack again. The White Dragon Slayer jumped back to where he was right by Mark, "Do you have any spell that could kill them all quick? I think we already lost the surprise of us coming, and the stronger people of this cult shall be coming any minute." Taizen turned towards Mark to see his answer, he was quite pissed that after all the hard work they had done, these fools had just regenerated.

If not, then Taizen would once again slice and dice with Mark until there was none left.

Taizen was ruthless, slashing through priests with the demonsteel blade left and right, apparently having no issues with killing the priests, as opposed to Mark, who was simply knocking them unconscious. That was fine, probably made things easier... And for a second, it looks as though they had succeeded, for just a brief second. As soon as Taizen and Mark had finished taking them out, 6 of them unconscious and 6 of them with their cuts strewn all over the place, the priests began to rise again. And it was not the unconscious priests that began to rise, no, it was the dead priests, their body parts moving back together and their wounds mending at disturbing speeds. "Well, I'll be damned..." Mark muttered, "They're back from the dead.

    Shit."
And to make matters worse, the unconscious priests were also getting up again. Mark cursed under his breath once again. When Taizen asked Mark if he could take them all out in one shot, he shrugged. "Let's see what I can do." With that, the ground rippled, and a metal cocoon surrounded Taizen. "Don't move." He said as the metal formed an egg around Taizen's body. Once Taizen was fully covered, Mark whipped his hand, still holding a katana, in a circle. The sword, along with the one Mark was holding in his off-hand, dispersed into small white metal pins, which flew at high speeds, stabbing into any priests 10 meters or less from Mark, which was most of them.

The needles would stop 10 meters from Mark, thickening and flying into the air, damaging those who were hit by them. "May judgement rain upon thee." Mark said, bringing his hand down. With that, the needles would rain onto the ground at high speeds, skewering each of the priests once again. At that point, few priests were left standing, so Mark just made the needles raise back from the ground and whipped his hand around again, sending the flurry of needles rocketing through the remaining priests. At this point, they were all either dead again, or unconscious again. "Well, that's that." Mark said, dusting himself off as Taizen's cocoon melted to the ground. "Shall we keep going?" Mark asked as the needles melted and quickly reformed into a katana in each of his hands.

Taizen stopped in his tracks as the metal cocoon surrounded him. The swift cry of men being pierced by metal filled the room, and then when he was out, they were all dead on the floor. The man nodded, "Good job Mark. Let's continue, more people might be coming." As they continued to walk, he gently hummed a tune his father used to hum when he was younger. Weisslogia had always liked music and with his roughed voice, he'd sing as Taizen listened to him. Most of his songs were about young lovers, or the beautiful days, or the unknown about the world. It made Taizen feel warm inside, he missed his father greatly.

As he was summarizing, he didn't even notice the upcoming people who were ready to stop the Slayer duo.

Taizen hummed as the pair walked along, the song was not particularly familiar to Mark, but it had a nice tone about it. Mark got caught in the rhythm of the song, so he didn't even notice the people who were right ahead of them, almost walking into a priest. Thankfully, he stopped just in time, maintaining quiet enough not to maintain whatever ritual the priests were performing. He stopped himself from groaning just in time, he did not feel like dealing with another group of priests. So, he decided he would not. Mark dropped both of his swords to the ground, and if one would look to the left of Mark, they would see the bone under his arm twisting and turning, the skin on the edge of the arm ripping open to reveal a white blade edging its way out of Mark's skin. The blade grew quickly, and in the blink of an eye, it was longer than Mark himself. With a quick and concise strike, all of the priests were cut in half. "These things... What a pain." He muttered, "They're supposed to resurrect now, right?" He asked, and as he did, the priests bodies reformed themselves, alive once again. The newly living priests threw themselves at Mark, and he sighed. Using the flat edge of his blade, he swept them all against the wall with a sickening thud--all of them unconscious. "Shall we get going once again, Taizen?" He asked, the blade retracting into his skin and his skin mending itself.

Taizen watched as the blade sprouted from his skin and he instantly destroyed the priests. Twice. The black-haired mage nodded towards Mark, "What kind of magic do you use? It's really interesting." They continued to walk, Taizen waited to see what Mark would say, hopefully, no other bad guys were down this hallway to the right.

Taizen asked Mark what kind of magic used, and Mark shrugged, "Though not identical, the magic I use bears a certain resemblance to Demon Slayer Magic, specifically relating to the element of metal. The story of how I came to acquire the magic is a tad bit... Long, to say the least. How about yourself? I have not seen you use any magic up to this point, even though I can feel the magic power coming off of you. Are you not too well trained yet, or is it simply because your magic is not useful in this situation?" He was rather intrigued as to why his partner had not yet used any sort of magic. However, he was not given much time to wonder, as he and his partner were quickly surrounded by so... many... enemies. Mark could count just around twenty of them, which kind of such, though they didn't seem to be quite as strong as the priests, which was a good sign. Having just then realized that he had dropped his swords earlier, Mark sighed, swiping his hand forward, creating three more blades. One of them flew at Taizen, and the other two were snatched up by Mark. "Let's make some noise, Taizen." Mark said, whirling the swords around dramatically.

Taizen nodded as Mark told him what kind of music he used and he nodded until he got to the part of Slayer Magic and his eyes widened, "That's amazing. I have Dragon Slayer magic that is related to light. Very interesting really, finding different ways to incorporate light and to control it." As he continued to speak Taizen would nod again, "Saying that now, it's because light will reveal our location right away, but now that we've kind of made a lot of noise, I'll start using my magic-"

The White Dragon Slayer jinxed it, suddenly there were suroounded by lots of villians. As soon as Mark said 'Let's make some noise' Taizen chuckled and grabbed the sword. With one other hand he started to collect light mana into his hand and started to charge up a spell. He aimed it towards the crowd of enemies and a condensed beam of light was shot at them, burning them from the intense rays of heat. As soon as he finished blasting them, Taizen rushed forward and started to slice them up.

Taizen seemed intrigued at Mark's magically capabilities and divulged his own almost immediately afterward. He proceeded to explain that using his own magic in the basement would show their location to enemies, and then said that it would likely be fine at this point, now that they had already made a ruckus. Mark nodded, glad that he would not have to be doing most of the work at this point. He was curious to see what Light Dragon Slayer magic looked like in action. Would it be as... Extravagant as he was imagining? After spending a brief second dwelling on the very essence of light, he realized that it likely would be extremely extravagant, and would call even more attention to the pair, mostly likely.

That said, Mark didn't really care at this point. He was bored, he just wanted to leave already... Taizen began charging up light in one of his hands, using the other to attack their enemies, but Mark didn't bother to use his own magic, he just sliced through his enemies with ease, though only in a manner that would knock them out, since Black Sails had some sort of ridiculous rule about "no killing unless absolutely necessary". Mark estimated about 30 or so enemies, and not killing people when they were trying to kill you was more difficult than it looked. As Taizen burnt through enemies with rays of heat, Mark took some degree of care not to kill them. After about a minute or so, the pair had somehow only managed to incapacitate 6, all their enemies kept going no matter how much they hit them. Just as Mark started getting into the rhythm of things, half of the enemies around him transformed into Taizen, and the other half into... himself? "Shit!" He yelled, "How do I know which ones to hit now!?" And then it hit him, "Taizen,
only hit the ones who are a copy of yourself! I'll take care of, err, me... Don't worry about the armor."
With that, the armor on all of their enemies dissipated into white light, and was quickly absorbed into the black markings that had appeared on Mark's skin. He felt a rush of adrenaline from absorbing his element, and cracked his knuckles. "Don't fucking copy me, you bastards."

Taizen raised an eyebrow as he watched Mark fight. Was he incapacitating them instead of decapitating them? He nodded, he wouldn't kill anymore, even though it was easier. As they shifted and transformed Taizen would groan, this was getting annoying. Taizen turned to Mark. Apparently, they were just going to attack themselves, leaving no room for confusion. The White Dragon Slayer nodded and rushed forward knocking them out with a couple of hard hits and a lot of combos.

"Like Mark said, don't you dare copy me," Taizen screamed.

There were far too many of himself and Taizen... "What a pain..." Mark muttered, twisting his swords around in his hands nimbly. "I'm tired of this crap."He said, one of his swords cutting into one of his copy's legs. The copy screamed, its image flickering back into that of a generic thug. That was convenient; Mark was glad that he didn't have to kill his enemies, it made it much easier to deal with his guildmates when he got back. Apparently, these enemies were weaker than Mark had expected since a single hit had caused his enemy to collapse onto the floor. "That was... Easy." Mark muttered.

A flash of searing pain invaded Mark's skull, causing him to flinch slightly. Mark winced as his left eye's iris grew a deep crimson color. "So, what are we doing here?" A voice from inside his head echoed.

Mark shrugged, "Taking down a cult... I think? Honestly, I'm not sure. I'm just here looking for a coffer." He, or perhaps it was Tasuruha, reacted instinctively as another copy attacked him from behind. A slash of his blade caused the clone to collapse onto the floor, unconscious and severely injured. "What a pain." Mark muttered again, he was starting to get extremely annoyed at this whole shebang.

Just as Mark was starting to get into the groove of things, he heard a noise coming from behind him, "More enemies...?" He muttered with a sigh, looking on at the current scene. Most of the clones were lying unconscious at this point, no more than 5 or so left standing. Still though, Mark was irritated there were even more enemies that he would have to get rid of, he was starting to get mildly irritated, to say the very least. "Would you like me to take over?" Tasuruha asked, and Mark shook their head. "I'll deal with this, I don't want you to have to go out of your way to do anything, m'kay?" The demon grunted in response.

There they were and then they weren't. The black-haired mage of Fairy Tail sighed, this was getting annoying. Where were the actual challenges? He wasn't going to push himself though, he knew he wasn't that strong. Taizen had been fighting his enemies and they made the stupid mistake of using Light Magic against him. He instantly ate that light, feeling an exhilarating energy come over him. It was a good fight to fight against priests!

A sheen of magic surrounded his body and he instantly sped up, slamming his fist into their guts, knocking them out in one blow. It was over as fast as it started. "Annoying, really," Taizen said with a bit of venom in his voice, "Where are the bosses that will actually give us more of a challenge rather than their lackeys? I can only take so much and we've fought about sixty enemies already." The White Dragon Slayer turned towards Mark, "Are you doing alright? If you need it, I can heal you easily."

(Oops. Wrong account. This is Taizen btw.)
