Frey had her tiny fingers laced into Silver’s fur, tightly gripping the light blue strands with a small amount of pressure as to not hurt the rune wolf. Ever since she joined Fairy Tail, despite coming to like it here, she was a little restless. Back in her old village? She had went outside the walls every single day, with other Earth-Mates, the dragon guardians or the dragons themselves; Now she only went out and about when Kanix was going somewhere and it was only when Kanix was going somewhere alone. Even if she was happy with her mother? Frey was dimly aware there must be other people within it besides herself and Kanix, whether she was told or simply implied the fact, that was another unknown story. However in the end, the little girl did not like staying inside so much, it just was not the way she was, normally she was out in nature, not indoors, even if most of the guild hall was rather naturey, to Frey it was not the same thing as actually being out in the wild.

“I can fight for myself, silver just doesn’t let me half the time, come on boy, let me show mom I’m strong this time, alright?!” she laughed as she spoke, but her small face had an expression of seriousness placed upon it, even as her pale green eyes shone. While she was making mostly light of it? The fact her wolf barely ever let her fight directly, was very true, he kept her upon his back, so he could keep the little girl out of harm's way as much as possible. If it ever came to a choice between his life or her’s, he would chose her’s, every single time. Thus so long as Silver lived, the little girl was very safe, he would never let harm fall to her. “Let’s go than! Giddy up Silver!” the little girl didn’t have to kick his sides or anything, no nudges or stuff people usually used to direct their animals. One day? Their bond may evolve to allow him to read her mind or something, but for now her lack of direction was because she knew he would follow her mother. Silver did exactly as the girl expected, and trotted along behind Kanix, scampering up onto the thunderbird when they reached it.

“I’ve never been on a ship before, there were airships around the village, but everyone always said I was too young to go out as far as the ships took people.” she still talked about the place she had come from initially, quite a bit, yet with each word, it seemed she was less and less eager to return there and more eager to stay with fairy tail. Right now? She was too young for it to matter anyway, but one day she’d have to decide for good if she wanted to be a dark mage or live in the village with the other Earth-Mates. At the moment, she just settled for resting her head against her mother’s back and leaning forward on Silver, nearly falling asleep on the flight over to Cedar, a small bit of drool wiped from the side of her mouth they landed and she woke.

“Ship’s are kinda big.” the second she spoke this, silver ran from the bow to the stern and back to Kanix, as if demonstrating Frey’s words. “And they take you to an adventure? I like ships!” she decided instantly these were good things and in a rare moment slid from silver’s back to rush over and grab her mother’s leg, large eyes looking up at the woman. “I want to go on ships more often.” Frey was gigglig, the ship was moving, Silver was lying against one of the rails, keeping a careful eye on his little girl and the woman who had adopted her. To be brutally honest, the icey looking wolf did not know he truly felt about Frey being adopted by other magic users, in a formal way. In the village? He had been the only one who really mattered, her true family there, but now she grew closer and closer to others, sometimes it was distressing for him.

Kanix glanced back toward Frey, noticing the restlessness that the young child displayed in response to her. She realized that even though Frey was getting accustomed to living in the headquarters of Fairy Tail, she was still a child of nature. Frey was just as restless as she was when it came to being in the wilderness or choosing to remain locked up inside. As always, she would choose to wander the wilderness rather than being stuck inside of a cramped building for too long. The young child had to be the same way with how she gripped Silver's fur and wiggled in her seat some as Kanix started leaving. "You do know that you're more than welcome to go on jobs with other members of the guild or even on your own, right?" Kanix inquired. Despite her being a very young being, the Guild Master was willing to let Frey go on her own as long as she knew it wasn't combat jobs.

She listened quietly as Frey brought up that she was perfectly all right with fighting on her own, but Silver wouldn't let her. "He just wants to make sure that you're safe," she responded to the girl, looking down at the rune wolf as she did. Ancalagon likely would have been the same if she was around Frey's age rather than the age that she was currently act. In fact, even at the age she was now, Ancalagon was entirely for giving up his life in the namesake of his master's. However, he knew that letting Kanix fight on her own was the best option instead of butting heads with her every time he tried "protecting her." Kanix was grateful for all of the times that the thunderbird would swoop in and save her life when she needed it most. Sighing, she reached out and patted the neck of the bird lovingly, which made him coo in response to her touch.

"Ships that go out onto sea are kind of like ships that go into the air; they both have their ups and downs, quite literally," she replied with a chuckle. "The ships that go out onto the sea float above the waters and they're controlled by the sails that you see on top and with the wind. Sometimes, you get the occasional ship that's powered by an engine, so it sails smoothly on its own without much help aside from steering it. On the ocean, you have to be sort of careful because of the storms that are oftentimes found over the waters in various places. . ." As she was speaking, however, Kanix would come to find the Frey had fallen asleep against her back, and would quickly silence herself. Instead, the woman let Ancalagon fly through Fiore until they reached Cedar, letting the young girl sleep in silence. After all, she was quite the young being still, it made sense for her to take naps every so often, even on jobs.

As they boarded the ship and it began to set sail, the woman watched as Frey stated the ship was big and Silver ran across the deck. "Not all ships are as large as this; in fact, the larger the ship is, the more likely it's not going to sink on the ocean. Larger ships like this one were built to survive the raging waters of the ocean, but we won't have to worry about that on our journey. We're going through the Calm Sea and that part of the waters is always calm, no matter how 'dangerous' things get. I do know that there are bandits out on the waters, though, so it's likely our journey will take a bit to get to Sphere Island." Kanix was about to wander off to go watch the ocean as they cruised it, but Frey's little arms around one of her legs stopped her. "I'm sure there are more jobs that involve ships, but they are likely ones that require you to be stronger than you are now."

Frey had not even known what anything besides nature was for the longest time of her life. Considering she grew up in a rather undeveloped town, just the basics, a scenic place that valued its connection to nature and it’s dragons? Rune never really had to experience what being outside of nature was until she was moved into her own house, since for the first few years of life she was kept inside the castle which had an open roof, protected by a thin film the dragoness projected, so rain would not ruin the gorgeous palace. Once she got so old however? Than she had to live in a house on her own, near the castle, near the infirmary, for safety, but on her own. Honestly it was not the town’s fault, they just didn’t know how to deal with her sometimes, when she started asking where she had come from, and by the time she figured out they would never tell her, well she was already in that house, so nothing was left to be done about it, things were just that way. Even now? She had her own room, it was near Kanix’s, but silver needed the room to roll about and she needed to be alone at this point in her life. Constantly being around someone else? Would just make her life far harder.

“I don’t even really know how to find jobs.” she only knew that the first old man had come and asked them while they were out, and than this one came in a letter she intercepted. However in terms of actually knowing about the job board and such, the child was fairly clueless. Actually? Silver ensured of that, Frey was a smart girl who would figure out what the job board was if she got to seeing it somewhat, so he made sure every time they neared it, that she couldn’t even second glance the object. The idea his precious little girl could go on missions without an elder guardian to keep her safe, even missions without combat? Drove him mad and made him fear for her life. Clearly, he was not easily going to let her go on other jobs when he could help it, she was much too young in his opinion to be out on her own, even with him as guardian!

“He does that well.” she pet the wolves head slightly, yawning distinctly, as if she had stayed up late the night before or such, like some children were known to do. “Tell me more.” she sounded sleepy as she spoke, dragging after Kanix on the ship.

Now that she had her arms around her mother’s leg, the child did not really intend to let go right now, even if it would prevent the woman from walking around. The little girl? Was feeling clingy today, and would behave accordingly until the feeling wore off. “How much stronger will I need to be?” Silver kept his eyes on them, the look on his long face saying he hoped it was adult stronger! However Frey was hopping it  was like a rank or something, like a small thing she could easily overcome by following her mother around enough. “I can be really strong, promise!” tiny arms tightened around Kanix’s leg as the girl’s voice increased to a slight whine, before she cuddled into her mother’s leg and yawned once more. Apparently? Frey was significantly tired today, or her nap just wasn’t over.

Perhaps the reason Frey was so attracted to Kanix was because she was raised in a similar way to the young girl. At the age of fourteen, Kanix had been found by a Nirvit shaman deep within a forest, near the shaman's tribe itself. When she had been found, she was a bloodied and beaten child, the wounds on her eyes fresher than they were now. The shaman had pitied the white girl and took her in under his wing in order to nurture her and bring her back to health. From the moment she had been brought back to the tribe to her time of leaving it, she was raised to believe and live as the Nirvits did. Through all of those years in the tribe, she had become accustomed to living in tepees, foraging, hunting, and healing. Her attachment to the earth became more and more apparent until her connection to it was so strong, her pseudo-father believed her ready.

What she was ready for she never truly learned, but her father had called her into his tepee one day and sat her down. He began speaking to her of things that only the shamans knew; parts of the tribe's past accessible only by the means of spiritual connection. It was that day she began to learn the ways of a shaman, spending hours upon hours being taught what things were. Her connection to the world of life and the afterlife, to the world of immaterial and material, only continued to grow stronger. Eventually, even the tribesmen and women began to notice the shift in the innocent, young child to a developed, spiritual woman. They began to call her Pauwau, which roughly translates to "witch" in the common language, and it was then that she knew she had to take her leave. From then on, she had lived on her own, just as Frey had, only by then she was a young woman capable of sustaining herself.

Kanix blinked her eyes and glanced down at Frey, watching her with mild curiosity as she stated she didn't know how to find jobs. Surely one of the members of the guild would have taught her by now if she had simply asked them to tell her where it was. "Finding jobs is extremely easy," the woman began, "there's a board in the guild hall that constantly has fliers on it. These fliers are sent in to us by clients, asking for us magi to do jobs for them in return for jewels on our part. You just take one of the fliers down and head over to the bartender and they'll fill in a piece of paper with information on it and send it in. Then you're good to go with doing the job, you just have to remember if you're all packed and ready to go." Her eyes shifted to Silver, figuring it was the wolf that was preventing Frey from going on jobs on her own.

Kanix sighed and lifted Frey up from her leg, resting the child on her hip so that she was able to look out across the ocean as well. "How about I tell you a story of a voyaging ship?" she inquired rhetorically to the young child before continuing, "this voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea. Only two men out of the whole crew were able to swim safely to a small, desert-like island after it had wrecked. The men, together, had decided, after reaching the little island, that they had no recourse but to pray to their god. They divided the territory between the two of them in order to see how powerful each of their prayers would be to the other. Each man first prayed for food, and the next morning, the first man who prayed for the food received a fruit-bearing tree, the other's land was barren. Again, this first man prayed that he would receive a wife for his loneliness, and the next day another ship wrecked with a woman as the only survivor who swam to his side of the island."

She paused in her story for a moment, letting what she had told Frey settle into the young girl's mind before continuing. "Every prayer that the first man made were granted to him like magic; a house, clothes, and more food appeared while the second man received nothing. Eventually, the man prayed for a ship that his wife and he could leave on and the next day, a ship appeared docked on his side of the island. As the man thought of his crew-mate being unworthy because his prayers had gone unanswered, he intended to leave him on the island. However, a booming voice from the heavens inquired why he was leaving his companion on the island and the man answered that his blessings were his own and the other was unworthy. Yet, this voice told him that he was mistaken and that without the other man's prayer, his blessings would not have been. So, the first man asked what the second man prayed for and his god told him the second man prayed for all his prayers to be answered."

Silently, the woman rested her head against Frey's and listened to what the little girl had to say after her story. "Jobs are passed on the rank of a magus in a guild; you have D-rank, C-rank, B-rank, A-rank, S-rank, SS-rank, and H-rank. Each rank is stronger than its former, with D-rank being the weakest rank there is for a magus to be compared to a normal human. H-rank is the most powerful and revered of the ranks, and supposedly, there is a fabled rank, known as X-rank. The more jobs that you take, the stronger you become and soon you will be able to go jobs that are harder than the ones you were on before. It takes time most of all; our fifth guild master, before he had passed away, was the strongest one in our guild. He was H-rank and he cared so much for the guild, all he wanted was for us to grow stronger and I will keep that promise to him."

Her eyes seemingly glazed over as her memories brought her back to the past of when she had been in Basilisk Fang. "Heero meant everything to me; I would have thrown my life aside to make sure he stayed alive no matter what. He was the one that brought me into the light, showed me that the world was capable of changing for the better and not for the worse. Fairy Tail's guild master was just as his name sounds; he was a hero for those who could not fight for themselves at all or any longer. Heero was my savior and I wanted to be his, but in the end, I failed him and he was taken from us by our cruel mistress." Kanix blinked and looked back at Frey, the haziness of her eyes receding as she was brought back to present time. "If I had to admit. . . I fell in love with him, but I was a foolish girl who let her emotions get to her too often."
